- LETS TALK DIPSEY DIVERS! Hands down my most effective rods in my great lakes salmon and trout spread are my dipsey divers. In this video I run through my setups for both braid and wire dipsey divers, the rods, reels, and rigs. You don't need fancy lead core, coppers, or downriggers to chase great lakes fish! Send out the dipseys and wait for the rip!

Excellent instructions for dipsy divers! Very informative! Thank you very much!
Great job. You are an excellent video speaker, articulater , great flow, lots of insight in a short time!!
Fantastic. Getting into Salmon fishing only recently, this tutorial crushes.
Brings back memories of running charters out of Port Washington. Miss those days.
Awesome video, cleared up a lot of questions I had. Thank you
Awesome video Noah explaining dipsy divers and the gear you would use with them! Very much appreciated that you took the time to explain and share this information with us in great detail! What height and angle do you prefer the dipsy rod be at, so what would be the lowest and highest angle you would run the rod? I am guessing lowest to the water versus using the lowest rod tube on a rod tree?
Wire rig tip: Tie a 15' 40lb fluoro or mono leader direct to the end of your wire. This will keep ALL the wire in the spool safe from kinking and coiling when changing lures or breaking down rods to transport.
I use a nail knot for this, a tiny slip free knot that doesn't care about line diameter difference and will slip through your twilly or roller no problem.
I also use 19 strand wire from Torpedo.... so forgiving! That product brought me back to wire by alleviating so many hassles related to wire lines.
Thanks for the video.
Edited to add: The fluoro or mono leader also acts as a snubber. No break-offs whatsoever in the 8 or 9 years since running this setup.
Very cool! I've never heard of incorporating a leader to the wire. I'm going to give that a try! Thank you so much for sharing!!
@@MadisonAngling Slack is your enemy with wire, your wire stays tight on the spool.
excellent video, simple and absolutly informative. thank you very very much!!
Lot of fantastic info. THANKS
From what nibbles and bits did at that last H2H tourney last year I'd say they love the buzz...Awesome video bud...Great info...I'm in beloit usually on Kosh for now, but I'd love to chase salmon....
Great video for the beginner! Well done!
That is very kind of you - thank you!
I fish out of Port Washington. I used to go out to 300+ fow and fish Rainbows. That taught me how to set this stuff up. A 20 pound Chinook will bend the rod and fight for about 20 minutes then lay on it's side and come in. A 15 pound Rainbow will break the line and jump out of the water behind the boat laughing at you while it absconds with $30.00 in tackle! Lol. That taught me the importance of rubber snubbers on Dipseys. Then you have a fighting chance. A big Rainbow will fight for an hour and will fight you all the way into the boat! I use Ande's mono on most of my rigs. It works well for me. 15 lb for April and May, 20 lb for the rest of the season. Especially in August when the big Kings hit. On my 18 footer a 15 foot leader on a Dipsey would be a bit excessive. I use Slide divers in Spring to get a longer lead and switch to Dipsey's come June. Then I use about a six foot lead.
Fantastic overview… I’m new at this! Great videii
Great vid thank you. quick question. when using the dipsy guide where do you start the line counter. When the dipsy is at the tip of the rod, or the surface of the water. or some other way? thank you..
Great info!!
Great video on dipsey divers 🎥🎣💪👍
Very helpful….thanks!
Learned so much in so little time. Great content. Any advice for someone kayaking sturgeon bay for salmon mid July? Ill be using a predator pedal drive.
Great video. I will give them a try.
This is a great video thanks a ton man.
Have you ever setup the dipsy past the three to the edge of weight setting? I’m trying to run four rods per side with two zero settings on the back corners
Thanks

Learning to fish on Lake Michigan. What should my starting Dipsy depth be? I know it depends on many factors. Let's say I am in 200 fow...
Great content!
Great info.
Thanks bro good stuff
Great vid. I'm in a smaller 16' boat. I fish alone a lot and was wondering about these instead of planer boards for inland walleye fishing. Gives me something to think about.
I use them to fish spoons and harnesses on Erie, they work really well once you get the hang of them
Love my slide divers.
Great video! Can you do a video while putting out double divers?
Would these be my best choice for trolling for rainbow trout at 10-30 ft deep?
Great information, if you had to guess based on feel in your hand, how much torque lb wise do the dipsy divers put out? Trying to see if my steel rod holders i use for catfishing would be strong enough for dipsys at 2 mph assuming they are tight to the boat to prevent twisting to the stern?
It's a pretty decent amount of torque, however the dipsey pulling is the least of my concerns - when a big salmon hits one its often very violent and they hit with a lot of speed and power.

