Andertons if your reading these comments please do a comparison of the Katana 210 bass vs other 210 combos such as the Fender Rumble 500 210,Ampeg 210 etc.There are so many bass players out there that think the Katana 210 with its 160 watts class ab would not keep up volume wise with other 210 class d combos on the market.You would be doing us all a service to do such a comparison.
I tried the 210 Katana in the shop the other day and was surprised how good the unaffected sound was. Very loud and punchy. However the effects are of no interest to me and it’s a heavy beast.
Fender Rumble is always a great, reliable and consistent , but the Boss Katana Bass Amp is really amazing with great tone, thump and versatility for the price point, definitely getting the Boss.
I bought a 25watt rumble for my six year old grandson a couple of years ago and was blown away at how loud and good it sounded for a eight inch speaker! And only $100.
if someone could scrape up an extra $100 I'd strongly suggest getting the rumble 40w as a least for a first amp choice as when it's time to jam with others you'll have the beef ready.
I once played a gig with full band of guitarist, drummer, keyboard, singer and a 30 piece gospel choir using only a Fender rumble 40 watt combo running into the house P.A.. that little amp could seriously pump!

All the Katana features are interesting, however, I'm too much a luddite. If I can't just twiddle knobs to find the tone I want, I'm not interested. There's just too much tech in these things nowadays. Heck, my gigging amp still has tubes. And yeah, keep off my lawn ;-)
It seems to me that these two amps target a different type of people, given the sounds and fx they offer. The Fender offers their own stuff, as it is logical, so it may firstly appeal to those who are in their ecosystem already or love their traditional sonic signature. The Boss is more experimental and may appeal to those who don't necessarily need to recreate specific sounds but rather want to make their own and be creative with the options offered by the amp.
Same here... I was shocked by its versatility and how much more refined its tone is compared to comparably priced combos such as the Fender Rumble, GK MB Series, Ampeg Rocket Bass, Acoustic, etc. The only thing I don't like is that 2 10" speakers won't function when using an extension cabinet... it's either or, not both.
@@marcoanello891 Yeah, there are a few confusing choices made, I must say. I purchased the 110 and it’s very awesome, but lacks any speaker out and both versions should really have Wi-Fi included. I mean come on just include it in the price please. Out of stock at many big online stores so I have to wait to dig deeper into the editing side. I don’t really understand these choices for the amp design, but otherwise so far I’m in love.
I have a Fender Rumble 100 and I absolutely Love-it. Nice big, full, deep Sound = "Without breaking my back" or "Getting a Hernia" - those days of Marshall Stacks are Over. No one allows you to play at that volume anymore (plus) it's a drag Carrying: to-and-from the gig. Lightweight, Portable & Great Sound is the way-to-go.
Love your playing and videos. I have noticed though, in several of your videos your bass volume coming through headphones is about 1/2 the volume of your speaking parts. At the least, please try to level out those volumes; I need to hear you holding upmthe hottom end. Either that, or let me know if I need to see an audiologist due to loss of hearing in the lower frequencies. Thanks and keep up the great work!
As a guitar player that has played bass as well in bar bands, I think I would want to stick with the Rumble. Straight forward, no messing around, and proven work horse. I am however a big fan of the Katana guitar amps range which have worked well for me in bar gigs. I could see the Katana bass ranger preferred by studio and experimental guys. Most bass effects just get lost in the sound in a live setting. I do not own a Rumble, but know from other guys in the business, and definitely would be interested in getting one.
Wish you would have included the comparable Ampeg Rocket Bass amp. I bought an Ampeg RB-110 a few months ago and it is very similar to my friends Rumble 50. Nice amp.
I'm seriously thinking of going for the Katana, I have a Rumble 40 that's kind of worn out now and the Katana was reaaallly nice when I tried it in stores.
Buy it it’s such a great amp I have the 60 and it’s cuts through my guit player 100 watts stock and my loud as hell drummer and it react like a tube amp !!!!!
@@metalliholic oh yeah trust me it is the only thing is you need to tweak your sound between basses and for this for someone who just want to plug and play it’s a bit tricky but if you don’t mind to have having to deal with a lot of option don’t go with this . To plug and play with no hassle go with a rumble 200 it’s more straightforward. But the katana reactive wise and tone wise is more bang for a buck.🤘🏻
I bought one it’s cool yeah it’s loud yeah user friendly????NO NO NO change between basses and you have to readjust all the freakin knobs especially if you have a passive and active . Then we’ll guys hear this 2 weeks using it and half to effects are busted the amp didn’t leave the house and brought the amp in the box with car at home . Now the effects sound like a computer fart 💨. I’m changing it tomorrow for a rumble 200 and I should have trust my ambiguity…. It’s a new amp who knows if there will be problems in the long run. Trust me if this thing breaks after warranty your screwed. Don’t want to think how much it will cost . It’s a good studio amp when needed. Plug and play amp no not at all. Your are gonna play with these buttons
@@gangrenous77 The most important thing is that comparing a modeling amp like the Katana to a non-modeling amp like the Rumble is like comparing apples and oranges. However, the Rumble Studio 40 and 800 *are* modeling amps, and therefore a more realistic comparison, so they should have picked one of those instead of a standard Rumble for the video.
I honestly expected to prefer the Rumble, because the whole everything modeling vibe doesn't seem like what I want for bass, but the vanilla sound of the Katana was much more my thing. (Disclaimer: I tried a Rumble way back when I was shopping and bought a MarkBass combo instead.)
I keep looking for a slightly easier to carry amp than the Markbass combo but sonically it's just so great! I can add all the effects and modeling I need with my own effects.
@@michaelgnapp3571 the fender rumble stage is only 800 watt with extension cab. Boss is class a/b and the fender class d and as they are both 2x10 they are almost the same.
@@michaelgnapp3571 actually yeah it will be close as class a/b produces alot more sound/volume at lower watts. Class d like the fender rumble require a lot more watts to get the same volume. Edit prob closer to the rumble 500. That be a better comparison than the 800
@@bdraidian6280 I had a Rumble 800, didn't see the value of a ton of unusable fx, and it came with a damaged speaker. Sent it back in exchange for a Rumble 500 and two 210 cabs. I like the 500 a lot. But... I have 9 Katanas, all the 100w variations. I use them in various combinations for different applications, from jam backline to stereo gig rigs, to 5-Katana immersive surround. I love my Katanas, that's why I'm interested in the bigger Katana bass amp. Kinda waiting to pull the trigger, because I suspect they're gonna bring out an even more powerful head and cabs.

