    I actually believe Russo more than Bischoff.Just because Russo has nothing to lose and no one to offend.Eric Bischoff on the other hand is a very close friend to Hogan and he will say the story and twist it just to make Hogan and himself look good.

      If Hogan came back later as a heel and they did a belt vs belt angle down the road, it would have made perfect sense. But WCW wouldn't just stay the course and let things develop. And Hogan is always difficult.

    • @GLPitt1
      @GLPitt1 4 года назад

      Hogan is difficult. He broke in at a time where you never gave up your spot and put the good of the company before yourself. And in the later part of his career his attitude hurt WCW and TNA. He was at a point where losses wouldn't affect him either way but still was always hesitant to put over anyone else.

      Agree. Realising it was a work makes you realise it was actually a great move for building interest. Hogan not coming back was perfect even if it wasn't the plan as it was such a great way to begin a new era with Booker, Steiner, DDP, Sting, Flair and no Nash, Hogan, Hall. They had a lot of young guys signed like AJ who would have came in after they closed too.

    Okay, here's the thing. The whole "you did something that they thought was real" argument has flaws...doing something so outlandish that leads to people thinking the show is scripted and it's all about politics...that seems great in the short term and counterproductive in the long-run. Yes, everyone knows the business is a work, but at the end of the day, these are performers. When actors perform a play, they don't keep breaking character with the excuse that "well, the audience knows we aren't REALLY these characters."

    The way this comes off is like because Russo had a problem with Bischoff, he didn’t want Hogan with the belt. That’s the part that won’t make me feel Russo was right in this situation. Hogan was still big enough to beat Jarrett. I also wouldn’t pick Jeff Jarrett to beat Hogan. You’d literally kill Hogan’s character making him lose to someone like that. I didn’t consider Jarrett in the same league as Hogan. He was a 2nd tier, Hogan was a 1st tier.

    First of all, Hulk Hogan is a hundred and ten percent in the right here, To all of the clueless Hulk Hogan hating marks out there, To prove that Russo had no long-term story planning and was not good at it.All Russo had to tell Hogan was what was next. Hogan didn't care about winning the title , he just wanted to know What's next. Hulk Hogan also paid his dues and also worked his ass off to get to where he was, Why he was able to establish creative control. And it was a smart business move because Hogan has been screwed in the past From AWA to WWF. Screw Russo and his bullshit Narrative.

    People still talk about this heck it's a great moment to see all that passion from in promo by Vince Russo. However WCW was horrible at this but it had been bad since spring or summer of 1999 although that was no fault of your own cause you were there 3 months then they brought in Kevin Sullivan he was there only 3 months then they brought you back then 6 months later they brought in John Laurenitis so the company changed their tone 3 times in a year. Other than Bischoff they never gave anyone any time to establish the product & get their feet wet. Although WCW still had a fan base even & the show was still the highest rated on The Turner Networks despite WCW were way behind The WWF & Pay Per View buyrates was terrible. There was still a fan base.

    • @kcnugfan
      @kcnugfan 5 лет назад +4

      mel bias Company never "folded". The parent company was purchased and new ownership started looking at profits and losses. Time Warner sold WCW to McMahon because WCW was losing a lot of money which is Bischoff's doing. Russo was only the show's writer. He was not head of production or talent relations. The mess of WCW had begun long before Russo left WWE. That is Bischoff's doing with the personal blessing and financial support of Ted Turner. Without Billionaire Ted's ok, Bischoff would have not been able to hand out such lucrative and counter-productive contracts and other wasteful financial deciaions.
      Ted Turner killed WCW by selling his entire network and leaving WCW without any support from on high.
      Just like Dixie killed TNA in much the same manner. Bad financial decisions kill companies every day.

      Vince Russo is so brilliant right? He had full control over wcw and tna and destroyed both promotions. This is obviously what happens when Russo has no McMahon to filter out his nonsense.
      That's why he'll NEVER book another match for the rest of his life, THANK GOD! . Bro.

