+Ingumsky you're doing the lord's work. was listening to cheryl the whole time like a pleb
+Jake Doran You know mate, I like both KEXP an their DJ's (especially Darek) but sometimes all you need is just to jump to some song ;)
Hell yeah. No distractions.
This is the best band that has ever existed.
Nara is the song that really got me into Alt-J. So happy they played it!
that's the last songs (the trilogy) i stoped to listen to... now it's my favorite!
I saw them live a couple weeks ago in a festival here in Argentina and they were awesome, it's impressive how good they sound live, so I don't know what the fuck you're all talking about... these guys are awesome.
Everyone is expecting them to be almost perfect live.... Just because this performance wasn't their best, it's still damn good.
Sucks that these guys are getting judged solely of off this performance (which I thought was pretty nice). I saw them once before with Gwil in the band and was a little worried that they wouldn't be as good live without him. But after seeing them a few days ago in Indianapolis made me change my mind 100%. They were enchanting to say the least. They really sounded better than the studio recordings to me. They've definitely grown more comfortable with their newer music since this recording. Not to mention they were very interactive with the crowd and the light show was amazing. They also stuck around after the show to sign and take pictures, and just chat with those of us who waited. Super cool guys. If you have the chance to see them, definitely take it. You won't regret it.
You gents are so generous with your art. Blessings. Brightness.
I don't know if anyone else is hearing what I just heard (every other freckle) But after about a month of fantasising about how amazing it sounds from the album, literally having it on repeat EVERY day, to hear that live was AWFUL. Why so FLAT?! C'mon guyyyyyyyyyys
KEXP improves the quality of my life. As does Alt-J.
I do understand that people criticize Alt-J about their live performance when they saw it on youtube. But I think it's difference for any band to perform with and without their fans in front of them.
I went to watch Alt-J at O2 Academy Glasgow (their first tour for this album, days before This is All Yours actually release). I was a bit worry too at that time because there was a video uploaded on youtube of their live performance of some new songs and it didn't sound well at all. But, actually, turn out that the gig was EPIC !! I think the atmosphere played a big part there.
I was there too, September 18th? Such a great night, they performed brilliantly, such amazing vibes and the light show was unbelievable.
Really great watching this and how refreshing to have an intelligent interviewer who understands music and has done their research.
Really loved Bloodflood Pt. II
I found Waldo...he changed his shirt and plays keyboards for Alt-J.
This is the strangest band I have ever heard but I can't stop listening
Damn these guys are such brilliant writers, more talent in one finger than i'll ever have, it all works for me
It seems like their harmonies are always hit or miss in live shows
I agree w/ most that this particular live performance fell short of expectations. I've seen them live twice and have absolutely enjoyed both performances (most recently 3 weeks ago in Chicago). To me, Joe looks and sounds tired. Refer back to their live performance on KEXP 2 years ago at the Triple Door. THAT was an amazing performance and their vocals were on point. I still
Love them live l can see the singer he is the best
Love Alt-J. Even though the 2nd album is more subtle, and without some of the brilliant hooks of the first, they are still a great ensemble group.
Saw these guys recently at Next Big Thing here in the Tampa Bay area. They were 3rd to last behind Young The Giant and Fall Out Boy. These guys totally owned. Great show as the sun was going down and the full moon was rising. REALLY GREAT SET!!
Thanks for your arts!
Always when i hear to your music, my motivation to make music raises a lot! :)
lo que me produce nada es indescriptible lo juro
I love this video! Both for their great performance and for the great interview! Great all around!
I love alt j
live is always better when it has an edge to it.. alt j definaltly do this.. there still fucking awesome !!!
Phenomenal. PHENOMENAL!🌞
I love the drummer, he is so like" fuck this guys imma play dis shit while stonned"
***** i don't think there is any good reason not to believe the whole band is stoned as hell during every performance haha
Thom has said he doesn't even smoke weed at all anymore
I mean I know what you guys mean when you talk about how they weren't at their strongest concerning live performance this time but I really liked the interview, it was so interesting. And in general, these guys are so cool and nice and they simply have a special way of making music and performing which I love.