Katana Bass? Interesting. I absolutely love my Fender Rumble bass amp. Considering you get a boatload of features for the extra money, it's potentially a big hit with bass players.
That did not sound like a Rumble, certainly not initially (as any Rumble owner will know). When they started tweaking EQ and the sound switched to mic, then more true deep full Rumble character was coming out. But at the start..... Forget it, not a fair representation. Also, not a realistic side by side comparison, when the newer Rumble Stage models 40 & 800 have comparible effects, software options like the Boss Katana. So a pretty pointless comparison. Anyone would think they're trying to sell Boss ?!! 🤣
I voted with my wallet .Boss Katana 210. IMHO the most versatile most complete most sculptable sound and the best quality & most expandable for under $ 1000 Au. And you can definitely gig w the 210 wheras the 110 won't cut it And for those who say it aint loud enough Do you own one or is that just a deluded opinion? If I hog tied you in front of it and it released its full fury @ your face you would scream for mercy & be in therapy for some time after. Also it introduce young players to somehing "new" haha! & NOT class D. What a class A/B amp & a mass loaded cab can do. An amp with wait for it ....headroom & fast transient attack. The rare gift of dynamics. Most bass players seem to like the rumble. I simply didn't & the way the BOSS outclasses EVERYTHING at that price point. It aint no fair fight its a SLAUGHTER. Now the bad news It consumes only 117w So the claim of 160 wrms is once again BULLSHIT. Boss/ Roland hang your head in shame!. The tweeter is a piezo horn and straight up just wired in with NO active X over or ANY x over. So " tweeter out" can only be a high pass or brick wall filter. Cheap & nasty but it works So ALL bass combo manufacturers STOP £UCKING LYING! Because they won't unless we stop them. But overall it STILL kicks ass. An older mate of mine is trading EDEN speakers and an Ampeg SVT 7 pro for this. Does it sound as good ? No, but it can be sculpted to get pretty damn close & he isn't constantly doing his back in carting 40 Kg as opposed to 20. Now argue with that!

