I love how the cop says "Well well, if it isn't our old friend, Bluestone the Great" as if the gang has encountered him before. I know he's probably referring to the authorities but it was always such a weird line to me.
Man, just think how quickly he might've found the treasure if instead of spending so much time and effort to set up ghost effects he'd just...looked for it. I mean wasn't he there alone until the gang showed up? It is kinda fun to just have a classic sheet ghost monster though. Sure, it's not super memorable, but is delightfully iconic in a way.
I warn youuuuuuuu leave haunted isle and never returrrrrrrn. The phantom has spokeeeeeeen.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAWOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOO!
Glad to see that this series is continuing
I'm surprised Bluestone was so willing to show the gang how he did his walk through walls trick and not even try to make a run for it. I respect him for that. :)
Well, he was already ejected from the Magicians' guild so what else could they do to him, take his legs?
Shaggy already took care of that himself.
@@tskmaster3837 What are you talking about?!
He probably admired the gang for being able to catch him so he showed them his special effects as a weird show of respect to them.
He's a showman not a criminal
@@Xehanort10 That makes sense. It's something that a villain from "Columbo" would do-showing respect for your adversary despite them being responsible for your arrest.
Personally, what I really like about Bluestone was that he was the first Scooby villain to utilize elaborate tricks or technology, like the film projector, to sell the illusion of being an actual ghost or monster (as opposed to simply donning a suit like the Black Knight did). I also like his background as a stage magician turned crook, and how he didn't get too bent out of shape like most Scooby villains do once they're captured and exposed, he seemed to just accept the fact that he had been bested and was more than happy to showoff how he did it all at the end, like he was simply happy to share the secrets of his craft with a worthy opponent. Granted, I will admit he has the simplest, least impressive ghost disguise of any Scooby villain from the original series, but I still like him for everything else he managed to pull off, & the cool castle on an island setting he had going for him.
He was basically Mysterio.
@@DistractedGlobeGuy
Was Mysterio a thing back in 1969?
@@1krani he appeared in 1963 in amazing spider-man issue 13
Yeah but if you see him irl in a back alley your gonna get scared
For the late 1960s, the original Scooby Doo really have some of the best soundtrack since the Beatles or the Monkees went popular back then.
Mr. Friendship The music with lyrics didn’t come until Season 2 in the 70’s
@@DoctorWolfula eh, 1970 was still basically the 60's.
@@silobobus3268 Yeah. That's like the early 2000s is still the 90s. You're right! But dang! The rock and roll music looks great for a cartoon.
@@DoctorWolfula the original clarinet and brass theme is also cool though.
Was waiting for this all day long. Love it
Can't wait for Spooky Space Kook
The scary thing about Bluestone was that he didn't need a scary costume, his tricks were frightening enough.
In Milwaukee Wisconsin the first episode of Scooby-Doo was preempted by a local news story so this was the first one we saw
One of the Scooby games for the PS2 had this ghost as a boss, it was my favorite boss in the game. The classic sheet ghost may not be scary but will always be stylish.
to be fair, if i was shipwrecked on an island with an abandoned castle i would 100% check it out
Right
As a kid this is the Scooby-Doo episode I saw the most since it was on 2 vhs tapes I owned as a kid.
TBH this episode probably would actually have been a better pilot that the actual first episode.
bill cage 32 Maybe it was the pilot, the number of characters is limited, the setting is confined and the villain is simple. This could have been the first episode made to convince the network but they just aired it second.
@@DoctorWolfula seems plausible.
@@DoctorWolfula I guess we have two pilots, one with a special title card and another for a reusable title card.
“What a Night for a Knight” goes for the basic premise and atmosphere, “Hassle in the Castle” goes for the characterization and gags. I also would like to note, they did have a scene in the midst of the mystery that clued in on fact that the monster of the day is actually a magician. Also, I’m surprised they want to use this monster as part of the intro. I do recall a Scooby-Doo video game, “Night of 100 Frights” having it as part of the roster, along with other monsters that were mostly comprised of Season 1 and 2 monsters.
LOVE THIS! So much fun.
You are really getting exciting and different content out there. Appreciate it 👻
Isn’t this the third episode of season 1 though? Episode 2 was “A Clue for Scooby Doo” in every episode collection that episode comes second and makes sense as it’s order.
That's right.
I do love me some Scooby-Doo. Tuesday just got better. Keep 'em coming I say!
This show is reason I'm horror fan
Loving this series! Nostalgic passion is always good to listen to and totally warms my heart.
I can't wait for Foul Play in Funland though.