On the keyboards:,......GROUCHO MARX!!!!!!!!!!!!
The drummer is godlike
fantastic..
Every other frekle n Left hand free Are Tunes!!
Bloodflood Pt II is too good
Love them
i like Nara so much... wish they could talk more openly about it.
Gonna come out and watch you guys next Friday! So you better rehearse! Haha
God loves us all
Where's Hunger of the Pine?! ... Since they announced their performance on KEXP I waited to hear it...
Awesome!
Thom looks so doped... but I love the way he plays...
is it just me or does the new bassist look like Ben Wyatt from Parks and Rec
kinda
I scrolled down to see if someone has mentioned this! Glad someone else thinks it too!
Awsome. They are getting there. Just give 'em time. Didn't know Ben Wyatt took on the second guitar though :o
Thanks to this video, I now know what drums and electronic drums Thom has.
17:06 to 17:11 his forehead muscles getting relaxed
these guys are great.. Lots of other live vids! this wasnt the best but still "thumbs up"
Pretty Cool
I like how they played here
22:07 poor joe lmao
XDD
lmaooo that nod to gus like "save me"
Lovin' them _pipes_ Chris Pratt!
You can tell in Left Hand Free, Joe is stoned outta his mind.
I love Alt J, but I really don't think they're a "live band." I will absolutely buy every album they put out but will probably pass on their next tour. I've seen them twice now and would prefer to just listen to the studio versions.
for sure! just saw them a few days ago in PA and it was beyond epic...so much better live than the studio albums give credit for. SO AMAZING
Josh Willey That's not what she/he said. DaShrimpBros is saying that they aren't that great live compared to the studio albums. You're saying they are better.
Sarah Carter Ahh my bad haha..just depends how good of a show they played when one sees them. they were amazing that night
Dude. Yes. I just saw them in indianapolis and holy shit were they good. They really suck you into their performance. I think these early studio recordings were when they still weren't well acquainted with their new music because lately they have been absolutely killing it.
Saw them 2 years ago at a festival, and bands aren't always at their best at festivals but they were incredible! Looking forward to May when I see them.
Seems like the joe got his shit together when playing Bloodflood pt 2 lol
Love this band! See them live if you get a chance!
cool guys
why does everyone hate their live performances so much? This isn't too bad, and they've done a lot better, but it's as if most people have seen every show
+Jason Sterle You nailed it ! I couldnt agree anymore
So can we know who the new fourth guy is? That replaced Gwil in these new performances? Is he officially a part of the band now?
22:10 this guy is so baked
Vocals at the begining of Every Other Freckle....guys please sing it ''clean'' ! :)
Quality
Alt-j are a unique band, the drugs help them with there music
All over this!
Love it!
More Cowbell! (Nara)
YUSS
I can't believe how bad they sound... Alt J is one of my favorite bands, and i watched them live a couple of months ago, but i don't know what they did because they were amazing and waaaay better than they were in this video... Still one of my favrotie bands, and I'm glad they're improving (?) I guess (?)
Anyone else feel like they are just barely holding it together?
I have the feeling that three out of four are slightly stoned.
Neil Sampat on the keybord.. :)
love Alt-J and I understand they still need time to warm these songs up but so far all their live performances from the new album have fallen extremely flat for me....usually KEXP is where my favourite bands shine but in this particular instance....nah. I think this album is good but lesser work than An Awesome Wave and I think the live performances thus far are extremely lacking. At this point Alt-J has sort of lost my attention...I'll revisit at some point down the road
Lmfao gus is hilarious!!! love him!
