My buddies know a place quite a ways off the shore of lake huron that they use GPS to get to and what depth we are fishing at. They do have a fish finder but it doesn't often mark fish so it's more of a guessing game. We caught one of the biggest fish so far for a derby going on atm. The fish finder did nothing in finding the fish for us, in fact we don't bother looking at it, we more focus on our depth!
Yeah. So weird that people use technology to their advantage. Shocking that they don't just drive around aimlessly, wasting their own and their customer's time.
@@CG-vr4mb brother I think you took that a little too personal- I was saying that for the people that can’t afford hundreds or thousands of dollars in fishing equipment. Go touch some grass.
Heading up to Northern Walleye Lodge in Missanabie, ON end of August thru Beginning of September. I haven't been to Canada in decades. Going mainly for walleye, but do want to try some lake trout fishing. Do you have a video where you go over your setup(s) that you use (rod and reel, line, etc...) and your favorite baits? Also, do you ever catch, clean and cook your lake trout? Thanks!
Best bet would be to use topography maps and fish structure, inclines, flats, it takes a long time and a lot of effort , trial and error to figure a body of water out.
Very intersting. I will try these thecnics. But i canot use electronics here in national parc Canada. But i dont worry, just leave to stisk on buttom will be improve my lake trout jigging. Tanks.
Mac, love the content! You have any tips for late July/August cruisers that don't seem to be interested in anything at all. I'm in Ontario and I see tons of slow cruisers coming down from higher in the column headed to the bottom or just fish on the bottom that won't take interest in anything I drop to them. Tubes, swimbaits, spoons, rattle baits, blade baits, hair jigs, spin tails, you name it. Just trying to figure out how to catch these guys lol Or is it just a matter of them not feeding when I happen to be fishing??! Thanks and keep the good content coming!
Try floating a swim bait maybe 20 ft above the fish. Don't jig it or anything. Gives the look of a natural bait fish just sitting in the water column. When the laker comes up to see it, start reeling. You have to time it so you start reeling just as it gets close enough but not so close he sees that it is not a real bait fish. And when you start reeling you have to reel pretty fast. I have caught many lake trout this way in the summer in pressured lakes where the trout have seen many lures. The jigging up and down or putting the bait in front of their faces does not work because that is not what a real bait fish will do and they get too good of a look at your lure and it spooks them.
Another tip now this is just personally for me. I never pumped the rod when I reel up or fight it. I always gently lift while keeping pressure if I keep pointing down and reeling while lifting up I feel like gives it a touch of slack cause they spit it easy
Thanks for the video. Do you think its necissary to mount the livescope on the pole or is it ok to mount on trolling motor when doing this style of fishing?
Solid video man. Thanks for the tips. Did have a question. My live scope isn’t the clearest like yours. Should I run a dedicated battery to my livescope. I feel like after messing with all my settings I have to run super high gain to see myself down there.
@MacMulligan were going to a deep water lake, so your setup is what I want but not trying to spend thousands at first, never fished trout before I'm normally fishing for bass
I like the format and content here. But the audio volume levels are all over the place. Look in your video editor for audio tools like "compressor" or "limiter", or just pay some basic attention to levels when you're editing. Then, with the good content, I think that your channel can go far.
If this was filmed yesterday, July 24th, then I can confirm that the lake trout here in Northeast, Minnesota. They were acting very much the same way. Either they just straight up couldn't be bothered with anything I was sending down to them, or they would half heartedly chase and only bump the lure every now and then. Paying attention to solunar tables is definitely a thing... yesterday was rubbish
I believe this was filmed the 18th. I definitely see patterns too but I'm a firm believer that theres a way to catch some fish at all times its just where and how
The Timelapse of you heading out to spot at the start was amazing. Great perspective of your trip out to the spot. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for the comment appreciated 😀
Bunch of good tips, another good video!!
Appreciate it thanks man!
Great job and the information is very useful when targeting Lake Trout. I targeted lake trout all the time but I troll for them 🎥😎👍🇨🇦
Thanks for watching! Appreciate it!
Truly the trip out to the big lake is worth a whole video . Nice job.
It really is! Maybe will
Thank you, that was very educational.
Thank you! Subscribe for more!
Got to love catching those burbot in the summer. A great tasting treat on the barbecue.
They are great tabel fair yes! My favorite shore lunch
Can't find any lake trout fishing guides that don't use sonar. So weird how people can't catch fish without a fish finder.
Old school

The Mac is Back !!! Let’s gooo!
Thanks buddy
Mac Attack!!!!! Mac in awe!
Haha exactly!
hey, just wondering how I would find a school or some lake trout without livescope/tech, or knowing if there is cover near the bottom?
I still use My 2d technology to find schools of lake trout or to chase bait fish schools!
And what would that be, and how would I use it

Glad it helped!
Thanks Mat, and it is fun! Lol
looks like a perfect day out!!! LIKE GLASS no wind

Do you mind sharing what sonar you're using?
126sv ultra
Hey, what mounting solution are you using to stack your helix's vertically? And are you happy with it? Seem stable in waves? Thanks.
I run 2 cisco mounts and yes I find there pretty good
I like using walleye assassin plastics when jigging for lakers.... I've had really good luck with them this year.

Some times crazy fast is the way to go!

I live out west and gonna give it a whirl. What do you use for bait and do you use scents. I fish alot of salmon out here
Tip with cut bait some times
Another tip now this is just personally for me. I never pumped the rod when I reel up or fight it. I always gently lift while keeping pressure if I keep pointing down and reeling while lifting up I feel like gives it a touch of slack cause they spit it easy
Your rod should do all the work. Your reel is just to manage the line
Thanks for the video. Do you think its necissary to mount the livescope on the pole or is it ok to mount on trolling motor when doing this style of fishing?
The pole is better in my opposition because there's less movement where the trolling motor is none stop moving

I'm running the lvs 62 also

@MacMulligan and what is that feature your using called I wanna make sure I have that feature if I don't get that model

How heavy of leader line do you recommend? I’ve been running 30lb fluoro but scared it’s too heavy and I’m missing opportunities
I use 15-20
What kind of lure are you "Jigging" with Please??!! Thank You
A few different droptine tackel tubes
What fish finder are you using?
Garmin live scope lvs 62 on a 126sv utra
What bait, rod and reel is good for the lake trout fishing?
I use alot of steel head rods and I like spinning reels nothing better than hearing that drag peel
What action rod do you recommend?
In this video I was using a mh steel head rod
