The line of questioning by prosecutors referred to an incident in which Patterson said Brooks hit her with an open hand.

How has this abusive criminal been allowed to cross examine the person he abused and assaulted? Absolutely disgusting, traumatic, I feel sick for her.
This happens in other cases. Yes, you do feel for the victim.
My mind right now...
If you would like to lose your mind more then go ahead and look up Trevor Summers cross examining his ex-wife.
@@summerclementine132 I'm afraid to
Since he is acting as a lawyer, he has to perform the cross, it is his right under court procedure. If he had a lawyer, the lawyer would have done it. We can't remove a person's right just because we don't like the result.

Girl, the father of your 15 year old took you to a city where you have no close relatives. He lives and drives his mother's car. You stayed with him in the car. You ended up homeless and in a shelter. He physically and psychologically abused you. Here you are on your 32nd birthday being cross examined by the monster.

You are judging cases before trials and determining who is victim and not.

I was simply making a general statement. Meaning do you or we as a society want to determine truth before hearing a matter out.
Not all cases are so obvious in who , is who. Who the victim (s) are, and who is liable. Everyone should have righs until they are found guilty by their peers in a court of law. Including the rights to competent representation, and the right to public questioning of the accuser.
Many accusers turn out to be false accusers. They bare false witness.
Our system is brilliant when done right.
Some of my suggestions for court reform
- stop long drawn out court trials.
- no bails
- no money to courts. Unless found guilty, than the guilty party pays for the
Lawyer fees of the plaintiff.
-the guity pays restitution to their victims. Immediately and if possible.
-life for life - effective within one week.
I am in awe of her composure. I can’t imagine the stress and emotion of this situation, especially after suffering 17 years of untold abuse at the hands of this monster. This is what true strength and resilience looks like. This woman is a warrior.

Sorry but no. Why did the community of Wakeusha have to go through this terrorist attack during their holiday season? Because Wakeusha had a battered woman’s shelter and they were sheltering Erika from Brooks. 24 hours after his mom posts bail, Erika contacted him, gave him the location of the shelter and said to meet nearby at the park where the parade staging area was. Her friends kept trying to keep her from getting in the car even though he was screaming at her demanding money, took her welfare benefits card and again tried to run her over. 17 years of this, if she wants to be with him, why endanger the woman’s shelter, her friends and the community that housed the shelter. Everyone is praising her but I think those that orbit Darryl’s world are a blight on society. She’s 32, they don’t have custody of the 14 yo. They have no reason to see each other except for violence.
@@mychannel-fy3tf I was only commenting on what I saw within the context of this video and the story that the media have told the rest of the country. Obviously, you are much closer locally to the situation and have presented here that this situation has shades of grey to consider. I fully respect that. I would add, however, one observation, which is that the lines between abuser and the abused are also often blurred. Only a higher power truly knows what power he may have wielded over her, and she had to make personal decisions for her own survival that no one else may ever know.
I love how women are praised for sticking around a complete piece of garbage for almost 20 years because she told the truth, like she is required to do, on the stand. Sounds to me like most of you play the "I'm just a silly girl" card until it stops working in their favor.

Agreed.
There is something intrinsically wrong with someone being allowed the position of 'cross examining' a person whom they have been charged with harming.
Have to only if she agrees to testify for the prosecution, the defense has the right to cross examine.
Welcome to America Justice!!!
Like rapist having parental right if a child is conceived from their crime.
Sometimes it is done because the defendant earnestly believes they would be the best representation and advocated for themselves in a court of law. Sometimes the defendant chooses to represent themselves for the explicit purpose of intimidating witnesses in cross-examination.
I do think it has a lot of potential to give testifying witnesses for the state significant emotional distress… since the entire time the defense is basically trying to gaslight the witness about crimes the defendant know they committed, unlike outside defense representation who cannot fully know whether the crime was or not committed by their clients if they were not present … and even then, non-self defense representation if I am not mistaken, usually believes in their client’s innocence.
I don’t know the purpose of allowing a defendant representing themselves to cross examine a witness. Like I don’t know what right of the defendant it is likely seeking to protect, but yeah it can go really badly.
Took a lot of guts for Ms Patterson to come forward
Nailed it! 100% agreed!!!!
Agree with this 100%. I know that the defendant has the right to defend themselves and to cross examine witnesses in order to provide a proper defense for themselves but in situations where it is an abuser questioning their victim it is hard to watch.
There was another popular trial recently where the defendant chose to represent themselves(I can't remember the defendant's name currently). He was on trial for murdering his young disabled daughter and the mother of the child, as well as the attempted murder of his son. It was so hard to watch this man cross examine his own son who he had tried to murder. That boy was so strong during the whole thing, truly an inspiration. Luckily he was adopted by one of the police officers who showed up on the scene originally and is in a loving environment with access to help for the trauma he must have after everything he experienced.

