-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... Кино
Written by Laura Nyro!
They would love Laura's "And When I Die" performed by Blood, Sweat & Tears!! How have they not done BS&T!
She's one of my favorite singer/songwriters. These guys should do the original after the cover!
And a vastly superior version.
@@surlechapeau Then NEED to do BS&T, hopefully from the first album. The drumming is AMAZING on it.
She was amazing!!!
Their rendition of "One" is a vocal masterpiece.
Yes it is 👍
Yup, One is phenomenal. Starts soft and really takes off.
A neat listening would be to pair TDN vs. Aimee Mann takes on "One"
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands.
Agreed, Chuck had one of the greatest voices in rock, and “ One “ showed his range. Such a shame how his career got ruined by drugs, and even greater shame the rest of the band wouldn’t let him come back after he got clean. I saw them several times back then, mostly at festivals, and they were awesome
Please, please, please do "One". Please.
The bar was set so high back then, everything was fresh and new and the level of creativity has never been duplicated
Agree
Modern 'artists' must have run out of notes because there is just no truly great music any more.
After the late 1990's, music is just crap. The best is 60's, 70's 80's
You are so right - great memories.
Yes
The one that hits with that 'rougher' vocals is Liar. Seriously. Liar is what you are looking for.
Probably the darkest song they do and my favorite
Could not agree more! It makes you think of lies you told that you shouldn't have. Which means all of them and all of us! Fantastic banger!
Great song and a great group!
"Hangin' on anyway, believing the things you say. Being a fool."
Just about everybody can relate to that.
Oooooo
Good one!
Liar is another hard banger by them, if that's what you want. But do not ever sleep on their mellow stuff, they are bangers in their own way.
I was expecting this to be Liar. Liar is definitely a banger!
Yes, definitely need to do Liar.
"Easy to be Hard" just devastates me every time... and "Out in the Country" is an amazing vibe, absolutely.
@@kimrivera5302 out in the country is one of my all time favorites
Saw a documentary a while back where they said "Liar" was recorded in a gas station bathroom because the vocalist really liked the acoustics for the song.
I swear you two are the only reviewers who don’t stop the song midway for some inane comment.
It’s one of the main things that keeps bringing me back. Along with the musical insights and the sheer joy you both have in discovering new music.
Part of the reason other reactors pause in the songs is because they are reacting to videos, rather than just audio -- and with videos, if you just play it straight through, the video will get blocked.
@@DJHolte virtually all the ones I’ve watched in the past month have been purely audio. They just can’t keep their mouths shut for more than 30 seconds. It’s probably my biggest pet hate.
@@CycolacFan So much of the effect of a song is lost when it's stopped every 10-30 seconds. Music is meant to be listened to all at once. Pausing it so often to add in commentary is like splitting up a movie by watching ten minutes a day over the course of a week and a half. You aren't able to immerse yourself in the media.
MOST I confront about pausing say they interrupt the song to keep it from getting blocked. That doesn't work. If the algorithms detect 3 seconds of Beatles then it will get blocked. Led Zeppelin tracks are strict too.
Other reaction hosts I visit often and who do not pause include "BroAction" and "justJP". Give them a look.
Agreed!
Three songs by Three Dog Night that immediately come to mind are "One," "Easy to be Hard," and "Just an Old - Fashioned Love Song." I think "One" was their first hit.
Yes, I like all 3 even more than this one
"Out In The Country", "The Family Of Man", and "Easy To Be Hard", are three more Three Dog Night songs that you two may enjoy!
Out in the Country is my favorite song by them.
@@waitn4theharpazo Mine too! 👍It was written by Paul Williams.
I third that emotion. Out In the Country my favorite, too.
Great choices, especially "Out In the Country." I would add "Liar" -- a rocking, *menacing* song!
Shambala
There is an old live version of this from a television show that has an extended opening where each of the vocalists take turns singing acapella , leading in to the rest of the song - well worth checking out .
Easy to Be Hard - another favorite of mine that you definitely need to check out
Thank you for this tip. Just watched it now. Wow! How lucky we were to be around for that amazing tv show, Soundstage?? Produced by PBS in Chicago!!
ruclips.net/video/0CuNBengxaQ/видео.html
I posted nearly the same thing -- I hadn't seen your post before I did or I would have just hit the thumbs up here.
