  • Trace a year in the life of a platypus, and explore how the animal’s unique adaptations ensure its survival.
    --
Waddling along the parched Australian earth, a female platypus is searching for fresh water. Over the past year, a severe drought turned rivers and streams to mere trickles. She barely survived and was unable to reproduce. Could the next year bring a change in luck? Gilad Bino traces a year in the life of a platypus, and explores the unique adaptations that ensure this ancient species' survival.
Lesson by Gilad Bino, directed by Petya Zlateva, Compote Collective.

    You missed the best part.
Platypus stings are so incredibly painful that people have been known to attempt to cut off the stung limb.
There is also nothing that can be done about it. People literally just tie you up or sit on you until you stop screaming 👍

Platypuses are the nearest Australian equivalent of beavers - despite vast differences in biology, many bodily traits, etc. - in terms of being semi-aquatic, having padded tails, and the like.

Fascinating video, when it comes to platypodes, but what's with that map at the start? The Caribbean islands as part of South America? New Guinea as part of Asia? What's that gargantuan landmass northeast of New Guinea? Why are the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand drawn so accurately while Asia is a series of blobs?
