- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- In this comparison video, Tim pits his 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited against the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado High Country. There is a roughly $9k difference between Tim's lower trimmed Tundra and the fully loaded Chevy Silverado High Country he borrowed from the press fleet, which makes for an interesting comparison. See what you get from each for the money and help him decide if the Tundra is overpriced, or if the Silverado is underpriced.

Love the Chevy. I choose RST with 3.0 Duramax over any half ton truck
I would say the Tundra has pretty much the same features for $9K less. I'd probably upgrade the Tundra to the hybrid in the same trim.
Didn't see a multipro tailgate, HUD on the windshield, digital cluster, huge infotainment screen, integrated bumper step, rear in seat storage bins, upper glove box, or big muscular V8 under the hood but ok.
I did see a company that basically copy/pasted the exterior design and put a hideous front and rear end on 3 years later. 🤡 less payload, less towing, less power, no comparison between these two.
I have to say I think it’s all priced right. This high country is packaged close to my 2022 Platinum Tundra and THAT trim was 67k (non-hybrid) out the door. These are my two favorite trucks to own. Both are great but if I own one I’m always lusting for the other. I love the bumper steps, multiflex tail gate, auto 4x4, AND remote start set up on the Silverado so Mike if you’re reading this you have my permission to copy cat Chevy and bring those awesome features to the Tundra or something like them anyway. P.S.: front tow hooks would make everyone happy.
To be honest, silverado's interior looks much better than tundra, also the build quality
@@yuxiaogao5167 I agree. I may have to check out that Silverado while trade value is high. Finding one may be a challenge.
The missing button is for the highest trim level, the ZR2. Those are for the lockers.
Great job Tim. I have the 1794, fully loaded out the door for 66k. It not a 4x4, so that saved 3k. When i see all the new trucks I want one of each.
I paid 66k for a 1794 4x4 brand new 2023
I've watched 30-40 videos now on the 2022 Tundra, and as a current Tundra V8 owner I have never ever begun to unlike a vehicle more than the new Tundra with more viewings about it. I really am disappointed in almost every possible way with this new truck. Smaller, bed, shorter bed, no toe hooks, ugly as hell front end, smaller cab, double cab is almost unusable for passengers, enormous screen that requires you to sign in and doesn't work half the time, seats that are not supportive enough of your legs, issues with turbos, a bumper you cannot even step on, a tail gate that has no innovation to it and no way to get into the back of the truck unless you use a bolt on step, issues with moldings, frames bending when towed from behind because no toe hooks, rear wheels falling off, molding around windows coming off, leaking sun roofs, worse mpg than originally leaked.....and costs as much or more than other trucks.
It's a shame because my Tundra V8 has 193,000'ish miles on it and is a 2009, but honestly I don't see me upgraind to a Tundra. At this point when my current Tundra dies or gets in a wreck or something happens to it, I'm probably going to go 6.2L V8 Sierra. A shame Toyota you really screwed the pooch...bad!
Goodluck bro
I had a 2018 Limited Tundra and it had leather seats vs the 2022 Limited without leather. I also paid thousands and thousands less than the current one. I think Toyota hatched a turd (trd) with the redesign.
I disagree with a
Your comments but I love your action movies 😍
I have a 2022 SR5 offroad. I find getting in the box painful, the front end needs a small design tweak for sure. Other than that the truck is solid as fu%k.
I’ve been talking with a local dealer and can get that exact same build High Country for $68k. The only thing is for actually a little less, I might be able to get the AT4. I don’t really care that it’s taller but I like the dash and interior better and it’s much easier to drop the rear to level the truck than to raise the front. With GM, for me, it’s all about the Duramax-I’m done with their cylinder deactivation gas engines.
agreed, DFM and AFM was an abortion.
The 3.0 duramax is a great engine I've owned one for a year and mpg is great for long trips
That's what I paid for My 2023 tundra 1794. And is 100 times better
I'm Toyota fan, growing up in South Africa they are the back bone of the economy from farms to construction!