I know I am late, but was the live version from The Midnight Soecial?
My personal favorite of theirs is "Easy To Be Hard", yet they were so loaded with talent that everything they grabbed was fire.
Have a great day!
My favorite also....
One of their best.
My favorite too.
Unfortunately, talent wasn't quite all they were loaded with, and it caused the breakup of one of the best bands I've ever seen, or heard. I saw them in the early '70's and Chuck Negron was so high that he didn't even know where he was. It was sad to witness such a senseless waste of God-given talent! ☮✌
You have to check out their version of "One", it was written by Harry Nilsson. Also, you have to do "Black and White" by them.
Black and White for sure!
Sorry, Nilsson
One and lair the ones I've listened to for 50 years
@@jiffin1 Nilsson, schmilsson…
@@jiffin1 You are correct.
"One" is fantastic (and to pique your interest further: written by Harry Nilsson).
Maybe my favorite from them. Glad you did the studio version. I like "Liar" as well.
Oh definitely Liar! Awesome song
Liar is yet another great one from their deep library of hits.
Liar is a true banger
A&A, Liar is a great banger by by Three Dog Night. It deserves to be check out.
I wish someone would react to Liar! It is one of their best, IMHO.
Remember. These guys have 3 lead singers! Still not a common finding. Each one them are fabulous. Together, they soar!
I tried to think of a quick "who else has that?" So far all I came up with was The Band and The Eagles. I'm sure I missed several, but this was a first think, first serve kind of thing.
@@mikep6222 Styx also has three lead singers.
@@ScottKornfeld The more I thought about it, I'm sure this list could go on for quite some time.
@@mikep6222 Yes, CSN (& sometimes Y) occurred to me right after I finished.
Also there was a British band, a foursome that was fab. Started with B, I forget the name.
I love all their songs with Cory Wells singing lead. They do a great cover of "Try a Little Tenderness" with him singing lead.
I'd have to go with that, if I were forced to choose a "best". A highlight of the Live album.
Rare to call a cover a "masterpiece", but in performance terms, this surely is one.
"Live at the Forum" of this song is the absolute best version.
All the singers were great but to me Cory Wells was the best by far.
And yes, someone recommended that you check out "ONE" by these guys, and I concur. Written I believe by HARRY NILSSON, whose version is every bit as good as theirs, or better. Check it out.
Yes! Do both versions of "One"!!!
Another excellent example of their vocal power is “Easy To Be Hard” from 1969.
Yes, I love their version of that song.
I never get tired of watching the 1975 live version, it showcases each one's voice so well and then they speed it up and just have a blast with it, it's a hoot. Wish you could react to that one too.
There is a live performance of "Eli"s Coming" on RUclips that features an extended version of the opening vocals. Each of their three main vocalsits take a turn and each adds their touch and tries to hold the notes a little longer than the last. It is fantastic -- wish I could have been in the audience.
Worthy of its own reaction.
Everyone needs to go out and watch this now if they haven't seen it. BEST song by them. The extended opening showcasing their individual vocals is fantastic - I ripped it to mp3, even though it isn't exactly CD quality, because it's so good. I'm continually amazed how reaction videos continually and skillfully AVOID this wonderful performance!
Soundstage 1975 it was
You need to see this live in their live version to truly appreciate and see their vocal talents as individual vocalists. It blows the studio version away.
They were a hell of a live band. I got to see them in the 70s and it was an excellent show (opened by The Kingsman, of "Louie, Louie" fame). I will never forget being totally mesmerized by the keyboard player, who they introduced as The Wizard, in Merlin the Magician robes. He had a five or ten minute showcase of Hammond prowess that has stuck with me through the decades.
@@GoldTopSlinger *faints with envy*
The people who grew up listening to 3DN are so glad you enjoy their songs. You have a lot more to go thru as well. We were so blessed to have a multitude of groups like 3DN to listen to growing up! "Easy to be Hard" and "Out in the Country" are great songs too.
The live version is twice as long. Three great lead singers backed by an incredible band.
A&A, You'll love their "Black And White", "One" and "An Old Fashioned Love Song" !!!
