For anyone wanting a J35 Magnesium IM for your V6 that does not have those actuators on the plenum, get the intake off of a 2006 Pilot with the J35A9 engine. The gasket set is about the same price but includes two of the metal gaskets due to that engine having the intake spacer (FEL-PRO MS 96410-1). I found this out after the fact. I have a 2005 Pilot EX. I wasn't sure if the 2006 IM was magnesium until I went on an Accord forum. I sourced mine from a 2006 Odyssey EX (IM with IAT) & 2008 (Top Plenum Plate without butterfly valve assembly) Odyssey EX-L. I had to source mine that way because the 2006 Odyssey had the IAT port, but the wrong Plenum top plate for my engine. The 2008 Odyssey had the correct top plenum plate, without butterfly valve assembly, but the intake was missing the IAT port; that engine uses the MAF for intake temperature from what I read online. If I could do this again, I would source an IM from a 2006 Pilot with a J35A9 engine. The same MY Pilot with the J35Z1 has an aluminum cast IM. If you're getting a gasket set for the IM shown in the video, go with the FEL-PRO MS 96409-3. It includes two of the metal gaskets that go between the spacer and IM to the lower manifold runners. The MAHLE MS19700 is a good alternative for similar price on Amazon, BUT it only includes one of the metal gaskets. Which brand you buy depends if your application has the intake spacer from the Pilot or MDX. Hope this helps, since I saw many comments asking questions about these details. I hope my experience can help some of you buy the correct parts/gasket kit. I also recommend if you're doing this. Also do a Valve Adjustment and Valve Cover gaskets to replace all those old gaskets in one go.

That's an aluminum intake manifold. I have the same one on my pilot, I used others too but this one works the best all around. I also have thermal spacers under the manifold and on the throttle body with cold air intake with the filter breathing in fresh air from the factory intake that's under the battery. There's two versions on intakes manifolds, with and without the butterfly. The pilot doesn't use the butterfly but I use the manifolds that do have the butterfly. I just removed the butterfly valve and you can also switch it and change the power curve and what not. Pretty great mod actually, picks up quite a bit power, it's actually fast now.
I know you didn’t say they did but just as an fyi to others watching the j37 MDX doesn’t have the intake spacer. I’m guessing they used the extra displacement for the torque bump instead of longer runners by using the spacer.

Not sure what intake manifold the 07 has currently. Of the 07 has a larger volume intake manifold then I don’t think so but if it’s not very large or volume then probably would. Have to compare them
hi i hope you are well. i have mdx with factory engine im from Australia . what the best upgrade for gain power ? some said put j37 header + j37 throttle and spacer from p2r . any video update for ur MDX ?
You should do an experiment.. get a huge 70mm+ Throttle Body and have get a donor plenum/intake manifold.. have a shop port match it to the throttle body.. make a custom spacer if needed.. pretty sure you’ll gain more power, the V6 engines need as much air
From what I remember they were close or around the same. It would be ideal to put a P2R throttle adapter and run a J37 throttle but i decided just to use what I have.

Keep in mind I don’t start counting until the speedometer starts moving. & I’d love to see whether or not if it’s possible to swap out either the Honda/Acura 6-Speed auto or the 10-Speed auto. The first 0-60 run was at 8.54sec to 60mph.
Wait. So I need to get a Manfold from the junk yard, a 3.7 vs my 3.5 in my 2006 Acura MDX? Can you please clarify what part I need to get at the Junk Yard?
Mpg has improved from its 14.7 to 19 so far in town driving has improved. If I would stop getting on it then it might be better than that. Definitely the highway mpg has improved
@@BLAZEPSI no problem and one thing to keep in mind is 91-93 octane fuel is recommended for these if you use anything else the MPH will suffer. Doing a good tune up helps too! I’m not 100% sure but the j37 intake manifold is a better option for the j35 accord and the j35 mini van. The intake from the mini van is the same as the accord so a upgrade would be the j37 throttle and manifold
It should be because the bolt pattern and bolt length and all are the same for the 03 mdx and the 04 pilot. The throttle bolt pattern for the 04 pilot might be different though so not 100% sure
I know the mdx has one already I wasn’t sure how thick the stock is compared to the pr2. And also it says it’s made to not get heat soak so wasn’t sure if it would be worth it to swap the stock one out.

