-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.c...
Next Three Dog Night songs to hit:
- “Eli’s Coming”
- “Liar”
- “One”
- “Easy to be Hard”
- “”Out in the Country”
- “Pieces of April”
- “Never Been to Spain”
- “Joy to the World”
- “Just an Old Fashioned Love Song”
- “Family of Man”
Great list. Eli's Coming should be the next song they react to. The rest belong on the RUclips channel as well except Liar. Not a big fan of Liar, but it is worth a deep cut reaction.
Eli's Coming LIVE!!
@@Live2swim yes the live performance is gold
Great list. I would add "One Man Band", "Black and White", "Show Must go On", and "I Can Hear you Calling"
@@Vonlang001 Definitely "One Man Band" and "I Can Hear You Calling". "Naturally" is my favorite TDG album. I still listen to it.
Never Been to Spain or Joy To The World. Phenomenal hits that put a smile on people's faces.
both written by hoyt axton ;)
Both written by Hoyt Axton. Knew the man. Such a great person. RIP
I would add "One" to that list.
Can’t do three dog night without doing joy to the world for goodness sake‘s!!!
Big fat yes on never been to Spain!
Joy to the World... any song that begins with “ Jeremiah was a bullfogf
This!!
@Laura Higginbottom "Joy to the World" & "Old Fashioned LOove sone" are my 2 least favorites. I think I OD'd on AM radio saturation.
Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog is the actual name of the song, as Hoyt Axton wrote it, before the record label changed it for TDN.
We even sang it in my 7th grade music class...
you do know Jeremiah was a bullfrog?!?!?!
Out In The Country will have you in tears it’s so beautiful.
I wore out the 45!
Yes! My favorite of theirs. It's worth listening to Paul Williams' original version too.
For Three Dog Night, the success with all the covers owes to two factors: First, the versatility of three very talented lead singers and, Second, a very solid group of musicians in the backing band. The three singers let them adopt a very wide range of vocal styles which meant they could cover almost any song.
Well said
Spot on, but I'd add a third ingredient: The band, which chose the songs to cover themselves (the songs weren't foisted upon them by a manager or producer), had excellent taste in material and a real knack for finding songs that had been more or less overlooked in their earlier incarnations. As Danny Hutton, the band's founder and co-vocalist, used to say, "We don't cover songs ... we resurrect them."
perfectly explained
Somehow has to say it: It’s the arrangements. You do need the musicians and the singers. Not happening though without the arrangement.
1. Joy to the World
2. Black and White
3. Eli’s Coming
Their music never gets old
Gotta do "Old Fashioned Love Song" soon. It's such a slow build that turns into a straight-up jam session.
Every time I see some Three Dog Night, I end up binging them for days straight. Can't go wrong with any of their hits, but please do this one!
So many of their songs do that - start quiet and build to a raucous climax. They are the past masters of this technique and it never gets old. So feel-good. They are definitely in my regular rotation.
Old Fashioned Love Song , great song , written by Paul Williams, he does a good version too.
Same for me.
extended version
Love the drums in that song during the fade out.
Meta comment: I watch reaction vids a lot cuz it's like hanging with my friends and turning them on to stuff. You guys are my faves cuz you don't pause the songs and break the momentum, you don't get all caught up in the video or lyrics or any of that, you guys just wanna listen to the song. Keep on shinin' y'all!
I second that. I'm not a fan of those who interrupt the songs and second-guess what they are about. Alex and Andy do justice to the music, listening and then commenting afterwards. Thank you Alex and Andy!
"Eli's Coming" "Out in the Country" "One"
Out In The Country is my favorite. Eli's Coming would be my second fav.
My top three also.
Hearing Eli’s Coming live is goosebump inducing!
Ooh ooh. Out in the Country. I forgot about that one.
"Out in the Country" reminds me of my folks place a few miles outside of Oakdale in Central California where I'm from (which is also where Michael Allsup - Three Dog Night guitarist - was born). Nostalgia overload.