I will add this. The amp & speaker combo , separates ,whatever. Is so very personal a choice. There is no way reading this that YOU will get a handle on what YOU like. YOU have to trust your heart & ears & go for what YOU like. That is EXACTLY what every great player did. Just stage dive in. Go for it and the universe tends to catch you.
Now I know why bass videos aren't as popular as guitar videos, without proper speakers, basses sound like flapping strings bouncing off of frets and well executed farts! Don't get me wrong, I love bass, but I first listened to this through my phonne, gave up, and had to return to it when I could get to my headphones! Stra'ngely enough, I have a Peavey Special 150, 112 combo that slays for bass, equal to or surpassing either of these amps. Unfortunately, it's also a viable anchor!
Exactly..I have a Fender Studio 40 and it's excellent that has built in effects, Amps,Cabs,,200 preset slots,Built in WiFi/Bluetooth..u don't need a Katana gizmo for that either btw..
Because Boss must be offering some sweetners around judging by the amount of Music RUclips channels gushing over the Katana (and how arsey they get if you dare question the validity and price of these). They are expensive and Boss wants to sell them so they are not going to show anything that makes it look like the overpriced toy it is and upset Boss
I currently own a Rumble 100 and don't see the Boss as much of an upgrade. I have never had any issue with the tones I can get out of the Fender (no matter what kind of style I am playing) including a very useful overdrive, and as far as effects goes, I see modelling amps as a false economy unless you think you will keep that amp forever because as soon as you switch to another amp, you lose those effects. I would much rather stay with the model of having a separate amp and pedal board/ FX unit combination so that if I want to use another amp, I don't have to buy everything new at the same time (and then work out how to get the best out of them).
Haven’t you missed the point? Why not compare like with like and review the Rumble “Studio” modelling amps from Fender with the equivalent Boss Katana? That would have been much more worthwhile. This is like comparing “apples” and “oranges”
It seems to me that with the Fender you get much more the sound of the bass itself, with the Katana the sound of the bass is less natural but much more "modern" for sure. They're both really good. I probably prefer the Fender, since I play fink with more vintage or classic bass sounds. But would be nice have both of them... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I have the Rumble 100 and Enigama Qballs and the Big Muff as my pedals, when doing jam sessions, I just plug in my Fender P Bass and Pedal board. Too convenient not carry around a amp by just having pedals... IJS
I own the Katana 210 and love it.Everybody notice the difference in the sound/tone of class ab watts vs class d even though the Boss amp is only a little over half the power of the Fender.

