We're running same techniques on Superior. I have a Panther remote controlled steering on my kicker, so with steady wind speeds it's not too hard to "controlled drift" over the break lines and flats. Not as good as spotlock, but a reasonable way to stay mostly on fish. Sometimes I'm backing into 2 foot breaking waves, almost like mooching in the Pacific Northwest for salmon.
If you are jigging for lake trout you need a spot lock. I got it mine in September 2023. Now I regret i did not get the more advanced one that pulls out / in electronically. Pedal would have also been useful. Night and day again an anchor.
Oh you are getting smooth i take a lot of youth fishing i need numbers like crappie or white or yellow perch i know you know and ive seen one old vidio of you crappie fishing so any tips tricks location sugestions
AWESOME VID!!! I’m going to a lake next week and I would like to catch my first laker but I don’t have a sonar or downriggers. Is there anyway I can catch them without electronics???
I love your video! I come from Quebec and I have a Garmin Echomap 73CV with the GT24. I manage to see my jig in maximum 50 feet.. and in 50 feet and more I don't see anything.. yet I fish directly under my transducer.. can you tell me which parameter to adjust or deactivate please 👌🐟
Great vid mate, I always wet my hands before handling them! Wonder if jigging, would work for rainbows, or browns? Here in Australia, i dont know any one that jigs for trout. We have browns and rainbows, and some brook.
Thank you for mentioning the damage caused by Boga grips. I have seen it happen and they are absolutely not allowed in my boat. If you can’t hold a fish without them, I will hold the fish for you until you learn, but you absolutely aren’t using a Boga with me.
@@BendItFishingquestion I have the same graph and transducer set up but mine doesn’t show the live bar graph on the right side when using the traditional sonar. Where do I find that setting?
@@BendItFishing Sweet! It looks like high fish density up there based on your videos and sonar pics. The only lake trout fishing i’ve done is in NW Michigan. I don’t see as many fish up there but a few are quite big. I’ve only been trolling for them but looking forward to some of the Jigging techniques next time out. I actually used a very similar jigging technique to catch halibut in the 40-120 pound range last time in Alaska. It just works for bottom huggers (basically the exact same jig set up just one pound instead of 1 oz jigs).
Nice info! Things I do anyways, When my boat motor is fixed! So I got the lowdown on what is going on with it. New fuel pump! over $400. for the thing! A $23 other part. plus labor at $150. an hr!close to 1K this year! The thing is gone once it is fixed! Be a new motor that's for sure! Not even or about broke in! Not much else can go wrong with it now?? 2 years ago put a new brain in it and a bunch of other parts. can't remember now what they were over the 5 or 6 years we have had it! We don't go much and it needs to be run a lot more than we run it! I will stick with the older motors from now on!
You bounce arround on the rods line etc i get it if the fish are larger or smaller still on the average NH lake give me a choice of 3 best vertical jig lake trout rods please
@@BendItFishing Nope it's a lot higher than years past! After Irene hit us the lake went really high for a year. Wiped out houses and camps!! Then it has dropped to all time lows. Back up a little from the rain from last year. Normal depth for now!
These are some excellent lessons

Back troll or slow drift is easy and works great.

Great instructional. Do you have a link to the heavy duty rubber replacement net?

Great video. Looking to try Lakers for the first time in the UP.
Good luck!
Thanks for the video, answers lot of questions for me.

I want the auto deploy too. It's so awesome!
Thank You for all the good info

I use the fish and game website to find crappie it's pretty accurate

Use a swim bait or big spoon drop it to bottom and then jig it aggressively a few times and then reel it to the surface and repeat!

You are using clearvu it sounds like switch to normal 2d or 200 khz
@@BendItFishing I set 200 khz, average scrolling speed, sensitivity around 75, color gain 80.. I can see my jig clearly in 50 to 55 feet maximum
Still sounds like you are in the wrong screen, look for "traditional" sonar

Wetting your hands is always good. Yes you can jig for rainbows and browns I catch a bunch of rainbows jigging

Awesome video - thanks for sharing it! Do you have any advice for jigging Kastmaster lures for lakers in the Summer on Lake Champlain?
Let it hit bottom, snap jig a few times then reel it to the surface
@@BendItFishing Thanks ☘️
Subscribed when I realized you were on Champlain!
TY!

@holder1336ify in traditional sonar go to menu> sonar setup> appearance> A-scope
@@BendItFishing thank you! I’ve been trying to figure that out for a while now!
Welcome, a GPSmap model might be a little different. One of my videos from last year goes over all my sett6
Lakers are the best!!
what lake are you on?
@marksimmonds1694 champlain
Where the link for the $600 spot lock you can add to regular trolling motors?
Are you referring to the autoboat smathead?
Yes the autoboat and the link is in the description
@@BendItFishing Nice videos man looks like you’re having a blast. The instructional videos are top notch 👍👍. What state are you fishing out of?
@bill_y4762 thank you, I am from New Hampshire but fish Maine and Vermont

Such a bummer sorry
Ok this a big one do you set the hook when the rod is fully loaded half loaded or is it by sight on the live scope how do you know when to set
It's a feel thing
Set on slightest weight, feel like a click with no weight, or when line goes slack on the drop.
Set hard on tight drag and reel alot on the set.
You bounce arround on the rods line etc i get it if the fish are larger or smaller still on the average NH lake give me a choice of 3 best vertical jig lake trout rods please
The 2 rods I use the expride 7 medium and the gloomis gcx sjr medium.
Fenwick hmg 6.5 foot medium weight fast action
Whats the mount for livescope? Thanks

@@BendItFishing thank you! I just put in a small order to support your channel.
Thank you I appreciate it!
What kind of tube's, I bought 5 inch but the weight won't fit inside of the tube, thanks
If you bought my tubes you have to use water and lubricate both the jig and the tube for it to fit. It's the 3.75 inch tubes
‘Setting the hook multiple times’ do this when shaking their head, when reeling them up, preventing them to dive further…?
Tia!
It's more to get the hook past the barb. But I also use heavy gear so they don't have to fight so hard
If your on Champlain how low is the lake?
Wasnt low at all that I saw
@@BendItFishing Nope it's a lot higher than years past! After Irene hit us the lake went really high for a year. Wiped out houses and camps!! Then it has dropped to all time lows. Back up a little from the rain from last year. Normal depth for now!
I’m guessing about a foot and a half below top of boat.
Haha
You use ClearVu or just 2D sonar?
Clearvu is for fine detail, 2d is fast reading or jigging
is it normal to have interference on garmin uhd95sv with gt54?
The top part of the lake yes.
Anchor is still better than spotlock. Getting the right anchor with a bouy will work wonders
Sounds like someone has never used spot lock
@@BendItFishing ok spaghetti arms working with a anchor isn’t gonna kill you 😆
@Realtor436 I might get wrapped in the line and pulled over you never know!!