And?
Tim always enjoy your videos. 2016 Tundra owner here. Doesn't smell new anymore, put it does smell paid for and only 65k, which is great for a retired person that would have to sell two grandkids (kidding now) to pay 70K for a new truck.
I'm with you completely.
Tim saying he “may talk a little fast” lol he always talks fast. Great video as usual.
Chevy has steel bumpers, Toyota has plastic bumpers. Chevy has remote start that stays running when you open the door, Toyota has remote start that kills the engine when the door is opened. I'm still not sold on either one.
Chevy forces you to buy OnStar.
@@Boobtube. Toyota charges a subscription for remote start too... So there's that.
@@terrarecon yep, once 1 starts it, and the masses accept it, The flood gates are wide open for all the other manufactures to start charging as well. Most will not fight it and just pay it, so it will just spread faster than covid.

I think an LTZ would’ve been more comparable to this Tundra.
Probably would have.
agreed, but Tim gotta use what he has.
@@Boobtube. yeah. Guess g m trying to make their truck look better.. I personally prefer the LTZ. It basically has everything you need and some stuff you don’t need but want !
You didn't mention that the High Country has front tow hooks....something that is painfully left off the Tundra.
Honestly, I thought about mentioning it, but I've already beaten that topic to death.

Unused, not fake button would be for the e-lockers that this does not have.
I recently went from a 2020 Silverado with a 5.3L V8 to a F150 Powerboost and haven't looked back. 24 gallon fuel tank is not acceptable for a full sized truck PERIOD.
That’s only a few more gallons than my Colorado
my 2016 silverado 5.3 , z71 had a 27 something gallon, it was metric,, i figured out once, 27.4 or something , i now have a 2022 colorado redline v6
The Tundra is a 32 Gallon. Not 24
i think he was meaning his chevy
@@johnrambo4082 the Chevy is 24. The powerboost is 30.6. 36 optional in the ecoboost 3.5L which gives you close to 700 miles of range. I could barely get 420 miles in my chevy.
I think the Tundra is overpriced for what it is. But, ALL trucks are overpriced in general because they are in demand. This microchip fiasco isn’t the customer’s fault, so there should be a generous discount for not getting what you want.
its over priced because idiots keep paying 60, 70, and 80 thousand dollars for a pickup. besides if i were going to pay to much , i would for a tundra, just because a tundra would be around long after that gmc is recycled into ram
For 2022, I would have picked the Tundra. For 2023 I pick the new upgraded Silverado.
Nope toyota forever
I saw a new Tundra this month. I think they look a lot better in person. I’d choose the Toyota for reliability alone.
Actually, they look worse in person. The front grill and the rear bumper are a disaster as are the misaligned body panels. Toyota screwed the pooch on this truck.........
@@user-tb7rn1il3q The shine and lustre has worn off long ago with Toyota; big disappointment.
I really like that Silverado in the High Country Trim.
Until it breaks lol
2Gen Tundra owner here. I'll take the new Silverado in 3.0 diesel Trail Boss and keep my 2Gen Tundra. I am NOT a fan of the 2023 Tundra, my 2Gen runs like a boss. And I'm somewhat irritated with Toyota these days anyway. Not looking like the company I came to love for decades.
GM seats have been horrible for the last couple of years. They were causing me so much pain. I am glad someone else recognized it. I am considering moving to Ford F150 or a Tundra because the seats are so bad. Hopefully, they have changed them for 2023.
That empty button is hill descent control seen on the off-road packages
Am I the only one that thinks the Tundra is priced more competitively with regard to the Limited? I looked at getting a Silverado for the price of my limited ($56,509 out the door before tax) and their apples to apples had half the features. This High Country only has a few more options than my Tundra and it’s 12k more….
The new refresh on the Chevy blows the new tundra away. As a last gen tundra owner that I’m still driving a new tundra is out of the question for me. I think they totally botched the new tundra.
