Oh... and I'm sorry that I kept the background music going for a little longer in this, I do restart the music video so you do get to hear it without! Apologies!
Please respond: do you want this song by Disturb for Voiceplay to do especially Geoff will take full lead.
@@deanmarion5477 I'd love for Voice Play to do every cover of every song on Earth.
Oh, Jen! That's wonderful! Congrats on the album! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@abeldiaz3877 : that’s the spirit
Actually, I believe you've heard Scott sing even lower...it was he who picked up the bass line in Hallelujah when Avi sang that second verse. He has amazing versatility and a very, very wide range. I had to chuckle when I saw you get the goose bumps with Scott's final verse...I've seen this video probably 100 times, and it does that to me too...every single time.
He also picked up the bass when Matt solo’d in this video!
Oddly I didn't realize that Scott did that until I watched them sing that song live.
Same, every single time
They usually do their own arrangements, as a group effort in conjunction with Ben Bram, who’s the hidden sixth member and officially labeled as arranger/producer.
I have seen soooo many reactions to this song but you are one of the rare few that recognize how amazing Scott's range is in this song. Starting out so low and ending so high... everyone CRUSHED this !!!! Thank you so much for doing PTX this week! I love your analysis!!
Thank you 😁
I've been a big follower of Pentatonix since the SingOff and I'm still amazed the amount of sounds comes out of only 5 voices.
You're kind of right in that "we don't get that much from them" with Matt going to bass there. Even with Avi, Pentatonix is way more sparing it putting in low and high notes. They do it for sure, and to great effect, but way less than the other big acapella groups. Which is honestly one of the reasons I personally prefer them to the other groups. The other groups tend to pull me out of the performance with too high or low notes or different shown off techniques. Still very impressive and I get why other people might love it. But personally I'm very fond of Pentatonix very intentional use of tricks and moments, leaving space for an easy listening experience while still being kind of "undercover technically impressive" at points.
i disagree, pentatonix just tends to shines on the high register with mitch more so than the low one. whereas a voiceplay or a home free will leave some place for the bass to bass, pentatonix gets their umph with higher notes than either of the other groups (i'm not even counting Kirstin) but they're just as showy with their technically impressive stuff
It also kinda makes sense, out of the 3 they're the only group with a very high tenor and a woman, a big drop would be that much bigger since they hold the line higher
I agree with you. Pentatonix tends to play a cooler game, holding their best cards for those spectacular moments when they are most impactful, and often sliding them in where you might miss them if you aren't paying attention. I think a lot of that comes from the broad range of musical training Kevin and Avi had at the get-go, plus the genius of Ben Bram, of course. If you watch their early performances on the Sing-Off, they're really all over the place trying to show off everyone's talent. It didn't take them long to sort out the 'less is more' principle, and now we wait expectantly for those exquisite displays of unique skill they slide into a masterfully crafted arrangement. The low bass notes don't ring my bell like Mitch or Kirstie's highs, but they do make my belly tremble, just a little! 🙂
@@grischad20 I agree with Rebecca. You tend to see home free and voiceplay using their highest of the highs and lowest of the lows almost as a show off moment where as Ptx uses them more sparingly and where it will highlight the music. Ptx may come across as highlighting the highs more but part of it is that’s Mitch’s natural singing voice. Usually singing in same octave as Kirstie. Where tenors in the other groups can hit the notes but it’s not their main register. They have lower speaking voices where Mitch’s is naturally higher resulting in a higher placement when he sings.
They were just nominated for their 4th Grammy for their album, Evergreen!!!
Appreciate your analysis and enthusiasm for PTX, thank you.
Thank you!
I can’t wait for you to hear their new album. They all sound fabulous, but Scott’s voice has matured so much.
Ooh can’t wait!
Scott’s new solo song “mars” is also amazing!!
@@JenniferGlatzhofer just know that when Avi or Matt has a singing lead Scott is doing the bass! This gets overlooked A LOT!
When Avi or Matt are singing solos, Scott fills in the background bass.
