In addition to their two "originals" albums ("Pentatonix" and the recently released "The Lucky Ones") most of their other albums (except "Classics" and "Top Pop" and a couple of the Christmas albums) always included a few originals along with the covers. ("The Baddest Girl", "Love Again", "Natural Disaster", "Run to You", "See Through", "Standing By" are great examples from their earliest albums, PTX Vol I, PTX Vol II, and PTX Vol III)

Dunno about the enhanced, technically Eqing the breath out os enhancing even tho you don't need post to do that... very usefull for bass or beatboxer, especially if bases aren't true bases but they can just extend to it (with that I mean that thwy don't have resonance @ the lowest nodes), Geoff talked about this in a Q&A
And on mitch I think there is a little reverb or double for about a second, that said... are this considrd drastoc enhancements? nah, wouldn't say so, this are effects you can use in live as well without a lot of problems
Am I sure and do I have proofs they use some minor effects? no
How likely is it that they use some minor effects like reverb, EQ etc? quite likely

Love the look on your face when Mitch had the lead. That was a classic Mitch slap. Each member of the group is an amazing talent. Mitch, Scott (first verse) and Kirsten were highschool friends. What is amazing is the vocal range of each of them. Scott is nominally the baritone, but can sing bottom tenor at the upper range as well as bass when needed. Avi is nominally the bass, and is almost a basso profundo but with the upper range of a baritone. Kirsten is a coloratura soprano but has the range to sing alto. Mitch is a contratenor who can sing baritone. Kevin is the beat boxer and is a tenor. He can sing baritone as well. What is most incredible is how this was arranged. Each verse as well as each time the chorus was sung was a different arrangement. 4 arrangements for the verses and 6 for the chorus, and easy as beautiful as the others. A technical triumph that kept the soul of the music front and centre.

Avi Kaplan (2nd singer, beard and beanie) is a classically trained basso profundo and can go low enough with enough power to blow out speakers. There are RUclips videos on that. He was the groups original bass 2011-2017 and participated in selecting his replacement Matt Sallee. Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole. It is long and deep with 10 years of covers and original music.

    • @donny1960
      @donny1960 3 года назад +7

@@Orodroth The jury is split on that. Every item I have seen about the actual studio track that was used for the video, says Avi is double tracked, OR Scott has taken over the Bass. The fact that there is no definitive answer is frustrating. Although more than one "Vocal Coach" has said that the "tone" of the Bass is Scott's in the video. And that the "Christmas Special" video, with Scott visibly taking over the Bass section, sounds the same as the "official" video. So believe what you will. I personally do hear a "difference" in the Bass during the Avi solo in the "Desert" video.

Shortly before he passed, Leonard Cohen heard Pentatonix cover of his song. He said it was the best cover he had ever heard. The gentleman who started the song off is Scott and he's a baritone the gentleman in the beanie is avo and he is a basso
profundo and has been Known to blow speakers out he can sing so deep When he is Singing Scott takes over the Bass. Then there's Kirsty who's a mezzo soprano and the gentleman with the hat is Mitch. Mitch is a countertenor and can sing even higher than that. There is a video on RUclips Titled Mitch grassi range You get to hear him singing All of the different notes and octaves And I really don't know what any of that means but You do get to here Him at every point in his range. Pentatonix does mostly do covers. In February they released an album entitled the lucky ones and it is all original music. Then they just put out a 90s dance melody. Pentatonix never does a song that they cannot reproduce Live what they did For the official video. There is a live version of hallelujah I think the video is titled a Pentatonix holiday special. Kevin is the beat boxer and he Is a world class cello player.
. He has performed at Carnegie hall. In some videos he is playing the cello while beatboxing. He calls this cello boxIng. He plays the saxophone and the keyboard. He speaks fluent mandarin and graduated premed from Yale. Avi is a classically trained Opera singer. Kevin did not know he could sing when he joined Pentatonix but avi taught him how to sing. He doesn't sing often And he is a tenor. Since you enjoyed hallelujah which is Religious Song check out Amazing grace. In 2017 he leaves Pentatonix for personal reasons and on good terms with Pentatonix and helps to find his replacement matt. he now has a solo career Check out change on the rise. Every word you hear Every sound you hear every note you hear was all done by avi. Keep doing Pentatonix reactions and the Pentaholics will flock to you. We are a Fiercely Loyal and protective group of fans. Mitch and Scott have a side project titled super fruit And Kevin has his own channel called KO. Check out his cover of Down by Marion hill. I didn't see anyone else post this, so I guess I will. Kevin (the Beatboxer) is actually creating the sounds with his mouth except the jacket thumping. It is just a bit more produced for the official MVs and albums. Maybe take a look at their live versions to see them actually perform all the parts. Like someone else said, they don't make anything they can't recreate live. Kevin also plays cello in some of their videos. And Scott plays piano. But those instances are few and far between.
Maybe check out "Say Something" cover or "Perfect" cover to see it in action.

