Thank you my brother for inviting me once again to be part of one of your incredible videos and to be able to finish Jeremy’s car, thank you once again, we had a lot of fun .🔥🔥🤙
Back in the late 80's early 90's it was common for body shops to do custom 2 tones like this. Prices were cheaper and customers wanted a break from a boring respray. Very retro. Great job.
As a refinish tech, a shop.ower, a paint rep for S&W back in the early days of bc/cc, I applaud your skill and that of your videographer. Makes me feel ancient however...LOL!
Thanks to all the viewers and to Brian especially along with my cousin Niko, my good friend Patrick and my new friend Pedro. Without y'all this wouldn't have happened. Forget the cars, the friendships you forge along the way and the new skills you add to your arsenal are what it is all about
always wondered about Eastwood, great to see someone using it so we get a feel for it . when your doing a car you want to keep for decades and show it etc, you'll want the best non fading stuff you can get .
That turned out really amazing. I don't care for most 2 tone paint jobs, but I definitely think you guys nailed this one. I see a lift kit and some 37's in Jeremy's future. Great job all of you!
That two tone looks great out in the sun where the blue has a chance to show off it's depth. Also, a tip I use for painting around a window without removing it is to peel the window gasket back from the body and hold it away with masking tape. I did that on a windshield and it allowed me to get the paint to go under the window gasket for an invisible tape line.
Excellent series and great color choice! I'm always amazed that I struggle so much with clear coat, most pro painters seem to treat it like an easy "fun" step, but for me its the hardest part. I just laid down some Nason 465 on a bumper for my Jaguar, looked gorgeous 15 minutes after applying and then ended up clouding over on me, full of vapor bubbles... total fail after a lot of hard work and beautiful base application.
Thanks! Humility very high unfortunately... I initially suspected moisture but I have a desiccant can and two traps in the line all bone dry. Baked it in the hot summer sun for a week, no improvement. Also the clearcoat that fell on the masking tape looked perfect, I can't see any bubbles or pinholes in it. I suspect that the high humidity didn't allow the sealer and three base coats to flash off. Pretty sure it's solvent bubbles. High heat also triggered the clearcoat too soon with normal hardener. "Due to covid" I can't find Nason slow hardener. I also added reducer to the Nason clear because the tds specifically called for it... Doesn't imply optional. I'm only using Nason because I can't find anyone within 150 miles of Raleigh who carries my beloved rm diamont dc-92. The supply chain issues make it nearly impossible for a diy guy to stick with a single system right now.
Wet sanded whole thing with 600 by hand. Silky smooth again. I think I'm going to have to lay down sealer to bridge the pinholes. I'll try to get away with two base coats but it's a really tough pearl color to pull off without dusting a third orientation coat on. Then the question is when to attempt clear again. I'm tempted to leave it overnight before clearing.
Looks nice. I think I would have cut the two tones on the body mold lines. Either that or add some pinstriping to set off the color changes. Looks a little odd right now. Well executed anyway. Nice work.
I know this not a restoration..but i have a question.. regarding paint hardware ie bolts and hings brackets etc...looking for tip how to get hinges and bolts paint to cure harder and prevent wrench chew of freash paint..even if let your paint parts cured for days i find the paint bolts with washer can mar up freashly paint part neven weeks later.. being painted....ie when mounting panel or doors on vechical when doing restoration work. Any tips how get hard paint finish like oem paint jobs.
Hello. Big fan here. I have a question. Every painter I've seen, include you sir, attaching additional regulator below spray gun. Since gun itself have regulator knob, why using additional one? One reason I can think of is, want to see the gauge, but I think you actually adjust by how you feel, not the number. Any advice would be great. Thank you.
Bit late to the video.. have a question. You mention a quick coat of clear on the edges. Do you seal in the edges with clear, as in the paint break, then your full clear coats? I didn’t follow that. Sounds like it might help for hanging sags or edge build up? Thank you. Great videos.
I enjoyed watching this build but for some reason the color choice I’m just not really digging on the obs. If it was the older body style. It’ll be more of a match. But all in all good work. Definitely something different.
So do you guys degrease and tack again the base coat before clearing can you even degrease basecoat is it recommended? What if i touch the base coat on accident how do we wipe it to remove the grease. Interesting and informative video btw now i can say i would be confident to do a two tone thanks for sharing!
How much of the white did you actually use? I've got a two tone truck that's similar to yours and I'm trying to determine how much paint I need to buy.
@Paint Society I'm currently working on my fender I got to the Paint stage I Sprayed 4 coats Of Duplicolor G2 Metallic Paint but there where some spots that had heavy runs. Could I sand the paint with 600 grit to even out the paint then spray another coat before clear coat?
In general you want to paint from light colours to dark colours, because darker colours tend to have better opacity. That way you can use less paint, and reduce the buildup of an edge.
A couple years ago I purchased a Paint Gun Set from Eastwood a (Rockwood 10 Piece HVLP Paint Gun Set Item #16293. It has the Aluminum cups which I don't like, is there a plastic cup set-up like you used that will fit this set I have? I don't want to have to spend more money on another paint gun set. Thanks.
Looks good! I was curious if you’ve had any experience with Eastwood’s “Solar Flare” color matching light? I figure you’ve been using quite a few of their products lately, maybe you could try it out and share your thoughts.
I hope one day soon i can start to paint even im mechanic, because this is one of my desire. This paint society pushing me to start my dream to have a paint garage here in Bahrain and at the same time a can start to apply my basic experienced how to paint and soon to become a pro Painter as well. But as of now I dont have enough🤣 money to start a garage with a spray booth, because here in bahrain are not allowed to paint outside in the house, once the police see you they will catch you or any complain from the neighbor🤣😅😥
The bottom trim should be black to match the bumper trim, and a chrome strip if possible. Color combo is pretty good but it looks plain over so much surface area. Yes it would reduce the slate blue area on the bottom but would set it off.
Prob when finishing nice shiny car it shows all the things not done. Trim mostly but don’t forget the wheels. May need new or restore the old ones somehow. I did crx in kbc frkm hok and car looked nice and wheels atrocious cause too much brake dust and couldn’t get the crap off them. Wheels always Important imo
*10:24** You just added misery to the owner while detracting from his net worth lol as the blue will be some 70f warmer in the sun than ambient. Bright White is the coolest color in the Sun, just 16.8f warmer than ambient while Black is the hottest. Gloss VS Matte will add 10f ~ go figure. The darker colors will mean a hotter running engine, more AC use and diminished mpg's. Did I mention an oven (unless he is a reptile) once the customer is forced to or choses to take a camping trip in one and live out of it. Yes I was born on the wrong side of material abundance with little things like that I take to heart.*

Definitely not how I would have broken up the body. It looks weird. Maybe it will look better when the trim is back on but, I was hoping for the traditional two tone these had. Dark color on the bottom where your blue is, and the rest is the main color. It's a very sharp change between them here but it looks great. Lots of work to get many straight tape lines like that.

Agreed. This thing is begging for pinstripes.
Honestly, that bright blue of the masking tape as they were unmasking? That's exactly what it needs.