They just killed it like always amazing fantastic reaction love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
They did! Thank you 😁
Interesting to hear it broken down so well. Would love to watch you react to a longer video of them behind the scenes. It's the Recording of Evergreen (last yerar's Xmas album)It is a great insight into how they put together their songs. I think most Pentaholics have watched it several times and then watch it again with any reactor. 😄Slightly obsessed group🤗
I know what you mean about being a proud parent. I've been rooting for them since they appeared on the Sing off. I'm from the Simon and Garfunkel era and this is such an upgrade of an already wonderful song. Love your videos!
No one ever mentions how the guy at the other end plays those special sound effects that make this cover what it is; Amazing!
You have heard Scott down there before. He takes over the bass line when Avi sings his solo in Halleluiah.
This is the very first time I ever saw them.. I watched this video like 100 times back to back... I just couldn't get enough
Love this group and really like this song!!! I know every word! I was around when Simon & Garfunkel were so popular! I enjoy this arrangement. Thanks for a great analysis!
Almost like Scott is the solid trunk of the Christmas tree this group is. The others add armfuls of branches and beautiful decorations, eyecatching glorious shiny additions, all supported by Scott.
Imagine being the arranger of these expert vocalists! Get them to individually sing it through their way, notate each one. Merge the notations together, then after their first run-through ask Kirsten "so on the 3rd and 4th beats of the fifth bar of the second chorus, could you add a pullout from the harmony and drop 3 semi-tones?" A chuckle runs round the group because they know she was planning to cook Easter dinner but she just nods, grins and kicks Mitch lightly in the shin under the desk. He responds with a dramatic Shakespearean death scene, winds up on his back on the floor with Kirsten on top beating him mercifully with open fists and a big grin.
IMAGINE for the absolute apex of their wall of sound (and feels).
Your reaction to this was delightful! Equal parts SME and fangirl. I had the same reaction to the unison run at the end. Loved it! Their latest release, Prayers For This World will blow your socks off. Scott and Kirstie especially shine. Scott’s performance stunned me.
You had the exact same reaction to that last chord on "sound" as I did. Just stunningly brilliant. Great reactions as always Jen!
this one is turning out to be the one i listen to the most ... really enjoyed this one Jenn ... thanks for all the Pentatonix reactions that you do .. i loved your reaction to Kirstin .. that made my day ..
Great reaction, Jennifer! Love the things you cover. Coming into the holiday season, I’m sure you would love to hear their song “Mary Did You Know?” It is stunning, in my opinion. I always get the chills listening to it.
So this was going to be an option but I shall keep for December!😁
Would love you to do a reaction to PTX Mary did you know.
@@JenniferGlatzhofer you have to understand, Pentatonix Christmas Music is fair game year round!!! It's not limited to December!🎄🥰☺️
I LOVE watching music-lovers react to PTX. Especially this song and Hallelujah! So awesome to watch someone feel what I felt!
Hello from the States. You are one of my favorite to watch.
Thank you😁
best cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic I've ever heard
Excellent, informed and enthusiastic reaction! Thank you very much.
Thank you!
Great reaction and analysis to this amazing Pentatonix video. I enjoyed it a great deal. I love that you are so interesting and informative. Thank you. The video has crossed to over 132 million views since you recorded your reaction. I'm looking forward to your next Pentatonix reaction.
Quick note. Kevin is also a singer. He is so good at the rhythm section he doesn't get a lot of chances. Watch him in the very last line of the song Kevin and Matt both join in on the harmony there. My ear isn't exactly well trained. I can't actually pick out his voice but maybe you can! 🥰❤
Love the reaction. It's always great to hear the cheeky humor and watch your facial reactions. Personally not a vocalist but I have always enjoyed watching.
You are so full of knowledge 😍 great reaction! It was amazing ❤
This one is right up there with my all-time favorites of Pentatonix!! Love your analysis and your reactions! ❤
Super reaction. I love your analysis, but I love even more how engaged you are in the music. Perfect left brain/right brain balance, imo. I'm here or more Pentatonix, any time!
I love your vocal breakdowns they're so interesting!
