I can almost hear Ian's heavy breathing in the background...
Oh, so that's what that was.
Haha!
Horny Ian
The good old days of "Forgotten Bergmanns".
I really miss the month of Bergmann :-(
halp im getting flashbacks to the Month of Nothing But Bergmanns on Forgotten Weapons
Bergman month was best month.
I had to force myself to come out from hiding under my bed the flashbacks were so bad.
Year of bergmans for C&R
But that period was awesome. I could follow along a sequence of delvolpments. Building on the previous days episode.
Just ride the wave, man. It's gonna get groovy :P
Ian: "I had an infamous month of Bergmanns."
Othias: "Alright, hold my sweet tea y'all."
I'm out of the loop, what's the reference this gang's making to? Which episode(s) of Forgotten Weapons specifically?
@@ronaldcarrier6620 Thank you very much!
@@proCaylak 4 years ago Ian got his hands on a rather comprehensive collection of Bergmann guns, which he put out in consecutive order. For a lot of people it was too repetitive and Ian still references the "Month of Bergmanns" on occasion since it became a bit of a meme.
Edit: nvm, the relevant playlist has already been linked.
*Forgotten Bergmann´s: The Movie*
@@DiggingForFacts Yeah, seems his takeaway from that was to space out content on a single topic like that across longer time with other content interspersed.
Bergmanns have that wonderful aesthetic of Steampunk -> Dieselpunk; traditional pistol curves transitioning into more modern blocks, whilst still looking excellent.
C96: who are you?
1910: I'm you, but sexier
Yc9:
Same thought here:
A C96 which makes so much more sense
not even close c96 > this lil thingie
@@garnix5612 but with 4 less rounds.
Tec9 : my ancestors :^)
C&Rsenal: Uploads a movie length video about Bergmann 1910
Ian: Happy noises!
I haven't watched a movie in years... yet I regularly watch Othias do movie length videos on guns... which I also don't own. O_o
I like how the mandalorian uses the bergmann design.
A shame that the early Bergmann curved styling didn't last. It's beautiful.
honestly
Functionality and practicality aside, all of the Bergmann's are some of the coolest _looking_ handguns ever to exist.
The Bergmann is such a marvel of old world craftsmanship.
Seriously.
Dumb simp
This is the way. But like, a later version of the way.
As previously seen on Forgotten Bergmanns: Now for the long version!
There should have been a Schnellfeuer version with an extended magazine. And it should have been in Firefly. And Mae would have to shoot. There I said it. Algorithm satisfied.
Shiny.
Firefly should be watched before Serenity. I did it the other way and felt...corrupted.
why does almost everyone mention "for the algorithm"? does anyone force this gang to type some dadgum comment at gunpoint?
Firefly was a great show. Confederates in space!
@@fshn4x4 I caught the last episode first then it was cancelled. A few years later I bought the DVDs and finally watched and enjoyed it.👍
*"A more elegant weapon, for a more civilized age."*
@greg schweng you OK my dude?
@@SandrasSpicySpanishSalami I didn't expect such an answer xdd
@greg schweng a sharp good size blade is best for that if it’s personal, but yes for defense a firearm is better depending on distance. Even in predator mode a good sharp blade is still the best it’s always more personal and savage which is why it’s the number one killing method around the world. Killing someone with a gun is cowardly unless it’s self defense.
@greg schweng Yes the primary purpose of a handgun is for self defence. But there´s so much more:
Taking a handgun to the range is often for practicing self defence. BUT it´s not only for that, it can be a pure sport. Think of it as a fun sport like maybe billiard or dart. Have you ever been on a range or out in a remote area matching yourself with your friends shooting paper or steel targets? Have you ever watched biathlon were people do nordic skiing and shooting as an olympic sport?
It can be a secondary hunting tool for killing wounded game as quickly as possible. In some countries handguns are even legal as a primary hunting gun.
AND I think for most of us watching this channel it is primarily for the historic significance and the technical achievements of the era before and around WWI. The craftmannship that went into this guns has to be appreciated, especially in a time when most new guns are made of polymer and CNC parts.
Yeah, it looks like something the prop department on Star Wars would have had a field day with.