Thanks for sharing. I don't have much experience with this but I am mechanically inclined and a rather quick study. I have the Honda crosstour with the 3.5V6...my 0-60 is the same as your first run...about 9-10 seconds. Yours and mine. Mine is AWD too Now I know about the AWD FUSE! SO THATS WHY THEY ARE SLOW OFF THE LINE...AT SPEED THE CROSSTOUR IS FAST. SO FAR, HIGHEST IVE DONE IS 142 MPH AWD! V RATED TIRES. So yours also has the manifold spacer on it? Interesting. I'm debating on the same spacer. 1.5" tall. Like yours. Looking at just using hood spacers for clearance, if needed. Some say just take off the plastic top cover and it fits then. Learned a lot. What motor is your acura and year? J32 series?
The 09 mdx is a little different I believe as far as intake design on the runners but you can get your intake manifold and runners ported and do some exhaust mods and it will help a lot and won’t tear anything up. I will have a video coming out on SMP performance ported runners and more info will be in that video.
Great video. I didn't hear if your wife's MDX is 2001-2002, 2003, or 2004-2006. If you do this on a 2004-2006 with the highest 265 hp, are you likely to get the same gains?
i got a 2004 acura mdx that won't start. cranking over like it wants to start. removed spark plugs and saw it was fouling (with fuel). i removed fuel pump fuse and it started then cut off. reinstall fuse and won't start. anybody here have any idea what's going on?
I had main relay go out on our pilot with similar issues and the pilot and mdx are almost the exact same when it comes to engines/transmission and electrical. I would check ecu fuse then find the main relay
Do you think the second Gen MDX with the j37 intake manifold and throttle body would work on your wife’s MDX? It’s the biggest oem throttle body and intake manifold. I used the j37 throttle body on my 9th Gen Si and noticed a huge difference
It’s a slightly larger volume and smoother intake channels inside. I was experimenting with the TL when I discovered this. The j37 manifold would be the best option but that’s a expensive manifold and throttle but they are the largest manifolds for the J series when going with a OEM option.

Thank you 🙏🏻 definitely more to come.
Stop it bro; you're making me wanna sneak one of these into my wife's Pilot 🤭🤣
Haha do it!
Do you think if you do that to the Pilot 2007 it will make run faster
Not sure what intake manifold the 07 has currently. Of the 07 has a larger volume intake manifold then I don’t think so but if it’s not very large or volume then probably would. Have to compare them
if i were to remove my 4wd fuse would i be able to do burnouts or even do small drifts? or is the 4wd always on?
It’s fwd until it needs to be 4wd. Unless you put it in a specific gear.
It’s all wheel drive and it’s always on
Thats nice bro. Good shit, man! 🎉
hi i hope you are well. i have mdx with factory engine im from Australia . what the best upgrade for gain power ? some said put j37 header + j37 throttle and spacer from p2r . any video update for ur MDX ?
You should do an experiment.. get a huge 70mm+ Throttle Body and have get a donor plenum/intake manifold.. have a shop port match it to the throttle body.. make a custom spacer if needed.. pretty sure you’ll gain more power, the V6 engines need as much air
no you'll change the AFR and lean it out.
Acura tech here, it won’t lean out. Honda pcm will compensate.
Biggest issue would be the different connector styles for the j37 and j35a5 throttle body
Is there a difference in diameter of the throttle body for the TL 3.2 throttle body and the Honda Odyssey 3.5?
From what I remember they were close or around the same. It would be ideal to put a P2R throttle adapter and run a J37 throttle but i decided just to use what I have.
I love this video. Im not mechanically inclined but I have a 2001 mdx. You mentioned 06-07/2010 odyssey. Which I stake manifold do I need to get? Thanks
Any 3.2 L manifold. Look at TL or accord
I have a 2011 accord with a j35z2 3.5L. Do you think I could swap out my stock manifold with a manifold from the 3.7L j37?
Yes you can
Idk about the throttle body tho
But the second run is a massive improvement of 6.34sec 0-60mph! Keep in mind I don’t start counting until the speedometer starts moving. & I’d love to see whether or not if it’s possible to swap out either the Honda/Acura 6-Speed auto or the 10-Speed auto. The first 0-60 run was at 8.54sec to 60mph.