True
One is great but the other two are cringe
@@lloydbraun6026 Old Fashioned was written by Paul Williams, nuff said. Black and White is a good tune, but definitely not what A&A are looking for.
But I also think they’ll enjoy One
You should definitely hear their version of Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness. These guys were so great. All three singers had awesome voices but you need to hear the soul in Corey Wells voice on Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come. Sooo Good!!!
Cory Wells the Best
@@JeffSkymaster Could not agree more with you.
"An Old Fashioned Love Song", "Try a little tenderness", "I will serenade you", "Pieces of April", and of course Hoyt Axton's best "Joy to the World"
Pieces of April!!
Three Three Dog favorites of mine are this song, "One" and "Liar".
That live video of one is greatest vocal harmony I've ever heard and lair is the best rock song they have kinda dark for them a total switch in styles great tune
Liar!
Back in a the day we kind of took them for granted. They always had a top hit out and we just expected that level of talent all the time.
A song I had forgotten by Three Dog Night was "One Man Band" from the "Naturally" album. It only charted to about #19 in the U.S. but I remember hearing it on the radio a lot. Once you get past the top-tier suggestions like "One" and "Liar", it would be a good cut to check out.
I agree!
Definitely "One Man Band", and "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)" are reaction worthy.
One is my favorite, but Joy to the World brings such happy childhood memories!
🐸🍷❤🌏
"Just and Old Fashion Love Song" might be their most iconic hit. Became part of the 70s soundtrack regardless of your musical leanings.
That song and Joy To The World. Iconic is right.
yep.
My favorite Three Dog Night song is Celebrate. It is just all around cool and showcases their voices in harmony masterfully.
I think you guys would also enjoy their version of “Try a Little Tenderness “.
Probably my favorite by them.
Try a Little Tenderness has THE BEST vocal performance of any 3DN song. This one is close, though.
I'm a friend of Chuck Negron's, and he and Danny had the most amazing vocal range maybe ever! And when you add Cory to the mix, that's what made them the best three part harmony. It's too bad you didn't play the live version. It's one of the most amazing performances you'll ever witness. It's like they took you to church! That's just one of the reasons they outsold every performer and group from 1969 to 1974. And this choice of a song written by the great Laura Nyro was perfect for them. Another great song they did was the Harry Nilsson penned tune "One" which was sung solo by Chuck in 1969. He really showcased his amazing vocal range.
I was a kid if the sixties. Three Dog Night was a favorite from then to now.
Was amazing! On Soundstage 1975! One of the best vocal performances ever!
Okay, please tell us EVERYTHING!!!!! Please-&-thank-you.
I've lost track of all the great songs Laura Nyro wrote. But still, easy to be hard is my favorite three dog night song. I think it was taken from the musical hair. The guys singing on easy to be hard, is on another level.
"Out In The Country" is a good one for a change of pace. I never knew that was Three Dog Night until many years later!
Such a great BAND (not just the 3 superb singers) and they should be in the Rock and,Roll Hall of Fame. Check out the live version!
its just sick who is in the RRHOF and who isn’t
Their live version of this song will blow you away!!!!
An INCREDIBLE band that deserves to be in the Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!!
Check out "Liar" and "Out in the Country". Also try a much later cut from the early 80's called "It's a Jungle Out There".
Golden Biscuits
Check out Laura Nero’s original version of this song. She had a fantastic voice.
Personally, I prefer the cover versions of her songs but she was an utterly amazing writer.
Big Laura Nyro fan here. Loved her original version the best.
Though 3 Dog Night's version is good, people really should listen to Laura's version: it is much more of a roller coaster ride than this version.
GREAT song!! I still love the silly “The Show Must Go On.” Great Jr. High memories.
"Walkin' on the wire...highhhh wire"
A&A “Play something sweet” (Brickyard Blues) is a serious banger from 3 Dog Night. I was blessed to see them with Chuck Negron 2 shows in a row! Music personified 😎
The organ and piano work well together. I know people dis 3 Dog Night because they didn't write their songs, but they were MASTERFUL interpreters of the songs they sang. I don't think they should be dissed. The vocal work is amazing. YES, "they could cover your song and blow you out of the water!!" Nice review guys!
