I was so glad to see Scott finally let his throttle out at the end of this song. Showing everyone that he could walk into any rock band in the world and just tell everyone else to go home
Yes!!! I absolutely adore every member of PTX. But, I often have a favorite within any given song (not always, though, because they all slay all the time 😂). That said, Matt is my favorite in this song. His tone is absolutely sublime. The vibrato on his vowels in his solo...killer.
Absolutely ! He has such a great voice. They are all so damned good it's impossible to say one is better. They each have thier own awesomeness ! As a group, I'm at a lost for words of praise.
I honestly laughed at your initial disclaimer. Not offended at all...makes sense that you'd be sick of the song. Even as a longtime Simon & Garfunkel fan, I kinda got burned out after it became a meme and after the Disturbed version (much as I love what they did with it). But I've also watched a ton of reactions to this PTX cover, and it never fails. LOVED your response when Matt ("new" bass, far left, white jacket) came in. Thanks for the great reaction!
This! I’ve honestly never cared for this song until very recently. I’ve always found Simon & Garfunkel to just be plain irritating. I don’t know why. 🤷♀️ I just do. Disturbed made me realize the beauty in this song, and Pentatonix just took it to a whole new level. This is an astounding piece of art. I feel like not enough people TRULY appreciate Matt in this. I think at least some small part of that is because some people are STILL resistant to like him, just because he replaced Avi, and they loved Avi. Matt and Avi are different, and both are absolutely brilliant in their own ways. Matt SLAYED his solo here! It’s my favorite solo of the song. Every member of this group is absolutely brilliant, and they all get their turns to shine as individuals between the various songs that they perform. But this is Matt in his element. It’s so buttery smooth, rich, pure, and powerful! It’s perfection caught on tape. 🤯
@@jdkilpatrick2000 so Avi was ridiculously talented and I loved him but Matt is an amazing addition to this group and I get goosebumps every time he sings. He harmonizes beautifully and his solos are to die for.
PENTATONIX CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT is a terrific Lion King cover they do. Fantastic harmonies, and I'm not even going to talk about Mitch. Only hearing is believing.
The Simon & Garfunkel original: a gentle warning of things to come; The Disturbed version: angry response that the warning was ignored; The PTX version: hopeful optimism that the warning will still be heard.
I'm old enough to have been around when Simon & Garfunkel released this and fell in love with it on the spot. Since then, I'd never heard a cover that tripped my trigger. Disturbed's version demonstrated their talent, and they have a lot, but I didn't think it matched the original feel of the song.; it feels too angry to me. I had no worry though when I saw PTX was going to cover it...and they did do it justice! Probably seen it 200 times and when Scott gets into that final verse I still get goosebumps. Great reaction; glad they've refreshed it for you :)
My thoughts exactly! There is nothing like the original electric version from Simon and Garfunkel but Pentatonix honors it extremely well! I really dislike the Disturbed version.
Personally, I feel that the original is a gentle reminder to listen "to the sound of silence", Disturbed's version is anger that still no one is listening, and Pentatonix's version is a lament that no one listened.
Great reaction! As a (retired) music theater myself, I fully understand getting burned out on a song, even if it's a good one. I'm glad this rendition reinvigorated you. Getting nerdy myself, I find it just such an ingenious arrangement in how it delivers effects and surprises. Starting with SCOTT, their baritone, showing his buzzy low E and F# at the start. And then MATT, the group's bass since late 2017, singing it an octave higher than Scott had, showing a well-developed baritone range. (And the slick way the arrangement let others take over the very top A in the tune so he could stay on F# on the first harmony part, before descending back to bass.) And then a key change so KIRSTIN could own it in B minor, and then Scott show us the high end of his range. KEVIN holding down the beat (and singing, in the little choral transitions). (OK, the all-caps names were a friendly hint that it's getting to be time to master their names. You can do it! I love your analytical approach.)
@@TempleMusicAcademy Oh, I've been a subscriber since you started PTX. I always enjoy what you have to say. And you've mastered Mitch's name, so I have faith in you. We all have to start somewhere. :)

And Kevin & Matt maintain a crazy beat. Here's a music teacher question: what the heck is the kind of rhythm used in Come Along? It's driving me crazy. It almost feels like it's East Indian, but I have to say I'm mostly illiterate, musically speaking.
And if you listen to the original by Cosmo Sheldrake, you'll hear how huge the difference in the arrangement is between the 2 versions. Really, the only similarity between the 2 is the lyrics. The melody, tempo, all of it.