"Never Been to Spain" is one of my all-time favorite songs.
ditto!
Same here, tons of memories in this one.
So 3DN. Definitely. And classy to boot
TDN has a ton of great songs so picking one could be difficult. Having said that I would go with "Never Been To Spain".
Good choice! That's another one written by Hoyt Axton, who penned their biggest smash hit 'Joy to the World'.
My favorite.
@Scott Allen You are most welcome. He penned the Steppenwolf hits 'The Pusher' and 'Snowblind Friend' as well.
Hoyt Axton wrote fantastic tunes. I love all the aforementioned songs and I’ll also throw in Della And The Dealer.
…..And a dog named Jake
And a cat named Kalamazoo…
Makes me smile every time I hear it!
Some people might remember Hoyt Axton from his guest role on WKRP in Cincinnati where he played a country singer who took over the radio station so he could get his music played.
I think their sweetest is "Out in the Country" by the legendary Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. Also gives you a time travel to those times when the "ecology" was a big concern.
Ah yes, the forgotten song by them ...it's probably my favorite. Sounding their very best .
@@Newfie-zc7ug My first "favorite song" as a kid. And, again, a totally different vibe from everything else A&A have done by them so far.
I'm 68 and l enjoyed Three Dog Night a lot as a teen. Vocals were the backbone of this stellar band.
Ditto!
@@maeric9 Ditto!! Ditto!!🤗🤗
Just as good live. Surprised me.
First concert I everseen was in grade 8
Yep. No moronic videos. It was all about the music which was the most important because without the music, there would have been no videos.
Eli's Comin - is a two birds with one stone kind of thing - great cover by TDN, written by a 20 year-old Laura Nyro.
Laura Nyro ( wow what a legend)RIP ❤️🙏😢
All their songs have a very different feel.."One" sounds completely different than this 🤘🤘😎
One needs some reaction love. It's so lonely out there . Poor song, A and A need to address this.
@@bobbybobbatunday9959 ...and props to the writer, Nilsson. (He said the opening chords were inspired by a busy signal. ☺) Cheers all! 🍻
It always amazes me how a band could see a diamond in the rough such as Harry Nilsson's "One" and make it shine. His original is pretty unremarkable to me. Then Three Dog Night got a hold of it and the magic happened. Then Nilsson covered an unremarkable tune "Without You" and made THAT his signature performance.
@@vincentschmitt7597 Aimee Mann did a nice cover of it as well, but the Three Dog Night version is the standard!
It is their best song IMHO.
Three of the best vocalist ever on the same stage. If you really want to hear their range listen to the 7 minute live version of Eli’s coming.
Most Definitely 😊
See? They DO sound like 1972 _felt_ ! By all means you should see them live; "Eli's Coming" or "Black and White" are great grooves!
Ues!! The live versions!
You have reach peak 70s with this song
Yes indeed!
Its black, its white, its forgettable. Pick better.
Next up has to be "One." You guys will absolutely LOVE it!!!! Again, a totally different sauce from the 3 you have already experienced. Typing that out, I realize now that I have not given these guys enough respect or attention in my life either!!
Joy to the World is their most popular hit, and some might say it's over played, but if you haven't heard it, it's time. Let me tell you what kind of song it is: On a long road trip with my wife and two (adult) daughters, Joy to the World came up on the playlist and without any kind of precommunication amongst us, all four of us spontaneously burst into full-voiced song right along with the band ... all the way to the end. It was damn fun.
And for another completely different vibe, listen to my grandpa's favorite song: Old Fashioned Love Song. "Now that there's a tune, Scotty."
joy to the world is such a fun song, still!!!! I agree with you completely and with your grandpa's
favorite song, too!
Hoyt Axton (who played the Dad who's a failed inventor in Gremlins) is an underappreciated songwriter. Pretty sure he wrote both Joy To The World and Never Been To Spain.
My favorite song he recorded himself was Della and the Dealer. It's a country tune, but it's damn fine fun.
