😯😯!!! Shows you how the Rock and Roll Fame has sold out to the cash register a long time ago. We need to stop revering them as the end all and be all of rock and roll music history. it's not a national park, official USA museum, or treasure, it's a profit machine that bends which ever way the wind blows [mostly a lot of hot air] that makes the cash register go "ca-ching." The "roll" in their name is the bankroll.

Probably because although they are a great band they are essentially they’re a cover band.

    • @NoName-fx9zi
      @NoName-fx9zi 9 месяцев назад +2

@@RenR70the vast majority of hit songs are usually written and originally recorded by somebody other than the artist who made it popular later. Technically, Elvis was a cover artist. He never wrote any of his own music, he was just lucky to usually be the first to put the songs on recording.

    • @RenR70

@@NoName-fx9zi I hear what you’re saying but it’s not the same thing, there has always been producers/songriters & artists who sing/perform those songs. Thats different than a band doing remakes.

This was a cover song by "Three dog night"
The song was originally written for the play "Hair". Which later became a movie. The play debuted in 1967.
The song was not meant as an anti-war song. The song in the play is sung by a woman who is wondering how her hippie boyfriend can be so cruel and indifferent to her and their young son, while he makes a big deal about fighting against evil and social injustice.

You're right Angela, it is a very powerful, yet heartbreaking and profound testimony to the most evil that people can think of even from back then in the sixties as I was there as a teenager, actually 17. In the many decades since that time. Every time I hear and see about cruelty like that, so often it brings me back to this song by Three Dog Night, and with Chuck Negrons sweet but yet powerful voice. He did many great hits for the group. But this one is probably the most profound, and you are right it is a very extremely sad song. And he was the right man for that tune and that time and even now. Your young lady have hope, in time this will also pass with the mass Carnage of suicide and take it so many with them.

One of Three Dog Night's very best songs. 50 years ago, the younger generation was still trying to change the world through musical art that expressed positive messages that encouraged us all to love and respect one another. My old boss was Graham Nash of CSN and he regarded this as practically the whole purpose of his life, he truly believed in it. Plus, the music on the radio was filled with musical messages like this. Naturally, it was a hard fought battle with the older generation and the "establishment" and the hippies made our mark, but we didn't win. But there was a time back then that it seemed like a lot of changes for the betterment of all was possible.

He was treated poorly bullied at school and on the bus. I was shy but my best friend brought this young man to my house. We became best friends. We called him Jim O, he would tell me stories of China and He was the coolest kid. This song was popular and my older brother, best friend. And me took his cause on to protect him. This was over fifty years ago and I have wondered how his life has gone. If I could talk to him, I would tell him I loved him because he was so different.

In the 60's and 70's, music was our version of social media, which is why so much of it dealt with politics and other social issues.

On one hand, I see the tragedy that the "love each other regardless of anything else" message hasn't gotten through to all humans, and on the other hand that we need to still encourage each other and that type of thinking, that we still make that our intention. Peace and Love to all humans. Within your self and outside of your self.

Love this song. Interesting side note. This song was the opening from the movie Zodiac which was about the Zodiac killer who operated in the time period this song was popular in the late 60’s.

Angela is not bad to feel emotional with this song. The words are strong deep and speaks of difficult times back then and it also relates to our times now in a turmoil world filled with hate wars and lack of love towards one another. Singers back then sang and wrote songs from the heart not just to fill an album or profit from it. You are a strong young woman and may Gods blessings be with you always keep your humbleness always I have great respect for you and love your response to music from all generations👍👌

Have a listen to 'Out in the Country'. One of the original songs about pollution and the degradation of our planet. I saw them 5 or 6 times live. Their concerts were always a great experience. Excellent music, lyrics and wonderful playing of the musical instruments. Their vocals were instruments in and of themselves. A great band who are underappreciated in my opinion.

Great reaction...this is the correct reaction for this song...we joined the Columbia club deal in 69 where we got like 10 albums for a dollar and we had this album...also listen to "Mama told me Not to come" ...another wonderful hit from 3 dog night. Btw...their name means when's it so cold at night sleeping in the wilderness that you need three dogs to keep you warm.

Angela, this is a rabbit you need to go down. Sweetheart, they ruled the airways from the late sixties into the early 70s. Literally!! Believe it or not some of their songs were written by people like Hoyt Axton and other country artists. Believe it!! They put their music to the lyrics. Some of the music is very heartfelt. You just got a very small taste of it. Like i said, please please go down that rabbit hole; you won't regret it. I am just lucky to be a teenager during the time they came out. Thank you so very much!!😉👍🙏

This song is from the stage/screen musical "Hair". It is not specifically an anti-war song, but protest songs were in the air back then, and all of "Hair" fits into that time of youth rebellion and protest. On stage/screen, this song was not sung by Three Dog Night, so the band is not the "original" artist per se. However, Three Dog Night had the hit with this song.

Angela, you are spot-on that this song is relevant today. Human nature has, unfortunately, not changed since 1969. There is a RUclips video of a radio monologue by the late commentator Paul Harvey, from 1965, titled "If I Were the Devil." Whoever posted it added images to Mr. Harvey's words. The things described in that brief piece (about 3 minutes) are both interesting and a bit chilling in 2023; much of what's described is happening today. Not for the channel, but check it out for yourself it you like.

It's not just an anti-war song. Remember the line about "people who care about social injustice." The song was also in support of the civil rights and women's rights movements.

Actually, it wasn't an anti war, but more like a social statement about some who forget that charity starts in the home. to take care of those around you instead of making of show that you care about 'concepts or clarion calls' without helping those literally within your reach. hope this helps. social issues are not new to songs, but this group was a powerful voice in the 60's and 70's, and the 3 vocalist all had amazing range, power, and dare I say, soul! even if you dont do videos on all of their songs, they are worth the listen, IMO. and I grew up then. :)