Boss' Katana range of amps is fantastic, and I genuinely admire what they have managed to achieve. I'd still take the Rumble if I had to choose between these two, but then the only bass amp at this price point that I'm interested in is the Ampeg Micro-CL stack (or pinching pennies to save up for a Micro-VR and 2x10 SVT cab)
I'm fortunate enough to have the Micro-VR hooked up to a 1x15" cab which I mainly keep in the rehearsal studio, and a Rumble 200w combo which I store at home to take out to gigs. Love them both to be honest, and I can get the classic Precision rock sound I need out of both. I got the Ampeg as a low cost replacement for my Little-Mark head by the way - great amp but more for jazz than rock in my opinion.
@@nicolasbeaudry6158I bought two Ampeg SVT210AV cabs, and put a MarkBass Black Line 250 head (class D) on top and it's awesome. But the VR head (class AB) is also very good. But the magic is mostly in the cabs. That said, I'm looking for a different head that lets me sculpt the mids more precisely. And the class AB VR head sounds warmer. The MB BL250 is cleaner. But the "character" knobs are pretty good.
I am a new bass player looking for an amp. Was looking at rumble 200/500, hartke 115 500w, boss katana 210 and blackstar 500. Going to guitar center in mays landing to check out what they have. I read a bunch of reviews on the markbass cubes, 100w, saying they had low sound so crossed them off. There are not a ton of reviews on the blackstar though. It's pretty expensive at $730 and no 15'' speaker option. Do you think it is the best of the lot? Would you suggest a head & cab instead?
I've always been a firm believer. In quality over quantity. The katana looks like a great 21st-century amp built from the ground up. I am sure the bass players who it attracts will enjoy all the features and take full advantage of them. I'm still in the learning phase of playing the bass. My thoughts on my progress are to make it as simple as possible. The Fender Rumble 100 is much more of a focused piece of kit. It will make my progression direct and to the point. Learning tone, timeing, and touch. Not getting distracted by bells and whistles. Less is more.
I agree 💯if your a beginner your need to focus on a good tone work your style and intonation etc all them effects are more to experiments and will distract a beginner player to focus on have a good simple solid technique. @@WillyPDX94 I would say the katana is good for the money… but the only reason to get it over some other very good choices is it’s additional effects. The AB amp thing… yeah it’s often a preferred amp type, but in this instance it’s about the effects and modelling. Think of it like an orange crush bass. I really love them, but I would advice most new players or people just looking for a bass amp to still get the fender or ampeg because it’s a one trick pony. It does the orange sound very well, the ampeg abs fender are more general purpose. Tbh I’m really including fender because it is good and to be democratic, in reality I recommend ampeg most of the time lol.
I must be crazy. Well I actually AM crazy. I swapped out the Katana for an Ampeg Rocket 115. Was I happier? Yeah, for about 5 minutes. Problem being for the princely sum of $100 Au I got my greasy little hands on an 100 wrms class A/B yum yum JBL D130 clone loaded ELKA DM100. Got it as a back up or originally that was the idea. Now I call it the albatros. Because it literally SHITS on everything below $2.5K Au retail new imho. It will remind bass players that the amp/speaker combo is as much a part of your instrument as you are. It responds to my fingers on the strings like a living organism. Its built tougher than a battle tank and looks cool....err in a cheesy kind of retro way 🙄 I kid you not. I own one & dont need 2. So Im spreading the gospel of AWESOME sound for awesomely cheap. I now worship at the alter of Italian cheese. ELKA I Love you 🥰😍🤩 Haaalehluyaahhh Praise the Loooord GALORY BEEYAH TAH JEEEeeeESUS! Caaan I Get an................ Amen! 😇🤩🤯? At certain settings the Boss seemed to have a slight buzz at the end of a note. I have noticed this in other demos. I think the speaker Boss used is the issue here where the tones don't ring clean with clarity on basic tones. I love the features on this Boss, it's a shame. I can't un-hear it.
Mine does this. It's the tolex grill on the front. If I push my hand against it then it stops. I'm going to try to replace it with a metal facing/screen.
On my crappy PC speakers, the clear winner is the Katana. I'm currently A/B comparing these two on reviews and demos and will be going to the guitar shop this weekend to play them. I love Fender amps but the Boss is setting itself ahead in my mind. I miss Nathan and Lee on All About the Bass more than I miss Chappers and the Captain. But I miss both pairs.
Did you end up getting the Rumble or the Katana? I got the Rumble 800 about six months ago. I mostly play guitar and piano. I didn’t even know. Boss had their own bass amp when I got the Fender.
I’m surprised you didn’t compare the Fender Rumble with all the settings, and emulations? Fender Rumble Ver. 2 is the best sounding, but the ver. 3 are more convenient, especially due to the weight. I have a 100 watt Fender ver. 1 and takes almost two people to carry it while my 800 only takes one. You do sacrifice some sound for the weight. Even nicer if you get the one that emulates the older fender bass tones as well as a bunch of pedals packed into one which is what I have. And you can connect it to another cabinet.
I think weight is relevant when gigging and possibly transporting up and down stairwells of rehearsal spaces- especially when you are an ol' fucker like me, it matters! At the end of the day, both amps are amazing in their own right but the rumble is 22lbs vs the 37lbs katana at the same price point. The katana with the modular effects , can spark more thinking-outside-the-box musicality, which is always lovely and probably worth the extra lift power if you're still a fit, spring chicken !
Boss Katana amps suck. The sound and speaker quality was sacrificed for the digital toys. The pad isn't sufficient for active basses and there is a fuzzy buzz that you can't get out of the bottom end sound even when run totally clean.
Can you get the katana bass amp 60 watt and it’s as loud as a 100 watt fender to the left? I’m trying to find a bass amp for katana that’s loud enough to play a show .. need a friend ha help me pick rofl 😅
The Rumble 40 is actually a good jazz guitar amp. The depth of the cabinet lends a richness to the sound. But it has no effects, not even reverb. So if you already have a Multi effects processor, the Rumble can work for you that way. For bass on this demo, the Rumble sounds better up front with the tone controls flat. That’s because Fender built it to make that sound. The Katana can get that sound, among the many sounds within it… while the Rumble cannot get almost all the sounds within the Katana.
so i was wondering is the fender 200 or 500 closer to the katana 160 with output? since i'm not sure how AB and D compare with wattage and output but i do like 2x10's better than 1x15
Man get the katana 2x10 it’s loud as hell responsive like a tube amp and the tone is sick with my active or my passive basses and it kills its as loud as a 500watts class d . The a/b have more headroom and it’s cuts through any guitar stacks and drums🤘🏻👍🏻
The Boss has great tone. But reliability is my concern. Many working bass players have been lugging around the Rumble 500 through lots of gigs and lots of playing hours without any problems with the Rumble. Will the Boss be as reliable, time will tell!
That’s a fact I bought the katana 60 and knew that if this things breaks I’m screwed it will cost an arm to fix a digital amp effect board but so far it’s a killer amp and man loud as hell as loins as my rumble 200 even louder I think 🤔 it’s so responsive you need to try one man🤘🏻
Well to be honest I totally prefer the Fender Rumble. It is just simple as sh*t, but it has a clear and understandable straight sound in all modes (Flat, Bright, Contour, Vintage). Fender Rumble is more punchy and it's incredibly light weight. I just ordered one yesterday and it arrives tomorrow, I can't wait. I'm gonna use it with a Tech 21 VT bass V2 Sansamp pedal and I think its gonna RUMBLE. I know it because the amp I had before was a Fender Rumble 150 (13 year old). That amp was so brutal in sound, but it was heavy as mud (40kgs). So I decieded to change it for a physically smaller and lighter amp with equal efficiency. For me the Boss Katana was a disappointment, nevertheless it has so many effects built in etc. It feels like a "plastic" sound for me. It's only my honest opinion, unfortunately this combo did not convince me. In case of effects I own some pedals like EBS Octabass, Electro Harmonix Mono Synth, Ampeg Octacomp and Tech21 VT bass V2 Sansamp. Those effects are awesome and provide versatile and natural sounds. Together the Rumble and the pedals are going to be killer. Sorry Boss.. :(
I have the 210 and I played a gig with a loud drummer and a guitar player using a Boss Nextone Artist[80 watt 112 combo] in a high school auditorium on a large stage with no monitor support.It was plenty loud and had volume to spare.It should handle any sane pub situation.
These two guys can make bass playing through an old transistor radio sound great. I love just listening to these two play!!!