“Out In The Country” was released on the first Earth Day in 1970, and its even more appropriate now than it was then.
They were a soft rock, audience-pleasing band for many years.
Lol, I was in like 4th '6th grade at the time. We percieved them as a hard Rockin band at the time.
You're a kind person.
They knew how to pick hits
They had that one live album they rocked it pretty hard.
If you listen to the live album Around The World with Three Dog Night you’ll see they were definitely a rock band. Great live album.
Never Been to Spain is a great and oft overlooked track - one of the best. Liar is a fantastic in-your-face banger that should be heard by this generation as it's so clean and perfect that nothing quite like it has been around on the music scene for decades. Please, pick one of these.
Like picking a face child, can't be done. They need to do both!
Yeah, it's a great one among great ones!
The Family Of Man, Never Been To Spain, Easy To Be Hard, Old Fashioned Love Song, and of course...Joy To The World. All bangers, IMHO. You can't go wrong with TDN. They were an amazing late 60s-early 70s band.
"Joy to the world" Banger???? A favorite at a wedding reception along with the chicken dance!!!!
CoreyWells was such an awesome singer!i am so glad my dad introduced me to such great music. Three Dog Night, Janis Joplin, etc. i was one lucky kid!!
Among many others, their greatest hit was "Joy to the World." Greatest opening line in history! "Jerimiah was a bullfrog!"
Often with bands, their greatest hit is my least favorite from them. Such is the case with Joy to the World. Same goes for the Guess Who's American Woman. They had several better tunes.
As young kids in the seventies my brother and I loved this song. Back before hippies turned in yuppies.
They were the 1st band I ever saw live ('69)
I don't consider them a 'covers band' at all, they were just great at picking songs by up and coming songwriters
I don't even know if the term 'cover band' even existed then. This was still in the days of the studio system where the record companies matched "the talent" (being a band or solo artist) with a stable of songwriters and session musicians to come up with a recording. Many songs were given to multiple artists to record around the same time period. The Kingsmen and Paul Revere and the Raiders both recorded "Louie Louie" in the same studio in April of 1963. I wouldn't consider either a cover at all. The next year though, after the Kingsmen version became a hit, you had Otis Redding, The Beach Boys, and the Kinks all do versions and those I would consider covers.
This song is such a happy carefree soft-rock 70s vibe -- basically everything I love about the 70s
@rob land Absolutely, yes!
Well said!
Ahhh.1970 I'm 30 years old, 2021 I'm 81 years young and still rocking mainly in my rocking chair. Love and peace from Australia 😎🖐🎵🎶🎵
"One" and "Never Been to Spain" are both really cool songs from Three Dog Night too, check 'em out.
(Shameless Plug)
It's my wedding anniversary today 💕
We now resume your favorite reaction channel back to it's regularly scheduled program.
🤠🥂👍✌
Happy Anniversary ❤️
Congratulations on meeting someone who can put up with you!🎉🥳
Happy Anniversary!!! Congratulations!!! ❤️❤️🥂🍾
"In The Country" is unforgettable. "It's For You" shows their harmony skills.
Best Friday surprise ever! I'd suggest either 'Eli's coming' or 'Never Been to Spain' next.
I'm with you!
I agree!
Just a great example of pure professionals laying it down.
I love this group!! It's a shame that they have not been inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame! I would love to hear Easy to be Hard or Try a little Tenderness which was a Otis Redding cover.(Live 1975)
Those two songs are my favorites
Try A Little Tenderness has my vote. Corey Wells as lead vocalist is outstanding! They need to watch some live performances.
These guys were in heavy, heavy rotation on radio in the 70's. A lot of great, fun hits.
I really wish you would check out Never been to Spain, I believe it is a more iconic song and had a bigger impact on my musical preferences!
@Maya Nightwolf Cory Wells was the lead singer on "Never Been to Spain", not Chuck Negron.