Check out this dipsey hit at the 3:35 mark in this video ☝️
How far do they run to the side when set at 2, or 3? Or is that explained on the package somewhere?
Love dipsy divers!!! We run 100 foot leads behind the dipsy!
100 ft leads?
@@nickanderson8938 yes sir always.
@@nickanderson8938here is a video showing how we modify our dipsys. We just released this tactic this year to the public. ruclips.net/video/qZVVsU9Qb5k/видео.html
We run Removable dipsys, and we can control our leads. The long lead makes the spoon act like a copper or steel line. I posted a link to one of our videos. Out of the last 5 years competing here on salmon tournaments we have won 1st or second 4 years of the 5.
Illegal on lake erie we are allowed 15 ft
I’m learning a ton from you that I’m transferring to deep walleye fishing! Could you pull a 4.75 swim bait on that rig?
You definitely could but I don’t think it would catch anything 😂
You say you need a shock obsorber but couldnt you just set your drag so that the fish doesnt snap you off? Also would heavy Mono test work for a snubber? They use it for sharks.
If I’m fishing deep 150’ do I need the biggest dipsy? The magnum says only 100’?
I think downraiders are too much work give me a dipsy anyday great video tight lines
I have run mono for years on dipsey rods. Never had any noticeable issue hooking up with fish.
Hooking up isn’t the problem. Trying to pop a dipsey with mono vs braid is way harder. Mono is like pulling on a bunge cord.
Great information. What a spread one can do. Good stuff. Does color of the Diver itself make a difference? Thanks
Forgot to ask. Does the Precision Troller app provide information for Dipsy Divers?
Meaning line counter reels and how many feet out etc. Had to ask
Most charter captains use clear, black or white. Sometimes color makes a difference but the fish see the underside of the dipsey ahead of your lure.
When running Dipsey Divers do you always put out inside rods first then outside rods.
Outside rod first assuming it’s running higher
How do you deal with the ‘flea” that builds up on your braid?
That is an awesome question. Honestly I just kind of deal with it. Braid and wire are very hard to keep clean, the fleas build up no matter what. The only rods I don't have issues with when it comes to fleas is my downriggers. I have a set for when the fleas are bad with 40lb mono, which is too thick for them to cling to, and a set with 25lb mono when they aren't bad. If you find a way to keep fleas off braid, you be a rich dude
Do y🎉ou ever run a dips on copper line 21:53
How do you terminate the wire to the backer line and the snap to the dipsy
Awesome question! This is the video I used to set my wire reels up:
ruclips.net/video/6PE3lua50Ds/видео.html
How far back to you put your flasher and then your bait.
I learned some, but not what I wanted to learn. If I want the dipsey to run let's say 10' deep, 20' 30' and 40', how would I set them to accomplish this? Is it the size of the dipsey, the setting, or what? Thanks.
That information varies by size, line diameter, speed, ect. Best way to find that is the manufacturer's dive charts
@@MadisonAngling Let me rephrase the question. If I had 4 identical rods with identical lures, the same exact line and 4 dipsey divers that were identical, could I get them to 4 different depths just by making adjustments? Thanks
@@rumbleseat1 yes, by letting out more or less line they will run different depths. Additionally, for example, if you put each out at 100 feet of line, but one is on a "1" setting, and the other is at a "3" setting, the rod at a "1" setting will be quite a bit deeper than the rod on a "3" setting.
@@MadisonAngling Excellent! That's what I was looking to learn. Thanks!
does the speed of the boat affect the depth of the diver?
Yes
Doesn’t the bead get stuck in the twili tip ?
Fortunately I got lucky and the bead is actually big enough that it doesn't get stuck!
I need to catch bigger fish...have been.doing fine with no snubber lol
How do you know how to get to the depth you want? I FISH for walleye most in 15 to 30 ft.
Chart included in new package
That chart says 20lb mono!
Then use appropriate rod and reel to use 20 lb mainline. Leader behind the dipsey can be lighter or heavier, your preference. Dipseys come in different sizes and colors
I have to ask what State you live in to fish lake Michigan.
Wisconsin
What knot you tying to dipseys.
Never tie dirrect, always use a big crosslock snap or a big snap - swivel to attach. That said I use a Palomar Knot with braid rods to my snap, and essentially a square knot when I'm tying to wire line.
This is an awesome video showing how to spool up and rig a wire diver rod, which includes the same knot I use to attach the wire to a snap ruclips.net/video/6PE3lua50Ds/видео.html
@@MadisonAngling Thanks I just lost my Dipsy snubber and j plug on a big king because I tied directly to the Dipsy with 50lb braid.
@@MadisonAngling Thanks I'll check it out .
