- it doesn't always work on your first try so if it doesn't work try again. sometimes it will take u to a different screen asking u which system to boot, if that screen pops up turn off your computer, turn back on do the F1 thing again but instead of the enter key press and hold the tab key. If u have tried this many times without any type of success something is wrong with your motherboard and i cant help u with that. If this worked for you please leave a comment and subscribe.

I've been using my old PC(with Vista) to just play CDs and DVDs. Today it would not boot up, just got a screen that said "detecting array". I was sure the computer finally bit the dust.I started googling the problem with my main PC and got no answers. Then I finally found your video, and did the F1 trick, and it worked. Thank you so much. You know your stuff.

I know this is an old video but it just worked for me on my Windows 8 Dell. I didn't even need to get to the "hold the Enter key down." Just unplugged everything like you said, and started hitting the F1 when rebooting...and that did it! Thanks.

Anyways... It got stuck on a different screen than yours. It wanted me to use arrow keys and press enter.. which i did 1000 times snd all other keys LOL

I actually did exactly what u said..but also had to RESTART..by holding the Volume and Power down then as the screen was coming up I hit enter as FAST as I could haha! Then FINALLYYYY It said INSTALLING WINDOW'S. LMAO!!! THANK GOD!!!!
yeah, open up ur computer, and look on the mother board for something that looks like a watch battery. this is called the bios battery, remove the battery by pushing on the clamp with a screwdriver and pull it out, put it back in and ur system settings like passwords will be reset

just an update guys, i have a new computer that started getting a similar problem, it just wouldnt let me select safe mode, or normal mode (when i hit enter to chose nothing happend) and i tried this and it still seems to work so if your problem is similar but no exactly the same it still should work, its all about the pressing the key before it shows a screen saying to presss it
Hey man did the f1 thing u asked me to do n now after that it's saying this BOOTMGR is compressed Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart but keyboard isn't working its shows the light to say the keyboard is on but if I what to do
+spunkflunk I hope you already got to the bottom of it. But, usually the error pops up because the BIOS can't access the keyboard. Sometimes it is the USB port, sometimes it is a keyboard that is broken or that brand doesn't work well with that computer. The best thing is to try a different port for the keyboard, then work with the BIOS settings, and as a last resort a BIOS update from the Manufacturer. The BIOS update is usually permanent, but it may fix it, so read all about it before you apply the update. Usually it works better, but once it is applied there is usually no rollback. Some companies put in a fix to revert it back, but it is not very often. But the good thing is that usually a BIOS update fixes a lot of hair pulling issues on that computer and it usually works a lot better after that. :-)

@@OscarKirk Get a windows 10 recovery disk. This helped me with my problem. Just make sure its the right one. (32 or 64 bit, windows 10 home or pro). Good luck.
Exact opposite happens to me. Keyboard doesn't work during boot menu, but it works on windows.

Thank you soooooooo much for this! My kid had his Eagle Badge info saved to the computer and both the keyboard and mouse went out! Inexand a half hours on the phone with Microsoft and they said it was our HP Pavilion bio sets and not a Window update. That sure is funny b/c it happened right after the update!(???)

I had "didn't shut down correctly" in Windows 7. I couldn't restart without the use of the keyboard. This worked for me! I did have to hold the enter key through the entire start up.It then started normally. I thought I was screwed. Thanks

He's right but you can just hit the f12 key during the booting and session and that will take you directly to your desktop automatically
I did a hybrid version of your instructions, quickly pressing the F1 key and then when I saw the dash I pressed enter.
I didn't have to unplug everything else. But you certainty helped.
i don't know about pressing f1 but holding down enter button saved my laptop

I don't recommend pulling things out of your computer unless it's memory...
You shouldn't have to do that in this case.
Turn off your computer and unplug everything from it.
Press and hold the power button for a few seconds.
Plug only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor back into the pc.
Startup.
The keyboard should work on the inital startup period...
Immediately press the function key that prompts the bios repeatedly.
Once in the bios, make sure the usb controller is "enabled."

I had purchased a refurbished Lenovo computer which came with an HP keyboard. I hooked everything up, and got the 3 beep problem. I did some YT video searches concerning others who had the same problem with a refurbished Lenovo computer that came with an HP keyboard. I found another guy who had the same problem. In his case, he switched to a USB keyboard, and then it worked fine. My guess was that the BIOS was not updating to recognizing the HP keyboard and thus registered an error. So To increase the chances of it doing so, I removed one 4GB mem card. It was now up and going. I then reinstalled the second 4GB mem card, and it too was working fine. So my guess is that when the refurbished units were tested, they were tested using a USB keyboard, thus not using the HP keyboard.
@Montegoman66 I said in description all you have to do now is reinstall windows now that you can actually use your computer and load a windows disk. there is many videos out there on how to reinstall windows.
the loading bar didnt stop at the middle when i press f1 it continued the same problem again and again

Windows Vista 32bit. No keyboard. Startup repair runs then prompts 'fix?'. oh yes please...but no keyboard. Thanks a bunch! Trying the suggested F1 key tapping didn't work but taking out the power lead and plugging in again DID clear the keyboard error so I run the startup repair facility. Thanks guys.

As soon as you turn on the computer you should be able to tap the F8 key until you come to same menu which is for safe mode :)
If your computer has a ps2 port and perhaps the USB keyboard function isn't working, then try getting into setup and renabling the USB keyboard option so that you can use a USB keyboard if your ps2 keyboard chip has been fried, but it is a big problem if your computer only supports ps2 without enabling the USB feature in bios! And you can't get into bios to change it!
If you have great soldering skills, maybe you could find out where the keyboard logic chip, and replace it with a chip with the same number and make.
That may be what I need to do or something like that.

Try this?
Dell Dimension 9150
-Unplug the computer and disconnect all devices.
-Press and hold power button for 10 seconds to drain the capacitor to prevent electrical shock.
-Open computer case and locate the 3 pin jumper block (located next to the 4 SATA harddrive connection points on the motherboard). The jumper is blue and will be connected to two of the three pins on the motherboard.
-Remove the jumper block for a second then reconnect it back to it's original postion.
(Search jumper block)
If you're not able to acces the bios with your usb keyboard, try it with a ps/2 keyboard
Your problem has nothing to do with this video. Take it to a computer repair shop.
Have you tried up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-A-B-B-A-Select-Start? That always works for me.

See, I'm having a different problem. I'm working on someone's WinXP computer, which came with a corrupted registry. So, I fixed it by booting a ubuntu live disk and replacing the broken files with the files from System32
epair, and after getting it to boot...the mouse and keyboard aren't responding. So, I can't do anything. I just end up pressing the power button to trigger the shutdown sequence. Everything I find on google says to "do this and that" in safe mode...but I can't move the mouse or use the keyboard, regular or safe mode. So it's a chicken-and-egg dilemma; a Catch-22.
However, the mouse and keyboard work within the BIOS, within the diagnostic tool, and within the aforementioned liveUSB of Ubuntu. So the problem lies in the system. I don't know what to do here. Machine is 64-bit. Doesn't have PS/2 ports. Do not have installation disc. I _do_ have a Dell "Drivers and Utilities" disc, though.

ur mouse is locked too? and if ur keyboard doesnt kick in after it gets to login, uv got a major hardware problem. could be faulty wire connecting that goes from usb port to the motherboard, or u need a new motherboard