Tundra does look the same as the previous model. Gm integrated that nav screen so beautifully around the dash..
I’m betting the Tundra gets discontinued just like the Titan is.
I definitely don’t like Crome so prefer the RST trimmed Silverado
I also really like the FULL rubber mats that came with my LT all star
That’s why they make different trims. I like chrome bumpers and grills. LTZ is my fav trim
It would be interesting to hear about the individuals that the manufacturers are aiming for (demographics, income, and so forth). To me, unless you have the money (not a loan), they are both very expensive.
That fake button is where the front locker is on ZR2
Id prefer the chevy over the toyota. That said I will not buy either truck on the market till the prices come back to earth. So you folks that are spending $60k plus on a truck, please stop it. The more you buy the more the prices rise.
I just get past the front end on the Tundra, the side profile looks pretty good. You didn't mention the short windshield and low headroom on the Tundra, also something I can't get past. I'd have to go with the Chevy, I'd probably get a loaded RST though to minimize the shiny stuff. That said I've been very happy with the quality of my last two Rams, it's hard to try something different and risk having issues that you don't currently have, Been their and done that.
I'm surprised your last 2 rams have been trouble free. I have seen companies with fleets of them that have had Engine, Transmission, wiring Harness, fuel pump issues.
@@Boobtube. yea the ZF transmissions are pretty bullet proof from what I've scene and the Hemi engines are pretty reliable overall, I guess some have had manifold bolts break but that's all I've heard.
@@ohioguy4326 I've seen cam lobes wiped off, transmission issues, and wiring harness burning because exhaust to close.
Chevy trail Boss!
The problem is finding any of these trucks without some absolutely ridiculous market adjustment.
I like the Tundra styling better. You get the full rear window that rolls down, and you get the full panoramic moon roof. Similar in styling, the Silverado may have a few more bells and whistles, but to me, resale value and dependability matter most. Toyota always wins in that department.
I can just imagine the meetings at Chevy fighting over that one inch bump in the rear. The cost to make it completely flat must have been more than leaving the small bump.
Ford has had a flat floor for 10+ years , Ram and GM went flat/almost flat 3 years ago. You can spin it anyway you want but to me it’s lazy engineering in Toyota part especially for a brand new model. Go sit back there with your legs to your chest and see comfortable it is. Or if you have something you want to lay flat in rear. This new Tundra does a lot of things well , this is not a knock but that is just being cheap.
It's amazing how the Tundra was completely brand new in January and it's already worse than Ford, GM and Ram. The new GM interior is probably best in class, they did a great job. The Tundra still isn't a serious truck, it's great for guys who use to drive a Tacoma or who's wife has a corolla but real truck guys don't touch them.
I’m betting the Tundra and Sequoia are gone in 5 years or less. Toyota needs to concentrate on the 4R and Taco.
GM is putting out pure garbage right now. Trust me, I unfortunately know from personal experience.
Traded my 22 platinum tundra for a sierra slt best thing I ever did. That tundra is a trash bucket of plastic
Tim, not sure if it was on purpose, but around the 4:06 mark your are talking about the Silverado truck bed and then the camera switches to an interior shot of you changing the camera angle to show the truck bed and them back to you and the truck exterior... editing mistake? ;)
Your suspicions were correct. The starting price on the High County is $68,000. I built one to almost 80k 🙁
I’m a Chevy dude came to see the difference and I like the Chevy interior
I like the Tundra better.
I grew up outside the US where Toyota was king for reliability. Not sure how reliable the 2022 Tundra will be given its so new but the pedigree is there. That said, its a shame neither of these trucks have the equivalent of Ford's ProPower onboard. That alone, to me, makes the PowerBoost so much more attractive than any of the competitors. Such a missed opportunity here from both manufacturers.
