Hi
A quite long video here this time.
Admittedly, was my first time working on one of this, and learning and figuring out things as you go along, it is not necessarily the easiest or quickest process...
Nevertheless, I believe that a successful result was achieved, by finding and repair the problem...
The problem, which was the rear air suspension of this car, was not working... initially not raising, and later impossible to drop!
In the end, the problem was found and repaired, without the need of any parts!
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!
Great education on how air compression system works in this vehicle - great troubleshooting diagnostic approach & tools
God Bless You for sharing this content and context

Definitely has a cover held on by plastic nuts 3 or 4 of them if I remember the last time I dropped one. Top job as always. Last car I had with this issue was an audi a8. Bear of a job to swap and the 40amp fuse is under the passenger carpet.

Well done as always brother. We need to get you a circuit breaker for fault finding save some fuses 😊

Those tools that are like a trip switch they are very handy to have that going to fuse love so you don't have to keep replacing fuses all the time while testing.
Indeed they are!

Great video, Solved my issue. I wish I did it from the start, instead of taking my car to the repair shops for them to "check" and give me a quote between 700 and 3500€ (driving with lowered suspension, destroying it).
☺️
👍👍👍
That was quite an interesting problem solving and fix
Thanks!

That's what I like about you and your channel , your not scared of pulling things apart and fixing them instead of just replacing parts, not many people like you anymore
Brilliant troubleshooting there as always Luis, also a big thumbs up for fixing the dump valve. I can imagine what BMW would want for a new one given last week's parking sensor horror trip down main dealer parts service lane.....or what quality the third-party ones are. Also, you are absolutely right in suggesting your customer get a second hand cover for the compressor opening, undertrays are there for a reason.

Interesting find and nice video. Hope this will help people with the same problem. This fix will last for some time until water enters the valve and rust it again. I think that initial problem is sealing somewhere in compressor as he allows too much moisture/water to let in the bleeding valve.
Compressing air naturally generates the moisture, which that sort of sand material is supposed to absorb... I guess will only absorb so much, untill it starts to pass further into the valve... I also guess some moisture might the able to naturally dry and some escape through the bleeding/dump route... yes, will not lat forever, just as the brand new one fitted at the factory didn't...

Great video, i have a 2016 g12 750ix few days ago i noticed the front left suspension flat down, the next day it was still down and now its both front left and right. 2 days after, i press the ride height button by the gear lever and they both raise up for a few hours. But i hear a hiss sound by from right wheel. Is it my compress or shock?
I would say the shock/suspension airbag...
But you need to investigate, as it can be a leak on a pipe, the valve, etc...
👍👍👍
Brilliant video I’ve got the same problem. Where r u based.
Usually the dessicant dries out after a few years. These unitscan be rebuilt but for a quick turnaround we just replace them . Did you put in new silica dessicant? Very interesting to see this done in a different way. I just uploaded a video from an F11 with a leaking bag and a worn compressor. Nice to see how you did this. Thumbs up mate.

Hi - thanks for your efforts videoing etc. - very informative.
Maybe I missed this in the video, but why was the car dropping initially ?
Freeing the valve resolved the blowing fuse, but how is that stuck valve linked to the car dropping ? ie. why did it very significantly reduce the rate of dropping ?
Apologies if this is on the vid - if so pls. point me to the right time.
Thanks again 🙂
If I recall correctly the valve to lower the car was working, the one to raise was not...?
I don't recall the whole thing.... lol
Either way, with the was everything was was no surprise that the system was behaving erratically...
I believe I explained it on the video though...
☺️
👍👍👍
My bmw was sitting for 6 days it was raised when I started it the suspension went down and didn't go back up but I hear the compressor come on
Check the valves...
👍👍👍
I have been having similar issues to this. I purchased a new compressor all together, fitted the new compressor but the suspension keeps going down overnight (as it did with the old one). Is there a common area for leaks? Both sides of the suspension seem to go down and pump back up together
Could be, you need to test the pipework and bags...
Was the compressor a genuine or an aftermarket?
👍👍👍
There is a plastic box missing that covers compressor and a under body panel that covers that
Yes it is...
👍👍👍
You couldnt do the calibration because you should measure the actual height distance from point to point and write it. It does the calculation and rises or lowers the vehicle depending on the difference. 620 is the setpoint and the equation is X(actual height) - 620 = Y. If it is 625 (actual) - 620 (target) we would get 5 which is 5mm above the nominal value and the car will drop at this side. Just to know for the next time. BR