Good 👍 it’s runs faster
Indeed
Great video which fuse is the awd fuse, I’ll like to put mines on a Manuel switch
That’s smart haha i think it’s the vcm fuse or something like that. I know where it is just can’t remember what it’s called
Wait. So I need to get a Manfold from the junk yard, a 3.7 vs my 3.5 in my 2006 Acura MDX? Can you please clarify what part I need to get at the Junk Yard?
Do you think I can do this to my J30A4?
I think the j30a4 has a decent manifold. I recommend the j37 intake manifold for that engine. That will make a big difference
The j35 intake is an upgrade for your j30. Bolts right in.
You make me want a lm 04 Odyssey real bad
This Rock!
I will do this.. Hows the MPG?
Thank You for Sharing.
Mpg has improved from its 14.7 to 19 so far in town driving has improved. If I would stop getting on it then it might be better than that. Definitely the highway mpg has improved
@@TexasHondaChannel amazing! Will do this for sure. Thank You!
@@BLAZEPSI no problem and one thing to keep in mind is 91-93 octane fuel is recommended for these if you use anything else the MPH will suffer. Doing a good tune up helps too! Also light acceleration helps big time with mpg and the speed limit as awful as that sounds lol I get really good milage when I baby it.
Will you make a list of all parts you've upgraded?
NEED THIS WITH PART# & VEHICLE YOU GOT THE INTAKE FROM
Awesome video I also have an 03 mdx and I did not know this at all, sadly there are not any good junkyards in my area do you know anywhere online to buy the minivan manifold?
2008-2009 Honda Odyssey in that range is what I got it off. I have more MDX mods coming so stay tuned!
the algorithm brought me here
Happy new year in Dec I just bought a 2007 rdx turbo sh awd.with 110k I'm in Colorado so good for winter. not much on 1st gen rdx upgrades but as all Hondas parts are interchangeable
Hi sr i can make this in accord 2008 v6
I’m not 100% sure but the j37 intake manifold is a better option for the j35 accord and the j35 mini van. The intake from the mini van is the same as the accord so a upgrade would be the j37 throttle and manifold
no CEL? Did you have to relearn idle? I just cleaned my throttle body (and VCM muzzler) and now I'm getting rough/high idle and a p0507 code.
Would this be same process to do on a 04 pilot
It should be because the bolt pattern and bolt length and all are the same for the 03 mdx and the 04 pilot. The throttle bolt pattern for the 04 pilot might be different though so not 100% sure
Would a would a pr2 intake spacer help any? I have a 02 mdx
No since the mdx has a spacer I mentioned it in the video actually lol
It wouldn't hurt. Still need to buy an extra gasket and 1.5" longer mounting bolts. I doubt the spacer works in 1st place.
I know the mdx has one already I wasn’t sure how thick the stock is compared to the pr2. And also it says it’s made to not get heat soak so wasn’t sure if it would be worth it to swap the stock one out.
@@jaytolento1398 p2r is 1/2 the size roughly. Its always a bigger gulp when you floor it. But i dont believe it is a good investment for you. Better to get p2r intake manifold elbows.
Thanks for sharing. I don't have much experience with this but I am mechanically inclined and a rather quick study. Will do this mod as soon as I'm able to get to a junkyard to get the Odyssey manifold. Quick question...can you link to the cluster led's you're using? I put the same color in mine but they flicker. I've pulled them out and rotated in case I had the polarity wrong but they still flicker.
I've got a 2002 MDX that has been sitting for 7 years..... Runs great except some tweaker tried (and failed) to steal the Catalytic converter. my 2002 isn't DBW it has a Cable actuated throttle and cruise control.... would the 06-07 Van intake work for me?
Hey dude can you help me with placing a j37 intake manifold on my 01 acura cl. I see it's a little different than my 3.2 manifold
How your gas mileage my acura mdx 2001 is really bad 18mpg in freeway 10 in the city I been fixing lot things to make it better but don’t I see your screen was 29mpg
Makes two of us 01 also
Texas Honda channel can you post a link to where you got the gaskets set
Oreillys. I didn’t get it online
I bought a project car from San Marcos and it’s a 2011 Honda Accord 2 DOOR coupe EX-L, I want to v8 swap it and convert it to AWD or RWD. Saw a guy build his RSX basically a 7th gen accord coupe to about 1000 HP.
Good luck in san marcos.
I have the Honda crosstour with the 3.5V6...my 0-60 is the same as your first run...about 9-10 seconds. Yours and mine.
Mine is AWD too
Now I know about the AWD FUSE!
