DJI genius. Hold it vertically and shoots horizontally. If apple, Samsung, google would apply that to their cell phone cameras, probably vertical videos would disappear. That would be such a relief. Vertical videos took hold just by the laziness of not turning the phone.
You can use a 3rd party UV filter on the Action 2 to help protect the lens. Your audio test had the surround sound mics of the Action 2 switched to mono, so that rather wiped out their advantage over the GoPro. The Action 2 audio features are probably class leading - not least the configurable surround mics but also its abiliity to accept standard USB-C audio devices without any adapter, or 3.5mm connected mics via a non-proprietary adapter, or the audio from the USB output from devices such as the Zoom H1N.
i have an action 2 and i love it. i have 2 main use cases for it: for once i use it for vlogging in situations where i need to be able to whip it out quickly, capture some footage, and then stash it away until the next situation comes up. also the magnetic mounting options have totally enriched my footage by adding extra angles i wouldn't normally get. my second use case is documenting adventures with my son, being able to just snap the camera to my shirt to capture my pov (or his pov!), or just to have my hands free is worth so much
Haven't seen anyone mention it ... but the GoPro 10 can have 360 degree horizon lock without the Max Lens (with the 1.19.44 beta fw)... just activate Max lens Mod in the menu & you probably have the same crop as the Action 2, & you can chose between wide & Superview lens (stretched from 4:3) if you want. Actually totally usable.
@@brettyg76 So far only the 1.19.44 beta firmware have the Max mod up & running, if you want it you need to manually load that firmware. The Beta works really good without any problems so far, what I have noticed at least ... if you update, don't forget to do a factory reset after worth, that will save you from smaller oddities.
It's amazing how much of a step back the Action 2 seems to be. One of the biggest selling points of action cameras recently has been water proof right out of the box. That, and then getting rid of presets definitely makes the Action 2 seem like they pulled an Apple (getting rid of ports on the Macbook Pros until bringing them back).
Correct. Like the first 360cams. Moust had protektions lence there cud be replaced in a snap. Now all are fixed protection-lens. ? Why. lol and on 360, sun and lences is hell. So lets force users to put more lence on. So retarded. Gopro-insta fixed protx-lence. Why. Now insta, maded an protections lence, there's coveres mic lol why. 🙊🙉🙈 nb. (why) is metaphoric ment. Not for you to explain. just frustrated. Well, gopro did make many mistakes. But now it sems to take back action marked. Lego Nannycams, let hope gopro never do that shit.
DJI definitely took a major step back with this one and is not befitting of an action camera. I have both the Osmo Action and GoPro Hero 8 Black and the Osmo Action has been solid in terms of being reliable and image quality had been improved with each new firmware. The GoPro kept shutting off or freezing at random moments and cannot be trusted for critical shots or activities with limited time spent in said activity. I was hoping DJI would release a true successor to the Osmo Action with a larger sensor and wider aperture since GoPro didn't do any of that with the Hero 10 only to instead put in an improved processor, though while that makes the camera UI smoother it still didn't completely get rid of the random freezing and errors but at least it's far less frequent.
@@rasmokey4 it only has ports with the add-ons and is not helpful when you only want to carry the camera and leave the battery or display mod behind. It is waterproof up to 33 feet BUT when you attach the mods to it then it is no longer waterproof as the ports are exposed as are the contacts and said contacts are electrically active at that point.
I think the dji is interesting for bikers like me. Light weight and compact for your helment mounts and long time riding without your neck hurting. Plus: widescreen/view out of the box
The DJI Action 2 is currently at a big disadvantage due to power, but at some point, DJI will be selling their battery modules and you will only need two or three, plus a power bank to keep filming all day... as long as you don't need a front-facing screen and as long as your "action" venue isn't too wet or too rough or too hot. I really think DJI's engineers went after the "active vlogger" market and forgot to tell their marketing department.
Agree. It seems like Action 2 is more targeting the use case of daily vlogging, bits and pieces of life moments, convenience of mounting to capture something un-conventional than traditional sports action cam users. At this point, GoPro 10 is a better all around action camera and fits most people's needs better. But it seems harder and harder for GoPro to improve in the next year with GP11. On the other hand, in the long run, DJI Action line has more potentials. I think it is still possible for Action 3 to have gasket around those contacts to be 5-10M waterproof and swappable battery in the battery/screen modules, or stackable (main + screen + battery modules) .
Yeah, I think if DJI wouldn't have gone with the modular design, they could have created a second version that would have beaten the Hero 10. The modular design really tripped them up in the use case scenarios😬
I have watch a ton of videos to be able to decide. Finally I have. My GoPro 10 it´s on it´s way. The last Gopro I had was the 3, so you can imagine how excited I am hehe. Good video as always. Thanks
@12:45 You compare the horizon levelling of both cams. I notice that the the GoPro has some lag and doesn’t keep the horizon perfectly level while the DJI does a better job at this point.