Totally agree, also wish Toyota would make a 1 ton truck and a cargo van as well for commercial applications - that is truly a huge miss for them as reliability is top priority in the commercial vehicle segment
i got a 2022 colorado redline edition, v6, tow package,, the seats are ok, my 2016 silverado z71 ,, i liked the seats, we had a 2015 f-150,, hated those seats, my wife and i don't know why all the bitching about silverado's seats, ford's suck, chevy is way better
Traded my 22 tundra sr5 crew max trd off road for a 23 Silverado trail boss duramax.
Silverado is better in every way. Interior bigger and nicer, exterior has better approach angle and departure angle, bigger short bed on silverado 5ft 10 inch bed, smaller turn radius, diesel engine, front tow hooks, useable bumper and bumper steps for bed access. Build quality and fit and finish is much better than my 22 tundra.
I really don’t know what Toyota was thinking with the direction they took this tundra, making it smaller inside but longer outside and worse approach angle and turning radius and no front recovery hooks. Come on Toyota. All these small mistakes Toyota made with the new tundra that they need to address and I would consider them again for my next truck but at this point NO.
I'd pick my 2001 tundra over having a payment on a pos chevy. My tundra has 300k miles and still going strong so when the time comes I'll get another.
You should do some research on Toyota warranty claims and provide some stats on issues raised and Toyota's willingness to honor their warranties. Saw a video where a 2k warranty claim denied on a 22 Tundra leaking front axels due to a 2 inch levelling kit! Hmmm
Premium fuel (recommended by GM), a deal breaker w/o a doubt. I smell a new gas engine for GM in the oven.
If you want to tow, and go long distance, the Tundra will go the whole day on 32+ gallon tank.
The Silverado/Sierra with the 6.2 v8 will have to stop at least once with 24 gallon tank.
Tundra payload got thrown under the bus when they updated to comfy coil spring suspension. Silverado/Sierra will carry more, period.
Having a V8 / 25 gallon tank truck, and towing for last 21 days, the Tundra, in a >1700 lb payload config is going to be a far better towing truck than the new Silverado/Sierra. Why doesnt GM get that a truck with < 28 gallon tank is less than it needs to be?
The only weakness is the gas tank. You are right 24 gallons is a joke. My Honda Odyssey has nearly the same gas tank as the Sierra! This is why I love my Tundra V8. Fantastic turning radius and 38 gallons. I typically can go just over 600 miles on a tank with my Tundra which as a Regional Manager is exactly what I need because I can do 600 miles in a day depending on what part of my territory I am in, and not having to stop for gas is huge for me.
Thinking about trading in my 2020 Silverado for 2023 Tundra? Any thoughts, anyone?
So glad to hear GM has improved seat comfort.
They haven’t. It’s literally the same seats
Not correct. These are new seats.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I asked Chevy marketing. They told me same manufacturer, different exterior design.
@@impaul41 I asked Chevy’s chief engineer who designed the seats.
@@Pickuptrucktalk is it for all trims or is it just the ones that look different? Because I’ve sat in the 22 RST and LTZ and it’s the same. Just like the AT4 is the same but the AT4X looks different

Thanks for watching!
Silverado all day
I highly doubt that you will be able to get that Chevy for 68k. One thing that surprised me about the tundra was the use of plastic bumpers. Idk if this is normal for trucks today but it just seemed like an odd choice
Pedestrian safety impact crash standards. Its also why all cars have flimsy grills and soft hoods.
toyota ha composite beds too, the new tundra is fucking ugly
@@woofman4796 I actually think it looks great. And I take the composite bed over a non spray bed. I find it hilarious some trucks sell for over 60k but they have just paint protecting the bed. After a few months it’s a scratched up mess

Because it’s not enough to talk about.
Tundra seats are hideous. The Chevy has a better interior. I no longer buy full size trucks, so I went with a 2022 Nissan Pro4X. Completely satisfied with that choice.
Would like to have seen the capstone audio reading with the roof closed like the Chevy, I know it’s a lot quieter with the glass. It showing.
