Such a shame the guitar is out of tune at the beginning, hence his expression and then retune quickly once the keys kick in at 1:30. absolutely love the new album!
I love it when they reminisce on the KEXP show when they played the entire first album. It's hard to believe it's nearly 10 years, that performance is absolutely special and I come back to it regularly. So glad to hear the new material and see them still going strong.
There is something very nostalgic about this to me. I've put these KEXP Alt-J sets on to jam out to while I clean my home or get through emails for years. I love them! Of course, with it being a few years since the last one, I've completely rinsed the other videos. To see this band blossom and continue thriving, but always returning to KEXP with the same gentleman interviewing them makes my heart so full. I love it!
Jeeze. That performance of Chicago was beautiful. So interesting to hear them do it without the drums. However, I'd love to have seen Thom on here. I understand not having him on some of the smaller radio stations, but for a KEXP set? Come on! Still such a treat.
Saw them for the 3rd time in Chicago this year.. I was the one wearing the "Alabama Hat" in the front row. What an Epic show!! this band is revolutionary & only individuals with good taste in music know of them
From start to finish, I loved, loved, loved this...I'm going to add this new to all the previous altj and just endulge. The music puts me in another place everytime. Thank you for your extreme talents and sharing them.
Nice, was just listening to Hunger of the Pine yesterday, reminding my teens how they used to think it was “Hunk of porcupine” and “I’m a female gerbil” instead of “I’m a female rebel.”
this is fine, but this arrangement would work better on nearly any of the other tracks from the album. happier when youre gone, get better and Philadelphia wouldve been better showcases but i guess since theyre not singles. also matilda wouldve been a better callback with a deeper cut.
To be quite honest… this is just really one of their worst performances of all time. You can clearly see that they keep losing track of the tempo and something just seems off about them. I have a feeling if the drummer would’ve been there to hold up “backbone” for lack of better words, it could’ve been a great performance. So, what I’m saying basically is that they seem sort of lost because their drummer is missing and they probably didn’t have much time to rehearse. You hear them asking each other which song to play even. That says it all. This wasn’t planned at all and they were put on the spot. I could be wrong, but it just sounds like a last minute thing.
U&Me - 0:35
Hard Drive Gold - 3:56
Chicago - 6:58
Tessellate - 9:55
Thanks

man changed them strings and didnt check the tension and tunning prior to the gig; nothing lost, just another quality of live performance

This arrangement of Tesselate is so good! 😭

Still such a treat.
Would never expect that was the man with that voice.
This is a favorite you tube alt j video. Gus and Joe compliment each other so well.
OMG. I sub this channel for the Alt J performance 9 years ago, their music taste as good as before T.T
Me too! 🙌
Same here brooooo
I didn't even notice the slip up at first, I like that, during u & me😊

Good god. my boy has been eating more cake than me.
They are so awkward and I love it
Saudades desses meninos! Eu no auge dos 42 anos apaixonada de novo ❤️💘🇧🇷

Where is Thom Sonny-Green? In need of the syncopated drums
this performance is hard-drive gold!!
god that voice is unreal
Kevin Cole is one of the best interviewers there are! Love it!
I just saw them live in Toronto a few days ago, it was amazing I love them so much!! I've had Matilda stuck in my head for days. They're SO GOOD live
From Toronto as well.
Where were they performing?
Damn, can't believe I missed it!! T.T
@@shernerdaz yeah they performed on the 17th! I really want to see them live again, they were amazing. really worth it
Love that song! I got a tattoo I designed of a grenade pin with a tag on it that says “from: Mathilda”
they both geniuses and making an art
A most excellent band 😊❤️🌹

@Elizabeth Hawkins....lol, love that story! Thanks for sharing.
Aahaha probably one if the misquoted bands ever
They sound like great lyricists
Meu Deus que incrível!!!!!!! Vocês dois são sensacionais!!!! Alt-J no Brasil, pleaseeeeee ❤
I lovee alt j
Damn awesome to see these guys on here
Seeing them for the 10th year anniversary concert In Brixton on the 17th, can’t wait!

What a treat! Thanks KEXP and Alt-J!
Love this band!!
I'm so happy, you're coming in Georgia 🇬🇪 🎉🎉🎉
I was at the concert when they were in town for this recording and it was incredible
Love it! I feel like they are heading in some particular direction musically and i really dig it
Absolutely stunning 💜
The singing the voice is epic really amazing talent and gifted like the great mother blessed them
😭😭😭 i love them so much

I really dig these guys! Great 👍 job!
Alt-J was _definitely_ my pandemic find.
Same here!
@@jamesgreen17 They could use this for promo purposes:
All J* s agree: "Alt-J is the pandemic band for me!"
So good
Gus' vocals have really added something to it
Merci .)
Люблю вас! ❤️
This version of Chicago 🥺
Here before everyone finds this beautiful video 😄
Nice show and interview.
Thanks KEXP!
How did this slide under my radar!!
10 years ago and now don't show any diff
Ready?
{sprong}
Ooops.
Hey Taro!
hope they record the show where they play awesome wave in full and load it to their channel
Still love these guys but they would be a lot better if they got their old bassist back. He contributed so much to their creativity.
AmaZing!!!
Let's gooooo
gus holding it down.
Nice pipes Tamika
So groovy.
Niceee 🔥🔥
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
yay
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
come to Barcelona or Tarragona please
They really haven’t changed much in 10 years
Awesome simplicity - reminds me of the Presidents of the United States.
Where was Thom?
Please tour with pinback
I'm always drinking when he says "you know.."
Peep that Teddy Fresh shirt on Joe!
Δ❤️
Anyone know what guitar he's rocking?
Is it me or this 0:46 look kind of means "oops, out of tune" ? Why wouldn't they stop and take 5s to tune it back ?
Don't these things go out live to air? It's basically a live concert. The show must go on.
am i the only one a bit disappointed by the production/mix of this ?
I’m with you but tbh I think his guitar was pretty out of tune in the first track
first production rule: you can't turn bad tracks into good tracks
@@gabrieledalena9142 hahaha that's true but in this case I think they just haven't figure out how to play these tracks acoustically/with no drums etc
slightly taken aback by the first minutes too
I guess it's purposely stripped back. You want the big show production and album versions gobto the shows
What happened with the rest of the band?
what happened to the drummer?
wheres the drummer these days ?
is your left hand free ?
Um. Where's sonny
The struggles of performing live, the guitar out of tune in the first 2 minutes and singing out of tune around minute 6
Too much chat
Im going to see them live in july, I hope to get something better than this haha
Full band I hope
They're soooo British lols
Can't help but feel like they aren't feeling the music anymore
Not nice. How about you walk a mile in their shoes instead of judging.
@@jwinter1123 I'm an artist too. Sometimes you're just burnt out. Part of the process
@@user-jz6tb8fx8s
Fair enough. I’m a biologist and may not understand the process. Just always appreciated the band.
Adam Sandler
this vocal can't be Joe Newman is it?
Yes, he is…
@@jimmyadaro brother went through some transformation

I'd like to make a crypto video set to this song.
pffffffffffft
Joe is +40pounds ! What happened ?
😊 did you step in 💩? I would think they would have cleared Away an avenue wide poo free zone to your limousine

Yeah i agree. I saw them live last march and it was great. This performance does not do them justice. 😭
Soft
tfw u peeked in 2013
Love the band, but this time sounds terrible 🤮 / 💔
ya mum sounds terrible too when she got me willy
I disagree
I love Alt-J but close your eyes and Hard Drive Gold could be a Flight of the Conchords song