He could had got away with it if it wasn’t for those investigating kids.
Don't you mean those shipwrecked kids?
And their dog
The laugh so reminds me of the Invisible Man's laugh
Would you consider doo-ing a review of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated?
If this series is popular with people, I will cover the other Scooby stuff
@@DoctorWolfula What's New Scooby Doo? I love that series. It has a reputation for being vanilla, but it actually has a lot of episodes that humorously subvert Scooby Doo tropes. I also loved the mystery aspect of the series. The show introduced multiple plausible suspects in each episode but hid clues that subtly pointed to one suspect. Therefore, the unmasking was always a surprise, but Velma's explanations for how she figured out it was them all along were deeply satisfying.
One thing I love about this episode is that it's mentioned on the Phantom of the Opera adaptations page under "Other Media References", since the villain is called the Phantom, he's a practicing magician and can make himself appear ghost-like, he lives in the catacombs, and there's a chandelier crash in an attempt to catch him. As a Phantom fan, I thought that was really cool once I realized and it made me appreciate "Hassle in the Castle" even more! It was the original Scooby/Phantom adventure before the movie "Stage Fright" in 2013, in which the whole movie took on a distinct Phantom of the Opera theme (since the story was originally written as a mystery novel before becoming dubbed "The World's Greatest Love Story" by ALW's musical 😆 ).
Still one of my favorite episodes!
Some of the best painted BG's in the series! Viva La Gouache!
2:35 Ghost is clearly transparent - meaning if there was a guy inside there we should see him. So it's _gotta be a real ghost?_ *But no!*
(Oh okay. he was using a hologram. (which totally didn't exist back then.))
It makes me so happy that Scooby Doo is still around 50 plus years later
00:02 "gp's" ? Ruh roh! Riam rorry!
So glad u brought this back, love it! ❤❤
Loved this cartoon. I was goth before goth was cool.

I ♡ Scoobydoo!!! I watched this growing up.. so much fun!
Love this!
This is so relaxing to watch and the best part is there are so many episodes and different scooby doo shows so there will never not be an episode
I can't wait till you get to a favorite episode of mine called haunted house hang up where the person ain't really a bad person at all doctor wolf
The ghost laughing sacred me when I was little 😮😮😮
I remember this episode as a kid when it use to come on cartoon network at midnight the ghost laugh use to scare me out of my sleep lol
This episode is number 5 on my video ranking of the where are you episodes. I love the gags!
Also a favorite scene of mine and my friends from this episode you did not show when the skull says they went that atta way also before when a random ham and cheese sandwich shows up with mustard that shaggy wanted
I'm just saying, of all the horror movies and shit I watched when I was like 7, THIS ghost actually scared tf out of me and I had a couple nightmares of that horrifying laugh.
This show gives me so much nostalgia! More I need more! Ha ha ha.
Thanks to FB cause i missed the update this was posted :-D Doctor Wolfula keep making Sid make these :-)
Super late here, sorry Doc, but has anyone else ever noticed Bluestone just kind of ESCAPED from his bindings and no one remarks on it?! Seriously that should've been red-flag city for those cops, even in the 70s; if he can slip rope, he probably can slip handcuffs and jail cell bars...
Great episode doc!
Can’t wait until you get to the ice cream ghost episode. That is one of my favorites
Why’d i think that it’s jonathan harris doing the voice for the ghost
This was great!
This episode scared the shit outta me as a kid. Couldn't sleep for ages lol
Edit, I was */actually/* thinking of the episode with the phantoms in chains 😱
This is actually episode 3, which explains why it doenst have custom title card.🤔
I love this series, you better not cancel it, or I'll Scooby Doo villan your ass and scare you into finishing it
This episode used to scare me as a kid the whole show did
Doc I seen the new trailer for Scooby Doo when I saw Sonic. and let's say hopefully the voice isn't too distracting from Scoob.
I need the complete series on dvd.
You can buy it from Walmart on DVD for like $20 or so, or buy the Blu-ray which includes season 3 of the Scooby Doo Show with it for like $60ish
Yo what is the theme remix that you are using it sounds good
Is it just me who think that the ghost's voice resembles vincent price's voice, or that the bandit plan resembles mysterio from spiderman?
Awesome
Is this episode 2? I've read "Hassle in the Castle" is actually episode 3. Can you help me find it out?
Nice.
Oh wow, are you covering every Scooby Doo episode?
Sup
Captain Cutler is coming
I’m not sure if you’ve seen it but can you review dog soldiers
I hope this series ends with a wolfula tie in and he kills cyd for being in his house for some reason.