Why does Bergmann look just like Hiram Maxim? It's not just me right?
Oh hey nice to see you here
Good point. Uncanny resemblance.
Everybody looked like that in the 1890s. Police lineups were a nightmare.
Howdy Mr History. How are the tank memes rolling?
Because it's him
This series is seriously the highest quality production I’ve seen on TV or RUclips.
Binge worthy
a new episode just in time for me to put it on and fall asleep five minutes in, then do the same every night for weeks.
Same here. I'll finish watching the full episode by September.
Oh man don't I know it!
Come on, sleep is overrated!
I love the "It's a Trap" series but getting another primer, especially about Bergmann pistols, is like feeding my soul.
I recently found this channel, and I am really enjoying the video's. While they are long, each episode is very interesting. The dry humor is a big plus.
Ah yes, Forgotten Weapons memories from way back when are coming back :3
This is aesthetically my favorite pistol from the turn of the century. Its just cool looking...
I just binged the entire forgotten weapons serise on the Bergmann's and now this??? I am spoiled
Right? I was just rewatching them and the other c and rsenal video on the other bergmann and this comes out right as I finish. What kinda luck is that?
Wow! You're as much into Bergmanns as I thought I was before the Forgotten Weapons marathon.
@@luisnunes2010 I was still into them during and after. I absolutely loved the marathon.
@@hunterbidensschooldumpster9031 I discovered I was into the martial Bergmanns.
Someone needs to be 3D scanning, modeling these historical peices and then publishing the models
I absolutely love the complexity of this story
It's almost convoluted. Certainly twisty.
That is my favorite part of these histories, it shows the interesting twists and turns involved in getting the technology from idea to finished product.
As a survivor of the great Bergman death march 4 years ago, I have to say this did make me twitch a bit.
@TiglathPileser3 but wait! there's more!
If you like to own more than one Bergmann Simplex you have a Bergmann complex! Get psycological help!
What a neat looking bergydoodle
So you made a video on this titled "Not Mine".
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Please do 37 more Bergmann episodes. I hear that's the secret to RUclips gun channel success.
I came here for info on Bergmann pistols, left here with a new conspiracy theory about Mr Ed.
Thanks Othias and crew for that.
Hello I'm Ian Bergmann and on Forgotten Bergmann today we have a new Bergmann Bergmann Bergmann.
The Horror....the horror....
Bergmann is back, baby!
I hear that commenting drives the algorithm to suggest this quality content to others who may not yet know of it.
Ok ok you’ve seen through my clever ruse, I haven’t finished the episode yet.
I think this has to be one of the longest disseambly sections in a gun yet
yeah, it's not easy, but the mechanics to make it a good disassembly are nearly there, excepted for removing the firing pin, you are tool-less and there's but a single screw in the entire gun
also as Othias said it'll probably get get easier away from the camera and once you got familiar with the weapon
@@quentintin1 Just remember not to try a field strip of it, I can just see that section with the sight and spring going very wrong with mud around you.
@@tenofprime that would be true for most firearms, that's why when field stripping in the field, you either try to find a table or dry ground, and if all else fail, lock the gun open and douse that binch in oil
I liked Ian's extended series on the Bergmann. This episode moved quickly through the design evolution and showed how many important designers touched it over its life.
This is one of my favorite episodes in a while and a great demonstration of why I love this show. You told this complicated story with a high density of information while still mentioning those details you are unsure about and while retaining your own personal storytelling flare. The gun is fascinating, and you clearly showcased how it works with a thorough take down that demonstrated your love and respect for the piece. This show really is a passion project and, despite maintaining professional detachment, you bring you passion across.
I just love these things: They look so unique, like a C96 only made at the same time sleek and elegant and (at least looking) robust.
One day I want a replica in something like 10mm (which would probably be the best way I could get a comfortable double stack with my small hands)
"Bergmann"
BAH GAWD KING, THAT'S-THAT'S IAN MCCOLLUM'S MUSIC! GUN JESUS! HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!
Just imagine the theme tune from Jaws playing.
Yeah! He's still re-enacting the bank heist from "Heat"!
gun jesus knows all and sees all firearms lore.......
