You need to open the Black Castle and have the bridge with you to get to the dot. Go into the Black Castle, past the room with red walls, and into the Upper Catacombs. There is a narrow passageway at the top of the first room in the Upper Catacombs, just to the left of the top center. The room you must go to is directly to the left of the first room. However, to get there, you need to take a winding path through the top of the first room and the room above it (if you have the bridge, you could take shortcuts, but I'm keeping it simple here).

Follow some aspects more closely, yes. But completely? Watch Percival/Artemis play Joust against Vecna? Watch him go through the entirety of Zork? Have a group of distant acquaintances instead of the more closeknit High Five for most of the story? Watch them reenact Ferris Bueller's Day off and War Games? I don't know. I agree that they could have leaned more into the dystopia of the real world that the book portrays. For example the obsessive recluse phase of Wade . But the changes in pop culture references and pacing inside the Oasis they made for the movie are mostly ok with me.
It was fun, the book had more (and real)stakes though, and a better ending. Plus the movie played into the main girl being “movie ugly” acting like that small blemish made an otherwise good looking girl hideous and induced vomiting simply looking at her, playing into Hollywood beauty standards
Interesting fight too, considered even if they learned their punches from games, they still put up a good fight against someone who is very trained irl. However, they also used a trick gamers do: use their surroundings (fire extinguisher)
The gamers will always have a hidden skill though. Trained fighters know when to quit. Gamers are either stupid enough or brave enough to know if they’re going down and drag the enemy as far down to hell with them as possible 😂