İs there any maintance schedule for this compressor on owners manual or bmw engineers thinking this compressor newer needs any maintance when they were designing it?.I think all the air compressor systems needs maintance because pressed air occours water in system
Not sure...
🤷♂️
There are various repair kits for wabco air compressors that replace the ptfe piston ring and seals.
Only know because I just had a quick look on eBay.
Correct...
👍👍👍
Hi i need help i have fluence 2014 not starting can i found with you any wiring diagram for this car
Are you avilable to hve a look at my 5 series. Have had air bags changed but fault messages still occurring.
Hi
Why were the Airbags changed?
What exactly has been changed?
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs Hi and thanks for reply. OK, longish story but July2022 fault message on dash re Chassis Check OK to drive. 5 times into BMW but they only did code clearances and visual checks only. Finally, after insisting they come up with an answer, they ID'd pin hole leak on left inside rear air-suspension unit. They couldn't change such for 4 weeks but I needed car for long-haul trip, so got local recommended garage who've done several of these refits etc completed Nov23.
All was OK until mid Feb23 and same fault messages occured re Chasis Restriction and said above garage ID'd fault codes 480DB1 - Lower Control Time; and 480DB5 - Control Time Lowering Right Rear.
This garage could not be definitive as to what needs changing etc but rear shocks appear fixed at full height and I could not hear blow off valve operating. But then again because of cover, didn't hear this blow off before. Shocks permanently raised to full height, I think.
So, garage recommend new compressor but as they couldn't be sure of actual faulty unitm I'm not inclined to buy a new unit. Hence, why I think to investigate for the potential fixes / approaches.
Apologies for diatribe and regards
Stuart Taylor.
OK
So, if they are stuck at high, it going to most likely be the compressor system, valves etc... I went in quite a bit of detail on this video...
@@sjlt6893hey, how you solve your problem?

Hi, great video, do you have to disconnect the battery to remove the compressor unit of the vehicle?
No...
👍👍👍
Thanks
@@LMAutoRepairsdo i have to reliase air before removing compressor?
If there is air in the system yes... otherwise, remove the fuse for the compressor and crack open the air pipes and let the air escape...
These systems will eventually end up with water in them and that will corrode all the valves. I have not tried on one of these compressors, however, it usually takes about 150 degrees C for about 24 hours to dry it out. It should be possible to do it in the kitchen oven?
Yes...
👍👍👍
Good job sir 👍👍👍

Not sure if you will reply in time, as im going back to bmw tomorrow.
2 months ago, i noticed car was lowered.
I turned engine on and it rasied itself back to normal.
This then continued, could lower after an hour or sometimes days and then every time i start engine it would go back to normal.
So i bit the bullet, took to bmw and then diagnosed as it needing a new air compressor which i paid around £1.3.k to have sorted.
Got car back and week later, it lowered.
Gutted i am, because i go back tomorrow for them to take car back and look again and tell me know what they think is wrong.
Ive suggested they got it wrong and they relaced a part which dodnt need replacing.
They are digging heels in and saying a new fault has happened which is causing it to lower again.
Have you got any ideas on how i can approach this.
Thanks
The leak will be either the compressor, pipes or the bags...
Any one them, relatively simple to diagnose...
👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs thanks for replying, they have changed the compressor at great cost, with you saying a simple diagnose, I presume the cheaper of the three items mentioned would be the pipes, then bags and most expensive compressor itself. If after the compressor was replaced a week ago the car still lowers, does this indicate the old compressor was working fine and it's either the pipes or bags at fault still?
Thanks so much.
@astuteventures
Well, before replace they should have tested...
The compressor can also fail in different ways, as you could see on the video, but if that has been replaced and still the same issue, I would say you can rile that one out...
👍
@@LMAutoRepairs so they said the passenger rear bag is leaking which is causing it to drop driver rear side. Going to replace the one free. Would it be wise to pay for the rear driver to be replaced too?
@astuteventures
If it is free as well, take the opportunity...
Otherwise, I wouldn't bother too much...
If is not leaking, leave it.
👍👍👍
I have problem with 730d F01 and can’t find the problem. Would you be able to help me.

@@LMAutoRepairs there is no bags is have adaptive suspension air springs on the struts have no clue if there a chance to check them for leaks mate. Where are you based in uk?

Hi, I had the same problem with my bmw, I changed the value and the car raised but the back left height is different to the right side height, is there anyway I could reset it without using a diagnostic scan tool as I don't have one. Or how i can get them both the same levels..Any help please
