If you continue to do Pentatonix, you will gain about 20,000 new viewers. The Pentaholics are a fiercely loyal audience, and PTX has a catalogue reaching 10 years back - the fans will absolutely lead you to the best of the best of them. And yes they are all American--I'm charmed that you thought Scott's accent was Scandinavian - he's from Texas.

GUYS if you want to hear them live, check out "Hallelujah" at the Christmas concert. It's absolutely jaw-dropping. It's before Matt, the bass, joined the group, so it is with their old bass, Avi Kaplan, who is equally remarkable. So glad you watched them! I honestly wish I had gotten to discover them through my channel, like you guys, but hey - I was in an a capella group in college, so I didn’t have much of a choice. Loved this.

Your worship needs to get under control. It’s fine to love them. But don’t give them titles they don’t deserve. Their extremely visible presence, particularly online, makes it easy to drown out other groups.
Voctave performs Pentatonix under the table any day. No one comes close to their arrangements, range, or blend. That doesn’t mean Pentatonix isn’t great. Of course they are. But they’re not even close to being any redefining of a capella.

All members are American. The three in the middle (L-R) Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado, Scott Hoying & Mitch Grassi, all grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and have known each other since they were children. They started performing in local youth musical theater, then also went to high school together and performed in their school choir. While still in high school, they first formed an a cappella group called The Trio and had a couple of videos go viral on RUclips, including a cover of Lady Gaga's "Telephone". After graduating high school in 2010, Kirstie & Scott each went off to separate colleges (Mitch was a year behind them and still in high school). They all reunited a year later when Scott secured an audition for them on a televised a cappella singing competition show called The Sing Off. Just before the audition, they discovered that they needed at least five members in order to audition. They brought in original bass singer Avi Kaplan from California (not seen in this video) through a mutual friend, then found beatboxer Kevin "K.O." Olusola (on the far right side in this video) from Kentucky through one of his viral videos on RUclips in which he was "cello-boxing", a term he coined himself, in which he beatboxes and plays the cello at the same time (Kevin was already an accomplished world-class cellist by the time he was a teenager and played Carnegie Hall while still in high school). Kevin joined the group literally the day before the audition! They changed their name to Pentatonix, after the musical Pentatonic Scale, adding the "X" to the end because they thought it looked cool! Despite all coming together at the last minute, they passed the audition, then went on to win The Sing Off Season 3! One of the prizes for winning was a recording contract with Epic Records. The five of them pooled the money they had won from the competition and all moved to California to begin their recording career, only to have their contract cancelled because Epic Records had decided that an a cappella group wouldn't sell (apparently a compilation that Epic had released featuring all the Sing Off contestants had been a poor seller). Rather than give up, the group decided to stay together and began recording their own music and videos and releasing them on RUclips. This included covers and original material, as well as Christmas recordings, and the group soon picked up a HUGE following. A small Sony-owned record label known for releasing film soundtrack albums began releasing Pentatonix recordings, and they did fairly well. Then the group produced a mind-blowing video and recording of a medley of songs from the European electronic music duo Daft Punk that not only went super-viral, it also won Pentatonix their first Grammy Award (they have gone on to win two more). Sony soon reassigned them to the major RCA label, and they have since gone on to huge success with multi-platinum-selling albums and sold-out worldwide concert tours. They are particularly well-known for their Christmas music, releasing a new Christmas album almost every year. They NEVER record traditional arrangements of Christmas songs, always coming up with amazing and innovative new arrangements that make you wish that EVERYBODY sang the songs their way! In 2017, the constant touring and recording finally got to be too much for Avi, and he decided to amicably step away from the group, but helped find his replacement Matt Sallee (on the far left in this video), a native of Maryland. After taking more than a year away from the music industry, Avi has now returned with a solo career in which he records some phenomenal music in the Folk/Roots/Americana genres. In February, after a delay of almost a year, Pentatonix released their new album The Lucky Ones, which is made up entirely of songs the group members wrote themselves. It is a masterpiece! But in all honesty, ANYTHING you listen to from this group will leave you speechless...it's ALL fantastic!

