    Never used a dipsy, ,,, but I have over-reeled into top eye a lot over the years, I love the idea of a bead and bumper at top,, where do you get the rubbery beads ?

    Great detail on the rigging. I am just getting back into fishing after a 12 year hiatus. Down in Georgia and I have used dipsy divers and planer boards to catch hybrid stripers in Lake Lanier. I have moved to the NW part of GA and with a new boat due early Nov I'm eager to get on Carter's lake, which is a very deep lake that DNR puts walleye in. It's the only walleye fishing in GA that I'm aware of, and most people down south have no idea what a walleye even is. Having done a bunch of fishing for walleye and other northern species in MN and Canada in my past I'm really looking forward to figuring out the walleye fishing down here. Carter's lake is deep (~400'ish around dam) but I am concerned of losing rigs on trees. Going to have to figure it out. I realize Lake Erie doesn't have those challenges but any tips would be great to battle the trees (besides pulling 100lb braid :) ). Loved your video, subscribed and will be checking out more of your videos to help me fish for walleye in GA>

      Thanks Paul! We'll my advice would be to start with your baits running high.....away from all danger. If you are marking walleye and they don't bite.....slowly let out line 5 ft at a time until you get hits. I catch most of my fish running baits 5 ft above the fish I'm targeting. Keeps you well away from bottom and trees and targets active fish

    What do you usually use at the end of the line? Cranks, spoons?

  • @navychief8425

    One more question. How much line do you load onto your trolling rods?

    • @HansTheCarver
      @HansTheCarver  Год назад +2

      I put 400 ft of braid on top of mono backers. Best way I found to figure out the exact amounts is to reverse spool onto an identical reel. Put 400ft of braid first then fill the reel with mono......and record the amount of mono. Then reel all that onto another identical reel and you are perfectly filled and now you have the amount of mono you need for the next reel.

    How do you calculate the depth of a crank and the diver? are you just verifying with livescope? do you normal run shallow or deep diving cranks ? seems like it could get complicated.

    I grew up fishing the upper river and into Canada. I retired from the military and moved back to western NY about 10 years ago and want to get into walleye and perch in the east end of the lake. I subscribed and looking forward to more vieods. How do you know when you get a hit on the dipsy?

    • @DEVILDOG1964
      @DEVILDOG1964 Год назад

      THE DIPSY IS SET BY YOU TO DIVE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DIPSY/DOWNRIGGER ROD, THE DIPSY WILL PUT PRESSURE ON THE ROD AND BEND IT DOWN. WHEN THE DIPSY RELEASE IS SET PROPERLY WHEN A FISH HITS THE DIPSY WILL RELEASE AUTOMATICALLY AND IT CHANGES FROM DIVE TO PLAIN OR FIGHT MODE. THE ROD WILL POP UP AND USUALLY SET THE HOOK FOR YOU MIOST OF THE TIME.

    Hi. Thanks for the info. Question: DO you troll crawler harnesses off this rig?

  • @Catboy-hr2qp
    @Catboy-hr2qp Год назад

    Completely new to trolling, i will definitely be returning to this video when i get my dipsys in and need to set them up. I will be trolling for trout aiming for 10-15 depth. Trolling from my jet ski is definitely a different experience but it works even with my newbie setup of 3/4 oz egg sinker and 1/4 spinner. Only question i have is can you cast the dipsy out? Because i cant just let line out since it'll get sucked into the pump, im saving for a trolling motor for that exact reason and to save wear and tear on the engine

    • @cameronk3601
      @cameronk3601 Год назад

      You won't need to, the dive is so strong on them it will dive down before getting sucked in. Also you can set them to plane out to the sides.

    Hey thanks for that great explanation! I’m curious, I also use a lot of dipseys and slide divers, and I’ve been wanting to go to shorter rods but can only get them in medium light… in 7.5ft… what size dipsey are you running on those ugly sticks? They are ugly conventional? Or big water? Thanks for any info you got!

    • @HansTheCarver
      @HansTheCarver  Год назад +2

      Sorry for late reply.....I love the big water 8'3". Use it for all my divers now. Bends up awesome.....loads up and holds onto fish. People don't like them cuz they are ugly sticks.....but when the bend is right......the bend is right

    Great video. Would love more east end walleye videos. I'm newer to trolling walleye and I know the east end fishes differently, most Erie walleye videos tend to be West end related. You mostly run harnesses off your dipsys? Thank you

  • @jwpercy
    @jwpercy Год назад +3

    How do you set the tension on the release? I find the larger dipsy load up a lot of tension and dialing in the tension to get them to release on a bite can be challenging having to balance that with them not releasing just from the resistance of the water.

    • @HansTheCarver
      @HansTheCarver  Год назад +3

      I stand at the edge of the boat with a screw driver in my hand and play with it until it's right. I don't think there is any other way. Should easily handle a 2mph trolling speed without popping too easy so that hooks get into the fish before the dipsey breaks.

    What size diver do you recommend to get down to 40'? Don't want on that's to big if I can help it but don't want to let out a ton of line either if I can help it!! Thanks!
