I live in Montana and prefer fully synthetic 5w40 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer. It gets down well below 0 in the winter and 90s in the summer. The 10w40 definitely effects the fuel economy in my Honda.
I need a fix my old Yamaha ttr 125 quickly and this helped, all I have on hand is 10w30, I need to take the bike to the store to buy the recommended 10w40 lol
@hellofathul my bike runs faster on thin oil but it heats up more during long idle without moving, oil may need periodic top up. Especially air cooled engines
Mine is Hero super splendor...2004 model 125cc...recommended oil is 10w 30...but fully synthetic oil is not coming in this grade from motul...Shell or Castrol...Can l use Shell advanced ultra 10w 40 fully synthetic oil in my bike...love from lndia...How is the quality of Shell advanced ultra 10w 40 fully synthetic oil compared to Motul 7100 10w 40 and Castrol power 1 10w 40 ultimate...please suggest...
Hello, I have a sym symphony 200i abs E5 engine, the recommended engine oil in the user manual is 10w30, but the services in Turkey use 10w40 engine oil. The lowest temperature in the winter months is 0 degrees and in the summer months it is 38 degrees. If I use 10w30, will the engine overheat? What oil number should I use? Thank you.
Gud morning sir...what is the right viscocity of oil in a heavy izuzu truck like 6hl1 engine that has a dpf system...i just read that the castrol magnatec 15w40 is not recommended for cars with dpf...thank u
Only one question. You covered the same 10w.. what about 5w-40 vs 10w-40.. does same rules apply for that Winter number. Im currently running 5w-40 but the Manufacturer recommends 10w-40.
Yes, 5w is thinner at colder temps than 10w. But don't overthink it, use it if it fits what your manufacturer prescribes for your machine. Some recommend no lower than 10W even for sub-zero temps.
Hi John, i have another question that you can answer and give the right advise. Do i need to shake the bottle of a motor oil fairly new production about six months before i pour it in the engine or it's o.k. if not to ? Thank you.
Hey quick question which oil would be best for NYC 10w30 or 10w40 Manual states for 10w30 but I think in New York City the engine runs hot since the engine is always on since I do delivery for minimum 8 hours a day
Hallo John, i have a Honda cb500x '23 mod low miliage. Can i use a good full synthetic 10w40 instead of 10w30 recommended ? Mild winters - hot summers, south Europe. Thank you.
Hey John I have a project I'm working on and Was wondering if you could help me out I'm bringing back to life. Yamaha grizzly 2002 I need to replace the inner belt box housing it has a hole burned into from the exhaust hanging down on it . The primary and the secondary came off. No problem, but the collar spacer that is on the shaft Is seized up not allowing me to take off. is it splined? i dont think it is Do you have any tips on how to remove this?
So.. 10W-50 or 10W-60 will provide even better lubrication? Why is 10w-30 more expensive than 10w-40? What about modern engines that have very tight tolerances - how will the thicker oil penetrate all parts of the engine?
Finally, someone explains where us normal
People can understand it. Thank you
Thank you John! I love learning from you as always! I run 10w40 in all my 4 strokes, this makes me feel even better about my oil choices!

Your Honda likes the XL Boosted 10w30.
Or the 7100 10w30.

I have a ttr 125
Well this makes me feel better about running 10-40 in my bike knowing I ride it like I stole it every day.
if you use 5w40 you might achieve aviation flight on the bike

I always wondered what the 10W meant. Thanks for clarifying that for me John. Once again, you're the man!
Glad to help!

Another great video John
Thank you for a well explained tutorial on the difference. Can I mix the two in a 1988 vehicle?
What about the 20W-50 John ?
Yea !!!
I run it in my BMW boxer twin. 👍🏻
how about mixing them together 30 & 40?
Youll get 20w70
Yesterday I accidentally bought 10W-30 oil for my scooter, it's a 150 cc engine so I forgot got the oil that I usually get

what's better oil in the philippines? 10w-30 or 10w-40? for scooter 150cc
Thank You for the information.
So 10w 40 in summer and 10w30 in winter?
10w40 all the time.
Quick question what about hawaii?

Run 10w40 as recommended and have no worries about oil. Motorcycle 10w40. Not car 10a40.

which grade is best use for 30°c weather??

10w40 if you’re caught in traffic jams on a hot summer day and engine starts overheating.
Full synthetic 10w30. Cut the oil change interval in half.

30 or 40 or 50°c - the second number is not a temperature, the oil needs to lubricate and flow, you don't need sticky gum :) Maybe I am wrong
Yes

Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤❤
Hello, what do you think in using 10w-40 on a GL1800 DCT, user manual asks for 10w-30.
I live in northern Mexico.
Best regards.
i think better stick to manual, looks like it needs to be thin enough to enter tiny passages
Is using 10w40 manuel bike oil for automatic scooter harmful
Depends, is it 2 stroke or 4 stroke? Normally it shouldn't do any damage.
So.. 10W-50 or 10W-60 will provide even better lubrication? Why is 10w-30 more expensive than 10w-40? What about modern engines that have very tight tolerances - how will the thicker oil penetrate all parts of the engine?
No. Use what the manual says period. If the book says 10w60 use 10w60. If it says use 10w30 use 10w30.
Can 10w-40 work on CBR 600rr
Yes 10w40 or 10w30 I run 10 weight 30 in the winter and I run 10 wait 40 in the summer. you want a thicker oil when it’s hotter
Aster 2006 Honda recommends 10w30 period full stop. Read your manual and follow it.
And… what if I use half of 10-30 and half of 10-40???😅
Nothing horrible would happen, you will end up getting oil that behaves like 10w35 (not exactly). 😅
I run Rotella T6 15w-40 in all my bikes. Better on my wallet since I ride 25-30k miles per year
Pretty sure rotellas formula changed a bit ago, it's not good on wet clutch's man
@@pnwripping6636 It should meet the MA2 which is written on the jug.
@@pnwripping6636 That's a myth perpetuated by online forums. It's still good for wet clutches.
Rotella t6 is JASO approved. So is t4 in 40 weight.
🇸🇦👍
