It was a fine morning in March 1982. The warm weather and clear sky gave promise of an early spring. Buzz had arisen early that morning, impatiently eaten breakfast and gone to the garage. Opening the door, he saw the sunshine bounce off the gleaming hood of his 15-year-old MGB roadster. After carefully checking the fluid levels, tire pressures and ignition wires, Buzz slid behind the wheel and cranked the engine, which immediately fired to life. He thought happily of the next few hours he would spend with the car, but his happiness was clouded - it was not as easy as it used to be.
Still one of my favorite Rush songs, especially when I go blasting through the countryside in my little convertible. Thanks for getting my day started off right Jamel!
Sounds 80's, 90's? Doesn't matter, their sound and clean production is so timeless. Man, those guitar parts, and Geddy's bass... Neil Peart, as always, made the drums such a focal point of this song. Not really one of my faves from Rush, but that's because they set the bar so high with their other songs. Yeah it's Rush, it's a masterpiece, thank you for this!
Another Rush fan has been born! It's just too bad that they've retired as a band, I'm sure that you would have loved to see them live. Take it from me, it was definitely a great experience! At least there's plenty of live performance videos of them for you to enjoy. You're obviously a true music appreciator, and Rush has given us 40 years of awesome material to appreciate, that's for sure! This is one of my favorite Rush songs, it's a great storytelling song, and the music and lyrics take you on a journey through a futuristic time where gasoline powered vehicles have been outlawed by the government. It's rebellious, glorious, and completely paints a picture in your mind. That's a hallmark of great writing, and something that seems to be lost in today's music. So glad you are enjoying this legendary band! It's been a blast taking the journey along with you! And yes... that's instruments creating the sound of the car engine accelerating, Geddy's synthesizer to be exact! As always, Peace and love from Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A!

This song taught me to appreciate poetry. It's a science fiction poem about a man who saves a car after they've been outlawed, and he allows his nephew to drive it around every weekend ("I commit my weekly crime!"). The lyrics once he starts driving: "Wind in my hair, shifting and drifting, mechanical music, adrenaline surge! Well-weathered leather, hot metal and oil, the sun, the country air. Sunlight on chrome, the blur of the landscape, every nerve aware!" Sight, smell, hearing, and feeling. It put me right in the driver's seat!
"At the one-lane bridge I leave the giants stranded At the riverside Race back to the farm To dream with my uncle At the fireside." What an exhilarating scene!
I see Rush, I watch. Also, please react to the live version of YYZ with the drum solo from a show of hands tour, I know you've seen YYZ live but this drum solo is such a defining moment in my eyes for neil peart to help solidify him as the best of all time.
Brother Neil Peart left us last year, he was the drummer and main lyricist. He was also an author. His wife and daughter died 18 months apart. He hit the road on his motorcycle and toured North America, incognito. His book, "Ghost Rider", is about his journey to find meaning to keep on going.
New subscriber. I think you would be doing yourself a service by looking into Ronnie James Dio. He will probably be on any shortlist for greatest 70’s-80’s metal lead-singer. I’m pretty stunned you haven’t checked his stuff out yet. Part of his legend was his short stature. He was 5’4 but he had an IMMENSELY powerful voice. He headlined several iconic metal bands so the list I have for you will have different band names. I do believe you aught to listen and react to his work. Here are my suggestions: “The Last In Line” - Dio “Stargazer” - Rainbow “Holy Diver” - Dio “Stand Up And Shout” - Dio “Gates Of Babylon” - Rainbow His music videos can be pretty distracting. I would advise just watching the videos that are only an image of the album cover. Live Performance: “Dio - Rainbow In The Dark (Live The Spectrum 1984)”
Great name. I feel the same about my Miata. When all the battery trash inevitably fails my ICE will not be bothered. But "Black Barchetta" would have to be mine if it was called that haha

Don’t get me wrong I love Geddy and Neil but they’re always put on a pedestal when compared to Alex when I totally believe Alex is on the same level as both in terms of technical ability. Alex is the Guitarist that got me to pick up a guitar and start learning to play.