I agree, a musician is a musician whether they wrote their own songs or not.
Unlike most "cover bands", they mostly covered songs that had failed to do well on the charts--basically, all-but-unknown songs--and then they adapted the songs to suit their own sound and tap into the zeitgeist of popular music. Usually creating a monster hit in the process.
@@joelhahn2501 Good for them!!
Yep. Their versions were usually MUCH better than the originals.
This is crazy cuz I just recently did a deep dive into Laura Nyro after watching a Stoned Soul Picnic video, she was a great talent.
Yes she was. And very under valued for her contributions to music.
I saw this group as the opening act for the Rolling Stones in 1969 at Forum in Los Angeles.....and they got 3 standing ovations and played another hour before the Rolling Stones came out!!!!!
They took over where the Beatles left off in the commercial pop/rock genre. "
From 1969-1974, nobody had more Billboard Top 10 hits, moved more records, or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night. During this period, they were undoubtedly the most popular band in America, with 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, 18 straight Top 20s, 11 Top 10s, 3 U.S. number ones, 7 million-selling singles and 12 straight Gold LPs. By late 1975 they had sold nearly 50 million records."
Several more good Three Dog Night songs:
"Easy to be Hard"
"One"
"Black and White"
"An Old Fashioned Love Song"
"Celebrate"
"Try a Little Tenderness" (Otis Redding made this song famous)
Agreed wholeheartedly!!!!
Chest Fever
Have you not heard shambala???
@@spence7985 they already reacted to it, so I didn't suggest it.
@@bobrob2004 my bad
Their cover of Try A Little Tenderness is truly funky! Many artists have covered that one, but none better than these guys! One Man Band and Liar are also worth a review.
There are so many live versions of Eli's Coming that are crazy! Never the same each time. And they highlight and extend certain parts. All three singers go off at times.
Live, Soundstage, 1975 - it’s on RUclips.
OUT IN THE COUNTRY, one of their best early tunes.
One of the absolute best vocal and songvwriting groups from the 70s and critically, unbelievably under appreciated. I love this group so much. Great car riding group to listen to...
Now PLEASE do some Blood Sweat and Tears..."I Can't Quit Her" since they have the same vibe with horns and jazz
Do almost ANY BS&T. They have not hit them yet.
You two really need to hear their cover of Otis Redding's song try a little tenderness..........so freaking good ✌️
Yes! This.
So true!
Great version!
My favorite version of that song. Cory Wells performance 😮😮😮
Yes, it was on Soundstage 1975!
It was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
'One' is the song written by your boy Nielsen... it's fantastic! This should be called Eli's brutal!
Nilsson........Schmilsson
If you want to be blown away, lister to their version of “Try a Little Tenderness”. Cory Wells’ vocals are insane!
He was Amazing
There is a LIVE version of this on YT and it is 7 minutes long... and AMAZING! Cory is the lead singer on this one and he kills it.
Three Dog Night's covers are a freaking gold mine: Joy To The World (A), Easy To Be Hard (A-), Family Of Man (B), Old Fashioned Love Song (A-), Shambala (A-), Let Me Serenade You (B), Never Been To Spain (A-), Black And White (A), Liar (B+), Out In The Country (S, my mellow fave), One Man Band (B+), One (A+), and Celebrate (A-)!
Easy to Be Hard is an A+ banger ballad for me!
Shambala is A+ all the way
@@fmtalks1386 Chuck's vocals were incredible!
“The devil’s work” indeed! Well said! Early TDG is incredibly soulful. This album, and their first “One” album (first album I ever bought). You MUST listen to their cover of “Try A Little Tenderness”, sung by the late, great Cory Wells. Go for it! 😎🎶❤
"Eli's Coming" was a top #10 hit from 1969. The same year they two even bigger hits, "One" and "Easy To Be Hard" (the Broadway play "Hair").
Talking about blowing opening acts off the stage: Three Dog Night opened for Steppenwolf on a tour in 1969 that was being recorded for a live Steppenwolf album. When the tour played the LA Forum, Three Dog Night's set was also recorded, and was so good that it was released as a live album (Captured Live At The Forum) months before Steppenwolf's live album came out - and it was awarded a gold record.
