My problem is that 30-70 range I either over shoot or duff it for some reason anything in 25ish is a pin seeker. 13 chip ins this season ( Canada March-Nov ) probably played around 100 rounds!
There's nothing more vital than course management over ego when you're trying to break almost any mark from 110 to sub 80, it's all about managing expectations and the realities of what you're bringing to the golf course! Another great vid! Team Clubhouse
LMFAO!!!! I used to think that too!!! Now...I layup to 80 yards out for a 55° into the green on just about every hole. Maybe one day I'll start attacking greens, but I don't have the spin to get anything to stop on a green from anything beyond 150 or so.
Rick, i have been watching you for a couple years now and i appreciate your easy teaching manner. Lots of others tend to ramble and repeat themselves but not you. Many thanks good sir.
Really agree with making sure the clubs have a purpose. Helps so much with decision making and go-to. Found that gap between woods and irons so difficult until I put a 7 wood in.
@@Olorin884 unfortunately I had to cancel because my puppy got sick 🤒 (he’s 100% now though!) BUT I rescheduled my tee time for tomorrow morning! I’ve been watching more content to try to keep the basics fresh and I’ve got the range a few times so I’m as ready as I will ever be
To break 90 u first need a consistent swing w good consistency in grip , setup, body rotation , and you MUST manage the course. I play for bogey on many of the difficult holes and layup to 120 out or leas w an iron instead of going w a wood for the green. Works well
Shot 84 yesterday, been watching you videos all summer and getting better thanks a ton👍👍 btw the course was more advanced and the first time I played 18 I got 112😂😅 so loads of help and a much lower score
Right. I play low to mid 90's and sometimes very rarely, break 90. I watched this video last night and today I shot 82, my best round ever by 6 shots! I practiced nearly all the tips explained here and made massive difference.
I recently broke 85 for the first time. Key for me was hitting less than driver on the tee box. This allowed me to take my 2nd shot from a better position near or on the fairway instead punching out from the trees or at worse taking a penalty for a lost ball, hazard, unplayable, etc. For anyone looking to break 90 or higher, the biggest key is course management. You can always expect to hit poor shots in a round, but you shouldn’t compound them with poor decisions during your round. Set your ego aside- hit high percentage shots with clubs you’re most comfortable with that keep you in play and put you in a great position for your next shot. Get good at lag putting and putts inside 4 feet. Stay positive and present in the moment and will get you see improvements to your score pretty quickly.
If someone has an inconsistent swing and can’t shallow the downswing breaking 90 is not likely w out lots of luck. Regardless of course management but course management is important to ad to your round as well.
Be sure to have practiced this choked down shot and be comfortable with it. You may find it either draws less or fades more because your lie angle is more flat/pointed down. Plus you'll get a feel for the distance difference
The “silly pins” tip is true at any level. When I’m playing poorly, I play to the safe part of the green. When I’m playing well, I start the ball at the safe part and work it toward the pin. Great tips Rick!
Shot an 84 Friday. Hit 7 pars in a row, going for the center of the green unless the pin was on the front of the green. Heading to the course here shortly.
Really good and practical advice. It’s really all about knowing your bag and distances, the wedge thoughts are great. The putting tip is also good but I always tell people to make sure they commit to a follow through. Stops those horrible jabs that always go right. Swing past the ball and it’ll stay on line.
This video displays why you are so brilliant! I don't know the percentage but my guess, 80% of the world's amateur golfers are trying to accomplish this feat consistently. Then you give sound, easy to understand advice that we can use immediately that can help. Your first point here is very similar to advice from another video when you said take into account your possible misses. That is very practical and has helped me continue to shoot in the mid 80's
Great tip about the wedges and three swings, my favourite was the tip of gripping down when you are in-between irons, I can see that make a big noticeable difference to my game
I'm not going to break 85 anytime soon (still chasing 90 in my third year playing - and our season is done until April), but enjoy the tips. My game isn't ready for all of them, but every now and then I end up in a situation where I can dial one up and use it!
Right, like most of us you're still probably stuck on the one he didn't mention - consistent ball striking. Without that all the others become almost irrelevant.
@@garyco766 Exactly. I have people telling me I should upgrade from my $25 ebay driver, but until I get a bit better with ball striking, I don't see there will be a huge benefit. Some good ideas. Im 88 to 92 on most rounds and at this point w a consistent swing . i need small considerations like these to shave a few strokes here and there.
Three putting is to be avoided at all costs. It's the biggest stroke saver you can find. Also watch how old timers play. They lack distance so they keep their drives in the middle and if they can't reach a par 4 in two, they lay up leaving themselves with a nice wedge distance where they knock it close and tap in. They'll also wear you down in a match!
5:06 lol I never play with woods anymore me personally I can’t hit them good they been out my bag for 2 months now and I’ve improved and I’m also taking each shot about 150 to 170 yard all the way to the green instead of bombing them

Great vid Rick. Course and game strategy is the biggest one for me. Like keep the driver in the bag and just find the fairway? For hardest holes on course play a par 4 as a 5 or a 5 as a 6. Set a target gross based on HC instead of the par of the course