I just love your knowledge and enthusiasm - the mix of the two make your reactions really enjoyable
I have watched many reactions to this song, but you are the first who seemed to love the same parts as me. The “echo” when Kristen sang “word”, followed by Scott then Mitch, and the part at the end with the drop down “and the words”
Your reaction and analysis video never disappoint! I loved this as any other! Can't wait for tomorrow.
Thank you 😁
You will find it fun to watch a live concert performance of this song.
I come back up to watch you every day!!!
Two more Pentatonix songs: Bohemian Rhapsody, yes it's a cappella, Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Imagine.
😁😁
I second the Can You Feel the Love Tonight ❣️
One of their top five songs. This one is going to blow your mind. Enjoy yourself Jen ☺️
I really like this arrangement as well. I have listened to this many times, and watching you, I learned about, and heard things I have never heard before. Thank you for another wonderful, informative, and enjoyable reaction Jen.
Thank you!
You'rw gorgeous. I love how you always truly get envolved and listens everything. I can share with you every sense and thought you share. You're awsome!
I'd love to see your reaction and analysis of their most recent video: Prayers For This World.
It's absolutely stunning!
i absolutely love your vocal analysis, it's always so important to see a reaction from someone who knows what's happening vocally, so thank you so much for the pentatonix week and hopefully we'll see you react to them a little more often? they have so much music, you'd be busy for a while ;)and for more scott grittyness you shoud check out their newest 'prayers for this world'. a warning tho, it's recorded with an orchestra cause their new xmas album isnt acapella :)
Oh amazing! Thank you😁
parts of it is still acapella, but yes - it's definitely more instruments than they've used before. It's never quite a full orchestra though - it's usually one or a few instruments highlighted like guitar, drums, string section etc.
and of course there are a bunch of features on the album - either musicians or singers.
That last 15 seconds or so feels like that misty, warm rain that happens on a summer day when it's still sunny out. Soft, cleansing, warm, relaxing
I absolutely love your reactions and analyses. You both crack me up and educate me at the same time! 😅❤️❤️
Ahah yay! Thank you😁
They normally arrange their own songs with Ben Bram, who also produces their songs
Loved your reaction and description of this masterpiece.
The videography on this was by Ben Hausdorf, Kirstin's long-time partner and now father of her daughter, Evie (Elliana Violet). He also did the video "The Making of Evergreen," which was referenced downthread, shoots their on-tour videos, and is in the Grinch suit for Matt's holiday showcase "Mr. Grinch." (And of course their arranger is Ben Bram ... two important Bens for PTX.)
love your reaction. your voice and cute facial expressions keep me entertained! great energy too
I like the fact that they videotaped this in an empty warehouse or could be an empty airport hangar that leaves a nice reverb or echo effect. Great reaction Jennifer and I subscribed to your channel. See you tomorrow!! ❤
I am, as always, loving your reactions and learning so much! You started PTX week with two of my very favorites, can't wait to see what comes next!
Thank you😁
My first watch of any of your videos. Great breakdown.
You should do a reaction to their "Making Of Evergreen". It shows a lot of behind the scenes things that you would surely enjoy.
Jennifer, Even though I finding your frequent stops a bit disconcerting I really, really appreciate your analysis. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you, thank you!
Ptx really knock it out of the park with this one. Great reaction, Jen. Love you picking out the BV harmonies for attention. As you kept saying there's so much going on! 😅
Another fantastic reaction, Jennifer. I know that I said this yesterday, but I must reiterate that I love your animation and obvious enjoyment when you are listening and reacting! And I learn so much from your technical expertise. Thanks for another great reaction!!
Ahaha thank you again! 😁
Listen to Scott's version of I Should Tell Ya Momma on You. That's going to knock your socks off!!
It's good to see Scott getting some love. Most reactors are so enamoured with Mitch because he's a novelty, a guy with the vocal range of a female who sings brilliantly and Avi or Matt because bass is so sexy, Kevin because it's like he swallowed a drum kit, Scott and Kirsten often get overlooked a bit.