Old Fashioned Love song is definitely an excellent tune from them
Recommending "Out in the Country" by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. Their sweetest, and recalls the days when we worried about "the ecology."
Never Ever get tired of this band. Loved them then. Still do!!!
You need to hear ‘One’. Probably their second biggest hit after ‘Joy to the World’. And also ‘Easy to be Hard’. Both great songs. To think you were unaware of this band not long ago.
A++
Nice cover. The original is an absolute Classic by Laura Nyro off of one of the best singer-songwriter albums ever - Eli and the 13th Confession.
It was and still is an amazing album!
Opinions are something everybody has, but Laura Nyro's recording of this song is far superior to TDN. Her soul is totally exposed with her incredible vocal. One of the best performances of the era.
Told ya that was the banger! Just wonderful guys. As mentioned previously, there are many more you’d love. One and Easy To Be Hard are one’s I’d especially like to see.
Yes! Easy To Be Hard from the musical Hair is a must; vocally and lyrically powerful and as relevant today as it was in the '60s.
Having checked out your previous TDN reviews, you've probably now covered their most "banger" tunes. You can't go wrong listening to their softer stuff though. "Liar" and "One" are incredible. Personal favorites of mine not already mentioned or in your reaction catalog include "Pieces of April" and "Old Fashioned Love Song".
“ Pieces of April “ is a beautiful song
Hardly anyone mentions Pieces of April. It's a favorite of mine.
Probably the best vocal trio in the history of vocal trio's. There's a live version of this on RUclips somewhere you should check out.
You will realize why Cory Wells was the front piece of this amazing group. ( Even with the hokey bell bottoms 🤣) 👏👏🤠
Search for "Three Dog Night Soundstage 1975" and you'll get all of the songs from that performance. Must-see TV!
TDN are great, but best ever, do I need to point out that the Bee Gees are a trio.
@@alfredlandesman5165 agreed, but then again, TDN never did disco.😁🕺

We appreciate you and your generation keeping this alive. 👍👍
I've always liked "Liar".
My favorite cover of "Try a Little Tenderness", was by Three Dog Night.
Out of curiosity, have you heard St Paul and the Broken Bones cover? Video on RUclips
Saying this is the best TDN song (maybe) is a matter of opinion of course! Try Celebrate, Out In The Country, One, Try A Little Tenderness, there are still many great songs by them to react to!!
Cory just tears up Try A Little Tenderness!! Great 3DN song!
Also check out Laura Nyro's original version.
Love Laura incredible talent phenomenal songwriter
Incredible legend❤
I listened with an open mind.. a spirited, fun recording - not a patch on Laura Nyro's original though. I feel like her version sounds even more intense and unhinged than this. Check it out!
Laura Nyro really doesn’t get the applause and accolades from the masses she deserves.
Laura Nyro was such a great song writer. Guy's if you get a chance check her "Stoney End" , either her own version , Barbara Streisand's version or any of the other covers out there of that great song.
If they ever do check out Barbra Streisand (I say it's OK if they do and OK if they don't), "Stoney End" is the song of hers that I recommend that they start with.
@@otisdylan9532 Even if they don't want to check her out for some reason many people covered "Stoney End" some are Linda Ronstadt , Peggy Lipton, The Blossoms , The Chicks , Paper Lace (The band that did The Night Chicago Died ) and The Fifth Dimension even did a Laura Nyro medley that included Stoney End.
@@bigb6046 Yes, The Fifth Dimension apparently really liked Nyro,as two of their biggest hits - "Stoned Soul Picnic" and Wedding Bell Blues" were Nyro compositions.

Last time you did 3 Dog Night, I went on a 3 Day binge. This is a going to church song for sure. Awesome. Please do Out in the Country next.
Another banger of theirs is, "Liar". No one ever reacts to it, and I don't understand why? Maybe you'll be the first? I hope so!
"Eli's Coming" is definitely one of Three Dog Night's great songs but I like all of them. Some other favorites are "One", "Just An Old fashioned Love Song", "Try A Little Tenderness", "Easy To Be Hard", "The Show Must Go On", "Black & White", "Out In The Country", "Liar" etc.
"One", written by Harry Nilsson.
My first concert in the fall of 1970. Having 3 lead singers was unheard of.
