- Boasting a record-breaking 10 Triton Poker titles, Jason Koon is feared throughout the tournament world. However, in this hand Koon decided to play in a high stakes cash game at Triton Cyprus against another high-stakes crusher & PokerCoaching coach, Chris Brewer. We followed this hand from Koon's perspective, as he flops a set in a pot that grew to over $100,000!
When playing small to medium pocket pairs, it is important to remember that you are not always just set mining. On uncoordinated boards like Q-4-3, a hand like pocket sixes can still be good. Your opponent may take a passive route and opt to check it down and you could still win with your small to medium pocket pair.
Chris Brewer is an American professional poker player. He has over $21,500,000 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 45 on the all-time money list. He has 2 WSOP bracelets, one of which came from the 2023 $250,000 buy-in event for $5,293,556. He is also a PokerCoaching.com coach with a fantastic advanced course on cash games.
Jason Koon is a 38 year old professional poker player from America. He has over $55,000,000 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 3 on the all-time money list. He has 1 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet from the 2021 $25,000 Heads-Up Championship event. He was also a GGPoker Ambassador for almost 3 years up until 2024.
This Triton Poker Series 2023 Special Cash Game featured: Jason Koon, Linus Loeliger, Chris Brewer, Aaron Zang, Vivian, Phil Nagy, Anson Ewe and Patrik Antonius.
This poker cash game was held during the Triton Cyprus Series at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Casino; it had 17 events ranging with buy-ins from $20,000 up to $200,000 in No Limit Hold’em (NLHE), Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) and Short-Deck (SD).
Triton Poker was founded in 2015 by Paul Phua and Richard Yong; their aim was to attract a healthy mixture of recreational poker players and seasoned poker professionals. Part of what makes the Triton Series so special is that it’s open to a wide range of poker players - not just a select few. They envisioned Triton as a series of poker events providing excellent entertainment value for audiences passionate about poker. Some of the most famous poker players to have appeared at Triton events have been Phil Ivey ‘RaiseOnce’, Tom Dwan ‘Durrr’, Patrick Antonius ‘The Finn’, Michael Addamo ‘imluckbox’, Chris Brewer, Jason Koon, Tony G, Dan Cates ‘Jungleman’, Doug Polk ‘WCGRider’, Stephen Chidwick ‘stevie444’, Linus Loeliger ‘LLinusLLove’, Isaac Haxton ‘philivey2694’, Mikita Badziakouski ‘fish2013’, Timofey Kuznetsov ‘Trueteller’ and many more.
🔍 Pre-Flop Action:
During the stand-up game, Jason Koon opens the action with a limp for $1,000 from under the gun holding pocket sixes. Aaron Zang calls with J9 of spades from under the gun +2. Chris Brewer then decides to raise to $20,000 from the hijack with a mystery hand. After the button and blinds fold, Koon calls with his pair, but Zang folds his suited one-gapper, and the two titans of poker head to the flop.
💸 Flop - Kc 6d 5s:
It’s a dream flop for Koon, who flops middle set on this king-high board. He checks to the preflop aggressor, Brewer, who fires a continuation bet of $15,000. Opting to slow play, Koon just calls to see a turn.
💣 Turn - 7c:
The 7 of clubs brings in a few potential straights and a backdoor flush draw. Koon now leads out for $17,000 with his set of sixes. Brewer chooses to make the call as they both head to the river.
🌊 River - 3d:
The backdoor flush draw bricks out as the 3 of diamonds lands on the river. It does however mean that any 4 completes a straight. With less than a pot-sized bet left, Koon announces all in for $56,000. What does Brewer have? Will he call or fold? To uncover the answers to both questions, you'll have to watch the conclusion of this thrilling poker video!

Do YOU prefer to watch cash games or tournament poker? 🤔
Tournament, because 90% of my play is in tournaments.
Cash games
Tournaments
Tournaments
Yes
I like that the other players are not talking during the hand like school kids.
I knew he had kings. He had a live tell.
He flipped over kings at the end.
Ur a genius
Due to the fact this is a poker coach ad video, I will guess Chris Brewer has the winning hand. No idea if the hand is "strong" (sets) or "weak" (4s) but I will guess he has the winner.
i definitely navigated this spot just as well as Jason Koon
I failed
just because he lost doesnt mean he played it incorrectly
In Jason's defense, the only real hands he should be concerned with are KK and Ac4c (maybe 44). No other hand makes sense to play the way that Brewer played it, and certainly no other hand is going to beat him. I think I would have done the same and can't fault him for running into the Kings lol.
set over is set is just unlucky
We know Brewer:
- made a big pre-flop raise (which the commentators seem to indicate he was doing consistently)
- c-bet small
- called a small turn lead
This gives us very little information about his hand. I think we can rule out 89s (wouldn't have raised), KK & 77 (would have raised the turn), so the key hands that have us beat are a 4, most likely A4s. But would he have raised with that? I'm assuming my 66 is well ahead, and betting large for value, hoping Brewer has a King with a good kicker, and will call me down.
