- Explore the challenges facing amphibious fish when they leave water and the ingenious ways they survive on land.
--
We think of fish as completely aquatic animals. But there are actually hundreds of fish species that are amphibious, meaning that they possess adaptations that enable them to survive on land. Once on land, however, they face suffocation, drying up, and being hunted by land predators. So why do fish make the exodus from water to land? Noah R. Bressman explores the ingenious ways these fish survive.

Such a cool dude.
The background noises the fish make are so derpy lmao. Made me smile throughout the whole video. Also Anderson is the best narrator ever
I love this animator's style, it's adorable.
Random thought-
Every land vertebrate comes from the same fish. Of course we also come from the same microscopic organism, but let’s focus on the fish. If one of these guys said “aight, walkin time” and evolved legs, what kind of creatures would it make? Would they be similar, or extremely different from us? It’s an interesting thought.
I’m wondering what would’ve happened if instead of Lobe finned fish, it was boney/cartilaginous ray-finned fish or placoderm fish that made it onto land first.
The noises of fish in this animation is so cute, specially @ 4:04
Those cute fish noises in this video were EVERYTHING!

CHORUS, as LAND: The sun is a deadly lazer!
SEA LIFE: Oh, okay.
CHORUS: Not anymore, there's a blanket.
NARRATOR: Now the animals can go on land. Come on animals, let's go on land.
FISH: Nope, can't walk yet. And there's no food yet, so I don't care.
100 million years pass.
LAND: Okay, will you learn to walk if there's plants up here?

NARRATOR: ...said some bugs... and fish.
The year is now -380,000,000. FISH grunts because it is struggling to get on land, for it has no legs. 5 million years pass. The year is now -375,000,000. FISH now has legs, for it has evolved into an AMPHIBIAN.

LOVE the animation for this!!!
Another way fish can "migrate" is via areal delivery. Some fish eggs are so hardy that they can pass through a birds digestive tract intact and make it out the other end. That means that a pregnant female eaten in one pond and might have her eggs "deposited" for here in another.
The sound design on the video is my favourite, 3:22, 4:02, 4:25. Quality!
So amazing 😉 never realized they could walk. No wonder fish stay fresh in d market before killed.