“I’m lovin this band”… “I LOVE IT”!!! I am so jealous of you guys that you get to go through the history of 60’s and 70’s rock music, hearing it for the first time. It was a great time to be young and to get “lost in the sauce”. I am forever grateful and fortunate to experience all of it in real time. “Eli’s coming” should be your next Three Dog Night “ hit”.
Joy to the world, hell, any of their songs!
Joy To The World was a huge hit. Never Been To Spain is their best interpretation. Both written by Hoyt Axton.
Hoyt was born in Duncan, Oklahoma before moving in his early teens!
When the Beatles and Elvis were done topping the charts Three Dog Night ruled for years!! Another great cover that’s a must by them is Leo Sayer’s Show Must Go On.Especially the video is fun!
Three dog night never ruled anything. Average band at best.
@@KWayne6756 21 Top 40 hits (11 of them Top 10) in just over 5-years says they certainly did rule... of course to each his own, but you'd be in the minority with your opinion of TDN.
@@KWayne6756 Opinions aren't facts.
Loved this reaction so much! Your next Three Dog Night song should be “One”. Though the Harry Nilsson original is slower, Three Dog Night’s take on it is an absolute banger with searing guitar riffs and vocals. Then - please, please, please check out Harry Nilsson! Have a great weekend!!!
Great job boys! "Eli's Coming" is definitely next. TDN's cover of the Laura Nyro hit.
live
Yes!
Has everyone forgotten about "The Show Must Go On"?
This song got way too much airplay when I was a teen but it would still make a fun reaction video.
Shambala is another way of saying Shangri-la, which is supposed to be a place of peace and joy.
Loved it! just throw a dart at a spinning board- Three Dog Night is a non-stop hit parade! I still return to them often.
Three Dog Night was a bad ass band back in the day. Check out Eli's Coming. A favorite that won't disappoint.
The live video version is amazing
Fellas, "One," "An Old Fashioned Love Song" or "Never Been to Spain" are much better selection from these guys
You're going to enjoy Never Been To Spain
They were one of my favorites. Absolutely love their song called One. The lead vocalist, different guy from the one you've heard so far, has a voice that is pure ear candy, probably fudge.
Three Dog Night didn't get much respect from rockers back in the day, probably because they didn't write their own songs. But as cover bands go, they were the best.
Their covers are usually the only versions I know and I was around when all the songs came out.
Three Dog Night have so many Great songs to hear....you should really check out these last couple of songs live, these three guys are so fun on stage!! Such personalities you need to check out a few of them live, because all 3 guys sing lead at some point in different songs!
a great driving song - this was on a memorable scene from "Lost" - it is a cruiser. Makes you put the pedal down, I SWEAR OFFICER...IT WAS THE SONG!!
Is "Joy to the World" they're best song? Maybe not. They're signature song? Absolutely. Gotta hit it. Cheers from the Past.
Never Been to Spain!
Might I add that Joy to the World was released 50 years ago (Feb 1971) and the song not only hit number 1 on the U.S. charts, but was also the #1 song for the entire YEAR. Easily their biggest hit as the single sold 5 million copies!!!
Good choice! Such a nice song and such a great vibe.
Next!:
REO Speedwagon's Roll with the Changes. Banger from the underrated 1978 album "You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish."
Also, late 70's punk/rock from Ireland's The Undertones and the song Teenage Kicks. You haven't hit this group yet, but they were pretty popular back in the day.
This song--short and sweet--is a blast.
I dare say you will thoroughly enjoy both!
Let's get some likes for these two songs folks!
That is a great f-ing song! Gets the blood moving!
"Teenage Kicks" deserves a listen. It seems like The Ramones is the only band from that time period doing shorter songs that they've listened to.
Yes 'Roll With The Changes' is excellent! Have yet to see REO Speedwagon on this channel!?!?
Golden Country is also a great tune
Was just thinking of this song the other day. Golden Country live is a banger. Gary Richrath tears it up on the guitar solo.
So smooth in every way - vocally and instrumentally. I thought for sure you guys were going with an S tier rating on this one, but definitely respect the A+!