Oh man, I thought the exact opposite. The horizon looked locked in on the Hero while it seemed to wobble a bit on the Action 2. I can see what you mean though about it looking like it was delayed a touch on the Hero👍
Thank you David for such a good, independent review. I was going for the Action 2. However, you highlighted some important differences that would be critical for me. The screen/power module would be essential for some of the mountain biking I do. Unfortunately the open ports could be vulnerable to dust and rain. Shame, as the light-weight and magnetic pendant would be far better than the bulky GoPro chest mount. So Hero 10 it will be.
I'm with you Peter, the non waterproof or dust proof mods are one of the main killers for me picking the Action 2. They're also real pricey if you're going to be filming for a longer day or riding!
I would like him to compare the GoPro 10 to the Original DJI Osmo Action. The 10 is nearly identical to the GP Hero 8 except the front facing screen. Which the DJI Osmo Action implemented first. The GoPro 9 was first GoPro to have front screen
Thanks so much for this review! I watched 2 reviews prior to this one comparing quality. Each video gave me different directions to go in. But based on this video, hands down the GoPro10 is the way to go. The batteries is the dealbreaker for the Action 2.
Absolutely. I thought when DJI released the Action 2, the Hero 10 would be in real trouble. But in real world use cases, the Hero 10 is just a lot more useful. For me Action 2 is for POV and Hero 10 is for everything else!
i miss when action cameras were made to be durable and take beating. if they made a durable gopro or action 3. that would be my go-to. i could do with a tiny back screen or remove it all together only having the screen module when i needed a screen. now that would be amazing. the screens are always the first to go.
I'm rocking the Hero 10 with screen protectors and extra lens covers in my backpack and it's taken a beating. I think it's still the toughest action cam out there right now👍
There’s a little break up on the edges of the palm fronds…that kind of area is a great way to tell compression issues and resolution issues. It’s minor, but it’s there.
@David Manning I agree with pretty much everything you say here. I've got my own review coming for the Action 2, but what I can say is that if you want to do adventure sports, all day filming on a helmet cam, or anything to do with water, it's the GoPro. The modular system on the Action 2 needed more thought before it was made a reality, and I can't believe that waterproofing for the modules without needing a case wasn't a priority. What I do like about the A2 though is the lens. That wide angle with the stabilisation on is excellent. One thing regarding your own footage, the extra detail and texture in the GoPro image on your face and T-shirt was quite noticeable.
Waterproofing of the modules would be hard, as when separated the gaskets, o rings would be exposed to dust, debris, wear and tear and eventually fail. People complain about the insta360 modular design leaking with the cage. I think it is a compromise. The sealed main unit has no ports, doors that can leak. I am not a fan of non removable batteries, but in this case it allows the camera unit without a dive case to be more water resistant than any other action camera
@@stefpix The thing with the Action 2 though is that I don't think its those contacts that are the problem, because the camera is so flat against the module I doubt water could get in there. A small compressible gasket would totally seal it in a better way than the ONE R. The real thing that stops the Action 2's modules from being waterproof is the exposed SD card slot and USB-C port. But having said that, if making this system waterproof was such a problem, it shouldn't have been put into production. It is, after all, an action camera. Sure, you can use the camera on its own, but then you only have 22GB of usable storage and the built in battery. That's no good for an extended trip where the camera will be constantly exposed to water. Pretty much everything David says here is spot on, particularly near the end where he holds the same suspicion as me in that it was likely designed by people who don't know how action cameras are often used.
@@simonwyndham If you really need a waterproof system you can get the dive case. DJI could have provided at least 64 and 128GB of internal storage. Maybe shooting at 2.7K extends battery life. It would be great if the whole system was waterproof, but anyway those battery doors leak sometimes. GoPro seems better than Insta360. The contacts between the power and battery module are an issue, as if they would get wet it would short them. I have a sealed SeaLife Micro 3.0 that has internal memory and battery. You need to rinse in fresh water and completely dry it before you can connect it to the charging cable. I imagine the same is for the Action 2. The charging contacts have to be rinsed and dried before charging. So a gasket between the 2 models would be really a weak, vulnerable point. Minor damage or debris on it would make the seal fail and short the camera and/or the power module, even if the SD card and USB-C slots would have sealed doors. If DJI made an Action 2 twice the size, with 3 times the battery life, waterproof to 30 meters, and 128GB of internal memory for water use, that would be amazing. The SeaLife Micro does not cut it as 4K is only at 30fps, the write speed for the still photos burst more is not great, the lens is a bit narrow for underwater use. But I like the concept.