Classic comparison between class D vs class AB. Class D sounds airy and empty in the middle, AB sounds like a wall of sound.

If Boss makes a head model (or several models) of the Bass Katana...that would be incredibly tempting.
If these combos sell well, we should expect to see ones with 12” speakers and a head down the line.
Love your videos but wish the bass amp parts were set louder so I wouldn't have to ride my volume knob between dialog and bass amp sounds.

Buy it it’s such a great amp I have the 60 and it’s cuts through my guit player 100 watts stock and my loud as hell drummer and it react like a tube amp !!!!!

@@metalliholic oh yeah trust me it is the only thing is you need to tweak your sound between basses and for this for someone who just want to plug and play it’s a bit tricky but if you don’t mind to have having to deal with a lot of option don’t go with this . To plug and play with no hassle go with a rumble 200 it’s more straightforward. But the katana reactive wise and tone wise is more bang for a buck.🤘🏻
I bought one it’s cool yeah it’s loud yeah user friendly????NO NO NO change between basses and you have to readjust all the freakin knobs especially if you have a passive and active . Then we’ll guys hear this 2 weeks using it and half to effects are busted the amp didn’t leave the house and brought the amp in the box with car at home . Now the effects sound like a computer fart 💨. I’m changing it tomorrow for a rumble 200 and I should have trust my ambiguity…. It’s a new amp who knows if there will be problems in the long run. Trust me if this thing breaks after warranty your screwed. Don’t want to think how much it will cost . It’s a good studio amp when needed. Plug and play amp no not at all. Your are gonna play with these buttons

I've played both of the smaller bass amps on offer from Boss and Fender, and the Rumble studio 40 decimates the Bass katana.

@@gangrenous77 The most important thing is that comparing a modeling amp like the Katana to a non-modeling amp like the Rumble is like comparing apples and oranges. However, the Rumble Studio 40 and 800 *are* modeling amps, and therefore a more realistic comparison, so they should have picked one of those instead of a standard Rumble for the video.
I honestly expected to prefer the Rumble, because the whole everything modeling vibe doesn't seem like what I want for bass, but the vanilla sound of the Katana was much more my thing. (Disclaimer: I tried a Rumble way back when I was shopping and bought a MarkBass combo instead.)

I keep looking for a slightly easier to carry amp than the Markbass combo but sonically it's just so great! I can add all the effects and modeling I need with my own effects.

@@michaelgnapp3571 the fender rumble stage is only 800 watt with extension cab. Boss is class a/b and the fender class d and as they are both 2x10 they are almost the same.

