Honestly, SMB2 is such an underrated installment in the franchise. The sheer level creativity went from 1 to 10 just like that! There are so many more things you can do, so many new actions, moves, dynamic gameplay, complex levels, puzzles, warp dimensions, etc.! Even the classic level themes started here! I actually prefer Mario 2 utilizing longer, more memorable levels compared to the linear style of Mario 3. I still love Mario 3, but it brought with it most of the flaws from Mario 1, and the sheer number of levels caused many stages to blur together or have the exact same idea. In Mario 2 though, every stage is unique; every stage subverts your expectations, and every stage is bursting with wildly fun ideas and the challenge to boot! I could go on and on about this game, and it's my favorite of the original trilogy. From this list, I'd say 2 & World have the best level designs.
I totally agree, man, SMB2 deserves more love! I still really love the “classic Mario” feel the other games provide, but there’s something so unique about Mario 2 that has never been replicated. Thanks so much for sharing man!
@@GamesAreCreative Games like Mario 2 and Sunshine are often sidelined because they are 'too different' or 'stray from the Mario formula', but what's that supposed to mean? This is Mario we're talking about. This is Nintendo we're talking about! Doing things different is what they do! Just because some entries aspire to be something else, does not detract from the quality of the games. Comparatively, the Mario RPGs have way wackier gameplay than any of the main series, and they're still beloved. It's an interesting stigma, indeed.
@@calebdonaldson8770 For sure man. I’m really excited to start working on my Sunshine episode soon, because I agree, it’s maligned and underrated far too often. Creativity and ambition needs to be celebrated!
