  • Using my Fender Rumble 40 bass amp with a guitar (Telecaster-style). Setting it like I set my tube amps, and then trying with some pedals. Let me know what you think of it!
    Pedal used: JHS @+, with either side or both sides engaged.
    Guitar used: Ken Francis Pennycaster, with Pickupwizard 50s style pick ups.
    Mic used: Heil PR30, straight into the Audient ID14. No FX or post-processing, except for a bit of reverb from Logic

    Never underestimate the bass amp for guitar. One of my favorite guitar tones I've achieved was pairing a JC40 with an Ampeg SVTIII Pro into an Ampeg 4x10 cabinet that was on the edge of breakup. The warm slightly overdriven sound from the SVT mixed with that clinically clean, snappy tone of the JC40 was heavenly. That Rumble sounded fantastic with guitar.

    Kept clean, the Rumble 40 is an excellent jazz guitar amp, especially with archtops. What it lacks is reverb, and it could use a bit more tone-shaping flexibility. Paired with a Boss GT-1, with patches that only use EQ, reverbs/delays and (sparingly) modulation effects, you have a simple lightweight system that sounds great and has enormous flexibility.

    • @AlexVoinotGuitar
      @AlexVoinotGuitar  Год назад

      Yeah, the lack of reverb could be a problem for players who need reverb on their amp for sure. I find the EQ to be pretty efficient on that amp though, you can dial it in really nicely, especially with the low mid/high mid knobs.

    Finally a demo I've been looking for! I have mine sinci December 2022 and I've been using it as a bass amp because I have a Boss Katana MkII 100. As of this writing, the Katana is having a few technical issues in terms of it being a "digital" amp. Don't get me wrong. I love this amp and I've been using it to record my stuff since 2020. But I was always looking at my Rumble 40 V2 every now and then and would like to record an EP using only this amp. I only tried plugging my guitar in it a few times and dialed some super clean and pristine tones. That's just it. Never have I plugged my pedals on it as I'm afraid it won't handles pedals.
    Have you tried distortion pedals on it? Like for punk/alternative sounds?

    • @AlexVoinotGuitar
      @AlexVoinotGuitar  11 месяцев назад +1

      the only pedal I've tried is the JHS @+ (second half of this video). If you hit the front end of the amp a bit harder (like with humbuckers) it does saturate pretty nicely. I've made another video with a HB-equipped guitar that you can find here: ruclips.net/video/J0WbRBjSyPc/видео.html

Had to turn the bass all the way down and tweak some of the mids and treble, but using dirt pedals (SL Drive, OD3, etc.), I got some really good sounds. • @AlexVoinotGuitar

      There might be better options for metal tones on the cheap. I don't have a heavy distortion pedal (I've got a Mesa Rectoverb 25 so I don't really need one), my guess is that it would sound great with the Rumble 40, but you may want to look into what the competition does for that type of tone. From my experience, it's better to have a larger cabinet/speaker for metal tones (tighter, more focused bass)