How did three musical savants find each other and click together like clockwork. This is beyond tight, they are like one mind
Yes! That was Alex's guitar making that "car" sound! Such a cool, fun song!
Such a powerful messege from "At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside"
Thaaaank you Neil!
Was at this tour 4 times in 1981. It was just as incredible live.
Yes...that was Alex doing it with his guitar!! A true master
Yes that most definitely was a guitar making that sound. Alex Lifeson is a master!
As underrated as it gets. Sadly.
Yes! And in concert the video behind them on stage shows the view from driving the car with lights chasing. AWESOME!!!!!!
Ahhhh...the song that's always playing in my heads soundtrack as I hop on my bike and head up the coast 😁
✌
Rick Haddad amen bro
When it hits the "run like the wind" line, my heart can't soar any higher!
"A nice morning drive" was the short story Neil based the lyrics on. This song and album are a masterpiece of prog-rock.
THIS! THIS IS IT! The track that first pulled me down the Rush rabbit hole. (And this whole Moving Pictures LP...perfection. So grateful I saw this tour.)
Montrose's song, "Bad Motor Scooter," the 🎸 sounds like a bike taking off! The lead singer actually was the singer for Van Halen, after they regrouped, taking Eddie Lee Roths place.
David Lee Roth
Sammy Hagar was part of Montrose and later Van Halen.
Also Hagar, Schonn, Aaronson, and Shreve; Chickenfoot (awesome supergroup) and the Circle as well as a solo career that spans the decades. Sammy is the man!
Can you do Rush song A Farewell To Kings. Great song and I haven't seen anyone do it.
Or Madrigal
And the lyrics are some the most profound in what is already a catalog fecund with profundity.
Agreed! He should definitely do "A Farewell to Kings"!
Yes please!
In my top 5
I saw Rush 3 times between 1988 and 1995. And they are truly amazing live.
Still one of my favorite Rush songs, especially when I go blasting through the countryside in my little convertible. Thanks for getting my day started off right Jamel!
I must try listening to this while driving my red 1995 mx5 🤔😉
Just love the sound of Geddy Lee's Rickenbacker bass.
Yes!!! Mine's a '96! And I too, love the sound of a Rick!
This is what I listened to from high school through college.
Hans Gruber “Moving Pictures” for a reason... most songs on this album were written to be very cinematic.
I saw Rush in Concert in 1980 or 81 when this album came out.....I can't believe how people are finally figuring our how great they are(were)!!!!!!! thank you for bringing them to light
The 80's feel. Yeah, like exactly 1980.
Yep, released in '81
Actually, 1981
This dont sound dated like most 80s music though
@@DTWC yeah the only Rush that really sounds a little dated is their mid 80s albums when they used a lot of synthesizers and keyboards which were a big thing at that time with many bands
@@youtoo2233 Oh you mean when RUSH wanted to sound like the Police for a few albums? LOL
Grew up on RUSH. They were like food and water to me. So cool to watch new generations like you being introduced to one of the greatest bands ever. Keep on rockin'.
That was Alex Liefson guitar my man.
Vern Shumway best ever!!
Saw them play the entire moving pictures album live ..........pure brilliance.
Check out RUSH'S YYZ. Oh my goodness, I can't even explain it it's amazing. I believe YYZ is on the same album if I'm not mistaken. Please please please please listen to YYZ
Dionne Hoffman he already did.
Normally right-handed. Now she's trying left-handed. Little sister on bass is 9. ⭐Audrey & Kate👽 "YYZ" {Left-handed} ruclips.net/video/-WuJ3WlW3Vg/видео.html
4 of Rush's 10 best songs are off of this album IMHO.
The best instrumental song ever imo.
Listen to the exit stage left live version
This song taught me to appreciate poetry. It's a science fiction poem about a man who saves a car after they've been outlawed, and he allows his nephew to drive it around every weekend ("I commit my weekly crime!").