Awesome reaction! Pentaholics are going to swarm your channel. You would love their videos Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine. Scott Hoying The blonde that starts the song, baritone. Starts 85% of their songs, group leader, default lead singer (this group doesn’t have an official one) He also takes over bass when Avi(original bass or Matt , the new bass in this video sings lead).
*Avi Kaplan, bass. Incredible range and gorgeous sound, left the group amicably in 2017 after helping find his replacement (Matt Sallee). Only lineup change, and since Avi & Matt look nothing alike, you’ll know at a glance which one it is.
*Kevin Olusola, beatboxer/tenor/cellist. Rarely sings, and if he does then 9.5 times out of 10 it will be harmonies. But that 10th time when he does sing lead...epic. Has the ridiculous level of talent to be able to beatbox while playing the cello, and he demonstrates in a handful of songs.
*Kirstin Maldonado, mezzo-soprano. The only lady, sang mostly backup in the early years, but has gained confidence since a 2018 stint on Broadway (Kinky Boots) and has been taking lead more often since then. Changes hair color and style frequently, so some people don’t recognize her from video to video.
*Mitch Grassi, tenor/countertenor. He calls himself a tenor, but many fans/reactors say countertenor. Roughly the same range as Kirstie, actually more likely to have the highest notes. All the others say he’s the best singer in the group. Changes style even more frequently (and drastically) than Kirstie, I can almost guarantee that you will ask ‘who’s that guy?/but where is Mitch?’ when watching some of the early videos.
PTX does have original music though about 2/3 of their songs are covers. Original songs: Run to You, Love Again, Can’t Sleep Love, Sing, & Happy Now (bran

OMG, you guys have NO idea what you are in for, besides a hell of a lot more subscribers. Pentatonix/(PTX for short) is an all-American, 3-time Grammy award-winning acappella group that has a very faithful/rabid fan base. By rabid, I mean we "Pentaholics" follow their every move. They are big in America, although ironically, they get little radio play with the exception of their Christmas music (they have released 7 Christmas albums). They just released an all-original album titled 'The Lucky Ones." It's their second album of originals. They are mainly known for doing outstanding covers that often surpass the original in quality and arranging. They also do wicked mash-ups in which the transitions between songs are seamless. I've seen them in concert. They sound just like their studio recordings. They follow the philosophy that if what they record in the studio can't be exactly reproduced live, they won't do it. They rarely use any effects or auto tune. (They used a bit of auto tune for effect on their latest video release of the "Decade of the 90's" because they wanted to sound like Cher's original "Believe." Other than that, I cannot think of one example where they have used auto tune). They are known for NOT using effects on their songs. A quick primer: Scott, the blonde who started off the song, is a baritone but has ridiculous range and does bass when their bass singer, Matt Sallee, guy in white jacket, takes the lead. You will see older videos of PTX where their bass was different. Avi Kaplan, their former bass -- he looks like Jesus with his long hair and beard -- left the group in 2017 on great terms. Too long to explain here why he left, but I recommend the video in which Avi -- surrounded by PTX members for support -- announced he was leaving the group. Mitch, the guy who sang second, is a counter-tenor, an especially rare range for a male singer. He usually sings higher than in this video, but again, he has great range. Kirstin (or Kirstie, which rhymns with "thirsty") is a mezzo-soprano/soprano and was using her lower range in this video. Kevin Olusola is a beast; a freak of nature. He is the beat boxer, who also is a classically trained cellist, plays several instruments and speaks fluent Mandarin. When he beat boxes and plays the cello at the same time, he calls it "cello-boxing." You MUST check out his solo work, especially his version of Marian Hill's "Down." It will blow your mind. He just released another solo album. Other fun facts: Kirstie has performed on Broadway, starring in the musical "Kinky Boots." Mitch and Scott have a side project/group called "Superfruit." Both are members of the LGBTQ+ community. You also have to check out their Superfruit stuff, especially "Guy.Exe." Kirstie has done her own solo music, releasing a CD titled "Love" and for which many videos exist. Avi, who left the group, has his own solo career. His style is more folk/Americana. I highly suggest checking out his "Change on the Rise" video. His singing voice and creativity are pure heaven. I met Avi during his last tour with PTX. He is a humble, sweet man, and all the PTX members are humble and grounded. There are no divas in the group, despite performing with such legends as Dolly Parton. Check out their video performing with her on "Jolene." Both Dolly and PTX won a Grammy for their collaboration. If you truly want to hear them live and compare them to a studio version, I suggest their version of "Hallelujah." One is an official video, and the other is totally live, which they performed at one of their nationally-televised Christmas specials. It will floor you and give you more goosebumps once you see/understand the level of their talent. I suggest doing both in one video. I think being British, you would love their version of "Bohemian Rhapsody." Brian May even tweeted their video and said simply, "Enjoy." OK, done with the novel. Sorry. Just trying to give you some background on the group. P.S. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin are childhood friends and all dated each other at one point.

