What is your favorite streaming service ???
Karsten Runquist honestly, I only have Netflix. Sadly Netflix is kind of awful
Spotify
currently, hbo max (:
Pirate bay, rarbg and 1337x

@@sensen4161 It's missing a lot of stuff. Snowpiercer and The Darjeeling Limited are the ones off the top of my head.
I love the spicy virus I get after
IMO:
I see the top 3 that will be the biggest in the future being, Netflix, HBO, and Hulu. I like prime video the most though but I dont like the fact that they mix premium content with the free. Feels like false advertisement to me.
On that note, they take a lot of free content from RUclips and put it behind a paywall, which I don't appreciate as a customer.
I am pretty sure Disney plus will do very well too!you have to take him count how many Star wars fans there are and how many marvel fans are and there's a lot of Pixar!
@@ericmonnot8121 yeah but that kinda sucks because whereas Netflix keeps changing its catalogue (at least in my country) Disney+ just has Star wars, marvel, and animation. That's why I just got a free trial, binged everything, and cancelled.
@@ericmonnot8121 The problem is, that's all there is. Look at HBO Max. It has something for everyone. superheroes, kids, adults, anime, mainstream shows/movies. Disney+ will always be limited to kids and those 5 genres. For $7 though it's pretty good.
@@ericmonnot8121 u can get bored with Disney plus pretty quick especially if u don’t watch marvel

Yeah just pirate everything
Outside of the US? As in, you don’t have them outside the US? Because VPNs would solve that :)
@@danielmcgrath680 Well if you're talking about third world countries then the internet speeds are really not up to the level of streaming hd video especially over a vpn.

Netflix may be flawed, but it says something about their platform when they happily put some of their films in theaters
It's extra money. Why wouldn't they?
They have to if they want said films to be eligible for awards.
That they want oscar nominations? Lmao
At least that one movie Netflix bought the distribution rights to wasn’t put in theaters
I know you DID NOT mention Netflix having anime but passed over the fact that HBOmax has Crunchyroll?!?!?!?Netflix’s anime catalogue is washed
Wait. What?????? That's awesome
I have HBO max and most if not all the shows on there are already on Netflix.
Hulu has some good anime too. Better for anime than Netflix for sure. I have Crunchyroll too and Hulu even has some anime that isn't on Crunchyroll or Netflix.
Also the way netflix releases anime is super detrimental to keeping traction of it up.
Instead of simulcasting or uploading it all when the seasons done they basically wait several months/years/year til they can dub it.
Itd be way better to simulcast or just put the animes new season out once all episodes of it are out. And Just advertise the dub when they actually acquire it
Yeah Hulu has much better anime imo
Yeah Hulu has got Atlanta so that’s the best streaming service
Rick Neefjes heck no the layout is horrible on Hulu. I have to click like 50 times to get to the continue watching page
Very Happy that’s your problem man
Atlanta is literally amazing
Netflix has Breaking Bad
im a netflix guy, but when i saw atlanta on hulu, i might just have to get it😂
I’m outraged on behalf of the fubo tv fandom
The Tubi fandom is outraged as well
Everyone should try Fubo, it’s very underrated
MUBI is also in a similar caterogry with Criterion, with 30 days and 30 films, curated beautifully.
There's this one called Kanopy which has a lot of criterion collection, all of A24, and many more indie/foreign films
THANK YOU. As someone who wants to be a director, and wants access to criterion films other than „The Shining“, this is a GODSEND.
most underrated streaming service on the planet.
I'm getting really annoyed by all these services, as they add up being quite expensive and don't even offer stuff at all or on time here in Germany. So I came here expecting to get pissed, but that video was funny as hell; thanks!
for those of us who arent American the streaming services can be really disappointing sometimes
Thats why I collect physical media here in Germany (Well I also just love collecting, so that might play a role too).
HBO NOW..? more like HBO Later
Dang it that made me laugh.
haha yes!
is anyone talking about karsten's profile picture being troy bolton 😂
nope
My dad's is Demi Lovato's character from Camp Rock 🤣 I have no idea why

