How to play: Tuning: D G D G C D (low E down 1 step; A down 1 step; D and G same; B up one half step; high E down 1 step). Verse chords (Including lyrics to give a basic idea of timing, but just listen and you'll get it): 5-7-0-7-0-0 "Into the..." "Weather for-..." 8-10-0-10-0-0 "...desert." "...-ever." 1-3-0-3-0-0 "Desperate..." "Bellowing..." 3-5-0-5-0-0 "...clouds." "...out." "Chorus" (the loud part basically) 13-15-0-15-0-0 (hit this chord with each syllable you sing; each "chorus" has a different length) "Through the windows of a passed... 1-3-0-3-0-0 "...life." That's pretty much it, just the two parts. Holy Holy is also in this tuning and uses similar chord shapes. I think most of Civilian is in DGDGCD in fact.
This song is amazing, I can usually find one or two things about a song that I don't like but this song is pitch perfect to me. I can't even hear the lyrics but I don't mind, it's the music that matters and I don't need those lyrics to understand what this song's about and that's what I'd call an accomplishment.
Plains is one of my favorite tracks on Civilian. Civilian is in my top ten of 2011. Baltimore sure knows how to churn out some great bands. I would love to see Wye Oak and Beach House play together.
Pretty good lesson right here. Just watch her. Looks like Minor7th barre F/G/C maybe... then the higher octave for the chorus. With a guitar shouldn't take long to suss.
Criminally underrated group. Need to see them live before I kick the bucket.
Plains is my favourite song in 2011 so far. Live rendition is amazing.
God bless them.

This is the biggest test right ?? if you love a band just when you listen to them live ! then you become obsessed with them :D
Excellent!
god this band rocks
Dude! that IS the best part!
so awesome!
it's not the guitar delay. it's andy's keys. watch the parts where you see him play the keys. same timing.
what type of guitar is that?
@iesus68 its like a month left of the year. "So far" is kind of ot of its place :D
someone make guitar lessons of wye oak songs theres none on youtube at

+Evets Iksatu i think she tuned her guitar differently
+As Bak Yes she had a diferent guitar tuned
+Miguel Angel Alonso López I play this song in D G D G C D.... Is the same tuning for "Holy Holy"
So something is layered here. There is DEFINITELY a palm-muted guitar throughout the verses, but no sign of a second guitarist. Anyone else hear that?
They use loops/samples live. Drummer is playing synth and also triggering/controlling samples via his keyboard.
I like this song but always disliked the "noisy" part of it