Edit prob closer to the rumble 500. That be a better comparison than the 800
@@bdraidian6280 I had a Rumble 800, didn't see the value of a ton of unusable fx, and it came with a damaged speaker. Sent it back in exchange for a Rumble 500 and two 210 cabs. I like the 500 a lot. But... I have 9 Katanas, all the 100w variations. I use them in various combinations for different applications, from jam backline to stereo gig rigs, to 5-Katana immersive surround. I love my Katanas, that's why I'm interested in the bigger Katana bass amp. Kinda waiting to pull the trigger, because I suspect they're gonna bring out an even more powerful head and cabs.

Katana Bass? Interesting. I absolutely love my Fender Rumble bass amp. Considering you get a boatload of features for the extra money, it's potentially a big hit with bass players.
I preferred the Katana’s sound on clean. The Fender sounded too “ringy-stringy” for what I am expecting for a bass sound, even for funk.
That did not sound like a Rumble, certainly not initially (as any Rumble owner will know). When they started tweaking EQ and the sound switched to mic, then more true deep full Rumble character was coming out. But at the start..... Forget it, not a fair representation.
Also, not a realistic side by side comparison, when the newer Rumble Stage models 40 & 800 have comparible effects, software options like the Boss Katana. So a pretty pointless comparison. Anyone would think they're trying to sell Boss ?!! 🤣
I voted with my wallet .Boss Katana 210. IMHO the most versatile most complete most sculptable sound and the best quality & most expandable for under $ 1000 Au. And you can definitely gig w the 210 wheras the 110 won't cut it And for those who say it aint loud enough Do you own one or is that just a deluded opinion? If I hog tied you in front of it and it released its full fury @ your face you would scream for mercy & be in therapy for some time after. Also it introduce young players to somehing "new" haha! & NOT class D. What a class A/B amp & a mass loaded cab can do. An amp with wait for it ....headroom & fast transient attack. The rare gift of dynamics. Most bass players seem to like the rumble. I simply didn't & the way the BOSS outclasses EVERYTHING at that price point. It aint no fair fight its a SLAUGHTER.
Now the bad news It consumes only 117w So the claim of 160 wrms is once again BULLSHIT. Boss/ Roland hang your head in shame!. The tweeter is a piezo horn and straight up just wired in with NO active X over or ANY x over. So
" tweeter out" can only be a high pass or brick wall filter. Cheap & nasty but it works

An older mate of mine is trading EDEN speakers and an Ampeg SVT 7 pro for this. Does it sound as good ? No, but it can be sculpted to get pretty damn close & he isn't constantly doing his back in carting 40 Kg as opposed to 20. Now argue with that!

I will add this. The amp & speaker combo , separates ,whatever. Is so very personal a choice. There is no way reading this that YOU will get a handle on what YOU like. YOU have to trust your heart & ears & go for what YOU like. That is EXACTLY what every great player did. Just stage dive in. Go for it and the universe tends to catch you.
Now I know why bass videos aren't as popular as guitar videos, without proper speakers, basses sound like flapping strings bouncing off of frets and well executed farts! Don't get me wrong, I love bass, but I first listened to this through my phonne, gave up, and had to return to it when I could get to my headphones! Stra'ngely enough, I have a Peavey Special 150, 112 combo that slays for bass, equal to or surpassing either of these amps. Unfortunately, it's also a viable anchor!

Exactly..I have a Fender Studio 40 and it's excellent that has built in effects, Amps,Cabs,,200 preset slots,Built in WiFi/Bluetooth..u don't need a Katana gizmo for that either btw..
Because Boss must be offering some sweetners around judging by the amount of Music RUclips channels gushing over the Katana (and how arsey they get if you dare question the validity and price of these). They are expensive and Boss wants to sell them so they are not going to show anything that makes it look like the overpriced toy it is and upset Boss

I currently own a Rumble 100 and don't see the Boss as much of an upgrade. I have never had any issue with the tones I can get out of the Fender (no matter what kind of style I am playing) including a very useful overdrive, and as far as effects goes, I see modelling amps as a false economy unless you think you will keep that amp forever because as soon as you switch to another amp, you lose those effects. I would much rather stay with the model of having a separate amp and pedal board/ FX unit combination so that if I want to use another amp, I don't have to buy everything new at the same time (and then work out how to get the best out of them).
i tried one out in a store, doesnt really sound better than a rumble but goddamn, its so much heavier!