It’s #1 for me
last time i was this early netflix was still renting out movies and mailing them to you
before i watch: amazon prime is superior and thats based bc of the music trivia and cast that pops up during watching. genius i wish more streaming services did that.
amazon prime would be the greatest if it didn't have the worst layout of anything ever
mac yes amazon has so many great movies but you would never know that because the layout doesn’t show you anything good. i just found out like a month ago they have like every a24 movie
Margaret Cathcart same! it's even worse on the app, with all the categories placements moving every time i go back on it and also never any warning about when something is getting taken off?? netflix kinda sucks with that too but prime has taken films off that i was in THE MIDDLE OF WATCHING??
i think it's because they own imbd and they use that to get all the info. it's super cool, but it can really only be done by amazon unfourntantly. one of the few upsides of having only a few corporations rule everything ig
Watching series on Prime is really frustrating. They're often divided by seasons so each season is a different item, which causes confusion. The worst part is that there isn't an option to watch the previous episode, you have to quit out of playback to then find that previous episode. This happens a lot because of the other annoying thing: sometimes Skip Intro doesn't show up, so I instinctively press the other button that's on the bottom-right corner, which is to watch Next Episode. Anyway, to watch TV shows, Netflix is far superior. As for their collection of films, Prime takes the cake.
We just not gonna y’all about the incredible TCM section on HBO Mac
Or Ghibli, I think it’s the best streaming service. Y’all act like Netflix has a good interface.
I think you mean: HBO Big Mac
preach
what
I dislike how Netflix recommends content tailored to the viewer bc there’s a lot of content I like that they don’t recommend
I hate it too. My entire home screen always looks the same and i never find anything new. Amazon prime is even worse though. They always recommend the shittiest movies and always the same ones too. It's just like Karsten said...as if they want to hide their content from you
The Kanopy krew took a massive L today
and the mubi crew
Fun Fact: In Australia we have “Stan” instead of “Hulu”
Are they the same, as an Aussie I’ve always wondered this
Yea I've wondered that too!! ^^^
RUclips Channel like how you have hungry jack instead of Burger King?
Hulu and Stan are indeed not related, Hulu is owed by Disney and Stan is owed by Nine
I love hbo and a lot of their content but their site is ridiculously hard to navigate. I am so annoyed trying to go through the shows amd episodes and I am not often compelled to watch it. Netflix definitely has the best accessibility but their content can be...ya know
Thank you! I feel like everyone sleeps on Prime because “it’s interface is bad”.
Netflix just announced dark season 3. So they win.... for now.
Nah💯
What’s Dark
Logan Ferrales great German show that’s like a mix of seven/ prisoners and back to the future
yes
So great
the editing in this video is awesome
Agree!
It'd be worth mentioning Kanopy. It's a free streaming service if you are a part of any library. It has stacks of independent films and documentaries as well as classics. Ive been using it for a few years now and my watchlist is still over 100.
my problem with the prime video layout is that I feel like the algorithm chooses like a group of movies it thinks you'll like and then it won't stop pushing that group of movies until you've watched all of them? idk I watched one (1) gay movie and prime was like "okay so here are all of the gay movies and you will watch all of them or else they won't leave your homepage :-)" could just be a personal issue tho ajdhfajfh
Mo Midd wtf is a gay movie. Since when do movies have sexuality lmao
L. S. wow, you got me there! thank you for your service, solider! on behalf of the entire LGBT community, I salute you!
I gotta say, a lil piece of gold I found on Apple tv + was this series called Little Voice. That shit made me cry.
Surprised MUBI isn't mentioned, it has tons of great content and always changing collections makes me actually watch the movies. Definitely one of my favs since Criterion channel isn't in my country.
The noah centineo plus is stuck in my head until I die I guess
That joke really took😂
Lady Bird coming on Netflix is the best thing that has ever happened for my wallet
I’m so sad they took it off of Canadian Netflix
@@florence7287 well with express vpn you geoblocking is nonexistent

Congrats on 300k Karsten! Glad to still be here during this huge milestone!
For anyone who has HBO Max or is interested in getting it, I highly recommend watching Doom Patrol, one of the best superhero shows out right now, very character driven with great writing and fun ideas, a new seasons coming out pretty soon so now is the best time to watch
So rare to find someone who loves Doom Patrol! It's one of my favorite shows.
The most privileged part about being american is the access to streaming services
Just pirate movies, you get all movies for free
Angus Boyd some of us appreciate artists and want to pay to support them so we’ll continue to get content. Not everyone is a criminal
@@angusboyd468 nah man , support the creators
Angus Boyd okay but there are still artist behind those films that aren’t going to make that much money. Sure, Scorsese doesn’t have to worry about the success of The Irishman because he’ll still be able to make movies. But Mati Diop NEEDS the views and success of Atlantics to push forward her career, and pirating it certainly isn’t going to help her.
@@Lamidemonami7891 Heres the thing though, the films that i pirate i cant find anywhere else so how else am i supposed to watch it?
this is one of your best edited video yet. also congrats on 300k
Hulu is the Chic-Fil-A of streaming services