She’s a rock star!!🎉❤
Yes, she is safe now. It's just too bad that it took the lives of 6 people to do that.
🤞🏿❤️
She was 16 when she got pregnant and he was 24. Protect your children. 16 might not seem like a big deal to some people since it's legal in some countries (before some states are brought up, most states, you have to be no more than a few years older than 16 to date a 16 year old), but these are the types who go for highschoolers - abusive psychos.
I think she was 15.
He actually pled guilty to a sex offence in AZ for that. He is a registered sex offender.
I’ve always said 16 is grown now days sorry to who doesn’t agree
It’s sad that’s the case but some children don’t get that opportunity to b kids at 16
@@itsmesheree3937 16 is not grown lol. It’s sad you think that a teenager is grown and is more reflective of your own personal background and environment than reality
Did anyone notice that look of disgust she gave him and then looked at someone and smiled. Looks like someone gave her a moment of comfort.
I caught that. Made me smile 😊
Darrell Brooks overuses the phrase, "alleged defendant".
He’s NOT an “alleged defendant “ he’s THE defendant! He is a narcissist abuser and this makes me sick.
Omg I couldnt stand that and the fact that they talked about him in the 3rd person
Exactly!!!! This interrogation made me furious. Between the “alleged defendant” and “would it be fair to say”, watching this was torture!
What about the “ I do not consent to be called by that name”?
He makes me sick too he's trying to keep her on an emotional hook ..RELEVANCE ???
“SEE WHAT YOU MADE ME DO?”
Abusers want their victims to believe everything’s their fault. 😖
I suspect his anger and loss of control over Erika led to his murderous rampage.
In his head he blames Erika for his actions.
He does the same thing in court. He tries to control and when he can’t control everything ,he has temper tantrums. When he has temper tantrums , it’s because the judge isn’t fair and she made him do it.
This woman, Erika, needs to be afforded an opportunity of a new life. Clearly, she is intelligent and lost out on opportunities due to being a young teen mom. It would be nice if she could be sponsored to enroll in community college...nursing or some other degreed field, and make a home for herself and her daughter.
👏👏👏👏👏 yes!
Yes! You can tell she's a wonderful person! I pray she gets a blessing ❤
Yes! 🙏🏽
I agree
Yip I agree , she is very intelligent and did amazing up on the stand . I hope her life is much better now
Not only is Erika an amazing witness she I think for the first in knowing this pathetic human that she stood up to him. I could tell that she didn’t want to show him one more tear. I love her Georgia accent and that she didn’t let him hurt her EVER AGAIN!!! ❤
I'm so sorry you got mixed up with this man. They can be so charming when they want to be. You held your ground and were very courageous! I wish you all the best!
He dated her since she was 15 .
Wow. She’s more composed facing her abuser than I am arguing with my (totally non-abusive) sister! There is no intimidating this woman!
Right! Lmao. Same here!
I'm confused about this trial
He wants her to slip up but he is an abusive POS , will this court allow him to get away with it?
You'd be surprised how strong some women are! I'm willing to bet she had some things on the back burner I bet he knew not to touch on. What he needs to do is plead anyway cause they're going to vote guilty! God, what is this country coming to? Nobody should be able to question a victim of theirs, I still remember the guy that shot those people on a train, an I know he was a pychopath, (narcissist) with an attitude!!! 😠😡🤬
She's been dealing with that clown since she was 15, more than half her life. She'll finally have some normalcy when it comes to that situation now.
“Would it be fair to say that” I am completely shocked at the insanity of this country’s justice system and this hearing?!!!
TRUTH.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🤦♀️
Yes, it would. An accused person has the right to face their accusers. They also have the right to represent themselves. The court had 4 competency evaluations of this man and all found him competent. Just because a person is evil, cruel, abusive and even a murderer doesn't make them crazy in medical terms. He should have kept the public defenders. The jury is getting to see him for what he is. They know and are witnessing exactly how he is. Being obnoxious and believing stupid things he found on the internet about Sovereign Citizens doesn't make him crazy. It makes him hard headed and stupid.
I don’t not agree to anything this man stands for or agree that he is well versed enough to cross examine. However. Everyone has the right to a fair trial and if he chooses to make himself look like a fool to represent himself he is allowed to even if it sucks.
That is fair to say
How the narcissist believes their own bs is crazy!!! Evil
Re-listening to this because, I missed quite a bit of this part. Daayyyuuumm, he tried to make it her fault, he tried hard to screw her up with the shelter, tried to make her look and feel like she was to blame, for his actions. What a pos.
She so strong being crossed examined by her own abuser as well as the father of her child. And remains calm and composed. Respect to her.
I love her so much! Takes her power back!❤
@@amys5715 what power ?
@@amys5715 she never lost power, she just lost confidence. Another dude will bring it back out while be step dad to his kids.
He may have had so bad experience growing up maybe no father figure to guide some of the men father missing in their lives so they turn to street criminals deeds
Happy Birthday to this beautiful woman! I can't imagine what hell it would have been to have this guy in her life for more than half of it. What a gift to be able to get away from him finally! 💜
LORD continue to protect her at ALL costs. The fact that he was allowed to cross examine her and with the same questions such foolery from him. The bravery that she has shown against this monster. She will never have to endure his physical, mental or emotional abuse again nor him trying to intimidate her. We are so proud of you 👏🏾 Give her peace and allow her to be a beacon of light and advocate against domestic violence from all women across the globe. Ms. Patterson you are our shero👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏽
"the alledged defendant" has me rolling. Dude, you ARE the defendant.
Actually, his legal argument is that the person appearing in Court was NOT properly named as the defendant in this case so, if true, ALLEGED Defendant is accurate.
@@tinameyer7080 no he IS being accused, prosecuted and tried. He is sitting in the defense position defending himself. He is the defendant.
@@whitebird803 I am not disagreeing- I'm saying that his defense (As a SOVEREIGN) must object and claim "ALLEGED Defendant"....I'm NOT saying his defense will be successful- I'm saying that for accuracy and consistency- he HAS to say that..
He also calls himself "Mr. Brooks" and "my client!" Is that the proper way to name one's self in this self representing situation?
@@MandyDeeB Yes. He has to speak in third person. He is the defendant and representation.
Someone PLEASE stop this mess!! He's a fool!!!
Even fools have a right to represent themselves. Just like Ted Bundy did. I wouldn't advise it but at least he is doing himself in further & further. 👍
He's so fine tho 🫠😍
🙏 Amen
@@Rich-yj4ub I know, but at least Ted Bundy was less annoying.
How she held herself together like she did is remarkable. Remarkable.
That sheriff behind was at the ready, waiting for this fool to make a false move, watched his face getting red the longer this went on. This girl got stronger as the questions got more repetitive “I don’t what this has to do with this trial”.
Can we say sociopathic narcissist!?! Bless her for keeping her composure and being so professional while being cross examined by her abuser!!
He is the definition of one! Sickening
Yes. We can say it.
Yes agreed. Poor girl my heart breaks 💔 for her she has been getting abused by this monster since she was 15 years old. He will never hurt her or anyone again when he gets life in prison soon.
This lady is using many tactics to shut down a narcissist. Keeping her statements short, staying calm and placid, and exuding strength.
He's also ridiculously stupid. People that meet all these categories, gotta wonder why they still draw breath
You can tell this woman is a real sweetheart with a lot of potential. I hope things work out for her.
Unfortunately his ruined another person's life I hope she finds some kind of peace.
To god be the glory 🙌🏽
She seems like an intelligent lady. Hope everything works out for her.
You can also tell that she's intelligent and articulate.
Erika may never read these comments in this comments section, but I kinda hope she does. I hope she knows how much people were rooting for her. I hope her life gets much better after this horrible ordeal.
Did she say a 15 yr old daughter 😳😳. Damn before she said her age, I really thought she was no more than 25. Thank god she is done with him
A murderer should never ever ever never be able to question his victims. EVER!
Not to sound mean. But if a murderer murders his victim, he can't question them.
This is what’s wrong with our system allowing Criminals so many rights.
this is a joke trial
This shit is insane af
He is trying to say that she drank a d they were fighting cuz she disrespected him. He gets mad and starts speeding and rams into the crowd. got human by not respecting him,
You're not an alleged defendant, genius boy. You ARE the defendant.
💯💯
@@dar7230 Thanks ! 🤣
I love watching an abuser finally not be able to talk himself out of being caught in ALL their lies ! Finally being held accountable
He can’t put his hands on her, so he tried to get in her trouble with her housing situation. Whew.
I hope there is a GoFundMe for this young lady. She has been stuck in a abusive relationship since she was 15. She is so capable of getting out of the shelter and doing so much with her life. She has stood up to her abuser which had to be so hard. She is so strong. I pray she goes on to a better life once he is locked away.
she's a drunk and a loser, where is her child? Why is she not taking care of her child instead of fighting in the street with her murderer boyfriend?