Haven’t you missed the point? Why not compare like with like and review the Rumble “Studio” modelling amps from Fender with the equivalent Boss Katana? That would have been much more worthwhile. This is like comparing “apples” and “oranges”

It seems to me that with the Fender you get much more the sound of the bass itself, with the Katana the sound of the bass is less natural but much more "modern" for sure. They're both really good. I probably prefer the Fender, since I play fink with more vintage or classic bass sounds. But would be nice have both of them... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have the Rumble 100 and Enigama Qballs and the Big Muff as my pedals, when doing jam sessions, I just plug in my Fender P Bass and Pedal board. Too convenient not carry around a amp by just having pedals... IJS
I own the Katana 210 and love it.Everybody notice the difference in the sound/tone of class ab watts vs class d even though the Boss amp is only a little over half the power of the Fender.

Boss' Katana range of amps is fantastic, and I genuinely admire what they have managed to achieve. I'd still take the Rumble if I had to choose between these two, but then the only bass amp at this price point that I'm interested in is the Ampeg Micro-CL stack (or pinching pennies to save up for a Micro-VR and 2x10 SVT cab)
I'm fortunate enough to have the Micro-VR hooked up to a 1x15" cab which I mainly keep in the rehearsal studio, and a Rumble 200w combo which I store at home to take out to gigs. Love them both to be honest, and I can get the classic Precision rock sound I need out of both. I got the Ampeg as a low cost replacement for my Little-Mark head by the way - great amp but more for jazz than rock in my opinion.

@@nicolasbeaudry6158I bought two Ampeg SVT210AV cabs, and put a MarkBass Black Line 250 head (class D) on top and it's awesome. But the VR head (class AB) is also very good. But the magic is mostly in the cabs. That said, I'm looking for a different head that lets me sculpt the mids more precisely. And the class AB VR head sounds warmer. The MB BL250 is cleaner. But the "character" knobs are pretty good.

I am a new bass player looking for an amp.
Was looking at rumble 200/500, hartke 115 500w, boss katana 210 and blackstar 500.
Going to guitar center in mays landing to check out what they have.
I read a bunch of reviews on the markbass cubes, 100w, saying they had low sound so crossed them off.
There are not a ton of reviews on the blackstar though.
It's pretty expensive at $730 and no 15'' speaker option. Do you think it is the best of the lot?
Would you suggest a head & cab instead?

I've always been a firm believer. In quality over quantity. The katana looks like a great 21st-century amp built from the ground up. I am sure the bass players who it attracts will enjoy all the features and take full advantage of them. I'm still in the learning phase of playing the bass. My thoughts on my progress are to make it as simple as possible. The Fender Rumble 100 is much more of a focused piece of kit. It will make my progression direct and to the point. Learning tone, timeing, and touch. Not getting distracted by bells and whistles. Less is more.
I agree 💯if your a beginner your need to focus on a good tone work your style and intonation etc all them effects are more to experiments and will distract a beginner player to focus on have a good simple solid technique. Hope you continue enjoying playing it’s such an important part of human life🤘🏻good luck

I bought an RB-110 for home and jam sessions. Love it. A friend of mine has a Rumble and I like my Ampeg slightly better. Haven't tried the Katana.
@@WillyPDX94 I would say the katana is good for the money… but the only reason to get it over some other very good choices is it’s additional effects. The AB amp thing… yeah it’s often a preferred amp type, but in this instance it’s about the effects and modelling.
Think of it like an orange crush bass. I really love them, but I would advice most new players or people just looking for a bass amp to still get the fender or ampeg because it’s a one trick pony. It does the orange sound very well, the ampeg abs fender are more general purpose. Tbh I’m really including fender because it is good and to be democratic, in reality I recommend ampeg most of the time lol.

I swapped out the Katana for an Ampeg Rocket 115. Was I happier? Yeah, for about 5 minutes. Problem being for the princely sum of $100 Au I got my greasy little hands on an 100 wrms class A/B yum yum JBL D130 clone loaded ELKA DM100. Got it as a back up or originally that was the idea. Now I call it the albatros. Because it literally SHITS on everything below $2.5K Au retail new imho. It will remind bass players that the amp/speaker combo is as much a part of your instrument as you are. It responds to my fingers on the strings like a living organism. Its built tougher than a battle tank and looks cool....err in a cheesy kind of retro way 🙄

Rumble is still great for the £
At certain settings the Boss seemed to have a slight buzz at the end of a note. I have noticed this in other demos. I think the speaker Boss used is the issue here where the tones don't ring clean with clarity on basic tones. I love the features on this Boss, it's a shame. I can't un-hear it.
Mine does this. It's the tolex grill on the front. If I push my hand against it then it stops. I'm going to try to replace it with a metal facing/screen.