The lyrics once he starts driving: "Wind in my hair, shifting and drifting, mechanical music, adrenaline surge! Well-weathered leather, hot metal and oil, the sun, the country air. Sunlight on chrome, the blur of the landscape, every nerve aware!" Sight, smell, hearing, and feeling. It put me right in the driver's seat!
this is such a wonderful song, and classic Rush. I'm glad you love this one. 👍
Fecking love this tune.
"At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded
At the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle
At the fireside." What an exhilarating scene!
I can't tell you how many times I raced my car through the hills, this song blasting me along ;)
That was the car tearing off. Guitar.. That was won awesome 3person Canadian Band. ✌️🎸🥁
Here are my suggestions:
“The Last In Line” - Dio
“Stargazer” - Rainbow
“Holy Diver” - Dio
“Stand Up And Shout” - Dio
“Gates Of Babylon” - Rainbow
His music videos can be pretty distracting. I would advise just watching the videos that are only an image of the album cover.
Live Performance:
“Dio - Rainbow In The Dark (Live The Spectrum 1984)”
seconding this recommendation
I highly suggest live versions of most of his songs with Stargazer the only exception. Ronnie James Dio sounds best live.
I got to see these guys live three times in the 80s here in Philadelphia at the old spectrum. Some of the high points of my Music life of the 80s.
"Red Barchetta" is what I call my Jeep, I'll be driving it when the world is nothing but burning Tesla's in the ditches...
Düde, I’m at 358K in a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. The straight 6 engine is a mofo.
@@moabmoron8607 NICE. I'd love to slap a turbo on my V-6, that would make it perfect. But adding Banks intake and exhaust really helped.
Great name. I feel the same about my Miata. When all the battery trash inevitably fails my ICE will not be bothered. But "Black Barchetta" would have to be mine if it was called that haha
This song to me is the best marriage of music and lyrics. The imagery of the speeding car and the music driving it. Beautiful.
If I'm not mistaken, you only need to check out Limelight and The Camera Eye to complete the Moving Pictures album.
I think sooner or later, he might find the "Steel" to step into another "Hemisphere" or two and "Signal' us with some real "Waves'.
Time will tell.✌
@@JaDem148 A+ reply lol
Limelight is a great great song 👏🔥💯👍
Not to be offensive but you are mistaken...there is as well Vital Signs and YYZ. have a rockin'day!!
The hidden gem on the album is Witchhunt. It seriously deserves a review, especially in light of the current US political climate.
One of my favorites Rush songs
This is a great song while driving! 🚘
Favorite Rush song. So glad more and more people are discovering Rush.
Car sounds from Alex Lifeson's guitar
He was a wee bit overshadowed by Neil and Geddy after forming rhe band. Eh?
JaDem I’ve always hated that Alex never really gets the credit he deserves as a guitarist. Don’t get me wrong I love Geddy and Neil but they’re always put on a pedestal when compared to Alex when I totally believe Alex is on the same level as both in terms of technical ability. Alex is the Guitarist that got me to pick up a guitar and start learning to play.
@@lPanicSinisterl I see Lifeson as being much like gilmour in much of his style, which is why he is a favorite :) Peace!
@@lPanicSinisterl alex is under rated big time
Yes, Jamal, they did that car sounds with their instruments. And, they can do it live. Rush are incredible musicians!
I love that you reacted to this song! This is one of their best songs and underrated a bit I think. By the way, you should react to By Tor and the Snow Dog. They use instruments in a way that will absolutely love.
It should be the live version though
@@lifesabeach2597 Live version is too short, IMO.
This song always reminds me of this young woman named Alissa from Arizona I used to talk to years ago. She was and probably still is a huge Rush fan and we used to both exchange mix tapes. I didn’t really get Rush then, but a few years later I rediscovered their music and today I love them. Alissa and I lost touch long ago, but I always think of her whenever I hear a Rush song. Alissa, if you ever read this, THANK YOU. 🙏
Wait til you see the live version from Exit Stage Left...epic!!