Loved the reaction, I always enjoy informed commentary on how good they are! New subscriber in the hope that Pentatonix will continue to be in the mix. You’re right (of course you are) that Scott has tremendous range. He released his first solo recently, called Mars, in which his range is totally on exhibit. If you decide to react to it, you may want to include the teaser he released just beforehand. It’s an a capella snippet of the song that shows what a vocal beast he is. The teaser is called Mars Now Available Everywhere or something close to that. I’m off to check out Amazing Grace. Peace from Ohio …
I love your reactions. Just found you and am up at 2:25AM, can't sleep, and I keep saying one more. This is probably my favorite PTX song (prolly cuz I'm old). Honestly your analysis goes over my head as I cannot sing. I cannot carry a tune at all. But you are fascinating. Your knowledge and passion have me mesmerized. I mean it's like watching how astronauts train to go the moon. I know I'm never going to be an astronaut, but am still fascinated by it. With you, I know I will never be a singer, or sing well for that matter, but still you have me wanting to hear about it and how these singers do what they are doing. Thank you for the energy you put into these videos.
Thank you so much 😊
No matter how many times I hear this song, I get chills at the unison run into the power chord. I'm SO glad you had a similar reaction. I
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
Enjoyed your informative reaction to this amazing cover!
Fantastic!! Both he video and the analysis.
I love your voice and your analysis is sooooo amazing. Not a great Pentatonix fan, but some of their work was outstanding.
@16:13: you got goosebumps, didn't you? Admit it: you got GOOSEBUMPS, TOO!
Well, since PTX's Evergreen just got nominated for an Emmy, you may want to check that out. There is also a related behind the scenes video.
Also watch Kevin Olusola doing his one man band act on Marian Hill's "Down" and Scott and Mitch as Superfruit with Kirstie doing the "Frozen Medley" which is totally hilarious
Great reaction, Jen! You're noticing so many important details, thanks :)
@18:08 ❤
Hahha thank you!
Hi Jen, you are my favorite, i always enjoy your reaction review always.... more reaction videos i hope to come.. thank you. you are a blessing...
So glad I found your channel! Super interesting and educational 😁 Here for PTX reactions. Highly recommend Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Waving Through a Window!!
Thank you 😁
Not sure, but Ben Bram arranges many of their songs so he probably did this one too.
Ben Bram leads almost all of their studio sessions. The members usually record individually with Ben. I don't believe he is any longer much involved with their touring work.
@@jamesensley3906 He's not involved in touring at all. He used to do their sound, sell merch etc when they were just starting out. Nowdays he does the arranging with them (they often do the framework themselves, send to Ben for cleanup and details and go back and forth unless they have it on music sheets) and helps produce. He also arranges for looooads of other groups.
@@hernameispekka_Rebecca Thanks
I feel like, up until now, there were two ways to do this song: The original, sort of soft and pleading, by Simon and Garfunkel, and then the far more angry and passionate version by Disturbed. This is like Pentatonix has found a third way, but I'm not sure how to describe it.
Instead of just anger and rage, when Pentatonix issues the warning, they leave room for the potential to change. The difference you hear is hope.
Excellent reaction and analysis. You might try PTX Gold, a Kiiara cover. To truly appreciate Mitch’s lead, listen to original first
I second this choice of Gold. It showcases all of them in unique ways. Kevin and Avi holding down the beats, Scott and Kirstie backing Mitch who's doing unbelievable things with his voice.
WATCH the original - if you can find the studio video (rather than the music video) even better.
Not sure if it's been commented on below, but did you catch that Scott took the bass line when Matt was doing his lead? Scott can go way low! He also does it in Hallelujah for Avi. Matt is well represented in their cover of 'You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" and it's so much fun! I hope you react to is this holiday season. Really nice reaction. I love you breaking it all down for us. THANKS!
Nicely done Jennifer,i hope you can react their new song Prayers to the world in this spectacular week 🙏🙏❤️
Hope you react to Prayers for this world their latest song release
Oh and fingers crossed tomorrow's reaction is Imagine
Also, checkout their Nutcracker video … they won a Grammy for this. 🐝💕🐝
Jen just love 💕 your reactions of PTX….This song is perfection in my mind. I’m pretty sure Ben Bram does their arrangements. Can’t wait for another reaction. You know there is over 100 PTX songs to reacted to. The Lion King will blow your mind…..You are now a true Pentaholic. Judy D
It's not really that Ben does the arrangements (I guess some), they more do it as a group together with him. They are all very involved in the creation of the arrangements.