I have watched Pentatonix since they appeared on 'Sing Off', which they won. The group has grown and improved over the years. Avi the bass, left amicably to pursue his own career. He helped them find Matt Salle, his replacement. Scott, the first singer, is listed as baritone but has an enormous range that he uses to cover bass when needed. Mitch, the counter tenor, has a huge range also. Kristin, the mezzo soprano, and Mitch also cover each others parts when needed. Kevin the beat boxer, also sings and has a beautiful tenor voice that you'll see more in later videos. The more you watch, the more you'll get hooked! Their first grammy was in 2015 for 'Daft Punk', which was filmed in a closet for $400. The 2nd was in 2016 for 'Sugar Plum Fairy'. The 3rd was in 2017 for 'Jolene' with Dolly Parton. Their concerts are always sold out and they are prolific in releasing new music. From the beginning, Pentatonix hasn't received the respect they deserve. The sad thing is, the industry doesn't know what to do with them and therefore their music doesn't get nominated for grammys as it should. I'm sure this is disheartening for them.

    A quickstart guide to PTX:
Scott Hoying: the blonde dude. He's a baritone, often sings lead but can sing bass when Avi or Matt are singing lead.
Mitch Grassi: He's the guy with the hat. He's a countertenor. He can go insanely high.
Kirstin Maldonado: she's the only woman in the group. She's a mezzo soprano. Her, Scott, and Mitch all went to the same high school and sang together there.
Kevin Osula: he's the beatboxer of the group, but he is also an amazing singer, can play the cello, graduated from Juliard, and speaks 4 languages fluently. He's pretty awesome.
Avi Kaplan: he's the guy with the beard, and has a beautiful basso profundo voice. He left the group in 2017 because he couldn't keep up with the ptx schedule.
Matt Salee: He replaced Avi as bass in 2017. He's not in this video, but if you watch some of their newer ones he's in those.
Ben Bram: he doesn't sing or appear in their videos, but a lot of people call him the hidden sixth member. He's their manager, producer, AV guy, and even arranges some of their music. He also went to high school with Mitch, Scott, and Kirstin.
    Some fun facts:
They got their big break on the TV show "the sing off". They actually only met avi for the first time a few days before their performance. After winning, the record label they won a contract with in the sing off decided to drop them. They then recorded their daft punk medley in Avi's closet and edited it in the kitchen. The whole music video had a budget of $400 USD. It proceeded to win them a Grammy. It only went up from there. They got two more Grammys and now get millions of views on every song they upload.
They pride themselves on only recording thind they can also do live, so the only artificial editing they do is adding effects like echo or whatever.
Occasionally Kevin will play his cello in a song, or they might do a collaboration with another musician, but other than that it's 100% no instruments.
Welcome to the ptx rabbit hole! You ain't leaving anytime soon.
    Some song suggestions:
    Their cover of Imagine
    Bohemian rhapsody
    Daft punk medley
    Any of their Christmas music
    Sound of silence
Dance of the sugar plum fairy (also won them a Grammy, despite having no lyrics)
If you want other great acapella groups after listening to all of PTX's stuff, I recommend Voiceplay or Home Free. Both are awesome. Both have basses with fabulously long hair like Avi.