In the setup, would be helpful to know who is still "standing" (or, more precisely, who still has their "stand up" button) AND how many players are still standing and what position they have.
If Jason is among the last standing, Chris' 20BB raise makes more sense, because Jason is highly incentivized to stay in the pot, so he can potentially win the hand and avoid the last-standing penalty. In the converse, if neither have their stand up buttons, Chris' big raise makes less sense (unless button holders remain to his left). With buttons not in play, Chris should play this like a regular hand -- and 20x is far too much to raise with KK.
Absolutely 💯 no idea.
I had guessed AK or KQ. Wow. can't believe the hand.
I was thinking broadway AcXc but KK makes a lot of sense too.
Set over set. Nothing one can do. It was AK/AA/KK. Jason has more combos for value. Sometimes you just get stacked. Rebuy and move on - straight forward hand. Surprised at the 20x pre flop raise though
When I saw the massive raise I thought "Aces through Queens, AK, and maybe some nonsense like A5s"
Even with the King on the flop, the odds that he has AK are almost 3x higher than that he has pocket kings (assuming Brewer would play AKo like this).
If you think he only plays AKs like this you still probably have to bet but you're a bit more worried.
Bro literally read my exact thoughts
Personally thinking AK or AQ
Can you make a video about playing 3 bet pots OOP? I think for a lot of us we are leaking there .
Brewer had obviously my favorite hand: 42dd. 😁 - KK is probably more likely, though.
What a cool way for the dealer to deal the flop.
I'm thinking a high pocket pair like jacks, queens or kings
88+,AJcc,AK,KQo,KQs, A5s, I dont think he has KK often, or 89 often.
Only hands I could come up with were AKc and pocket kings
Tournaments that end in cash prizes😮
Liked my own comment above
That makes since
Standup game, could be anything.
A4 spades
KQs? AcXc? Those seem reasonable and in range given pre-flop action. Post flop you would also want to keep putting money in the pot.
Only A4 clubs makes sense as this hand has good backdoor equity. Jason isn't worried about KQs even if Brewer has it.
@@brianpotter2812 I didn't disagree with Koon's shove there. If you can't go for value with your middle set there you are leaving money on the table quite often. Sometimes you get coolered.
Just.... wow.
I think this is well played by Koon just a cooler
Pocket 7s...damn, my first KK guess was correct lol.
I guessed QQ. Brewer looked scared the whole time. Turns out that is just his face and I am bad at reading.
JJ
TT
99
88
KQs
87s
45s
you cant just guess every single hand
I had no idea Jason Koon was bald so my live tells are clearly non existent.
Sb looks like a slippery fella
I think he has KK as he is a coach of you and you won't show a losing hand of your coach. Expect if it's a great lay down
I swear I was thinking KK😂
Jason Koon on cash game is the new Phil Hellmuth
😂😂😂 funny. But everyone's going broke w a set. The only mistake you could say was flatting 20x out of position pre lol
89 suited.
Ac4c or 44. Haven’t seen end yet and applying the title as surprise. Or KKK, my initial instinct, though it’s a massive 20x raise with KK in position preflop.
K4 suited
I’m gonna guess he has KK because I feel like you’re hiding Chris brewer’s hand to hide the fact that this is a huge cooler. But honestly I have no idea. I feel like it could also be TT or JJ maybe 88, 44, A8s, or A4s.
Jack's?
I guessed AA or something similar
I think they both played it bad pre-flop. 20 times the BB usually chases all your action away. But calling with 66 is even worse. The 66 calling makes the 20X raise look good. The ending wasn't that shocking. You're always a little shocked with set over set, because it's kinda rare.
There is a meta game developing because of a huge bounty you have to pay for the nit button that changes the strategy of the game completely and I don’t know how but i would bet my money on the 20x being good. These are world class players who sleep with a solver next to their pillow.
My thoughts were 8 9 c
A-4 clubs
QQ - let's see.
Well, I was about as close as I could be, while still being waaaaay off.