We call that a wall of sound like at the end of hallelujah and imagine. For a fun choral like song, even they said it brings them back to their choir days, you could try the song "Come Along". Mitch said in concert once that he doesn't even know what it means but it's fun to sing.

I thought you might change your mind once you’ve heard Pentatonix do this. I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel‘s electric version. It is one of my all-time favorites. When I heard Disturb’s version it upset me greatly. I did not like the anger in it. As a Pentatonix fan from the beginning, I am super glad that they did this song the way they did. It makes me cry every time. They honor Simon and Garfunkel‘s song very well.
You need to review their Daft Punk medley. Its a very different genre from what you've reviewed so far, and it continues to blow me away. The new guy is Matt, who replaced Avi as the group's bass about 3 years ago. I'm glad you got to hear him. Love your work, and thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this one. (I'll also say do Mary did you know because you actually get to hear Kevin, the beatboxer, sing)
I've been watching Pentatonix since the very beginning when they were on the Sing Off - and still, all these years later (which is over a decade) it still amazes me how 5 people manage to make themselves sound like an entire choir of people.
Watching someone with genuine technical expertise experience their brilliance is music nerd crack 😉 as a former a capella quartet member, seeing them live was an out of body experience. They have genuinely redefined the genre.
I kinda feel that way about the song, HALLELUJAH. I love it but EVERYONE does it, but Pentatonix has one of the best covers ever!keep rockin it out! 🤘🏻❤️
You could not possibly have done a better reaction to this song. It was like watching a child discover the joy of a new experience. Love it when obviously true and real feelings come across. Makes me feel like I know that how I react to this song is validated by an expert in the field. Thank you! And thank PTX!
So glad you did that song. I have always loved it but PTX, WOW!!!! Please react to more of their songs. You will not be disappointed. Aha Live Singapore mostly features Mitch but it will blow you away. Mary Did You Know, terrific. You mentioned a Lion King vibe. The also cover Can You Feel the Love Tonight. Wonderful job. Love your reaction to this song. It is one of my very favorite ones they cover! ENJOY!!!!!!! Scott (lead), Mitch (middle), Kirstie, Kevin (beatboxer) and Matt (bass).
I would suggest doing some of Pentatonix's originals. Love Again is a really nice EDM style song. I also always recommend one of their older songs that doesn't get a lot of coverage. Their cover of Can't hold us (Macklemore and Ryan Lewis).
my fav is matt 4:47 -4:50 how he switched to low voice :P ! Enjoy watching ur video because ur sincere expression and explanations ! 🤗 thanks again ps im a girl :P
"Nobody's ever made me feel like this!" Yep- every Ptx song gives me that feeling! If you are ever sick of any other song & you see that Ptx covered it- just watch their version & you WILL like it by them!!! Have you done their version of "Mad World" yet? Yeah, you need to hear that one!!! It's one of their fairly new ones. I remember when the original by Tears for Fears came out & I loved it, then the same with Gary Jules. Then Ptx just blew me away with their arrangement!!
PTX never disappoint. They know how to play with arrangements to transmit a proper mood to each song... really outstanding. Some more “raw” (less studio supported) covers are “No” (Meghan Traynor cover) and “Gold” (Kiiara cover). You’ll get gladly surprised. See you in the next one
I heart u! Lol. I loved your opening disclaimer......I giggled....I felt the same. But I have learned to trust that even songs I may be burnt out on, or ones that I'm familiar with & just don't even necessarily care for....PTX breathes new life into them. That's the only way I can put it. They pay amazing respectful homage to the originals, but are able to interject their one of a kind energy & wall of sound, while always surprising us & always evolving. They give songs that need to be heard by a new generation the updated mood it needs to catch their attention & other cases sometimes a song is rediscovered not only for the sound but the message too (Imagine is my fave❤) I loved your reaction getting lost with Mitch & then being amazed by Matt too. I feel like sometimes Pentaholics miss Avi so much it's hard to get past that & give credit where it's due. But Matt I feel like has one of the most beautiful voices!! So rich & vast! Can't wait too see some more reactions!
I love your reactions!!! and I love that their cover has allowed you to find the joy of the song again!!! looking forward to the next PTX Reaction. Pick any song, doesn't matter lol!
Great reaction 👍 if you want more along the lines of what you've seen, then their cover of "Imagine" is a good next one. Or if you want to see something completely different that shows their versatility then "Daft Punk" (their first Grammy) is a great choice! Thanks!
