Simon and Garfunkel Most Definitely. If it wasn't for them there'd never be Pentatonix, like there's never be a " I Can't Live If Living is Without You " Redone nt Mariah. It takes a Solid True Sing to make people do cover songs and this is along with Nine inch nails ( Hurt ) covered by the one And Only Johnny Cash.
P.s I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. Nobody can compare .....they can do Extremely nice but original is original. But these 5 are the next generation of bringing back what is Truly worthy ! 🤙🌹❣️🙏🎼🎶🕯️😷🤠 Yeeeehawwww ✌️ Go Pentatonix !!

Avi actually helped find Matt - he fits the group perfectly. Just a small detail also, when Matt (or Avi) take the lead, Scott (tall, blonde, R&B) takes over the bassline.

Avi did not!!! Matt auditioned without knowing who he was auditioning for. He was chosen out of 50 basses....he came prepared to his call back with knowing all of the PTX songs they had ever performed!!!

Yep - Scott (the tall, blonde guy who sings the first solo) has a huge vocal range. So he pretty much covers everything from bass to baritone to tenor.
Since the beginning of PTX he has sung the bass line when their bass singer has the lead solo.
You hear it in this one too - when Matt (the 3rd soloist, and the usual bass singer of PTX) sings the lead, it's Scott singing bass.
Other great examples include Hallelujah, Standing By, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch to name a few.

Matt has lead for the entire song on "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch." He also has a small solo on "When The Party's Over" but his bass line on this track is what stands out. It is so freakin amazing. I'd love to see your reaction to both of these songs. There's other songs he has a solo but these 2 really stand out for me. Personally I prefer Matt. I love the tone of his voice. His smile is infectious. And he has a ton of charm and charisma. Plus I think the band has never sounded better. Great reaction guys. Hope to see more PTX soon. ❤️

I think the best PTX video showing off Matt's talents, both vocally and theatrically, is You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch. PTX does such a fun take on it and Matt carries the lead the entire song.
Also, if you love acapella, you should check out Home Free. While they have a more country flavor, they cover music of many genres. Their bass, Tim Foust who has a 5 octave range, has a reputation for blowing speakers in their live concerts. They all have amazing voices and their beatboxer can do a harmonica you will swear is real.
Kevin Olusolio, the beatboxes, is a tenor too.
Yes he is and has a beautiful voice also. They each fill such important roles. What they are able to create is beyond amazing.

Scott's *technically* a baritone, but his range is so big he can drop into bass tones as well as tenor ones. Scott's baritone, Mitch is countertenor (also called "contra-tenor"), Kirstie is a soprano and Matt's a bass, as you know, but he also has a big range so that he can also sing up to lower tenor tones. Avi also has a massive range.
Yeah, Kevin has to use a stomp pad on stage because otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear his feet stamping because putting a microphone down there just wouldn't work right.

September 12th 1965 was the original release date. Simon and Garfunkel would be giving a standing ovation. I was 7 when it became my favorite song. Maybe the message gets through with this iconic group’s remake.

one thing i love about pentatonix is that they never do anything in the studio that they can't originally produce with their mouths. that's why their live songs sound almost exactly like the studio version

Just so you know I stopped following them when Avi left until I found out about Matt Sallee. One of my best friends works with his aunt and she said I need to listen again and I'm so glad I did. He is phenomenal and blends with the group so well. He also has such a great lead voice when the song calls for it. I'm so glad I came back to Pentatonix. I too love a Capella music.

The first singer Scott Hoying is a baritone/ bass. The second singer Mitch Grassi is a Counter Tenor he can go very high. Third is Matt the bass. Fourth is Kirstie Mezzo Soprano. Fifth is Kevin beat boxer mid to high tenor. Kevin also plays the Cello

I believe this is at the Hollywood Bowl, home of the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, and if you want to play there you are basically required to use the orchestra in one way or another. It's part of the venue's contract. At least that is my understanding of things. They were also forced to use instruments the last time they played a full concert there back in 2017.