а где басист прошлый?… там вроде говорили про него.. м? 🤔
Love this band. Not going to lie I miss Gwil tho
time to buy the second Vynile! :D
Ok, I don't have time to watch this whole thing at the moment, but did she ask them/did it get mentioned that Gwil, the bassist left the band ? .... seems like it changed their sound quite a lot..... www.xfm.co.uk/artists/alt-j/news/gwil-leaving-helped-us-define-ourselves/
FF to 6:00.
9:22 he's so baked lol
🌹🌹🌹
9:22 what they are laughing at? lol
They don’t like that song lol 😂
Boss
Anyone else hear the metronome for Left Hand Free? Fuck off with that...
what metronome, it's the drummer
Am'I just The only one who seeing Its something wrong inside this band?🤔 I Love you guys but are you really happy with what you are doing? 💙
the drummer is quite well, i am sad for him after this performance.
joe laughing during left hand free is me as a vocalist
Lol it all make sense now their like hell yeah legal weed we can get our creativity on... oh right american weed... shit... too stoned to perform lol I’ve watched so many of their live videos and they have never acted this awkward in any of them lol 😂
Is joe high as hell? Maybe explains flat vocals and stuttery interview
Something sure seems a bit off... I don't know, but it seems like tension to me. Dynamics and the prospect of touring may be wearing on them?
Possibly, from what ive seen of the uk tour they did earlier this month they were absolutely on point so its just really strange how they always seem a bit iffy in a 'session' kind of setting like this
Most probably. One of the them wrote on reddit that they're mostly all high as hell for their shows. :D
That explains it too :D
CHUPACABRA OK... now I get it why Joe and Gus are so flat every now and then .. well, I hope they're having fun and keep releasing albums
An Awesome Wave is one of my most cherished deputising albums, and I think This Is All Yours is fantastically unique. Love them both. However it pains me to say their sound really, really does not transfer to the stage. Seriously poor live act. I'm sad for them mind, they could be so much bigger. Still though, they'll always sound incredible in my car.
His lyric writing reminds me a lot of Frank Black.
Where are the other two? What have i missed?
one left, pretty sure the other one (drummer) just grew his hair
FF to 6:00 to hear about Gwil.
Guy at 2:10 trying to be a badass on a maraca
Fuck off knob 'ed
They just need to turn up the bass amp.
this is why being on drugs are bad for "live" situations. Everyone except the keyboard player is ripped out of their minds from the looks of it. Seems like life on the road/touring is taking quite a toll on them, lead singer especially.
first two songs.. horrible, the last two were just perfect. i want these guys to sound better!
wow. am i the only one thing that everything sounds terribly out of tune one the first song?
All songs up until Nara were off a bit... Mainly the vocals were lacking, but Nara was on point for the most part except for one note. A bit disappointed though...
something's not right...
What's got into Thom all of a sudden with those tatoos and that pale look...?
guess
Nicoyutub
Well of course drugs were involved, but you could see from their interviews that drugs were always a part of their life.
different drugs do different things tho. I hope he's not, but he looks like he's been getting into heroin.
Nicoyutub
God I hope not.
Nicoyutub that's a pretty big assumption... sure you could be right, but it could be many things. i'd say he's more likely using pain killers (opiates) as opposed to heroin. but it could simply just be malnutrition and stress from travelling, or maybe coke. believe it or not, but heroin doesn't really show on someone nearly as much as other drugs. if you're experiencing withdrawals or are close to withdrawaling, that's a different story, but if you have the money to keep up a heroin habit, it's not gonna show in the same way that a coke habit does, or even worse; meth.
Louis Theroux on the keys...
uh... that guitar doesn't support that tunning! (on every other freckle)
Compared to their previous performances, this is a pretty disappointing effort.
Hopefully this was just a hiccup and not a sign of things to come.
Cmon guys!!
actually their first live performance here in kexp is much better than this.
Man their harmonics are off key a little too much...
i pass.......
The drummer doesn't use symbols, why does no one notice this. Ridiculous.
+racerx3065 It's because they started the band in college playing in their dorms, so cymbals were too loud and he just hasn't used them since