I still say the Silverado has the better looking interior. Toyota stopped caring about the interior after they mounted the BIG screen. Guess they thought the big screen would hypnotise everyone into buying it.
You get more standard features with the tundra. Chevy high country doesn’t come with adaptive cruise control, sr5 tundra has adaptive cruise control
@@mikec9077 Chevy has tow hooks, can Tundra say that?
yet still more reliable and better than chevy
Did the tundra change to put a neutral on the transfer case? If not you can’t flat tow it without destroying the trany.
Nope. You still can't flat tow a Tundra. It says so in the 2022 owner's manual.
The Tundra definitely looks smaller in person. I’d probably go with the Chevy for the V8, flat-ish floor, second worst front end. I’d def go Ford or Ram over both.
One thing I do like that Toyota implemented is the auto shutoff. In Toyota, you just press the brake a little harder to activate the shutoff. Otherwise, it won't shut off. My 2019 Sierra Denali was terrible. Sometimes it would be a smooth restart, sometimes it would make a clanging sound under the hood, sometimes it wouldn't respond to the gas being pressed, and other times it would jump out the gate. Yes, there's a button but I found myself forgetting to turn it off every time.
GM junk lol 😆 😂
Awkward. Got an advertisement for Ford during this.
😂
Toyota /Lexus cabin used to be the most quality, what is going on . Hard to deal with this , glad I kept my 18 with a trans cooler. Either way not sure I like this new stuff , but I like and thank you for this review!
I will take whichever truck that is available with a regular cab long bed, Silvetado it is.
It gets even worse for the Tundra, I’ve seen that Limited going for +70k after dealer markups
The same could be said for the chevy, at least where I am. Plus, the Chevy quality wont match the Tundra in terms of longevity and resale value.
After Ford's big court loss yesterday in regards to the roof collapsing killing that elderly couple, there may be a relook on roof structure and panoramic roofs
I saw that. One heck of a verdict!
@@Pickuptrucktalksure was and I bet the lawyers and engineers inside the big three are having some water cooler chats about this one
Tundra. Like the Chevrolet's improved interior but my hunch is that the Tundra will remain the more reliable truck and have a lower total cost of ownership over time.
I am a current previous generation Tundra owner. I disagree that this new 2023 Tundra is built with the same quality and will be as reliable as the last generation. Toyota as a company has been outa sorts the past couple of years it seems.
Car companies love these high profit making trucks...Silverado has a nicer tray and is $140,000 in Australia...the Tundra is coming here in another year and will be popular as well
Is there any real differences between a Chevy Silverado and a GMC Sierra?
Interior finishes and exterior design. Plus, some of the GM trucks offer a diesel and/or more powerful engine where Chevy doesn't.
I want the tu dra so bad but as a hot shot truck that's a big nope.
The most important part of the video is “[The tundra] is a little dirty, sorry. We actually do use this truck quite a bit.” Nuff said.
I also suck at detailing. LOL
I noticed you said you have a 2 inch leveling kit on your Toyota. I just viewed a video where Toyota will not warranty a lift modification. Is that your understanding as well?
Best current gas v8 engine available in any truck on the road right now would be the Ford 7.3 liter v8 pushrod, port injected engine.
5.7 in the tundra hands down, not even close
@@TonyTundra5.7 I agree with that. I've had my 5.7 tundra for 14yrs. Tundra v8's are no longer manufactured. That leaves the pushrod v8 from ford. Port injected and no cylinder deactivation. Solid old school technology. Hard to beat that IForce v8 though.
Tundra is a very fast and strong truck it is a monster
All made in USA, but I like Chevy Silverado much, just like GM, no reason
Chevrolet assembles a portion of its Silverados in Mexico, cheaper wages equals a cheaper truck. If you want made in America you have to get the Tundra! The Tundra is currently the most American made truck available!
So you think the Silverado at 9k more is still underpriced? Really? It would be a better comparison if you had a higher trimmed Tundra.