Once I realized there are a bunch of RUclipsrs reacting to Hallelujah, I’ve been binge watching them just to watch them being Mitch slapped. I had the same reaction the first time I heard them. And Avi’s bass is amazing too, even if I didn’t have to pry my chin off the floor when I heard him the first time. The fact that the original video of this has 718 million views as of September 16, 2023, should be a hint that they really are spectacular!
If you are ever able to see PTX live, I highly recommend you do so. They’re actually BETTER live! I saw them perform in Phoenix, Arizona, USA last Saturday night, and it was absolutely incredible. 😊😊😊

I cried the first time I heard Hallelujah. Then I watched it again 5 more times to enjoy it. Now I have it on my playlist with some others.
I was Mitch-slapped repeatedly once I discovered their other songs. They are incrediblè.
Now I watch youtubers react to enjoy seeing their face.

I like their covers better than the original versions, their original songs are beautiful and meaningful - Avi (Mr Beard) is haunting, Mitch (the hat) is just incredible, Kevin, the beatboxer is insanely talented, Kirsty is wonderful and Scott (the first blonde guy) is also amazing in his range and ability - I have subbed in hope that you react to more PTX (Pentatonix). Scott sings the bass line when Avi is singing lead. All of their ranges are insane.
There are no effects, other than production reverbs. Everything you here is their voices, unless Kevin plays the cello.

Do you know how many of us old time Pentaholics watch new reactors to this just to see their faces go into "Does not compute" when Mitch comes in? (Scrawny dude with the hat) LOL We adore Mitch, that voice can do things humans never thought.

Welcome to the world of Pentatonix, or PTX for short. Get ready for a quick boost to your channel from their rabid fans who call ourselves “Pentaholics”. Here is my quick intro to the group for new fans.
PTX is a five member “a Capella” (without instruments) vocal band formed in 2011 for the NBC television reality competition show “The Sing Off”. The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of:
SCOTT HOYING, male, 6’3”, usually blond, sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead.
MITCH GRASSI, male, 5’10”, normally black hair but has changed body mass, wardrobe and hair style so much in videos he’s often mistaken for different people. Mitch has an amazingly high range (contra tenor) that some mistake for a second female voice.
KIRSTIN MALDONADO, female, 5’4”, natural hair color is black but changes it often in videos. Kirsti (rhymes with “thirsty”) sings mezzo soprano and, for a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”.
Added to “the trio” for the show were:
AVI KAPLAN, male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind. Avi is a classically trained “basso profundo”. He provides the vocal bass line as well as added vocal percussion but often uses his upper registry to sing vocal leads in a number of arrangements. Avi is the ONLY member of the band that has change. He left on good terms in 2017 for reasons related to conflicting demands of the band’s touring schedule and his personal/family commitments. He assisted the group in finding his replacement Matt Sallee.
KEVIN OLUSOLA male, 6’1”, black, changing hair style, is known as “KO” and was asked to join PTX to provide vocal percussion after Scott watched a RUclips video of him “cello boxing” (beatboxing while playing his cello). KO is the classic over achiever of the group. He plays Cello, Piano, and Saxophone all at concert levels. He graduated pre-med from Yale, speaks Spanish and spent over a year in China where he became fluent in Chinese. He sings Tenor but vocals were not his strong suite when he started so he worked with other band members and a vocal coach until while on tour he would perform the featured vocals in "if I ever fall in love", (originally performed by guest artist Jason Derulo for the album and video). He also writes and produces music both individually and for the group. So, KO is more than “just the beatboxer”.
The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is:
MATT SALLEE, male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair. Matt replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 to provide vocals, vocal bass and percussion. Matt can be heard using his exceptional upper vocal range to provide a rich tenor/baritone lead often ending with a slide down to a deep bass punch.
Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches!
1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. The only exception is they may deliberately use Auto-Tune when they cover songs where it was used in the original and is key to the sound of that song. An example is "90's Dance Medley" when they use it in Cher’s, “Believe”.
2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen.
    Enjoy the ride.

That deep voice is our beloved Avi (beard and beanie), who's a classically trained basso profundo. We miss him so much in the Pentatonix line-up. Avi left in 2017 due to the rigors of the group's schedule, and his mom was sick while they were touring, so he helped find his replacement, Matt Sallee. You will see Matt in any videos from 2018 or later. Matt had big shoes to fill, but he's such a talented performer in his own right, and now he's totally part of the PTX family
