Thanks for your video, the information sure helps. I’m about 6. Months from looking at a trawler 36-40’. I’ve been a tractor trailer driver for over 24 years and looking for something new. I would like to see when I’m ready, if you are available for consult if you would be interested in helping me out. Thanks Greg.

Buyers brokers make sense on very expensive boats, where owners have more cash, less time, perhaps where they're using a skipper

I am about 2.5 before I can get retired. I would like to do the loop and so on.. The question is how long before should I start looking for one. I want a trawler with an aft cabin (and so everyone else). Thanks for the videos they are very informative.

Sounds like the dream - You have made your choice of style - start looking as soon as possible and just stick that model and find the best one you can - and the one you can repair they all need repair or have a repair budget if you can’t Regards

what about used great loop boats? seen a few i was looking at but they had alot of engine hours. what's the max engine hours you'd look for when looking at used loop boats?

    • @NoRegretsLifestyle

Depends on N/A or turbo charged. N/A ok to 10k if taken care of, turbo 3500 would be tops for me, and they better have been well maintained with records

I check a few sites every weekend just to get the feel of particular boats I think I like. I'm either 6 months or 2.5 years away from making a purchase just depends on how things go this winter. I'll give you a call for consulting when I get to that point. Wouldn't hire a boat broker though for a variety of reasons.

We'll be laying out cash in about 18 months. Our expectation is the $170k range. Cash buy. Depending on finalized price of boat, we expect to invest about $25k over 4'ish months after the purchase and liveaboard/loop beginning in '26. This kicks off our retirement at age 63 (ish).
Grew up on boats. Dad retired on his 50' Ocean Alexander in '95. I've owned up to Albemarle Sportie and currently just summer fishing on a Whaler in the driveway.
Given the 18 month horizon of purchase agreement. I plan on getting serious about looking to buy about this time next year. Is this reasonable?
October Bahamas vacation on 4.3 Bali Powercat this fall. Like the cat layout; no experience on them; mostly out of my price range.
Most of my experience on 36' GB with single Lehman. Wife's primary requirement is "Open, airy salon." Other than that, my primary concern is engine/genny accessibility. When I need to crawl around, I want it as pain-free as possible. Don't mind the dirty work; just a fat old man at this point and tough to kneel and squirm.
Garnock reviews several boats we like. I'd spend the $270 his listings hover around; but the boat would have to be phenomenally well-appointed with fresh diesels at those numbers.
    Thanks Paul, good stuff.

@@NoRegretsLifestyle Of course it's just facts. It's a fact people rob banks. That dosn't make it right or legal. The same thing happens in real estate and all commission splitting industries. A consultant has zero leverage with a selling broker. A buyer's broker does and works for the interests of a buyer. With a good buyers broker you get 'consulting' for free and a better view of market intelligence and conditions, most of which you don't even have access to. Plus a network and references and access to insurance and mortgage brokers, surveyors, mechanics, etc. There is no need to spend extra money on a consultant. And you are not selling these boats you mention you are not even licensed in Florida. So provide the fact that you 'might' be getting a couple hundred bucks or beer money for your consulting. Your recommendation to inexperienced buyers not to use a buyer's broker is a bad an uninformed one, and contrary to just about every industry opinion and recommendation for very good reasons. Luckily not many people see your videos. If you were legitimate you would make the time and investment to get a Florida license and then we would see how fast your tune would change.