      @KenDelloSandri7565 So, multiple issues with your point.
      1) if TNA was "destroyed" why is it still on tv in 2023? Lol. Russo is no longer writing it that is why it's viewership sucks lol.
      2) You must not remember the gabaege tv that WCW was putting on in late 1998 and 1999 for the reason WCW failed. I think the promotions weakest points were after Starcade 97.
      3) If McMahon was the "filter" how come everything McMahon we've been told since has been horrible and even recently the things he's been in charge of creativity have sucked and the 1.5m viewers prove that.
      Come on man lol

    Russo got himself in trouble when he wrote himself into on-screen parts of the show. Lost a huge amount of credits instantly.
    I loved what he did in WCW. The boost to the new wrestlers, exciting and edgy angles, the "powers that be" angle. It was great and would have paid off if he was given at least a year more.
    But I still hate it that he wanted to be an onscreen part of the show. He really blew that part.
    And I also don't like it that even today, he barely admits having done something wrong or is partly to blame. But that's almost a law in wrestling: always blame someone else and bend the truth in your advantage.

      @jdubthunder 6 лет назад +3

      He didn't want to be on screen; he was talked into doing it. He did it reluctantly. You can choose to believe that if you wish; but those have been his words the whole time.

      @Albert van den Berg , J-DUB - I don't care either way about Russo but J-DUB is correct, Russo was not in favor of himself being on-screen per Tony Shiavone podcast.

      J-DUB yeah, that is what Russo has always said, but you got to admit, he was a hell of a character, drew a ton of heat, still does, 😂

      WCW was going down hill before Vince even went to the company. WCW last good year was 1998. Smarks are people who take fake wrestling too seriously and think they know everything about it like whatculture and Dave Meltzer. Fake wrestling is just a TV Show. Why so mad, it's true.

    Wow, this dude thinks Kronik (with a backwards K) is better than the Shield and Bagwell and Douglas were any good? Bagwell sucked period. Never heard anyone say a positive word about Bagwell and Douglas is guilty by association. It's interesting for him and his sidekick to think that this PPV was any good. Bro, 2000 Bash at the Beach was quite possibly the worst PPV ever. Wrestling was extremely sloppy from start to finish and the wrong wrestlers pushed when not ready to be pushed. Not saying Bischoff was any better.

    The problem with WWE today is the guys are too small it'd be different if that was competing against each other cruiserweight style but no they got all these little small guys he'll take it on big guys the size of triple h or bigger and acting like they got a chance like CM punk versus John Cena give me a break that is don't even look like CM punk wouldn't stand a chance it's too f****** small it's got to be believable you can't have these little average looking guys that gets these Giants

    That PPV was shitty...Look at the wrestling in that PPV. It is for real terrible I swear I'm not just sayin that. I literally went back and watched the whole ppv. Crowds go crazy because they are seeing the stars they wanna see. They could shit the bed and the crowd will still go crazy. Most fans werent even reading the observer. Vince is right about it being memorable, but not in a good way. I'm pretty sure WCW got sued partially because of this too. Russo had some ok ideas but he wasnt a genius writer by any means. Nothing he wrote was clever or profound. Ill give him props for givin Booker T that much deserved push. Everything he wrote was very simple or extremely complicated and sloppy. It is so much craziness and sleaziness forreal. Russo was talented, but he wasnt the reason for the Attitude Era. Stone Cold and The Rock had everything to do with it. With them two you almost cant miss. Plus Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Mick Foley. Theres a lot more than that too.

    Russo every thing: championship fight, some sort of disqualification or no contest, every match. The end. Seriously, I get protecting your guys…but if you can’t have a guy legit lose while still making him look strong, you don’t understand what you’re writing. WCW was awesome for a short time with the beginning if NWO…then it’s was pretty much the exact same story in every single match for over a year. It got SO boring.

    Microscopic buyrate. No one cared about WCW outside of the hardcores who watched 1994 WCW/WWF in 2000.
    They let a lying wrestling mark book WCW in late 99 and 2000 because he told Turner executives that he was writing the rock'S promos and came up with the stone cold gimmick, the screwjob, go down the list.
    Then he was put in charge and couldnt book. He booked the main event like it was the opening match attitude era guys. You know why? Thats all he ever booked! Vince took some of his ideas but still worked directly with the talent and booked the main event