Never heard this??? How did “One” get skipped over????
Yes, "One" should be next.
THEY WERE MY FAVORITE BAND IN THE 70'S
Other 3DN bangers are Liar and Fire Eater, a little known tune from the Naturally album. On the other side, Easy To Be Hard, Out in the Country and Pieces of April are beautiful songs.
After hearing the live version of this, now the studio version seems so short and condensed. If you want to really appreciate this song, I say take the long version.
ruclips.net/video/0CuNBengxaQ/видео.html
You should try "One" if you want a banger.
Check out a live version of this - they are a trip!🔥
Absolutely!
A &A choose the one with the footlights running around the stage perimeter.
They charted 21 straight releases on the top 40 in the seventies. Best vocals of the era.
When I was a performing musician from the 70's through the 90's, there was a new club owner for whom we performed who adored TDN. We even had to learn a couple of their tunes just for her and she vowed that one day she would have them perform at her club. It really was not a big place, maybe 125-150 max capacity but she finally made it happen and brought them in for a one night show. I didn't attend but the place was packed and oversold as I recall, a complete mess although she finally saw her wish come true. Unfortunately it also broke her; the place went out of business about a month later. I guess trading her business one night for a Three Dog Night was worth it for her? 🤩🤣
Yes! And you will also like their cover of a Lennon/McCartney song called, "It's For You". Especially if you like hand claps!! Again, 3DN back in the day was one of the best live bands I've ever experienced! Their voices and the entire back-up band. Dig that keyboard work! I'm throwin' my hands up in the air!! Needed a little energy to cope with the heat so Thanks!!
It's such a great song, but it's so short it might not fill up an entire review by itself.
This, please. Thanks.
@@joelhahn2501 right, it is short. Still so good!!
Easy to be Hard is masterful as well as their cover of Otis Redding’s Try a Little Tenderness. They may have made made it theirs. Anyway, these two are a must. And Danny Hutton’s haunting vocals on Liar…Oof!
"Try a Little Tenderness" is a song written by Jimmy Campbell, Reg Connelly, and Harry M. Woods. In 1932. Recorded by many, including Bing Crosby in 1933.
Harry Woods, born with a deformed left hand, worked hard to overcome it and learn to play the piano. He was a tough guy to get a line on. Legend has it that Woods, after consuming a large quantity of alcohol, once exchanged heated words with a man in a nightclub. The argument escalated into a physical fight with Woods pinning the man to the floor while hitting him with his right hand and bashing him in the face with the stump of his left hand. When police arrived at the club and arrested Woods, a woman entered the club and asked, "Who is that horrible man?". Still seated at the bar, a friend of the composer proudly announced, "That's Harry Woods. He wrote 'Try a Little Tenderness'."
This is one of, if not the best video reaction you've dropped! So many great analogies; "supermodel in a campground" is my favorite.
Great job guys!
"Woman" by Three Dog Night should be the next song that you guys should react to!!!! and it was not a hit but it was a "Banger"
Said it before and just have to repeat it: the focus always seems to be on the three singers and yes, they were very good! But the four men in the band behind them were really, really good!
My very first concert 3 Dog Night and Chuck Berry!🥰👍🏻❤️👌
This hits on all cylinders. You got the late great Cory Wells with the beautiful and powerful lead, Danny Hutton on the walk walk parts and Chuck Negron on the high parts and all three on perfect harmonies. Plus they had a great band, with this featuring their awesome keyboards. I think I bruised my legs from doing thigh piano back in the day! 😂
The live version is pretty good as well. It wasn't all studio magic. The two biggest upstaged moment I saw were when Focus upstaged Joe Cocker and when Ides of March upstaged both Iron Butterfly and Led Zeppelin in the same concert. Laura Nyro was one hell of a good songwriter.
Give a listen to 3DN's version of "Liar" written by Russ Ballard who was lead guitar / piano & sometimes lead vocals for Argent. Later in the 80's Russ had another hit "Voices" 1984 featured on Miami Vice.
For a softer sound, try their Pieces of April
I love, love, love this song. I'm so glad you hit it. If you get a chance it's well worth seeing their live version.
Yay!! “one” next please!! love you guys. ❤️🔥
