    Very helpful. I just replaced the belt on our 2006 MDX. Took about 20 minutes, with about 15 of those trying to get the belt back on. Use a 14mm socket for the tensioner. Helps to have a breaker bar to extend the ratchet handle to get more leverage. And small hands help. :) I bought the belt on Amazon. The DIY saved me $100-200. Thank you.

      Right I took my mdx for airbag recall to the dealer and they said I needed my belt replaced. He said $100 for the belt $100 for labor 🤦

    One thing I found that oftimes makes remounting the belt a little easier. Thread the belt around all of the proper pulleys EXCEPT the alternator pulley on top. Wrench the tensioner and then work the belt over the alternator pulley. This way you are not struggling with both arms in the recesses of the engine compartment.

    Try to get a continental elite belt (fomerly called "gatorback")
    They usually are the choice for slightly offset pulley setups if the belt isn't tracking straight

    I had a hard time with the serpentine belt. DON'T USE A 14MM DEEP SOCKET for the tensioner. When I used the deep socket, it interfered with the motor mount and didn't give enough slack to loop the belt over the tensioner.

    What size of wrench you used?

    • @ricebike
      @ricebike Год назад +1

      it's 14mm. but you can also rent a belt tensioner tool that's narrow to reach in there and have longer handle to easily slip the belt on/off

    I have. None make noise, they all spin freely. What gets me is that it doesn't make the sound for a week or so after the repair. Took it to Honda yesterday, they said its just the belt. I'll try buying a Honda belt and see if that really makes the difference. Gates is a solid company, I'm not sure that is the issue.

    Mines have two belts, this is not the one, it's the tension pulley I need help with and all these videos dont show how to do it on a 2001 Acura mdx

    • @ricebike
      @ricebike Год назад +1

      I agree. 2001 and 2002 models of this first generation MDX has a 2 belt system. Power steering adjustment bolt on the pump mount and it's 4 rib 438-440 length. A spring tensioner is for the alternator and air conditioning compressor is for the other belt 6 rib and 468-470 length

    • @ricebike
      @ricebike Год назад

      The 2nd power steering belt has a more traditional adjustment bolt.. must loosen the lock nut first, then adjust it all the way down until the slack is enough to slip it off the pulley

    I've replaced the tensioner (gates brand) and serp belt on my 06 pilot 2wd twice now, and I am still getting a chirping sound from the belt. It will go away for a week or two and then slowly come back. Any ideas on what to do?

      +2CarPros On the 2002 model that I own there is 2...I'm not questioning your expert, but merely searching for a solution. Again I have two...one to power steering and another to the other accessories

      I dint see one on this car, but its not to say there might be on similar models or design changes on other years.

    • @bluor3713
      @bluor3713 2 года назад +1

      You are correct, there's two belts for the 01-02 models. To remove the power steering belt, you have to remove the side engine mount bracket after you've supported the weight of the engine from under the car. I think the engine mount has 2 or 3 bolts if I remember correctly. The belt should now be easy to remove. This info may help others reading an old thread.
