Exactly!! I honestly hoped Cleo would at least get a redemption arc. She was very smart and like manipulative (but iconic like I love her). And in season 1 there was small hints of like why she was that way, first off her mom is an alcoholic and if I remember correctly in one episode she mentioned how her mom would throw things at her. She also mentions a lot of times how other men have like touched her and it’s kind of gray area bc she never mentions if she wanted to or not. ANYWAYS not trying to make this show deep. But I really hoped we would at least get redemption, she does have empathy for Joan but she also sees her as a rival for both Abe and JFK. I wished that in this season the friendship between Joan and Cleo would somehow develop. IMO Cleo shouldn’t be w either JFK or Abe. Idk I just was very disappointed in how they just made her a mean girl trope.

It doesn’t help either that the real Cleopatra was considered attractive because of how intelligent and powerful she was, not because she was physically “hot”. There was potential there too, Kennedy was actually the peaceful resolution type while Lincoln had no problem playing dirty war politics to achieve a good goal. Both were more authoritarian than history books portray them as. Neither had a conversion arc and were always allies to civil rights, but were naive in the beginning and intensified support as the presidencies progressed. Thinking that he's every bit as wise as his clone parent, but also making the assumption that intelligence and wisdom are the same thing. So every attempt he makes to gain clout and fame through his "wisdom" falls completely flat on its face because his ego gets in the way of realizing that he has no idea how people actually work and thus, he gives the exact opposite message he was trying to get across.

Frida Kahlo was born with several health issues, her childhood was filled with surgeries and she lived in isolation from other kids. Among other things, she suffered from polio. Which left lifelong sequels to her body. But the most damaging incident in her life happened when she was eighteen years old. She was traveling alongside her boyfriend in the bus when it was suddenly hit by a streetcar. The accident broke Frida’s spine in three parts, two of her ribs fractured, her pelvic bone fractured as well and her legs were also severely damaged.
This accident (and the subsequent 20+ surgeries) left her immobilized for months, and that was what motivated her getting into painting. She often painted self portraits that depicted her broken state. The accident (combined with her medical issues) also meant she could never have kids, which was something she desperately wanted. Her being unable to conceive children and the various abortions she had left her with a horrible depression (and this was also something that was reflected often in her work).
She later got married to Diego Rivera (one of Mexico’s most important muralists). The marriage had several highs and lows, the lowest low being when Diego had an affair with Frida’s sister. Which led her to have several affairs with both men and women (she even had a relationship with Trotski when he was exiled in Mexico). They divorced and remarried (with an agreement of living together but without having sex)
The last tragic incident in her life happened when they had to amputate her leg due to a gangrene infection. This incident left her bound to a wheelchair and gave her a terrible depression. She tried to commit suicide multiple times.
She eventually died at age 47 from a pulmonary embolism.
This is skipping all her art career and political activism of course, but this brief recap of her life may give you an idea as to how tragic and depressing Frida’s life was.

I've definitely noticed a trend of Millennial media being a lot more cynical and satirical with at least some level of actual "irreverence" (not just a Netflix buzzword to mean that it has some sex jokes), whereas Gen Z media wants to play its lessons and morals and everything dead fucking straight and seem to make sure that nothing actually controversial happens. Both extremes can get exhausting in opposite ways. It's tiring to be cynical all the time and you start to crave sincerity, but the whole "everybody gets a journey, everyone needs a character arc, we need to make a moral statement and send a message that's relevant to today's youth!" thing is seriously emotionally exhausting and obnoxious. I just want some simple jokes without PSA morals from my middle school days, damn it! I don't care if I'm an old woman yelling at cloud!

Both pairs started off by making fun of common Hollywood tropes and generic moral messages, but over time were given so much praise (and lived/worked in Los Angeles for too long, probably) that they started to believe their own hype and began acting sincere in their parody show. But the entire reason they became popular in the first place was BECAUSE they were satirizing Hollywood.

I could see her being an activist character like her historical figure. She could be the rational voice of reason against cancel culture and a good opposition to Cleo and a narcissistic Frida. She could be the straight man against social trends and "Popular kids". She could uplift and help the unpopular, "weird" kids, and those ostracized. She can also be used as a way to poke fun at the performative activists (your idea of Kahlo & Cleo) and represent the real ones who actually care about social issues. Gosh, I really hated all the diss on Abe. I'm gonna gatekeep for a minute and just say that came from everyone that did not grow up with all the melodramas back in the 90's and early 2000's. Abe was never neglectful towards Joan. In fact, he was one of her very best friends that supported her genuinely. The joke with him is that he was oblivious to not only her feelings for him but to everything around him. You were suppose to laugh at how her obvious flirting flew over his head, not take it seriously. None of the characters were suppose to be taken seriously. That was the entire purpose of the show to make fun of teen dramas during that time. I guess because so many people confuse meta humor with satire these days thinking it's both the same and it's not. Satire makes fun of topics or shows while meta humor just have the characters be aware of the show or tropes they're in. And I hate to say it but I just think that the creators just grown out of this type of humor with how much they've learn and grown from other projects that they can't recreate the reason why Clone High had its edge.

