This song, "Aquarius" (covered by the Fifth Dimension), "Hair" (covered by the Cowsills), and "Good Morning, Starshine" (covered by Oliver), were all from the musical "Hair".

Three lead singers. Great harmony always plus they had their own band. Three Dog Night would rearrange songs and turn them into hits when the originals weren't.

Hey JM, in your continuing education into Classic Rock by now you have come to realize how huge the Hammond B3 Organ was. In a typical song with keyboards they will most likely be one of these iconic instruments... Grand Piano, Up-Right (Honky Tonk style) Piano, Fender Rhodes Electric Piano, VOX Electric Piano, The Moog Synthesizer. Those can be heard on a very large number of songs in that era. The REAL thing, No artificial junk included in what we call Classic Rock.

Without a doubt, Easy to Be Hard is my favorite 3DN song, follows by "Out in the Country". Both mellow tunes, with a great message and the subliminal Hammond organ ❤

I love Three Dog but this song must be heard sung by Cheryl Barnes from the 1979 movie Hair. You can find the clips on RUclips. Her version will blow you away. Sung so strong by a little tiny black woman. Ms. Barnes was a serious powerhouse and should be remembered. Just beautiful man.

Very thoughtful reaction. As others have probably said, the song is from the groundbreaking late 1960’s Broadway musical “Hair” - revived and updated on Broadway in 2009. Many powerful (and funny sometimes) songs.

The junkyard stage set used to present the band in the video is interesting. I don't recall seeing this on television when I was a kid, but I might have depending on what year it was taped. I knew Three Dog Night from "Joy To The World", which is 1971, so if after that for me. I probably would have thought of it as adjunct to Sanford & Son. The demolition derby scenes that introduce the clip seem like something the show might have added to spice up the inserts between songs during what the "#4" text suggests might be a countdown to the top song of the week or some such. But it also figures into the junkyard stage set. That's quite elaborate presentation for one song. Maybe the show was an end of the year special circa 1970-1971. Demolition derbies in the seventies were quite the spectacle to behold. The cars were mostly tanks built in the fifties and they could take a beating. At any rate, when I got some years older and began to grow curious about music and records and record collections, I could tell if my friends parents were "hippies" by whether they had a copy of the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Hair in their collection or not. "The album charted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the last Broadway cast album to do so. Hair's cast album stayed at No. 1 for 13 weeks in 1969." (Wikipedia) Silly kids metric. But I did get a copy of that album for myself a decade later. Lynn Kellogg sang "Easy To Be Hard" on the record. She passed in the first year of the pandemic. RIP. For a trippy taste of the Hair soundtrack check out "Walking In Space" or "Be-In" and for a taste of funk, check out "The Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In)". Beyond the other hits that came out of the musical, the songs are socially provocative to say the least. YMMV.

You should take most of your videos from the 1975 TV special. They were at their peak. They were unusual because they had 3 Lead singers. You just heard Chuck Negron who is spectacular. But my favorite is Cory Wells. He just kills "Try A Little Tenderness " in the 1975 TV special. Please consider doing it.

My all-time favorite rock band....Three Dog Night performing their classic hit, "Eli's Coming," in 2002.(ruclips.net/video/znaYWPIM72A/видео.htmlsi=1RpMKTrwJUmErfvz) with Tennessee Symphony Orchestra....such a great concert and I thought you might want to see them perform this song in 2004. Some changes have happen. Lead singer Chuck Negron is not the third lead singer in the band anymore. He has gone solo. Floyd Snead the drummer is not in the band....new bass player/lead singer in the band showcases his vocal with this song.....however, Corey Wells and Danny Hutton, lead singers are still in the band.....they all performed the song so soulfully good. It is FIRE!!! FIRE!!! The Old boys never miss a beat......and their vocals were stronger than EVER!!! Check it out!!!! It is a Live performance!!!

    "Easy To Be Hard"
How can people be so heartless?
How can people be so cruel?
    Easy to be hard
    Easy to be cold
How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
    Easy to be proud
    Easy to say no
Especially people who care about strangers
Who say care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about the bleeding crowd
    How about a needy friend
    I need a friend
How can people be so heartless?
You know I'm hung up on you
    Easy to give in
    Easy to held back
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about the bleeding crowd
    How about a needy friend?
    We all need a friend
How can people be so heartless?
How can people be so cruel?
    Easy to be proud
    Easy to say no
    You know it's e-
    Easy to say no
    Easy to say no
    Easy to be proud
    I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know
    I know it is
    Easy to say no
    Easy to say no
    It's easy
    It's easy
Easy to say no, no, no
    It's easy, it's easy, it's easy, it's easy