Love Three Dog Night. This is one of their weaker hit songs, IMO. Try "Never Been To Spain"
Was in the front row of the Tulsa Civic Center to see them in 1971. Check out Eli's Coming, a song written by Laura Nyro, one of the 1960s best female song writers
Shambala was released almost simultaneously by B.W. Stevenson, so it wasn't a cover. "One" is their greatest song IMHO. For a "wow" effect "It's For You" is an almost all acapella number written by Paul McCartney that they do with stunning effect.
Don’t fall for the ‘soft rock’ description. They can rock, also. Hard. Play “Eli’s Coming” next.
I love the live version
Love Three Dog Night, 3 lead vocalist with killer harmony's & a great band backing them up. So many great songs you could check out.
Liar (the album version), Out in the Country, Eli's Coming, Try a little Tenderness ( should check out Otis Redding's version to), Nobody, Celebrate, One Man Band, Old Fashion Love Song, One, Never Been To Spain & it actually goes on & on. Hard to believe they've never inducted in the hall of Fame, I don't think they were even ever nominated, when they had hit after hit, it's a shame. But we still have their great music.
R.I.P. Charlie Watts
So much more impressive when you see a live video. They are good here but they are fabulous in concert. I would vote for Eli's Coming. I lived through the 60's and 70's but have gained new respect for these guys through RUclips videos.
YAY! You did 3 dog night!!! 😀 Their songs are amazing! You would love “Out in the country, Liar, Old fashioned love song, Black and white, Easy to be hard, One, Eli’s coming, Joy to the world, The family of man, Celebrate, Try a little tenderness.” Great singers, great band!!! 😀 Thank you Andy and Alex!
Elis' Coming had a rebirth when Eli Manning became a great football player.!!!
For Three Dog Night next time listen to "One", "Eli's Comin'", "Easy to Be Hard", and the live version of "Chest Fever".
Still waiting for Never been to Spain!!!
Not hard rock or even screaming guitar work, but Three Dog Night Puts lots of smiles of many faces with their catchy tunes. “Joy To The World” “Never been To Spain” “Eli’s Coming”, “Black & White” nice tunes
Never been to spain is the next obvious choice! And my personal fave: brickyard blues
Love Brickyard Blues!
Yes! Play Something Sweet!
Always had mad respect for these guys and this is probably my favorite song of theirs. The change to "How does your light shine..." always gets me!
Never Been to Spain and Joy To The World should be next
Both written by the same guy...
As well as The Pusher, and Snowblind Friend by Steppenwolf. Also my all time favorite novelty song, Boney Fingers.
@@tomseidel2992 Yes, and it will blow Andy's mind when he hears "Never Been to Spain" and "Joy to the World" and learns that Hoyt Axton not only wrote those two songs but "The Pusher" as well. If you watch the A&A video for "Magic Carpet Ride", you'll find in the intro that "The Pusher" (which had been the only Steppenwolf song he'd heard up to that moment) made quite an impression on Andy.
I'm glad to hear this. I voted "Eli's Coming," and I had forgotten how sweetly this rolled along. Thanks, guys.
The show must go on...great tune
Their version of “ Easy to be Hard” from the rock musical “ Hair” is also great.
3DN did so many of these great smooth songs. Out In the Country is another favorite of mine but there are many!
In the 70's this band was always in Beast mode.
Can't wait for this reaction!!
"Family of Man" is another great banger by TDN...
Yes! That's my favorite TDN song. ☺
60's ,upbeat, positive vibes and again you guys are all smiles. The 60's are really making you guys happy
Shambala is the Wi-Fi password in the movie Dr. Strange. I chuckled knowing how many people wouldn't catch it.
Crown of Creation by Jefferson Airplane!
Carry On
Black and White is one Three Dog Night song you should do. This was a cover and preceded Limelight by Rush by about a decade or so.
I knew you'd dig it! Joy to the World and Liar are nice too!