Can you drop link please ❤
He's Perry Mason ... with the vocabulary of a budgerigar, mmmm hmmm
No she's not becUse if she was, she would have.
I don't know if anyone has thought about it but being a survivor of a toxic abusive narcissist I realize that he was inside her head when she came to Wisconsin. She didn't have a chance. I am so happy, proud for her finding her voice and standing against him.
Yeah they often like to take you away from familiar people and places. So basically you only have them to rely on and 'need them' also no outside interference from people trying to help or call out their behaviour smh
@Jodii Perez This is so true.. well said
@@weeshirley5934 sad truth unfortunately ❤️❤️
Wonderful 😊
She has to care for her friend more than herself becuz him hitting her did it. I’m glad she came to Wisconsin and I’m glad she met that woman who gave her strength
I hope she's doing amazing!! Being with an abusive narcissist can do such a number on your mental health and outlook on life...I wish her nothing but the best!!
I sure hope she has closure too and she doesn't hold any blame for this psychopath and his horrendous acts!
I love how her disposition changed when the prosecute was the one asking the questions. You could see that there was trust and mutual respect whereas her answers to wannabe lawyer Brooks were cold and courageous and made him look foolish.
He’s bullying her and she was getting angry. This was a horrible look for him in my opinion, and the jury saw it all.
"Would it be fair to say I thought being a lawyer was not this hard? " "Would it be fair to say I want to ask the same question a few more times?" That was painful
Has he been charged with statutory rape of a 17 year-old?
Maybe he could help Amber Turd with her appeal. 🙄😝 What a joke he is!!
😤💯
Wow 😮bless his heart!
I don't know, after hearing Elaine, (Amber Heard's very experienced attorney), this guy isn't bad considering he's not an actual lawyer.
We don’t always choose to give our power away. Sometimes, we can find ourselves losing out to a partner who bullies, belittles or otherwise terrorizes us into giving our power up to them. They take power from us with threats and fear, but we further perpetuate this imbalance of power by sticking around when we know things aren’t right. Failing to stick up for our boundaries is a critical misstep, and one that lets abusers in.
Awesome job Erika, you stood your ground facing him and YOU WON! May God continue to bless you and I'm praying that you get to enjoy the rest of your life freely. Love you Sister!
God, this is so true. It happens without even realizing it.
Lawyer: will you please provide your name for the court?
Brooks: objection, relevance
Imagine murdering a bunch of people in a drunken rage, and then using the trial to legally annoy the s**t out of the victims' families and your ex girlfriends.
Merica ‘ and that good ol sixth amendment
Just like the LIR shooter. A travesty of justice. Grrr
Riiiiiight that's all this is! I'm baffled?!
It is unimaginable.
And try to bring up her drinking to get her kicked out of the shelter. He beat her up because she said no to him and no one says no to him. 😡😡😡😡😡 he spoke on her being a bad mom and I bet my last dollar he's never paid one cent in child support for his children.
It really feels wrong that he is allowed to question his victims...I know it's his right legally...just cruel 🤬
I couldn’t agree more & this guy is just an evil FOOL who thinks he’s smarter than everyone else. Sad.
This is so wrong allowing him to abuse her more.
I totally agree. he's a horrible monster!
Yeah… They need to start hiring advocates to question them in the place of the defendant. Also, he tried to plea insanity, and now he’s representing himself after he was found competent🙄 Manipulative is more like it. Ugh…
Theres another case where the womens ex husband cross exams her & he had tied her up, held her hostage for several hrs 💔 it blows my mind how they get to cross exam the victim.
She's a beautiful woman. I hope she can heal quickly from the many levels of abuse by him.