The Bergmann always seems like it kicks sharper than the Mauser C96. It would be interesting to scale it up a little bit, use modern steels and chamber it for the 10 mm automatic pistol cartridge
10mm is the best mm. I’d buy it
Bergmann developed two 10mm loads, one of which I am sure was submitted with a pistol for british trials in 1901
I will just settle for one in 9x19
Please consult with the latest upload by forgotten weapons first....
I think there was a 45 acp version as a prototype
I can’t believe you got one! SO COOL! You’ve had a lot of early semi-autos on the show and many are kind of common and kind of standard. Not this one! Never even seen one in person.
I'm always happy when I see a new episode. Great quality as always.
"Ian has already done the work" Oh yeah I remember Bergmann Tv, great channel!
This is great, I was just rewatching videos about the Bergmann pistols because I absolutely love their aesthetic, and then *BOOM* y'all's upload is about Bergmann's! Crazy lol
Very thorough, sir. Thank you very much for all the hard work that must go into these videos!
Bergmann's not so forgotten weapon, thanks to a solemn few.
Thanks!
10:15 this is the way
Such a cool design thanks for the awesome video and history and shooting of it, great job as always May and Othias!
I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Im in the hospital with my mother who is in palliative care and you guys really helped me to get through by taking my mind off of things. Again thank you!
Hope your mom starts to feel better soon!
We've been there and on through. Stay strong and know the whole outside world is still there.
That pistol is just super sexy, in a Buck Rogers/Atomic Rockets and bubble space helmets kind of way.
Would a Beskar helmet do at a pinch?
Another amazing episode! Only wish these were more available because they look so darn cool
Now you're talking. I love these guns.
I just finished Mr. Novak's video and came here to learn the history of this pistol and see Bruno's animation.
Always fun to see your videos. I should come here more often.
Great! Good to see recognition for SAM Wapenmagazine! I am a subscribed since 1994, and I still look forward to every new issue!
Possibly the most exciting uploads to see in my sub box.
(I know the comment doesn’t mean much, but I may as well for the algorithm).
engagement comment go brrrrr.
wow you guys like engaging with content in the comments section too? what a coincidence! look at us, just a couple of folks, organically having a conversation that to a machine is indistinguishable from ordinary human behavior
Thanks for the continued great work!
Pretty cool to see pictures of prototype IB-94 blaster pistols.
This is a history channel that just happens to be about gats.
I love it!
I just have watched this one while sleeping because I don't remember half of this lol. Most of these videos have great rewatch potential anyways.
My I can't help but notice the tremendous amount of scattergats you have back there. Bergmann's are neat too.
Love the series--thanks guys!
It’s nice to see an episode on the gun in a family of guns where one of its members were used in The Mandalotian
This presentation (tomb) couldn't be more informative. A long story and evolution to eventually copy ( somewhat😉) the Mauser C96. Now I need a C96. I love the 3-valley 7.62x25 signature crack. I leave my head phones slightly loose so I can enjoy the music. No ear protection and you experience internal bleeding!! Keep up your mature style. Your a fresh presentator in the RUclips world of doomsday plastic gun freaks. My production date is 1951. My active collection all metal CZ & Walther pistols. New Hampshire.✌️🇺🇲
I love how the Bergmann pistols look. I'm not surprised they used one as the model for The Mandalorian.
This is my favourite handgun of all time, thanks for the video!
These are some great videos on firearm history!
Thanks
I'm not sure which was a weirder reach: the Bergmann's trigger or the joke about Mister Ed.
Just teasing; loved the episode.
Yes, I have waited for the this Bergmann 1910-21.
Its 6:16am, i just woke up and saw this,, todays going to be good!
Until I found this channel I never knew the history of early 20th century gun smiths could be so fascinating lol
Awesome episode as always and I see what looks like a bunch of shotguns in the background can’t wait for that series to start
Bergmann 1896 is my favorite pistol!!
Thank you very much!!
Outstanding, once again!
Thank you for sharing your research.
I can see Ian sipping a fine brandy while watching this intently in his most holiest bathrobe, waiting to point out any errors, which he shall quietly point out to Othias via email, albeit in French, and using such words that'd make the saltiest sailor blush.
