    Game changer for older ones.... First do a 3x3 trans flush ( drain, fill, run for 15 min, repeat 2 more times on last add quart of Lucas trans fluid and top off. I thought mine was done, but after doing this all the trans issues were resolved 100% ( did at 173k now 214k) Next, bought a suspension bushing kit from ebay ( all bushings, tie-rods, control arms, drop links etc.. ( $185 for kit) and replaced shock/struts with KYB Excel-G's. The installation of all the parts was simple. Now it drives like a new SUV. So satisfying..Best deal for a SUV out there. You can buy these cheap because everyone think the trans are bad..

    That power steering whine can sometimes be a worn out “O” ring. I replaced mine in less than ten minutes at the cost of approximately $3. Immediately fixed the issue. Just a heads up for anyone who hears the power steering whining on a cold day. Great video by the way. I’m at 166,000 on my 06, and can easily say it’s been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. 17 mpg is pretty dead on. Did have to replace power steering which I think was about $400. And the stereo had to be replaced. It used to have a pretty bad oil leak, but has weirdly improved alot in the last 6 months. It no longer needs topped off between oil changes.
    We average 15.9 mpg. Timing chain was only $800 which was better than had feared. We keep it fairly well maintained, but it definitely has been neglected and abused at times too.

      Brakes for me were such a pain since Honda feels the need to use rotor screws to keep it in place. Those screws are 100% unnecessary and almost always rust. I had to use an impact screwdriver and propane torch on them. Actually had one stripped and deform so bad I had to use an Oxy-Acetylene torch and melt it out. I will never use rotor screws on any of my vehicles. Straight to the trash lol

    in late 2019, I bought a 2002 MDX.. 3.5L vtec, AWD, moon roof, 3 rows of tan leather seats, heated seats and heated mirrors, COLD ac, virtually new tires/ 90% tread or better. NOTHING leaks on this thing at all. No rust, No dents... even has after market stereo/ cd player-- a Clarion or Alpine or Orion or Aiwa-- one of those exotic names (I forget at the moment). It had 155k miles -- and I got it for $1700 cash. lol... It still makes me happy to this day that I got it for so cheap. it's an incredible car-- the only thing: I wish it was a manual transmission; but otherwise, man what a Find. I really love this thing. I'm not sure if it has ever had a timing belt change though, so it's something that's on the list to get to soon enough. But man do I love this car. incredible vehicle, and everyone today is trying to copy it's design. They did it right all the way back then-- and now it's all you can find anymore. Crossovers are all that is being built anymore, because it's just that flawless of a design...............
    Before that I had a 97 Isuzu Rodeo (which is the same as a honda passport), 5spd 4x4. 3.2L v6 ... and I could talk all day about that thing and how great it is. I still have it, 320k miles, and it finally needs a timing belt. I like it even better than the MDX, because it's a manual and a true 4x4, with 4L and also with a front axle, rather than IFS... I took that thing off roading 100 times and it never failed me and never broke anything. It's fairly beat up now because of the trails, but It's a solid drivetrain... if I could get the Rodeo drivetrain and axles-- into the Luxury MDX, that would be heaven.

      in late 2019, I bought a 2002 MDX..

    The 1st gen mdx is "almost" the perfect suv of its time. My only wish is if 1st and 2nd gears were a little shorter to accommodate a higher tow rating. 3500lbs is barely enough to tow a trailer and crx lol.

    • @calholli
      @calholli 2 года назад

      I wish it was a manual transmission.. then it would be a dream car. I have a 2002. I towed a full size 2n ford tractor on a 16' utility trailer with mine.. It didn't have any issues towing it at all. but it was really squatting the rear springs-- almost too far. The tractor is 3k lbs and the trailer is 1600 lbs... So that's 4600-- and did it just fine. (wouldn't reccomend. lol).. I don't really think the engine or brakes are inadequate for towing more than 3500lbs.. I think it just has a low tongue weight rating. It doesn't take much for the rear springs to squat down completely. If you could upgrade to stiffer springs in the rear or add airbags-- I think the engine is MORE than powerful enough to tow 5k lbs with ease..... (but then again, I'm not sure if the diffs are really strong enough-- since it has clutches and CV shafts, rather than a full axle-- like a truck)..... I know my 97 Isuzu Rodeo 5spd could tow 5k.. and My girls 2010 Dodge nitro can tow 5K lbs.. but they both have standard axles like a pickup.
