In the belly of the cloud I was released You were released Was it deafeningly loud? Or was it peace? Sweet peace All the streets All filled with sound Because it's right It's for the best Still I sense Their judgment now As we ask for rest Just rest I can't sleep until I see you sleeping Curse my mind and its all-seeing eye Watch the rise And wonder if you're breathing Against your will You are alive I don't recognize the world That you have made That we have made Still you fool yourself to ask If you had stayed If we had stayed At the ringing of a bell Or at the falling of a tree If you think of it at all Remember me Just me I can't breathe until I see you waking Watching as the scars fall from your eyes Into a world that you may not remember I hope you die I hope you die I hope you die I hope you die
I haven't found a musical talent i could genuinely fall in love with that tops Wye Oak. I prefer all of their music live like this. The recordings are fine and perfect but showing off their talents in a manner as raw as this; it's perfection. I recommend Villagers. And of course, anything he does live or raw is as well much more lovely than the recordings.
for SOME REASON, his accoustic lives are better than the recorded album. ..I...I don't know why she doesnt release a simpler version. It's simple an amazing and I think most ppl will enjoy it better this way
Is the title of this song perhaps the reason this concert is not published on the NPR Music channel @nprmusic ? 😅 I'm curious why NPR disowned this concert.
This version is almost as awesome as the album version. Any version of this song would be good in my opinion. There aren't many Wye Oak songs that I DON'T like, but this is definitely is my favorite. It may even slip in as my all time favorite song sometimes.

In the belly of the cloud
I was released
You were released
Was it deafeningly loud?
Or was it peace?
Sweet peace
All the streets
All filled with sound
Because it's right
It's for the best
Still I sense
Their judgment now
As we ask for rest
Just rest
I can't sleep until I see you sleeping
Curse my mind and its all-seeing eye
Watch the rise
And wonder if you're breathing
Against your will
You are alive
I don't recognize the world
That you have made
That we have made
Still you fool yourself to ask
If you had stayed
If we had stayed
At the ringing of a bell
Or at the falling of a tree
If you think of it at all
Remember me
Just me
I can't breathe until I see you waking
Watching as the scars fall from your eyes
Into a world that you may not remember
I hope you die
I hope you die
I hope you die
I hope you die

I am in love with Jenn's music. Her voice, lyrics, everything.
A woman who sings with emotion, passion and feel everything has my 💙 forever and ever 🌈

Love this song anyway, but this version is just incredible.
the phrasing of the sylables broken up over a chord change is fucking brilliant
Heard this magnificent song when it was used for the camera test for "Blue Ruin". Absolutely the perfect song...so haunting and powerful!
Love when that kick drum comes in
The first chorus gives me chills, every time.

I didn't think this song could get better, but listen to it at 2x speed! Guitar suddenly reminds me of the Dodos. 3:45

Really pissed at myself for just discovering this band now, but also simultaneously pompous about having done so.
love it

Heeeeeey girl :)

I adore, adore, adore that record, but damn, this version is almost better.
Or was it peas? ...sweat peas?
Does anyone know approximately what chords she's using here? Kind of hard to tell since the camera moves around quite a bit.
Sarah Lahaye Mann i know this is 3 years late but its drop d tuning
The most beautiful euthanasia song I've ever heard.

Great song and performance but it needs more wood block
jon bois anyone?
does anyone know the tuning??
DADGBE capo on the 4th fret. a few of their songs are in this tuning: dog's eyes, civilian. all of the prettiness.
Louis Weil thank you so much, could you maybe send me a tab of any wye oak songs other than civilian? it would be super helpful ive been searching everywhere i really want a tab for doubt and dogs eyes and few others
I love you :) hahahah
Jon Bois brought me here.
Never mind he is just playing a very flat snare
Dear lady from Wye Oak: if you are into slightly overweight hairy dudes from England who don't have any money, you could do a lot worse than me.
So much to like about this performance, but that wood block is just a mistake.
(title: I Hope You Die) In this day and age, you have to make sure not to offend anybody - sheesh
Ruined by failed-percussion. JESUS MAN, JUST FUCKING STOP.
So off-cue it's making me ill.
Lover her voice, tho.
But he does the same stuff in the recording.