Welcome to the world of Pentatonix, or PTX for short. Get ready for a quick boost to your channel from their rabid fans who call ourselves “Pentaholics”. Here is a quick intro to the group.
PTX is a five member “a Capella” (without instruments) vocal band formed in 2011 for the NBC television reality competition show “The Sing Off”. The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of:
SCOTT HOYING, (male, 6’3”, usually blond) who sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead.
MITCH GRASSI, (male, 5’10”, normally black hair but has changed body mass, wardrobe and hair style so much in videos he’s often mistaken for different people) who has an amazingly high range (contra tenor) that some mistake for a second female voice.
KIRSTIN MALDONADO, (female, 5’4”, natural hair color is black but changed it often in videos) who sings mezzo soprano and, for a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”.
Added to “the trio” for the show were:
AVI KAPLAN, (Male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind) is a classically trained “basso profundo”. He provides the vocal bass line as well as added vocal percussion but often uses his upper registry to sing vocal leads in a number of arrangements. Avi is the ONLY member of the band that has change. He left on good terms in 2017 for reasons related to conflicting demands of the band’s touring schedule and his personal/family commitments. He assisted the group in finding his replacement Matt Sallee.
KEVIN OLUSOLA (male, 6’1”, black, changing hair style) known as “KO” was asked to join PTX to provide vocal percussion after Scott watched a RUclips video of him “cello boxing” (beatboxing while playing his cello). KO is the classic over achiever of the group. He plays Cello, Piano, and Saxophone all at concert levels. He graduated pre-med from Yale, speaks Spanish and spent over a year in China where he became fluent in Chinese. He sings Tenor but vocals were not his strong suite when he started so he worked with other band members and a vocal coach until while on tour he would perform the featured vocals in "if I ever fall in love", (originally performed by guest artist Jason Derulo for the album and video). He also writes and produces music both individually and for the group. So, KO is more than “just the beatboxer”.
The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is:
MATT SALLEE, (male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair) who replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 to provide vocals, vocal bass and percussion. Matt can be heard using his exceptional upper vocal range to provide a rich tenor/baritone lead often ending with a slide down to a deep bass punch.
Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches!
1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good.
2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen.
3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.
    Enjoy the ride.

I've come across your guys' channel a few times over the last half a year or so. You always have good reactions. But im especially glad you started doing PTX reactions. They have quite the loyal fanbase, so you WILL be found by the Pentaholics! Hope you do more in the future. They just recently released a 90's Dance Medley that is quite fun and nostalgic.

you need to go down a pentatonix rabbit hole- like others have said, Hallelujah is awesome, but also their cover of Imagine is beautiful too. for something more upbeat, they do a Daft Punk medley that is pretty creative! oh- and their cover of 'Say Something' is my favourite- kind of a sad song but so beautiful

Another different (and more original) take on a cappella is Home Free. The fans are called Home Fries, and they are a country-inspired group with one of the most diverse catalogs. They sing everything from country, R&B, classic rock, and gospel, and it doesn’t all sound the same. They also don’t take themselves seriously and are a LOT of fun. Many of their vids are just for their fans and not “music vids.” You could begin with Ring of Fire (with Avi, an original member of Pentatonix), How Great Thou Art, Blue Ain’t Your Color, Everybody Walking This Land, and End of the Road. For funny vids, watch their Butts Remix, 15 Song Mashup, and Pirate Sea Shanties. There’s just so much to choose from. And yeah...the Fry Nation will come calling to watch your reaction vids as you turn from a tater tot into a Home Fry.

Whenever someone starts with PTX, I always suggest they start at the beginning. That way you see the progression of the group over the years. They began on the show The Sing Off, which is how and why the group was formed. They have grown as artists and are considered the best. The Grammy’s actually created a category for them, that’s how great they are.

Here are some PTX songs that have the other members leading
You're a Mean One Mr Grinch - Max
    Say Something - Kirstin
New Rules x Are you That Somebody - Scott
Aha! (The live version would be the best choice) - Mitch
Mary Did You Know? - Kevin doesnt lead this but it has a nice section where he gets to sing
Their Medlys and Mashups are also great covers and showcase each person and their creativity in how they arrange the songs.
Another amazing accapella group is Home Free, their cover of Rings of Fire featured Avi Kaplan on it, the former bass singer of PTX who left the group for personal reasons.

Scott, Mitch, & Kirstin (the trio in the middle) are all from Texas and went to high school together. Kevin, the vocal percussionist, they joined up with before they competed on The Sing-Off season 3 in 2011 and ended up winning. Kevin sometimes plays his cello, but other than that they are an a cappella group. Matt, the bass singer, is the newest member who came in after Avi, the former bass singer who they joined up with before The Sing Off, decided to leave the group in 2017.
They won 3 Grammies for their arrangements of their Daft Punk medley and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy cover and won one for their performance of Jolene with Dolly Parton. They are always popular during Christmas time with their covers and even original Christmas music. Early days PTX has a bunch of awesome themed mash-up videos. They have a ton of great cover songs and original music. Scott & Mitch have even released music as a duo under the name Superfruit. Kevin has done some solo stuff with his cello music. Kirstin had a run in Kinky Boots on Broadway. They have done a bunch of live performances like concerts, tv morning shows, talent show guest appearances like America’s Got Talent (Simon Cowell was even impressed LOL), the National Anthem, New Year’s Eve in NYC, etc.
I first discovered them in 2013 from their Radioactive ft. Lindsey Stirling video on RUclips.

