Hi Ruth, Beautiful artwork. Have you ever used watercolor to glaze over top of your gouache? I am new at painting with gouache and would like some tips on using both watercolor and gouache in a painting. Thank you for all of your help.
Hi Eileen! Watercolor and gouache work really well together if you use watercolor to create luminous under-paintings and then work over the top with gouache. This way you get to use the best qualities of both mediums! If you glaze watercolor over gouache, the water will reactivate the gouache and make a big old mess, but the other way around works great- just be sure to let the watercolor dry before adding gouache 😊
Hi Michael! I used Utrecht gouache for this- it was a warm and cool primaries set it I recall. Although now I mostly use Winsor & Newton designers gouache- their 6 piece mixing set is a great place to start!