Best Ian comment so far 😂😂😂
Looking at the Bergmann just seems like such a simple and yet elegant design which is why I am now building my own version of it XD
Gotta get one of those. Thanks for the video!
I came to the comments just for Ian jokes, y’all did not disappoint 🤣
Man, I’m grumpy now that I know that in alternate universe, we could have a hotter loaded .45 Bergmann and 9 mil Largo as the universal standards.
Looks like I am staying up tonight.
I am so looking forward to actually watching this. As soon as the kids are in bed!
Based.
Let the kids watch, geopolitical history through firearms development.
@@tenofprime this show unironicly tautght me a lot about geopolitics of the era.
Ah Yes, The Pistol from Big Jake! (well, one of the lineup somewhere during development...) Why exactly does Mae get to have all the fun shooting? :) Keep up the good work.
because Mae is about the right build/height/size for an average infantry man of the time ...while Othais is about the right build for a bear :)
Well I can't argue with that... The funny part of Mae shooting is she always has the biggest smile on her face... I would too if I got to shoot some of the more exotic firearms in the series.
Thank you for the video.
Varry good demonstration keep up the good work
I'm actually in love with the look of this gun
I love these unloved pistols. Have a support comment!
I do love the look of the M1910's wood grip panels. It reminds me of a nice, classy Scotch bottle label.
I wanted to make a joke about the Bergman looking like a weird Chinese copy of the C96, but Ian’s already got that topic covered
Another excellent video
I am flabbergasted. I have been a firearms enthusiast since childhood and I also grew up in the Aschaffenburg area. Specifically I have worked in Sailauf (which essentially is a village on the outskirts of the Spessart forrest) for 12 years and I never knew that Bergmann originated from there. My mind is blown.
Greetings from Aschaffenburg to you all. Great episode 👍😃
Hi I’ve just now seen this fantastic video. I’m from Denmark, so I took the liberty to email some of our military museums the questions regarding the choice of the Bergmann 1910 and the features it got
That circular trigger cutout is so nice
FORGOTTEN BERGMANNS
As far as I know, the hability of being able to reload by striper clip or by magazine (both) was one of the factors mentioned by the Spanish comision on the adoption of the Bergman.
God of algorithm pacified.
One of your greatest episodes, the Bergmann is really a complicated topic, spot on with some good jokes!
I would say Mannlicher was one of the greatest names throughout the 1890´s regarding rifles, but on the pistol side he was quite compareable to Bergmann/Schmeisser, he only got that moderate success with the M1903/M1905, compareable to Bergmanns spanish and danish contracts.
The Mannlicher M1896 and M1896/03 are maybe compareable in terms of commercial success to the Bergmann Mars, if at all. No match for Mausers C96, Lugers Parabellum or Brownings Colt and F.N. designs.
And the Mannlicher M1894 was more or less a dead end prototype that was offered commercially, similar to all of the Bergmann Models before the Mars (with the exception of the Bergmann Simplex).
The Roth-Steyr and the Steyr 1912 as the other Austrian pistols were the successfull ones, both commercial and technical, the M1912 was even one of the better pistols used in WWII. And while maybe connected to Mannlichers name through the Steyr gun factory, he was not responsible in any way for their design.
Don´t get me wrong, I´m the biggest fan of Mannlicher rifles, especially Mannlicher-Schönauers.
An episode on the Mannlicher M1896 pistol and it´s variants would be great!
Love your style of going deep into the topic with the right appreciation for the era we´re looking at. Love the humor of both of you! Mae, you´re so cute, btw, is your last name really WInchester?
Woooh...bergmans!
That Bergmann is in beautiful condition!
It looks like a revolver _getting intimate_ with a pocket pistol.
I love it.
Ooh, I bet that’s where the Webley-Fosbery came from!
Such a elegant firearm.
This episode is not just long overdue, it is also long, overdue.
Good episode guys, really informative. That gun really looks like the sport pistols that is used in competitions today, could it have been a influence for these?
So on my example I don't have a problem with stripping the magazine after pressing and not holding the release. It's possible the spring is just more worn on mine, it's quite strong regardless.