Good catch on that Limelight riff!❤
Like Liar showing a different side of them
This song was written by Daniel Moore about a mythical place called " Shambhala". I love TDG so I think they delivered. Andy's description of curling up on a cold night with three dogs mixed with the songs name kinda gave me a Viking groove. Loved your reaction.
Im sure BW Stevenson partially had input on it since "My Maria" practically sounds the same and they both are credited with writing that one together at the same time and for the same album in 1973
@@eddyandthebadcheese2247 Stevenson co-wrote "My Maria" with Moore but "Shambhala" songwriter credits go solely to Moore. Either way. Cudos.
Daniel Moore is a wonderful singer, songwriter and musician. It’s a shame he hasn’t had hits singing his own songs. Check out his version of “Shambhala.” It’s all right there.
@@paulread8978 I took your advice and just did. I also listened to"Hollow" "Anyway" and "World War I" . He's pretty somber but I enjoyed it.
There will NEVER be another band like Three Dog Night, glad you guys are hitting more of them! ❤️ 🔥
So underrated. Try One Man Band, Family Of Man, My Impersonal Life, Sure As I’m Sittin’ Here, An Old Fashion Love Song.
A cover band that chose great material.
“Never Been to Spain" was written by Hoyt Axton. “Eli’s Coming”, written by Laura Nyro. “One”, written by Harry Nilsson. “Easy to be Hard” was from the musical “Hair”
Oh, my faves, "One", "Joy to the World" , "Just An Old Fashioned Love Song"
One would be an interesting listen especially if you listen to Harry Nillson's original and then the Three Dog Night cover version.
It was great to have been a kid during this era of music. A lot of the songs had a positive, almost tribal spiritual message. The songs also had great-but-simple musical hooks that you never forgot. It's almost impossible to imagine that kind of ethos in today's music. It was a very different world back then; a different social as well as spiritual reality.
I know I'm lazy compared to the others but would love to see a RUclips reaction from you for Never Been to Spain
Never Been to Spain AND Joy to the World. First concert I ever went to was Three Dog Night. It was a great show.
Their cover of Try a Little Tenderness is epic.
Yes, but The Comitments did the best cover of that song as well as a number of other R&B and soul classics.
I saw these guys in person in 1968 - they were incredible and their vocal harmonies were so tight and right on pitch. They had tons of hits from the late '60s all the way through the '70s and beyond.
My favorite of theirs is Never Been to Spain. It's a cover of a Hoyt Axton song, which in and of it's self, is a great choice to react to. The Black Crowes did a solid cover of it too.
As soon as the song starts it takes me right back to my childhood. 💕💕💕
Next:
Never Been to Spain
Easy To Be Hard
And while I'm here I might mention "Clap For The Wolfman" by the Guess Who. It's not deep or profound, but it's fun and you get to hear The Wolfman and his patter
Tremendous band, vocally match the Beatles and Eagles with harmonies. Musically awesome musicians and their arrangements are killer. What a band!
It has been a while but, how about some early Robert Palmer "Sailin' Shoes-Hey Julia-Sneaking Sally through the Alley".
‘One’ written by Harry Nilsson was a big hit for them.
They were my sister’s favorite band post Beatles. I liked them too. Three good vocalist and a good band.
That is the song they should do next. Great call.
“Never Been to Spain”
“Joy to the World” (NOT the Christmas carol!)
“Eli’s Coming”
“One”
You guys are an accidental time machine. We hear songs we haven't thought about for a million years. Suddenly, we're smiling and remembering all the bad things we shouldn't have done.
you need to learn about Jeremiah, hear the song "Joy to the World"
When you talk about the stereo mix, remember that most of heard these songs initially on crappy little AM transistor radios.
AM Radio magic. I watched the first season of Ted Lasso yesterday and this song is perfect for today. 😁❤️. So many great songs you guys are missing though, Question by the Moody Blues is a MUST. Remember, 60’s mixes were in mono, it was before stereo recording.