One thing I really did not like was the change in reason why Joan and Cleo did not like each other. In season 1 it was their love over Abe and how Cleo had him but was not really into him (until the final episode of the first season) while Joan wanted him for the hole season (until the season finale of the first season) and because of this Joan found Cleo ungrateful for Abe's love. Other than that they had no reason to interact with each other and they would not have a problem. You could say that Joan was jealous of Cleo but that jealousy was mainly because Cleo had Abe. But in the "second season" (reboot) the reason is that they just did not like each other and blamed it on the writing of the first season, which basically takes away the funny part of their relationship and turns it into something that is just stupid. This basically means that Joan is just jealous of Cleo for no actual reason. Which takes away from the character depth they are trying to achieve.

I never heard of Clone High before 2020. Even with all the YTPMV use of Gandhi's "Say What" line back in 2010, which I saw a lot of, it never hit me that clone high existed. That being said, every time someone mentions that they unironically hate Abe for being a simp, I roll my eyes.
    1. How can someone take this show so emotionally seriously? It's a parody, not a drama. I understand loving a show, but it's treated like it's all serious.
    2. Let's just actually treat Clone High seriously for a second and forget it's actually a parody. What is keeping me from seeing Joan as a simp? At least Abe had a relationship with Cleo. Joan got fucking nothing and yet she was still chasing after him. Is it cause she's sincere? Isn't Abe sincere to Cleo? It really feels if you take it seriously for a moment, Joan and Abe would both be simps, yet only Abe gets that label cause.... why?
    3. So... we're taking this shit seriously so Abe can't possibly be this ignorant... OK... Abe is just ignoring Joan's love advances... OK, that's his choice. Why does Abe HAVE to be with Joan? What if he wasn't into her that way? Doesn't that matter? It feels really hypocritical that Abe has to love Joan just because... What if someone made that same argument with Abe and Cleo? Nobody would take that argument seriously.
I'm honestly not shocked Clone High's second season failed as it came from a misunderstanding from the writers in the first place. It only takes a scroll from the RUclips comments of one of those compilation videos to know that the people watching have no idea this was always meant to be a parody. Like I said, I hate telling people they can't like something, but I'm not just going to let people say things I believe to be untrue leave them untested, like Season 2 being good, or even just OK.
"Gatekeeping would not have prevented that."
Again, don't care. It's the ethics involved in preserving something, not about it's effectiveness. Once again, I'd rather die on a hill defending what I love, then just surrendering my thoughts to whatever the majority says. People can have their thoughts on something, but I can still say they're wrong and explain why. Holding the majority opinion doesn't make one right.

It's sad how season 2 just doesn't live up to the old clone high. I also really don't like the whole forced inclusion and trying to seem self aware about forcing said inclusion. Also having abe start off saying stuff he has never said before in the first season just to show that "times have changed and certain things aren't acceptable" was so awful and out of character. If anything jfk should of been the one to fit that role due to how he treats women (besides how he treated joan to an extent since he did seem to genuinely connect with her but in season 2 it felt so forced and not like they had actually bonded.)
Edit: in regards to Ghandi they could of had an episode where he was revealed there was a mistake and he was actually a clone of someone else who just looked like Ghandi. It feels like such an obvious thing to do with this situation.

To call the 2nd season of Clone High a train wreck is an understatement, I think it's so bad that it shouldn't have even existed in the first place because of how disrespectful, painfully unfunny at times, and pandering it is compared to the 1st season and even if it's others opinions, I'm still flabbergasted beyond belief that some other RUclipsrs like Nicktendo think it's up to par or better than the 1st season. Also they shouldn't have EVER hired any writers that hated any of the characters like Abe, it's a catastrophe waiting to happen and no one else should hire writers like that as well.

They could’ve had Confucius be a “nice guy” who thinks he’s the smartest guy ever and tries explaining things to others. Could’ve been nice.
Have Frida be the stoner artist who is really permissive and carefree.
Keep Topher the exact same. Please. He is amazing.
Undo the character assassinations done on Cleo, Joan, and JFK, and you have yourself a great series. Maybe have Joan be confused about what she wants after Season 1 and have both Abe and JFK chase her and fight over her. And have Cleo be resentful of the new clones and trying to outmaneuver and outwit them to get back to her throne.

