  • This video is of my backpacking trip in September to Isle Royale National Park in Michigan which is a remote island only fifteen miles from the north coast of Lake Superior. This travel log is a collection of about three hundred photos with several video clips mixed in. It is not a fancy movie, so if that’s your desire search on. However, if you watch on, you’ll see what the island looks and sounds like as well as hear some interesting things about the area. Although you’ll also see several photographic works of art like this cover image from the Three Mile campground, most images will be simple, handheld snapshots of the trail and my campsites. So, if you’re still interested, watch the video, and let me tell you, my tale!
BTW, I meantion in the video that I like to listen to audio books and music while hiking with one ear bud so I can listen for wildlife with the other ear. During this hike, I listened to these three books:
    1. "True North" by Jim Harrison (takes place in Michigan's Upper Peninsula)
    2. "Returning to Earth" by Jim Harrison (sequel to True North)
(Both these were recommended to me by Chris Dombrowski, author of The River You Touch, and an old friend of Jim's.)
    3. Of Wolves and Men by Barry Lopez (It was wild to be listening to this while looking at wolf tracks and then an actual wolf!)
For music, I was listening to my Spotify playlist "Camping and Road Tripin', A Visceral Life" in offline mode, of course. If you are interested, give the books and music playlist a listen.
If you want to learn more about Isle Royale, I recommend the following books that you get from www.irkpa.org/...
    1. "Isle Royale National Park: Foot Trails & Water Routes 5th Edition" by Jim DuFresne
    2. "Superior Wilderness: Isle Royale National Park" by Napier Shelton
    3. "Becoming Wilderness: Nature, History, and the Making of Isle Royale National Park" by Amalia Tholen Baldwin
    4. "Minong, The Good Place: Ojibwe and Isle Royale" by Timothy Cochrane