The best thing about Hulu is that it introduced me to Rifftrax.
@@RyanStaben Hulu does not deserve the greatness of wendys
When are you ranking farm animals? I’m waiting for that video for soooo long.
I’ve heard physical media is the way to go, as these streaming services (especially Disney Plus) have been censoring content for no good reason
Disney might as well call themselves the Chinese government because of how much shit they censor
They're doing that just to be more "family-friendly".
congratulations on 300k!!! ❤️
I am in awe of how House Of Cards generated a hologram to star in the show. It's crazy how such a riveting performance could be delivered by a person that doesn't exist.
Netflix is fantastic and I don’t get the hate it’s getting sometimes
it just keeps creating bad shows that you have to sort through to get to a good show, tbh there should be a sort by rating.
It isn’t as good outside America or UK
in canada they keep taking off shows and movies so it isn’t as good anymore
@@masonchase7603 and they keep cancelling the good ones or at least decent ones. Just the other day they cancelled a show I really loved and wanted to know where it went next. But they're still turning out trash like 13rw and the kissing booth and that shit.
*Top Streaming Service : T O R R E N T*
how do u not have at least 1M subs?!?!? it´s crazy . love your content
Yes karsten watches its always sunny! That made my day!
Criterion is the only service I need
Kanopy is my favourite one, it has so many great classic, indie, arthouse, and just great movies. They also have many movies from the criterion collection. The best part is that it’s free, you just need a library card in the US or Australia.
Kanopy is fantastic.
your thumbnails and videos are so soothing
10:39 hahah caught me off guard with that one! Putting 'Noah Centineo' in there with all the other genres was a very subtle, but hilarious (and very accurate) joke. Like I said, it caught me off guard which is likely why i found it so funny, but still. Good stuff lol.
Please make an update on this video now, 2 years later!

absolutely no one:

*"it's PIRACY time"*
Recently got the Criterion collection to watch Fantastic Planet. I love it because they tell you what movies are leaving that month (unlike Netflix where I have to look it up somewhere else). I couldn't recommend it more.
HBO Max does tell you what movies and shows are leaving
Amazing vid! Subscribed my man!
Mubi is another streaming service that is similar to the criterion channel, I really like it
My take away from this is HBO Max is something to keep your eyes on, The Criterion Channel needs more attention, Hulu is slowly rising up and Netflix is flawed still reliable and I don't care much about all the other services tbh.
damn good editing on this one karsten
Here in india, Disney plus comes with All the American Disney plus content, and in addition to that all HBO, Showtime, some ABC, and FX content. The fact that I can watch arrested development, the wire, twin peaks and it’s always sunny on the same platform is amazing.
Karsten grew up with streaming services
Criterion isn't in the UK. Anyone recommend Mubi as an alternative?
Yes, their content is great, and in case you are not interested in watching the 30 movies they offer in a month you can suspend your subscription and come back when there is something of your liking. Also, they add a section called Library where they have a semi-permanent selection of movies.
BFI player is really similar