I think a main quality they forgot was that in the og season EVERYONE SUCKED. An that's what made them likeable. Joan was "not like the other girls." Abe was the annoyingly clueless everyman, Ghandi was often just a bad friend, Jfk was a bully and cheater, and Chloe was a mean girl. Topher was the only character in the 2nd season who still retained this formula. Like at most points I felt like he was written by a different team. Because I'd zone out for like most of the episode then Toper would randomly say some wild ass shit. I personally think they kept him this way because he was already a cancelled white guy so they didn't have to like him.

Great work, as enjoyable as it was correct!
I would have loved to see Harriet be a comedically forceful 'I know what's best for you' character without regard to whether people really needed her help. The real woman was said to pull a gun on anyone who got cold feet in the middle of escaping (practical at the time, considering the consequences), and just that one bit would have been enough to tie her to her clone mother, even if they might have had to show her threatening/committing violence in a way that didn't involve firearms.
There was definitely more to work with with the new gen clones--Confucius struggling to make complex ideas into pithy soundbites for clout, Frieda milking any horrible situation for art that people nevertheless had to admit was cool, Sacajawea being hypersensitive to the idea of group projects, etc they just needed to dig for it more, and it didn't happen.

Like it felt like they brought in "New Genz" because they would go with the Vibez.
Like each of the old and new characters could have been these.
Abe: He starts to have feelings for Joan but is oblivious to the fact that she's dating JFK. So, he would try to get with Joan, with the characters trying to tell him to move on, but similar to how he was in szn 1, he would ignore their wishes, but in episode 4, would let his feelings of Joan go. Only for Joan to realize that she still has feelings for him and breaks up with him to get with Abe. Only for him to be oblivious to the fact that Joan wants him again. With the final episode them getting together, only for everyone to get their minds erased for the new school year.
Joan: She would hate being popular, and would always stay in the shadows/background, but due to her friends and JFK, she is forced to continue being popular and taking the place of Cleo, until purposely she gets herself canceled, with Cleo taking her place in the friend group. But JFK still dates her in secret. She then breaks up with him, since he clearly wants an open relationship, and despite loving him, also loves Abe still. She would then get with Abe, before her mind is erased.
JFK: He is still a dick, tho still charming. He at first struggles to move with the times, but he is able to adapt, while showing his true self out of private, still making mild remarks, just not saying it in public, in fear of getting canceled and losing his popular statis. After breaking up with Joan, he then starts to hook up with random girls, even Harriet and Frida. Causing him to start fall into his old habits, but Cleo and him get back together, do to their toxicism not being able to match with any other person.
Cleo: Since she is not popular at the beginning, she tries to use her looks on JFK, which doesn't work, but ends up using her looks against Frida, who ends up falling for her. Tho after Cleo joins the popular kids, by using her looks, she's able to become the top dog again, with her trying to make how things were in 2003. But after Joan tries to rally everyone... it doesn't work ad Cleo is still the most popular, and gets back with JFK, before losing her memories.
Frida: Although she seems cool, she is pretty dumb, and even though she's a pretty bad singer and ass at song writing, she pays people to fix her voice, which has allowed her to stay popular. She ends up falling in love with Cleo, but it's obviously one sided, though due to her ignorance she thinks Cleo really wants her, and writes her a terrible song from the heart, which Cleo uses to kick her out the popular kids, with her still thinking that she's a part of the cool kids. She also tries to hide her sexuality and is the main drug dealer threw out the school.
Harriet: Harriet is the wannabe school president, wanting to lead women to power, but due to her rage, and loud personality, she is very hard to approach. She is very adament, and is really paranoid of her popularity, so bad that she ends up being Cleo's rival, as their both smart, pretty, popular girls, with her also fiending for JFK, but doesn't realize her childhood friend, Confucious has a crush on her.
Confuscious: The guy who tries to be chill, ad mysterious like Jughead from Riverdale, but is actually very sensitive and somewhat. loud. He always tries to make up a deep backstory, he just ends up being boring, do to this he has become self-conscious and Werry, thinking that he might not be the guy he wats him to be.
I don't know what tf I just wrote, maybe im high right now, idk.

UGH THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS! And may I add that Joan and JFK STILL could've worked out (at least for a little longer) if the writers had stuck with their original personality traits? Like, Joan is kinda violent in season 1, and so is JFK, they could gang up on goobers and JFK would teach Joan the fine art of teasing/bullying while being able to keep a cool kid status, or beat the crap out of people who deserve to be bullied! But NOoOoOo! We gotta sanitize them because they're the main characters! JFK could still be a bit of a flirt, maybe that would cause some issues between him and Joan, but it's just not like him to not flirt with at least 3 different women, if not do more than that!
