Some of us just come here for the music. We get enough politics on other sites. I stopped listening to Radio 6 in the UK because of DJs with good musical taste and terrible political preferences they couldn't stop sharing. Ruined it for me.
Honestly, I've listened to EVERYTHING alt-j has put out, and there hasn't been ONE song that I haven't fallen in love with. 10/10 band, would recommend.
Mia Grace some of the stuff on relaxer just goes over my head. I‘m simply not smart enough for it. Most of reduxer also isn’t for me but all in all I have to agree with you.
Relaxer was a bit of a let down for me, it seemed a bit rushed and thin compared to the first two albums. Although they are hard to top anyway, I always come back to them
I started listening to Alt-J again, don't know why ever stopped. When they played Taro a rush of memories came back to me the minute I heard the guitar. What a beautiful song with so many happy beautiful memories attached. Back then, the world for me seemed so much more vibrant and colourful. As I've grown up, the colour drains each year. Listening to this song brings some of the colour back.
sashafierce1011 I’m glad you said so. I wasn’t feeling it, but when I read your comment I decided to actually break out the good headphones and turn up the volume. Glad you swayed me to return.
i’m sad they did two violins and a cello and not a violin, viola, and cello. the viola would’ve brought some gorgeous depth to the middle voice. more balanced.
Admittedly, of the dozens of time I’ve visited this incredible little concert, I’ve never taken the time to read through he description. I’m so glad I did. The strings were so utterly enjoyable and I’ve often wondered how this magic came to be. The adoration and enthusiasm of the cellist is a thing to behold. I share the stars in her eyes. Thank you for the peek behind the curtain. 💕
Taro has been one of my favorite songs for years. When I'm bored at work, I'll write out the lyrics from memory, it's so beautiful. This is the first time I've seen it live like this though!
J'ai pleuré instantanément en écoutant Taro. C'est magnifiquement chanté, le doux du ton tranchant avec la dureté des paroles. Toutes mes félicitations Alt-J, vous êtes géniaux.
pleader is a good one too. The only song I found hard to like was hit me like that snare..sounds like raging hormonal teens playing music for the first time after getting high.. I was just not feeling that vibe..lol
Jose Triana last night at their concert at the O2 they played taro halfway through and then finished with fitzpleasure which actually fitted quite well too!
This intro song...I keep wanting to revisit. It's intoxicating, Relaxer indeed. I love Alt-J. These guys are so good live. The cellist seemed to really dig the mood of the song as it developed too, that is fun to watch, so chill.
This was pure magic. I was completely captivated. I've always loved how your music and artistry keep me guessing. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gifts with the world.
This was wonderful to listen through. When they said they were going to play a song from their first album and said "Taro," I couldn't remember which one it was. Then they started playing it and I was immediately whisked back to the Summer of 2013 and filled with a million memories. Losing my job, almost killing myself, calling my ex in tears who came to help me and he hugged and then kissed me and said, "I don't want a relationship," moving into a dirty apartment with a wonderful lady where we never turned on the AC and always had the windows open to the almost dirty kind of downtown area. 85 degrees at home always. Working a bunch of different oddball jobs on campus. Taking calculus based physics. Ex saying he adored me, then saying we have to stop because he's going on a date, coming back and saying he didn't realize how much he cared for me and how wonderful I was. Going over to his place, him hiding me from his roommates at first. Me becoming obsessed with cleaning and plants as a form of control and fostering growth in something else when I couldn't foster it in myself. Getting into yoga, always showing up to class smelling of bleach after scrubbing my bathroom for two hours and with dirt under my fingernails from taking care of my plants. As soon as they started playing Taro when I listened through today, I fell to my knees and started ugly crying. Crazy what music can do to you. Kind of a strange tmi story, but wanted to share it. Now I work a stable corporate job, live in a nice apartment, have a normal boyfriend, live a simple normal life. Interesting to think back on the more strange times and realize, "I lived that."
I know that you posted this story a while ago but I just want to thank you for doing so. For some reason your story resonated with me. I'm glad things are better for you now.
It's been a year since you wrote that comment, we don't know each other, we live in completely opposite countries (Venezuela says hi); nevertheless, I feel strongly related to your personal story. I am myself going through some stuff, and it's always reassuring to find people being this vulnerable and open to show others that you can keep moving forward, that you can come out successful at the end. Hope you're doing well, and hope to, one day, look back the same way as you and say "I lived that, came out victorious". Good vibes to you, bless!

I was so bummed that they canceled their tour stop in Milwaukee, WI due to logistical issues, but decided at the last minute to play an acoustic set at a very small venue this Friday, March 18th for $35, I couldn't be happier!
A wonderful friend of mine, from many years ago, first introduced me to alt-j and what an incredible experience it has been...I've been following their music ever since and they never disappoint...a truly magnificent, quirky and immensely talented band. Love them and this.

As if I wasn't already completely in love with Joe Newman, seeing him blush after missing a note near the end of Taro just melted my whole entire heart.
Alt J is one of my favourite bands of all time, if not my favourite, and Taro one of my favourite songs. There's just a uniqueness to their music, I don't think anyone could ever recreate their sound. Their music is just so emotive, you could go on for hours and not pick up a single lyric but the instrumentals behind it all are just carrying your mind and soul as if you're in a cloud floating about on these waves of sound, and other times you barely pick up the instrumentals but the lyrics are telling the most beautiful story so simply yet with so much depth, and on the days when you absorb the lyrics and the instrumentals all together as one it's like you're being levelled up to another realm of understanding, every lyric, every beat, every strum of a guitar just flutters through your veins and ripples over your skin and a story unlike anything really is heard and understood and it shows itself so clearly it's like you're watching it unfold right in your eyes. I really love everything Alt J does.a