Really appreciate your honest and insightful reactions. Please do the Todrick Hall and Pentatonix Wizard of Ahhs. It’s fantastic. Also for more Kirstie, check out La La Latch or Shallow (also with Kevin doing beatboxing AND playing cello at the same time!). So much more to experience and I’ll be watching!
Your smiling has made me smile, so thank you for another great reaction. I would really like to see you react to The Sing Off - where Pentatonix got their start, grew, to what they are now, and see them live with good sound
Awesome! This is probably the best Matt-era song of PTX that I've heard. I'd love to see you check out "Imagine" or my personal favorite PTX song, Light In The Hallway.
I’m glad to have found you. It’s wonderful to vicariously re-live the discovery of this astonishing group song by song. I rarely find anyone else who gets as excited about them as I do. Funny story: My partner routinely tells me of how sick and tired he is of a particular song since EVERYBODY performs it..., but it isn’t this one. It’s “Hallelujah” Be sure to watch their “Daft Punk” medley. It’s was one of their earliest hits after winning the contest show. They recorded it in one of their kitchens. Then they won a Grammy for it. My first time hearing PTX was “Mary, Did You Know?” The harmonies are sublime and I was immediately hooked for life. Then I discovered “Say Something.” One of the most achingly beautiful things I’ve ever heard.
Nothing says it better than your facial expressions. I love listening to your explanations. I have no music talent, but understand more about music just from listening to you. Thank you.
I would love seeing your take on their Daft Punk Medley and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (these earned them their first 2 Grammy awards). Kirstie is the awesome soprano. She, Mitch, and Scott (blonde baritone, sometimes bass) grew up together. Kevin (beat boxer, cellist, tenor) and their original bass, Avi - who left on good terms and helped find his replacement shown here, Matt - joined and formed Pentatonix so they could meet the required number of members needed for the a cappella competition, the Sing Off (season 3). They won but were dropped by the label soon after. So they began making their own videos, and eventually, word spread of how talented and diverse their music is.
Ever since I saw your first reaction to PTX, I’ve been awaiting anxiously for more reactions from them. I love seeing your excitement and also the breakdowns of what they are doing. I share the passion for the whole ensemble piece, and how each member supports the others to make such quality sound. Please do more Pentatonix! I think you would love their cover Imagine- it always brings me to tears, because it’s so emotional. And as a fellow Mitch lover, you have to react to their cover of Gold, and Aha- the star vista Singapore version. It’s fan recorded, but Mitch is PHENOMENAL, and Avi also. Can’t wait to hear more!
I was around for the original Simon and Garfunkel arrangement, and know that song inside and out. Matt, new to the group, did something to his portion of the arrangement and made it amazing and personal. The abruptness when going from one lyric line to the next, then the emphasis he put on the other lyric.. Brilliant! Kirsten has always been the thread that weaves through the others harmonies with effortless ease, and yet she can stand firm when the time comes for her to shine. Scott is like a deep butter flavored hug… One never knows where his voice is going to be, but it’s delicious, buttery and warm. Mitch… he’s a dichotomy of ever changing looks, with the familiar warmth of his voice. Magic will always emerge. Kevin… he is the HEART of the group, keeping the beat, and and the groove that turns the singers’ harmonies into smooth, delicious butter. Apparently I’m hungry…. for more Pentatonix!
I absolutely love Pentatonix but watching your reaction has just taken me to a new place. I have no music ability whatsoever but I can pick up on different harmonies and keys. Love watching your reaction and your thoughts because I feel and hear them too. Thank you!
I just found your channel yesterday. As a longtime PTX fan, I really enjoyed and appreciated your PTX reaction videos. I will continue to be on the lookout for more reactions from their songs! I do have 3 suggestions for you (I know, I know- everyone does)- * Come Along * When the Party’s Over * Dreams Thank you for providing this content for us. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
gosh please do more ptx reactions, i just love how much you enjoy them! have you checked out any of their evolution videos yet, they're all done in one take and are amazing
Introductions appear to be in order... left to right -- Matt Sallee, bass; Kirstin (Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, mezzo-soprano who can range down to second alto; Scott Hoying, baritone / tenor / fill in bass when main bass sings lead; Mitch Grassi, counter-tenor, vocal and sartorial chameleon; and the beatboxer / sometimes tenor harmony is Kevin "KO" Olusola. Scott, Mitch and Kirstie grew up together in Arlington Texas singing in choirs, musical theater, and anywhere else they could. Scott brought the group together (with Avi Kaplan singing bass) to compete on season three of the Sing Off. The best videos I've seen are from MrDuckBear. He includes the judges comments and outros in his segments. They are worth watching on your own to see their growth as a group.
