@Spagittified I built this EMP thing for me personally. People can use it if they want. The advantages of building these things will become more clear in my LP series when I get them fully setup like I'm planning.
Man stuff like this was revolutionary back then. Etho was the pioneer of creations like this

haven't yet watched it to the end, but you might wanna note that if you use this for "storing" mobs other than slimes, and use a central collection point, it's most effective to build them within 32m range of your collection point so that mobs don't despawn.
This is a very good tutorial. very clear and easy to follow instructions. 12-2-2013 I just built this on Xbox Edition update 8 and everything apart from the crusher works perfectly. Easy fix for the crusher is to replace the Glow stone with another block. Thank you Etho.
Etho you are a FREAKING GENIUS! You're awesome. I've tried a ton of mob spawning pads and grinders, none worked to well, then I found your videos, built your spawning system and attached an EMP to it, it works extremely well and I've barely cleared any caves! Thanks Etho for removing my reliance on InvGrid for TNT!

I'm glad I answered your question, but don't expect anyone else to do it for you. People just tend to write off these kinds of things as trolling, and then they almost never get answered.

@xxFragxClanxx It's called a mob trap. A lot of people build them. Basically you build a huge room that has zero light in it. Etho actually has a tutorial how to build one along with a "mobvator" as etho calls it. You can direct the mobs anywhere with water.
If you let the creeper get weakened a bit by the water, you can get the skeleton to finish it off instead of just provoking it into blowing the mobs up. You've invented the easiest way to get records ever!
The modification you had for small mobs works perfectly for tall ones too. If the lower piston activates later, they won't have anything to jump on before suffocating.

But the main reason is that he needs to control where and how mobs are released in order to perform certain experiments, hence EthosLABS. Also, he doesn't take all of the items, his system produces a constant stream of them. Lets say I want A LOT of gunpowder in order to strip mine a valley. These systems produce a lot of items, many of which I may not need at that particular moment.

There is something disturbing when you walk toward the EMP and start wondering which method you are gonna use to kill this batch of mob.

In the blooper, when you said 'yeah, don't do that' I lolled.
When you're wiring the top piston (the one that comes down with the glass block), you could save that extra piece of redstone by just placing another block above the redstone that's affected by the lever. This could help you out in the future, I think!

These items would fill up my inventory, so I would have to toss ones I don't want and hope I pick up gunpowder. It actually takes more time than It would to simply go and pick up the pile of gunpowder from one stream. In short, the more items the systems produce, the more organized they have to be in order for you to handle them. However much more time it takes to build these complex systems, you more than make up for when you use them.
Cool tut etho, but you can make the drowning/collecting water stream wiring more compact, you only need 3 torches and 3 stone and you stack the torches upwards.

Etho, would you suggest having the EMP units on your main floor, or above your main floor? It seems for the water-channels to work properly you'd have to be below them.

Etho! Make the entrance(s) to your base look like EMP units with levers for where you want to go! Eg: portal, mob farms, basement, mine, test-center and inside/outside!

Hey Etho, I need some help with the tube connection from my mobavator to my EMP unit. I would like the mobs to be fluently dropped in, but there are dry spots in the vertical tube I made to make them move. They are currently just pushing eachother in, but I just want them to flow all at once. Could you tell me how to fix this?
Can someone tell me what video i need to watch after this one to finish the mob spawner? I'm guessing it goes over what i have just built.

im having a problem, i making a trap atm, and i have a 25x25 platform with a 3 wide waterway. and i want to make the water go to one drop zone, but im having problems with getting the water past a corner, any ideas? or should i just build a HUGE one over the main collection area?

@EthosLab in the tweak at about 29 minutes where you change the crusher, doesn't it change it so that if the lava pit is open and you activate the crusher it will close it? It's not a big deal, but I just felt like you forgot it.
How do you get the mobs and animals to fall down there so you can collect there loot, if you can help please message me, or if there is a video talking about it, etho can you reply the video please thanks im having trouble doing it

Hey Etho, I play on a SMP server, and the crusher doesnt seem to crush, because when I pull the lever it doesnt crush the mobs, but they will get boosted up and stand on top of the extended blocks, any way to fix this?
I'm pretty sure you can. Just wire a button to a dispenser with splash potions of poison. Then I think just open the bottom part of the "door" (the same one you use for the water to move the drops to the collection point) and kill the mobs from there.
You need to light up almost all of the caves within a 128 block radius of where you stand at the spawner to get the best rates.