On my crappy PC speakers, the clear winner is the Katana. I'm currently A/B comparing these two on reviews and demos and will be going to the guitar shop this weekend to play them. I love Fender amps but the Boss is setting itself ahead in my mind.
I miss Nathan and Lee on All About the Bass more than I miss Chappers and the Captain. But I miss both pairs.

I got the Rumble 800 about six months ago. I mostly play guitar and piano. I didn’t even know. Boss had their own bass amp when I got the Fender.
I got the Rumble because I couldn’t find a Katana in a store to try.
I’m surprised you didn’t compare the Fender Rumble with all the settings, and emulations? Fender Rumble Ver. 2 is the best sounding, but the ver. 3 are more convenient, especially due to the weight. I have a 100 watt Fender ver. 1 and takes almost two people to carry it while my 800 only takes one. You do sacrifice some sound for the weight. Even nicer if you get the one that emulates the older fender bass tones as well as a bunch of pedals packed into one which is what I have. And you can connect it to another cabinet.
I think weight is relevant when gigging and possibly transporting up and down stairwells of rehearsal spaces- especially when you are an ol' fucker like me, it matters! At the end of the day, both amps are amazing in their own right but the rumble is 22lbs vs the 37lbs katana at the same price point. The katana with the modular effects , can spark more thinking-outside-the-box musicality, which is always lovely and probably worth the extra lift power if you're still a fit, spring chicken !

Boss Katana amps suck. The sound and speaker quality was sacrificed for the digital toys. The pad isn't sufficient for active basses and there is a fuzzy buzz that you can't get out of the bottom end sound even when run totally clean.

The Rumble 40 is actually a good jazz guitar amp. The depth of the cabinet lends a richness to the sound. But it has no effects, not even reverb. So if you already have a Multi effects processor, the Rumble can work for you that way. For bass on this demo, the Rumble sounds better up front with the tone controls flat. That’s because Fender built it to make that sound. The Katana can get that sound, among the many sounds within it… while the Rumble cannot get almost all the sounds within the Katana.
I have a Rumble 40 and need something with more headroom with a full band. Looking at the Rumble 500 combo or 800 head with 4x10 cab.
If all the guys at Andetons made a super band made of people from each department, they would become an instant celebrity

Man get the katana 2x10 it’s loud as hell responsive like a tube amp and the tone is sick with my active or my passive basses and it kills its as loud as a 500watts class d . The a/b have more headroom and it’s cuts through any guitar stacks and drums🤘🏻👍🏻
The Boss has great tone. But reliability is my concern. Many working bass players have been lugging around the Rumble 500 through lots of gigs and lots of playing hours without any problems with the Rumble. Will the Boss be as reliable, time will tell!
That’s a fact I bought the katana 60 and knew that if this things breaks I’m screwed it will cost an arm to fix a digital amp effect board but so far it’s a killer amp and man loud as hell as loins as my rumble 200 even louder I think 🤔 it’s so responsive you need to try one man🤘🏻

Well to be honest I totally prefer the Fender Rumble. It is just simple as sh*t, but it has a clear and understandable straight sound in all modes (Flat, Bright, Contour, Vintage). Fender Rumble is more punchy and it's incredibly light weight. I just ordered one yesterday and it arrives tomorrow, I can't wait. I'm gonna use it with a Tech 21 VT bass V2 Sansamp pedal and I think its gonna RUMBLE. I know it because the amp I had before was a Fender Rumble 150 (13 year old). That amp was so brutal in sound, but it was heavy as mud (40kgs). So I decieded to change it for a physically smaller and lighter amp with equal efficiency.
For me the Boss Katana was a disappointment, nevertheless it has so many effects built in etc. It feels like a "plastic" sound for me. It's only my honest opinion, unfortunately this combo did not convince me. In case of effects I own some pedals like EBS Octabass, Electro Harmonix Mono Synth, Ampeg Octacomp and Tech21 VT bass V2 Sansamp. Those effects are awesome and provide versatile and natural sounds. Together the Rumble and the pedals are going to be killer.

Easily, class AB amps are normally a lot louder than D type amps

I have the 210 and I played a gig with a loud drummer and a guitar player using a Boss Nextone Artist[80 watt 112 combo] in a high school auditorium on a large stage with no monitor support.It was plenty loud and had volume to spare.It should handle any sane pub situation.
I think the guy on the right did a huge bump of coke just before they started filming.
Interesting that the comments seem to favor the Katana. I much prefer the Fender by a mile. But its great that we have options :)