Please react to Run to you (PTX original) New rules & Are you that somebody Mad world Daft Punk (really showcases their mashup abilities and got PTX their first Grammy)
I'm only a handful of reactions deep on your channel, but am quickly enjoying your honest, genuine, and heartfelt breakdowns. They're made all the better by your knowledge and passion for music. Looking forward to more PTX and others. I'll echo many other comments here encouraging you to check out Can You Feel The Love Tonight and Daft Punk. Very different; both so very much worth your time. Keep keepin' on DJ!
Watching you listen and watch was a treasure. I could really feel your experience and the feelings you had, and losing yourself in it and then the joy of the music, its magic. Its how I always about amazing music.
I am a new subscriber and I loved watching your reaction to this song. Like you, I knew the original version, and I still love the Disturbed version. But a lot of people were trying to re-do this song and failed miserably. I have been a Pentatonix fan since they won The Sing-Off and I am a die-hard Pentaholic to this day. If you want a really good reaction, try watching all of their performances from The Sing-Off, so you can actually see how much they have grown and progressed since then. I have every single CD they have ever made, and will continue to buy every single album that they make. To me, this is the best acapella group I've ever heard in my life. There are others that are good, but none of them actually "make you feel things" like Pentatonix does. The names of the members of Pentatonix are Scott (who was in the center), Mitch (of course you know), Kevin (is your beatboxer), Kirsty (is the beautiful young lady with the vibrato voice), and Matt (is the new bass of the group). Now if you watch closely, while Matt is singing his solo part, Scott is the one actually doing the bass part. He does that in their version of The Grinch too. Looking forward to watching more videos from you, have a wonderful day. Love from NC. 💜💜🎶🎶💜💜
Dude, love your enthusiasm and appreciation of music. You can really tell you are doing something you love and sharing your experience online with others and it's a diary of sorts for yourself in the future. Really hope I have the same enthusiasm for flying after making it a career and never get jaded; or atleast find something that will prevent me from ever getting jaded of it. Keep it up, brother; you are an inspiration to those who never even got into the music field of play and yet we can still relate.
Absolutely love your honesty, your music IQ, and your intelligence in conveying your reactions. So much respect. There’s a vocal coach whose name I won’t mention, who kept stopping the roll of Janis Joplin’s Ball and Chain at Monterey Pop and spoke about the “noises’ she made. No words. Would love to hear your thoughts on PTX’s original work of Run to You, or basically anything you choose. Such a fan.
Thank you for choosing to spend your career as a music teacher. The music teachers I had in elementary and high school were some of the most influential people in my life. Especially my 4th grade music teacher who never laughed, not even once, when I chose the string bass as my instrument. She even got another string bass on loan from the high school so I could stop carrying the bass back and forth from home which required two friends every day to help me. You sir are a hero.

This is the best cover of this song for me! Thanks for posting and for the interesting commentary. This is why I look forward to your posts.
You could not possibly have done a better reaction to this song. It was like watching a child discover the joy of a new experience. Love it when obviously true and real feelings come across. Makes me feel like I know that how I react to this song is validated by an expert in the field. Thank you! And thank PTX!
I love the contrast at the end where they move from harmony to unison. Great ending!
Love the reactions and comments... Keep up the PTX express....

Dude! Great reaction. Thanks!
I would suggest doing some of Pentatonix's originals. Love Again is a really nice EDM style song. I also always recommend one of their older songs that doesn't get a lot of coverage. Their cover of Can't hold us (Macklemore and Ryan Lewis).
Sing is a super fun one. My kiddo think it is the BEST.
Yes! Nobody gives Love Again it's justice
my fav is matt 4:47 -4:50 how he switched to low voice :P ! Enjoy watching ur video because ur sincere expression and explanations ! 🤗 thanks again ps im a girl :P
Goosebumps… Bravo Bravo !!
i love how thy perform this song but when Kirstin gets her solo is when i get the goosebumps every time
"Nobody's ever made me feel like this!" Yep- every Ptx song gives me that feeling!
Try their three newest, covers of Mad World and When the Party's Over, then their original Happy Now.
