I've never actually heard of a person dying, or being anywhere near dying, from a platypus sting. The way I have it figured is that the venom works much like stingray venom. Not deadly, but super painful.
He didnt say that people die.
That’s basically it, the venom is absurdly painful but non-lethal to humans.
They've killed a few dogs and cats but no humans have died

I love how this creature becomes a symbol of Disney, also it's a legend
well, i've not suffered from the spur (unlikely, as i've never been down under!) but from what i've heard gopherdude is right, the pain really is excruciating. What extraordinary and wonderful animals they are. They even inspired me to write a poem aged 10!

This is a great video, platypuses are fascinating. Other videos i like include David Attenborough with the Superb Lyre bird, first footage of wild snow leopard, Dugong with trevally, and Texas armadillo coming out of its burrow

The platypus does have fur, and it is very fine and densely packed; they're most similar to the fur of an otter. Not to mention the fact that the platypus has one of the primary distinguishing features of the mammalian clade: mammary glands, which is where the word "mammal" derives from.
It's mammary glands are much more primitive then placental mammals, they lack nipples that placental mammals have,

This is one of the few examples of prehistoric animals in existence that have survived the ravages of time because of their incredible versatility in adapting to the environment. Dinosaurs were like evolving platypus for the survival of the species, with DNA always looking for a way to preservation of the species and consequently the life of the animal.

Im sorry but this is hilarious! I love the footage of the 'deadly' platypus and the 'sprinter' platypus. Its just so fat and fluffy.
Such a unique Aussie animal we have many cool animals. Australia also has the highest mammal excition rate in the world. Apparently the Platypus is vulnerable. I really want to see one in the wild, we need to save our unique animal species. Also Tasmania is a state in eastern Australia so they could have just said they are only found in eastern Australia
The platypus is proof that life is good and meant to be enjoyed.

Platypus are NOT the size of beavers, beavers can be like 3ft long not including their tail, platypus are under 2 feet tail included. I was shocked when I went to Australia and say how small they are.

They weren't shrimp in the video, that was a yabby. "The common yabby is an Australian freshwater crustacean in the Parastacidae family. It is listed as a vulnerable species of crayfish by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, though the wild yabby populations remain strong, and have expanded into new habitats created by reservoirs and farm dams." Simply a fantastic animal. Wildlife and God's creation are marvelous but the Platypus has always had a special place in my heart. Love them! And like someone says, screw anyone calling them weird!

I remembered the show in discovery, where the guy had his arm look like it’s rotting because of the platypus’ sting. And morphine didn’t much help.
'It goes from cute to killer in an instant'. Really, you don't think that is an overstatement? Give us a list of how many people were killed by Platypus compared to death by humans, dogs, cats, lightlning, bears, ants, bees, toilets, tv's, etc.
They are lovely little things, seing them in the wild should be a happy moment, not a cause for alarm or a reason to get a gun out.