All trucks are overpriced now, but I think the Limited Tundra trim you get the best bang for your buck. Would’ve been better if the out the Iforcemax engine in there.
Trust me, neither is underpriced
One thing ima say is if only tundra made 2500 and 3500 like Chevy ford and dodge then they would be up their but as far as for construction hauling heavy shi Chevy and ford wins
I was wondering which package you need to get on your limited that gives you sequential turn signals? 2022 thanks.

The Tundra nose is a full foot of UGLY! I can barely tolerate the look of the Chevy, but the Tundra was just beat down with a big ugly stick!
Capstone or platinum? 🤔
I'd be in the GM with the Duramax
Yeah...No. This is not a comparison at all. His tundra cost $59K because he had the $3K TRD off-road package on it. So he is really comparing a $68K (base) High Country to a $56K Tundra. I agree with some other folks that the 1794 or Platinum is more of a better comparison to the High Country, but I get it Tim does not have that. The Capstone is more expensive than the High Country for sure (well at least the one he was sent) but it blows that Chevy out of the water. And you know what...my 2022 TRD Pro has a button that turns on/off my parking sensors that actually works. At least Toyota is delivering vehicles that have all the promised features functional and not sending the vehicle to market telling the consumer "sorry, I know you wanted/order 'X' feature, but because of the chip shortage you don't get it." What?
I have a question what truck last longer 🤔 anyone

Silverado seem so much luxury ✨️ to me.
I wouldn't get a Silverado for long term. Everyone I know has issues with them and all are 2013 and newer.
Everyone? That wouldn't be an exaggeration would it? All of them have issues. For example?
Everyone? I guess my 2013 Silverado, 2018 GMC Sierra and 2021 Chevy Silverado must be the exceptions…lol. And to be fair, before that I had 2 good Fords but the 3rd one happened to be a multiple problem lemon…hence my run with GM. I think we all need to realize our own brand loyalty often has to do with our personal experiences…. I know my family had a bias against Rams…but it appears they now make excellent trucks by most accounts.
@@danielsuszek6405 agreed, most of us only know what we have seen or experienced. RAM is not all that. I have seen fleets that have nothing but problems with them. Toyota, Chevy, Ford, Ram all have issues. It all comes down to personal preference and how much of the negative we can put up with.
@@danielsuszek6405 Yeah, I agree. I own the previous generation Tundra. I love it, keeping it, but would never buy the new 2023 Tundra, and I do not think they are built with the same quality as the last generation. I also think that quality has improved in trucks from the Big 3, but like you say people love to see issues with the competition to their favorite brand. Each maker has had quality issues and occasional recalls from time to time, even Toyota. Today, I am looking at the new Silverado Trail Boss with the 3.0 diesel. No way I would ever touch the 2023 Tundra.
thats the ugliest silverado ive seen in a while. Didnt expect to say that. gmc and silverados have had the best looking exteriors for a couple years now but that one is butt ugly. The tundra looks way better next to it.
Also...as someone who was born and raised off road...auto 4x4 is a stupid feature
Chevy repairs ratings🤣 no thanks. Tundra all day every day. Should’ve put a platinum or 1794 next to that shop princess
I would always choose the Chevy.
People complained that the gm trucks were plasticky and uninspiring this is what i think of the tundra ! and the touch screen is hideous ! there will always be more gm trucks on the road than any other !
Compare with the Hybrid Tundra.
Just saw and test drove both Silverado RST and tundra platinum. Really wanted to like the tundra but Not impressed with tundra. Silverado interior is much better in terms of design and build quality. Tundra was so plasticky. Even pressing the unlock/lock button, you hear a bunch of plastic clacking together. Also the center console was super plasticky on tundra. Then I saw the 10mpg on tundra, granted it was a demo and it was probably pushed a lot and idled a lot. Ordering myself a diesel Silverado
Toyota projected to loose 1.7 billion in 2022 not sustainable???