Damn even after all these times watching it I have only now realized I have the exact same jacket Matt is wearing. LIT
they are dropping new video on wednesday for their original song "Be my eyes" , and on friday new album of their original songs
ruclips.net/video/S5HabtsauqE/видео.html
The dreamy look and the little head shake, that's exactly how they make me feel
I heart u!
Thanks!

Haha was just watching it 👍👍
Really appreciate your honest and insightful reactions.
The biggest news is they are dropping their second original song in 5 years on the 14th at 3pm est/12pm pt
Imagine cover. Powerful message, powerful delivery of the message
Loved this review!!! You should really react to PTX’s “Come along”. Its bound to put you in a good mood :)
Your smiling has made me smile, so thank you for another great reaction. I would really like to see you react to The Sing Off - where Pentatonix got their start, grew, to what they are now, and see them live with good sound
You have got to see their video of “Imagine”. It’s gorgeous.
Awesome! This is probably the best Matt-era song of PTX that I've heard. I'd love to see you check out "Imagine" or my personal favorite PTX song, Light In The Hallway.
Actually. It’s a tie with the duet he did with Mitch on “Mad World”!
Are we forgetting about you're a mean one Mr. Grinch?
They are amazing, especially amazing Grace and hallelujah. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for the great reaction! We knew you’d love it.
Not sure they have a video of it, but they cover Boogie Woggie Bugle Boy...impressive. I saw them perform it live.
I must say that I love the absolute joy on your face as you reviewed the song!
Your reaction has brought a smile to my face. ...very insightful.
It’s “Hallelujah”
Be sure to watch their “Daft Punk” medley.

I think you must be a fantastic teacher and many pupils favourite teacher. One of those teachers that you remembers even when you getting old.
Nothing says it better than your facial expressions. I love listening to your explanations. I have no music talent, but understand more about music just from listening to you. Thank you.
Thank you, Joan! That’s been my goal for this channel and just sharing the passion with all of you ❤️
I enjoy your PTX reactions. More please. Thanks.

This song is epic, complex, sweeping, and inspiring. Great reaction.
You are a TRIP dude! I love you watching them... I had to rewind it a few times to see YOUR reaction over and over! LOL
This is a song you never get sick of
I love this group and love signing their songs
You saying it reminds of lion king you should check out the cover of can you feel the love tonight that ptx covers..
ruclips.net/video/lFmXuRCZvkA/видео.html
I do have 3 suggestions for you (I know, I know- everyone does)-
* Come Along
* When the Party’s Over
* Dreams
Thank you for providing this content for us. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
This is my first time seeing your reviews and I couldn't stop watching you reacting it seemed so genuine.
gosh please do more ptx reactions, i just love how much you enjoy them! have you checked out any of their evolution videos yet, they're all done in one take and are amazing
Actually PTX was on and won season three of The Sing Off, not season four. Otherwise awesome comment.
@@vidsorama2 Thanks. Fixed after i found the edit button :).
Please react to
Run to you (PTX original)
New rules & Are you that somebody
Mad world
Daft Punk (really showcases their mashup abilities and got PTX their first Grammy)

Keep keepin' on DJ!
ruclips.net/video/pIQLXSUAU1g/видео.html
Watching you listen and watch was a treasure. I could really feel your experience and the feelings you had, and losing yourself in it and then the joy of the music, its magic. Its how I always about amazing music.
Love this reaction, and love your smile too :D
Matt is amazing. He brings such joy to the group!
«Somebody if you know her please high-five her that was sick» IM WHEEZING
Dude, love your enthusiasm and appreciation of music. You can really tell you are doing something you love and sharing your experience online with others and it's a diary of sorts for yourself in the future. Really hope I have the same enthusiasm for flying after making it a career and never get jaded; or atleast find something that will prevent me from ever getting jaded of it. Keep it up, brother; you are an inspiration to those who never even got into the music field of play and yet we can still relate.
thank you for showing us a whole other way to love Pentatonix
Go check Faouzia she is so talented guys.
*THIS*!!!! Is why I love actual pros reacting to PTX vids! Cos you pick up on stuff like the vowel movements etc... I love these reactions
I get chills when I hear this version (also with the Disturbed version). So powerful.
Such a fan.
I love this song Never get tired of good talent .
Fabulous! Every song they do is taken to a whole new level.
I just love the smile on your face when you listen! All the PTX fans have that reaction
I love Pentatonix but your comments makes it easier for me to understand why they sound so good. Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words!