Is the Crusher supposed to disable the Floor Piston when activated? I can't open the floor when the Crusher is activated

@PsionicGaming Mr Astley was a tamed Creeper and the only reason he had to die was because someone need gunpowder for some potion for Old_Peculiar.
Etho, I used this for my Mobavator and it works great except the spiders don't go down the hole and clog up the whole system. Is there a way to make sure spiders don't get in or to get them to go down?
HELP! Etho, I just built this awesome device today, but the Crusher function doesn't work! I don't understand why, but whenever I activate it, the mobs are pushed into the glass and just stand there unharmed. I tried replacing the glass with stone, but that didn't work. Does glass not chrush mobs anymore?
I tried attaching it to a hostile mob system but mine keeps getting gunked up by spiders. They keep blocking other mobs from entering the EMP.
What happens when you open both water and lava? Will lava tourn into obsidian, or is that flowing lava down there?
Instead of putting that lava there right next to the piston, maybe you could move the lava source like 4 blocks away so the mobs fall through less lava? It would be less compact but maybe it would solve the problem with mobs just stopping and swimming in it.
@EthosLab at 28:52 wouldn't that stop taller mobs from jumping to prevent suffocation because then it doesn't need to be modified for each mob height coz it works withh all
@Spagittified Have you taken a moment to see how Etho uses his mob trap? He doesn't park in a collection point and afk; he grabs stuff when he passes by while building other things. Your method doesn't work for that style of play, it only works for people who sit in the grinder.
And if you can get to the nether you already have a lava garbage disposal. It's less hassle in the long run if you just sort your mobs. Or are you one of those people who's opposed to something like the cell phone?
Etho you should have a unit with all mobs in your ice base. All the tubes for each mob would have a junction, one to their individual unit, one to the 'all' one.
nice idea on EMP the real EMP is like an energy absorber there is also an EMP bomb
Etho, dont you realize that for small animals like passive mobs you can replace the sandstone block (that the mobs stand on) with a fence for containing wolves and pigs, and also squid (and spiders too). It wont work for chickens, but they are quite useless as drops (eggs are more useful).

hey etho i went by this tutorial perfectly and connected my emp to my spawning pads but when i got close to the emp i think a skeleton hit a creeper and blew up the whole thing. any way i can prevent this?
you should make a stone pressure plate on the bottem of the EMP so if a monster lands on it a piston blocks the top so no more creatures can enter
I'd like to leave some props. In my MC: XBE server just finshed the hostile mob system (30x30x3) + Mobvator, then connected an E.M.P. Unit to each side. A wee modification to the delivery system, and it works like a dream! Thanks Etho, would have never had it w/o ya'. :D

do u hv to use sandstone? i know it seems stupid, but the reply vids r also using sand stone. so..?
For Some Reason when I turn the water off The piston stays retracted and I have to replace the piston to get it to work again. I am on a server also.
Etho, if you place the lava block one higher, so it flows down one space, the mobs with be pushed down and all of them will fall through.

Why don't the mobs swim up above the water? What's keeping them in the water to drown?
There is actually a problem with the EMP, if you activate the trapdoor then the crusher, the crusher will not come out. Although I don't see how you want the trap door and the crusher on at the same time, but just wanted to let you know.
I made my own version of this. It has three levers. One opens the bottom glass block, the other opens the top glass block. The thrid uses pistons to suffocated the mobs. You can use it for xp, by suffocating them until they hvae one heart, then killing them

@Rouzhokuu there is no mob spawner above at all he just attached a tube to his own mob elevator. if you watch another of his videos you may be able to find a link to download his world and see for your self how he did it. anyway the mob spawner it's undergound

@ianman1976 It's because he got rid of the grass on his island to help his passive mob spawner work better.
Of course it does, something so simple(lol) can't mess up that easily
@Lythiaren if you put one of every item you want in each of your slots you will only gather thoughs items
lets say you only want gunpowder, bones, and arrows.
if you take 12 of every one you can fill up your inventory with singular version of it. this makes it so only that item can accumulate in that specific spot. more of thoughs items none of the other... also is it REALLY that much trouble to build a fucking fire with nether rack and use that to burn all the items you don't want?
@SephirothCrescent8 Make a diagonal stream towards where your drop is and place a sign so that the water stops at the edge

@Lythiaren either way the items will end up in the same place... if he just kept the water running and blocked off the water release valve, the items would sink to the bottom and he could go to the corner to gather them up, it does not matter how you kill them, just that they are killed... thats the only problem I'm having with this now
Why exactly have different methods of killing the monsters? I can now see that pigs are an exception due to cooked porkchops with fire but my point remains...
A better idea for the sizzler would be to attach the suffocater block to a double extender and then have a lava sorce 4 blocks away with a switch lifting a side block, with a ladder/sign to hold the lava up, if this makes sence?
I have a problem with mobs escaping from the EMP unit when I relog into my world
For 1.2.5 all you really need to do is change the crusher block with a different one, eg. Sandstone, Stone, Planks, Cobble, etc. Thumbs up so people can see!

I've said it many times, I don't understand building non-practical buildings in minecraft. if they're meant for aesthetics only I could understand that but if it's for a reason that defies both practicality and aesthetics it just bothers the ever living hell out of me

@Ethoslab For your 30 minute challenge, I suggest the idea of you trying to kill one of every mob (friendly and all hostile) using your fist or a wooden sword.

Very good design Etho. I do have one problem though on my Xbox world with this build. When the mobs drop down they sometimes pile up on-top of the front sticky piston and stay there. One other thing, They also jump when the mobs pile up in the normal spot they should pile up.
Anyway to overcome these problems?