Alleged defendant?? WTF does that even mean? LOL! Does he know the meaning of alleged?
If he says, "would it be fair to say..." one more time, I swear TO GOD.
right there with ya!! NONE of his ridiculous questions is "fair"!!
Or "alleged defendant" he is the defendant. 🤦♀️
Would it be fair to day he is a moron and a murderer? YEASH!
That's how I feel when he repeatedly says grounds. COFFEE GROUNDS 😆
Right!? Dying here...
Perfect demonstration of the way an abuser tries to accuse and the victim, to make it her fault he hits her. How many times does she have to repeat this conversation? At what point is it badgering the witness?
✨💯✨
This is so sick…. Death Penalty PLEASE!!!!!
So sorry for her….
Right...
Defence should have cut in more often
Amazing bravery shown by Erika.. Her courage stands in stark contrast to 'Mr. Brooks', a coward who while on trial for such a ghastly crime was intent on getting her kicked out. He is such a POS, glad he is rotting in a cell for life. While it is uncomfortable to watch, this is the cost the courts pay to protect the innocent from an unfair trial. There should be better rules to prevent or at least strictly govern the extent to which an abuse victim can be questioned by their abuser in court.
In hindsight, I think he wanted her to feel sorry for him. That’s why he dressed like a prisoner that’s one strong woman justice has been served.