The five of them collaborate on arranging, but there is a sixth member --Ben Bram, who does a lot of their arranging and producing. He met Scott in college, and was instrumental in forming Pentanonix.
This version is my second most favorite version of this song (1. Disturbed: Live on Conan 2016; 2. this one; 3. Simon & Garfunkel :Live in NYC). I love the harmonies here and Scott blew it out of the park on this one. Loved your spot-on analysis (as always) Jen. I count on you providing me with new insight whenever I view your reaction/analysis videos and you delivered as expected. Thanks for what you do!
Thank you!!
Whenever you hear Avi and now Matt singing lead live (Hallelujah ), Scott steps into the bass line
Scott is the most versatile of the Band. He took over the bass in Hallelujah from Avi when it was his solo. And he can go almost as high as Mitch (compare „The Prayer“). So underrated!
I agree Scott is too often underrated. He adapts so much from song to song.
Jennifer! Missed the live stream but I'm here! So in this one, at 10:05, listen to Matt sing " ... songs, that voices never shared ...". He hits, I think you said it was an F# on "songs". The original song goes up two more notes on "that voices" but Matt chooses not to. Like someone chose to do with "the world" in a cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World I heard somewhere. 😁 So was it an artistic choice by Matt or did he just not feel comfortable going up those 2 more notes? Maybe close to his transition point? I can't blame him though, the man is an incredible bass! Anyway just something I've always noticed in this performance. Great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer! 😊
Good point! Hahah, yes, way too low for me…! We’ve got to remember that all voices are different and rather than do something that another singer has done, if it feels odd or isn’t showcasing your voice at its best, change it up! 😊
This is very good! So very good. Love it. However, love the Disturbed version a little more.
Scott is doing the bass line, I saw them do it live and not looping track involved, They Pride themselves on being able to do all or at least most of their songs live and have it sound just like the recordings
And how cleverly he switches to harmony to let the high voices take that last high climax..
Scott is a baritone that has a w i d e range to his voice. Pentatonix states that they do not produce music that they cannot perform live with the same sound. When Avi would take the lead, Scott would cover the base line, he also does it when Matt takes the lead.
Jennifer, after hearing Matt do his thing: "I am the sound of silence."
❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
I would really love for you to check out the live choir version of Scott’s solo song mars. His voice is unreal on that one
Avi did something similar in the No video. He would lean back and turn his head to the side when he went really low. I thought it was to get different intensity on bass line
They all help arrange their music...and Ben Bram, the sixth member of the group.
You might enjoy their Making of Evergreen video which shows you how they go about creating and recording their songs. 💕🐝💕
from an early tour "AHA" Singapore. Choral intro would love to hear your comments. Then Mitch on lead but Avi additions that are amazing and all the others as BV support. Live from a concert on a phone camera AMAZING.
And to get more of Matt, "YOU'RE A MEAN ONE MR. GRINCH" also Season appropriate "MAKING CHRISTMAS"
Better than the disturbed version by far IMO.
Great reaction , as always, with lots of useful vocal information. I don't think you mentioned it, but I'm always interested in Kirstie's 'tight' vibrato - it's such a short gap between the notes, which I think is quite unusual? Are you going to see them live in May in London? I can't wait - I've been a Pentaholic since their 'Sing-off' days in 2011 but haven't ever made it to any of their UK concerts before. From the live stuff I've seen on RUclips, though, it should be fantastic!
Thanks Michelle32855, the group never stop to improve but as you're pointed out, nobody seems to notice Scott' base line , which not only add to the group but give him a new stance
Great reactions. You are the best. So much more ptx ,ateerial needs your analysis. Prayers for the world is one run to you another and mad world too. Imagine a high school, choir with Scott Mitch and Kirstie in it… arlington texas had these three. The arrangements are a secret sauce of this group, and Ben bram was the one telling Scott the arlington trio, neeeded a bass and beat boxer to compete and the rest is history, Ben was an arranger for the show they won. I believe he just married Kirstie too. So close tight family group.