J32 series?
hi i have a 2007 what do you think i should do for just cheap maintenance stuff since im no mech but would like to just keep it simple thanks
What you think about the ported lower intake manifold runners
I did another video of them as of now.
Hello I have a 2009 mdx do you know what will get me running 0-60 under 6 seconds without damaging the car too badly??
The 09 mdx is a little different I believe as far as intake design on the runners but you can get your intake manifold and runners ported and do some exhaust mods and it will help a lot and won’t tear anything up. I will have a video coming out on SMP performance ported runners and more info will be in that video.
Great video. I didn't hear if your wife's MDX is 2001-2002, 2003, or 2004-2006.
If you do this on a 2004-2006 with the highest 265 hp, are you likely to get the same gains?
It’s a 2003 mdx I’m not sure on the other years but if it has the j32 style intake manifold like in this video I’m sure you will see some gains.
i got a 2004 acura mdx that won't start. cranking over like it wants to start. removed spark plugs and saw it was fouling (with fuel). i removed fuel pump fuse and it started then cut off. reinstall fuse and won't start. anybody here have any idea what's going on?
I had main relay go out on our pilot with similar issues and the pilot and mdx are almost the exact same when it comes to engines/transmission and electrical. I would check ecu fuse then find the main relay
@@TexasHondaChannel thanks
Crankshaft sensor maybe bad.
How does this translate to a 2007 Honda pilot EXL?
😂
Never did it so not sure.
@@TexasHondaChannel they're the same engine, if I'm not mistaken...
How much the milimeter diameter difference Inter the 2 manifold.?
Do you think the second Gen MDX with the j37 intake manifold and throttle body would work on your wife’s MDX? It’s the biggest oem throttle body and intake manifold. I used the j37 throttle body on my 9th Gen Si and noticed a huge difference
Definitely a better choice but I don’t have one lol
so how is the odesssy intake different? that it improves power?
i also want to know that
It’s a slightly larger volume and smoother intake channels inside. I was experimenting with the TL when I discovered this. The j37 manifold would be the best option but that’s a expensive manifold and throttle but they are the largest manifolds for the J series when going with a OEM option.
@@TexasHondaChannel thought people say J35y manifold is better than the J37 someone needs to dyno both one day lol
@@robertalicea5585 yes that’s right I did forget about that one thanks for correcting me! I would love to get one!
I’m only getting 13.5 mpg on my 04 MDX 😢
We use to get 14.7 in town driving easy on it. That went up to 19 something. Use the 91-93 octane as it recommends and it does help mpg.
Guys…tbh get the J37A2 or A4 manifolds. They wider so more airflow.
I have a KB2 Legend with the J37, so I have no options.
I didn't hear you say why you did the valve cover gaskets. Not because of the swap of the manifold right? They were leaking?
Yea they were leaking. I thought I said as to why lol
I have a 2003 Honda Pilot awd this intake manifold work whit my engine?
Not if it’s cable driven throttle body as far as I know:
Ok thanks, by the way awesome work whit your old Pilot whit the super charger I love all your content on the channel
@@abelcatalan33 thanks i loved that pilot. Might try buying it back some day. I sold it without the supercharger on it because they didn’t want the charger on it so I sold the supercharger to a fan of the channel so they could supercharge their pilot.
@@abelcatalan33 yes it works with yours use your own throttle body.
@@ac7205 I'm assuming this will work with an 04 using the stock TB?
why does my guage on the left not do what yours does up then down mines seems to go up only at certain times a lot of the time it’s only going up then it drops down i feel like it shouldn t be doing that im no mech though
Just to be clear. You swaped out your 3.5L IM for a 3.7 IM from an Odedssey?
Hi liked ur video I am interested in fixing my emissions or deleting them I do not go thru inspections but I've hit codes for low flow in emissions anyways what has suffered is my gas mileage dropping u have any advice
🤔 I didn't see a Kazda in the background
It’s there just parked at the street in this video. No one wants to buy it lol 😂
Hey I have a 3.2 TL. I was about to swap a 3.5 and do intake spacer. I heard certain models mdx come with intake spacer and it’s better to take that then order p2r for a lot more. And truth that the 3.5 intake spacers come with certain mdx’s
Nvm you answered my question as I kept watching 😊
Do you have the exact instructionns and exactly what to get. I have a 2006 MDX.
How do you tune the first gen mdx ive looked at hondata and i just didnt see anything from them