Hey, you aren't the only one who thinks Scott looks Scandi. I always think of this 6'4" blond as "the Viking Prince." But that's just his externals. The guy, a baritone, can sing bass, which he does when the bass, Matt, is singing, and up into the lyric tenor range, at least five octaves. But they are ALL phenomenal, individually and as a group, famous for their one-take perfection, and their amazing arrangements. I subscribed today, so please go watch their latest: "90's DANCE MEDLEY." It's a foot stomping bop! You'll get a glimpse of their versatility!

If you do a YT search for 'Pentatonix official videos' and then for 'Pentatonix live concert' ... pick any song that shows on both and listen to them back-to-back - other than slight differences in timing & tempo, you'll find *they're the same!* This is deliberate with them, they don't want to 'cheat' one set of fans for a different set.

If you want a song that provides a chance to hear all of them sing individually you want Amazing Grace. Matt (the bass) starts the song, then the trio (Scott - baritone, Mitch - counter tenor, and Kirstie - mezzo soprano) do a verse each and then Kevin (the beat boxer) closes the song out. Also they have more than once said they don't do a song that they can't do live, so you will rarely see instruments be used but if they are, you *will* see the instrument, they don't hide them. However Kevin plays the cello (and has in several of their songs), and Scott can play the piano. For a song that shows the versatility of Mitch's skills, their version of Bohemian Rhapsody is a must see. The bass for that song is Avi Kaplan (who left the group amicably in 2017 and chose Matt as his successor) who was classically trained and in the early years was known for blowing out speakers in their live performances with some of his low notes.

I echo what everyone else has said: if you go down this rabbit hole, you will not be able to turn back. You will also pick up thousands of subscribers
    Glad you’ve discovered Pentatonix. Enjoy.
    By way of introduction:
Matt is the gentleman on the far left. He is the bass. He is the only member of the group who is not an original member. He replaced Avi (the original bass) after he left for personal reasons.
    The lady is Kirstie
The gentleman in the middle is Scott. The group doesn’t really have a “lead”, but if they did it would be him.
The countertenor (and he is a true countertenor) is Mitch, and easily the most beloved of the group.
The beatboxer is Kevin. He has perfect pitch, an eidetic memory, and dropped out of med school at Yale to join Pentatonix. He also is fluent in Mandarin.

Wow I love office blokes and I love pentatonix, a great crossover! Hope u guys react to more, pentatonix is the best acapella group of all time, promise they won’t disappoint!
They are all American btw, the members are:
Scott Hoying- blonde one in the middle
Kirstin Maldonado- the woman, also goes by kirstie
Mitch Grassi- the one with the mullet, his high notes will blow ur mind if u react to future songs
Matt Sallee- the base on the far left
Kevin Olusola- the beatboxer on the far right
The group formed in 2011, with all of the members seen here except Matt, the original base was Avi Kaplan, who left the group amicably in 2017 to spend more time with his family, and he helped find his own replacement in Matt. The 3 main singers, Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie all grew up together in Arlington Texas. Kevin is a genius, he does a lot more than just beatbox, and u will see that if u do more reactions. Don’t want to say too much, but that should be good introduction. Cheers!
Oh, and btw at the end u guys are saying there’s a lot of production, there isn’t much. They have a bit, but for the most part they can do all of their songs exactly the same way live. They pride themselves on only doing things they can replicate in person

Y'all tawk funny...not like us Texans. The tall blond guy is Scott Hoying-Baritone; the girl is Kirsten Maldonado, Mezzo-Soprano; the guy next to Scott is Mitch Grassi, Counter-Tenor; the guy in the white jacket is Matt Sallee, Basso-Profundo; the Beatboxer is Kevin Olusola, Tenor/Cellist/Cellist Beatboxer. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch met in a high school in Arlington, TX (between Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX). After graduation, they went to different colleges and majored in music. They got back together to enter a TV singing competition called "Sing-Off." They required 5-person goups, so, Kevin and Matt come on-board from referrals. They are the best. The orginal group who composed "Sound of Silence," was "Simon & Garfunkel" in 1964, and was considered a "warning" of things to come. The 2nd to cover this song was a metal group called "Disturbed" in 2015, and is an angry version that'll knock your socks off. Pentatonix is Latin for 5 (Penta), and tones (Tonix), lovingly known at PTX. Their version sounds more like hope, performed 2019.