Hot take: Pluto TV is the king of free streaming services. Rue Paul's Drag Race, American Gladiators, retro nick, Slow TV, weirdly nostalgic 90s TV shows, and a bunch of quality cult movies. They are the real MVP.
congrats on 300k big boy
RUclips Vanced is an Android app that gives you RUclips Red features without having to pay for a subscription. Might want to look into it
I’m using Hulu to watch Cowboy bebop too lmao
The content disparity between usa and other countries seems pretty insane. In most countries netflix is the one who offers Ghibli movies. Amazon here has barely any content for streaming that others don't.
6:37. That joke perfectly encapsulates Netflix as a Whole. That joke gave me an unexpected laugh, so thank you Karsten👍🏾
This is a hilarious video in today's context
What is today's context?
yh the netflix section of this video has aged like milk
so has the HBO Max section lol
In South Africa we have a service called Showmax: it has rights to all HBO content and a lot of original content from CBS and Hulu; it has a bunch of great films; content is uploaded daily; it streams some live news and sports channels; it has local South African content; and it's cheaper than Netflix. So, all I need is Netflix and Showmax and Mubi (for arthouse and classics) and I have almost everything I need, just for ± $30 a month.
Congrats on graduating Karsten Johnson Runquist! Me and Nihal thoroughly your Adam Driver quote.
The only thing I like about Apple TV+ is defending jacob and that’s it
no MUBI?
thought so too
I'm a sitcom and cartoon junkie, so Hulu has always been my favorite. Recently though, I've been getting into movies a bit more, so I re-started my Netflix subscription and might try out HBO Max. I also really like the nostalgia factor of DCOMs and Disney channel series, so I'm enjoying Disney+ so far.
Once you started talking about HBO Max and The Criterion Channel I knew I needed to get them
still waiting for the mid90s review that you promised us on letterbox😔
My favourite streaming service is pirating 😃
I wish you talked about the playback issues. With Disney+ I’ve experienced the picture freezing and the audio continuing to play, so that I have to rewind the movie ten seconds to get them to sync up again. This has happened multiple times and its super frustrating. I also think despite HBO Max’s extensive catalogue, the servers can barely keep up with the playback. Let me know if anyone else has these problems. Its most noticeable with them because Netflix never hitches or buffers or anything buggy.
8:15 When he watches Suspiria 🙈🙈 KING
Please use dark mode with RUclips. No one wants to see 100% luminance.
They did not play there cards right
RUclips is actually my go-to for streaming when something isn't on Netflix. It has pretty much everything, is easy to Chromecast with, is usually only €5 for a rental (even better if you split with a friend) and I charge it to my phone credit which usually goes unused otherwise.
Good video as per usual Karsten, proud of you.
Can we please just get rid of them all and put everything onto ONE single streaming service?
This is the greatest idea ever.
You didn’t mention it, but Kanopy is a really good streaming site! You can make an account for free (signing up with your university ID or local library card). It has a mix of old and recent releases (but not blockbusters), and it has a really good selection of Criterion Channel films, as well as all of a24 films
congrats in 300k homie
Waits patiently for Crunchyroll to be number 1...
Weeb
Myflixer and then soap2day
Mubi is my favourite because it's the closest we have to the Criterion Channel (other than maybe the BFI channel) in the UK, and I love its whole conceit
omg i just turned in my final last night about the redundancy of streaming. great video!
Sony Crackle>>>>>>>>>all the others
4:40 wait a second, wait a second.....why is fantastic mr. fox there
Disney+ is continuously adding Fox content to their service (since, you know, they own the whole company). They recently added the Peanuts movie, X-Men 1, and something I completely forgot
in Argentina netflix have all the ghibli movies
and canada netflix!
This is so interesting from an international perspective, in Ireland, we don't have HBO or hulu so their original content is split between Netflix and prime - so yup we don't have to pay as much to get it all
aaayyyyy, a karsten video!
8:18 Here's a Harvey Kietel movie on Prime I bet you haven't seen (I didn't see it on your Letterboxd anyway.) The Congress (2013.) It's a half live-action half animated film where Robin Wright plays herself. I think that's fun sometimes, like Melissa McCarthy in The Nines (2007,) or Paul Giamatti in Cold Souls (2009.) It's an absolute favorite and I know you would appreciate its artistry. Just a random recommendation from a fellow Minnesotan ✌️
if you're watching this and you're a broke student in the uk like me - MUBI has a free film up every day (and it's up for 30 days) for free with student subscription and they sometimes do free screenings at cinemas too; kanopy lets you access films from your library for free, and BoB has everything that's been broadcast on British tv as far as i know - it is hard to navigate, but you can find so much stuff on there, completely free (although it is a tv recording so you have to sit through ads). also, if you have a curzon cinema near you, they have a student discount + off peak tickets during the day !! i can't afford to pay for subscriptions myself + my parents only use netflix so these have all been great for accessing more quality films xo
Congratulations on your graduation Karsten!!!
Defending Jacobs on ATV+ is one of the most interested western tv show I watched in 2020. Stellar acting and very great story. It worth the price of one month of ATV+