I wasn't going to say anything but I feel like this is overly clickbaity. The only semi interesting points of this hand imo are that it's a big pot from Triton, the bigger open pre, and the 66 lead on the turn, other than that it seems like a very standard cooler. Am I missing something? I get that this might be entertainment oriented, it just seems like 10mins for set over set is kind of a lot. Generally like your content fwiw, and happy it is a fun hand to watch I just wonder if there's a different format possible like maybe a 20-30min video recapping bigger pots from Triton or something instead of trying to glean strategy from a spot where there really isn't much.
Well, did you put him on KK? I did not, and I would have gotten stacked also. So, for me it was at least “interesting” if not JL’s best…
@@zeebags9885 It was less putting him on KK then thinking more about w 66 do we ever XF/ and if not then does XC or jam work better. The point I got to before cards got turned over (especially after JK jams and before Brewer calls) was that it was probably just a cooler and hoping it wasn't, or that at least brew had A4cc or something and JK wasn't setup on basically every runout from the flop.
I want to say A-5 of clubs
I have not watched video to end and I think Chris has Ace king will edit comment after to see if I was right
EDIT and spoilers!!!
Was wrong he had kings nothing can be done set over set
89s
AK
KQ suited.
Ouch. I shoved. I lost. 😢
King’s
99
AKs
He's gotta have a hand better than 66, otherwise the word SHOCKED would not be in the video title. So set or straight.
Pair less than KK (88-QQ)
That was my exact thoughts as well. Set over set sucks. Makes me a little cautious to rip it in with lower sets.
A4 clubs or KK
A8s
89ss
I knew it pocket kings lol
The first time I played the stand up game was at the lodge on stream in 5/10/25 although the 50 was almost always on. I played the round how I would normally play and the first round and was second to last to sit down and would have had to pay everyone at the table $50. I have to admit I never did any research or studying as to how to play the standup game because I didn’t know it was always done on stream. The second time around I was the second one to sit down. I am by no means an expert in the stand up game, but I was watching other peoples ranges and how they were betting and playing on the first time around. I just applied that when I played the second time around. It definitely entices action, no doubt about that.
The Devils Hand (666) Sucks! I have won more with it than lost with it but I don't like it!👿👿👿🔥🔥🔥
K4s
A4s
I felt like the only combo that made sense for him to play and continue with the way he had, was KK. Always feels good when you put them on their exact hand.
I also felt 77 and AA were outside possibilities.
Problem is, you can't fold the set of sixes anyway :D
@@chrisko6439 Agreed. Cooler.
Kq
Given that Chris 3-bet pre flop, c-bet the flop, and continued when the turn hit Jason's range, it is very safe to assume that there are no bluffs currently in Chris's range.
Therefore, I would say he has AA, AK, KK, maybe QQ.
Im sure Chris is a good enough player to find bluffs too.
I actually guessed it. I think a 20BB per flop raise is great because the standup game gives you a wider range and you’ll get more calls from wider ranges that wanna win the standup game. I can rule out AK and AA on the turn because those would probably wanna 3bet but with 2 KK as removal brewer must know that koon is likely betting a draw which will probably bluff river or a made premium which is going to get it all in by river. Nice plays.
He has KK. Nothing else makes any sense.
I didn’t answer before seeing but I called KK. Brewer knew koon had 55 or 66 and played it perfectly. For the same reason in your opening statement about 66 in a standup game. I had 3 hands in mind
78 of diamonds or spades. 33 crossed my mind but then I realized this isn’t my game these are the best in the world!! 78 suited isn’t raising in a standup for same reason 55 or 66 isn’t raising, and 33 isn’t for same reason. has to be KK! Side note 33 doesn’t beat him into the pot BTW but we knew it wasn’t 33 beforehand!
Apologies for changing the subject but I can't seem to reach you any other way. The scandal I'd like to cover is the update on the Robbie and Garrett/Hustler. If she gave the money back and everyone who plays poker knows she cheated, Why is the community accepting her back into poker? She is announcing the sunday millions. I saw. Her and played a few events against her at thunder valley this last series And she even Won an event. Why is the community even letting her play? I also hear Mike.Postle is playing some events. I was one of the players cheated by him. Why aren't players like this banned permanently? It's not right and we need to keep and get more Integrity, character, ethics and class into poker. It's a great game and I love it.And i've had some great recent success. I'd like to see stricter punishments for players who cheat. Why so quick to forgive and forget? Again, just doesn't seem right. Thanks for your consideration
No idea what matey has, but i reckon jason koon has probably a pair, maybe... i dont know...6's? a pair of 6's maybe.
Edit - having considered it, I reckon matey might have a big pocket pair. Probably kings. So, to clarify, I think j Koon has pocket 6's, and matey has kings.
Edit - oh look! I was right!
K4 suited
AKs
