Yes, you can separate them right before the entrance in the sorter, it's very easy. They won't cause any problems, and even boost spawning rates of your mob grinder, because you will increase spawning block count by removing the slabs. I just didn't do this because it's much more convenient to use cave spider spawners.
Sometimes zombie is unable to get at the pressure plate instantly, because snow golems are shooting and stunning him. The latest version of sorter prevents more zombies from entering there right when they open the door, so it's not a problem anymore.
There are some known bugs, when cat will teleport to you while sitting, but I never experienced that. You can see the bug list at the Cat article at Minecraft Wiki.
It's easy to sort endermen using their height, but I can't implement such system here because I'm using water in the spawner. I'd prefer to collect tons of endermen just by dropping all mobs from 23+ block height from waterless spawner if I have no access to the End.
Is there anyway to include spiders? And if so could you do a video on it please? Also is it possible to make a spider farm without a mob spawner? And can you have spiders in a general mob grinder?

Very compact, i would suggest adding a small wall to stop the creepers from crossing the gal diaganally :)

I built this and added a spider filter as well, and it can no sort spiders too.