@@stefpix I've been using the Action 2 for a while now (part of my job is reviewing cameras). I've got the dive case, and it's simply no substitute for an action camera that doesn't require it. In fact one of my criteria now is that I stay away from cameras that need them. Not only does the dive case make the camera bulky, and risking getting steamed up, it also forces it into a vertical configuration and is unusable for mounting on a helmet for sports like white water kayaking, or even a bite cam for surfing. It also ruins the sound. DJI could have provided 64 or 128GB of storage, but it didn't, and it was a mistake, so we have to judge the camera as it stands, and how it compares. My own video review won't be published until Sunday, and obviously I won't link to it here on someone else's channel unless they were happy for me to do so. But if you wanted to hear my full thoughts and reasoning you can click on my profile then. One thing I do accept though, is that different use cases mean different things to different people. I don't think that the Action 2 is a bad camera. But I feel it's more suited to general lifestyle stuff than anything truly action related.
@@simonwyndham I did cancel my preorder for the A2 as I do have reservations. I agree that dive cases are cumbersome and a drag. But if I take a GoPro or else in saltwater I always use a dive case, as battery door seals can always fail at a minimal user error, or just wear and tear. A saltwater leak kills a camera. So I see the Action 2 as the first camera that is completely sealed and I would use without a dive housing. I go spearfishing and snorkeling, most of the time within 10 meters of depth. So it would work as a camera mounted on the speargun or just on a handle. I currently put a Hero 7 or Hero 8 on the tip of the speargun, and even if I don't find any fish I can legally catch, it is still a good POV setum to film other fish I enjoy seeing. If someone wants to film a lot underwater, it would be great if DJI would sell the A2 camera module only, and a charging cable without an external battery module. Anyway, I will wait to see if the prices come down, or if there is an updated version with 64GB. The vertical configuration is unfortunate, but maybe makes it easy to hold it without a handle. BUt probably there could be a cage/bracket to mount it horizontally, and a firmware update to allow rotate the video of 90 degrees. I need to look into the lack of presets and if there is a way to change from video to time lapse and photo modes when the A2 is in a dive case. The Insta 360 Go 2 is appealing, but the battery life is less than half the A2. According to the Hybrid Shooter review, the battery life of the A2 camera only is about 50 minutes. I supposed he tested it at 24fps, I would like to know the battery life at 2.7K 60fps. the A2 seems to be the first iteration of a new concept that needs to be perfectioned
David, you truly are talented and the videos you produce are very entertaining and informative. We were mulling over an Action 2 but have been reconsidering against the Go 2 or even the GoPro which we have never purchased before (always DJI or Akaso). You certainly give us much to think about. Keep it up bro. You are really good at this!
I was interested in the og Osmo Action just waiting for the upgrade but the Action 2 is such a no on several of the accounts you mentioned. The use case for me is yes, recreational outdoors but also I am looking to take it on building and landscaping worksites and homestead development. I want it robust and all-weather and if that front lens gets dinged up I just want to replace the front lens cover not have to ship the camera back to the company. I want to be able to take a bunch of batteries out and go too.
It is one of the most honest, user-end, and knowledgeable comparisons. I agree that DJI is a nice-looking and innovative camera, but it is not really like an action camera. I will go with GoPro 10, too. Thank you very much for the video. Gave it a Thumb.
For me, an action cam needs to be waterproof without a dive case by today’s standard. DJI turned this into a vlogger cam. I was looking forward to switching over to the new OA but the Hero 10 just makes more sense for what I expect from my action cam. Also the idea of having to send in the OA for repair if I damage the lens is ridiculous.
I feel like the action 2 is designed as an FPV drone cam first, an action cam second. All the major innovation in the design seems to only benefit projects that have a need to prioritize weight and size over everything else.
Go Pro wins hands down. But one comment on image quality. Not sure how your're seeing the sample footage but to my eyes the level of detail in the GoPro is A LOT better. Look at the 10:00 mark, on the gopro you can read the sign on your hat, we can see the texture detail on your face, looking at the cliffs, on the gopro you see the strata lines ... anyway, not even close.
Great comparison! BUT😁 next time you ask the audience if they can tell the difference between the camera's (it was avious because of the wider view on the left ist dji), hide the shade of your setup on your self 0:09😉. Like @itz Sky said great comparison. Thanks
I hate to say I pre-ordered GoPro for $700 due to regional pricing. Still can't wait to test it out during my next trip and use the footage for my cinematics. Action 2 costs around $700 here as well. But it just doesn't fit my needs. Conceptually DJI is really cool though.
I'm totally with you, the DJI is conceptually super clever! But for real world use cases, I think some of that cleverness falls apart. The Hero 10 still checks all the boxes for me!
Great comparison! The dJI Osmo action 2 is a good camera. However, it is not there yet. An available internal memory capacity of 22GB (10 gb for software) is not enough; have to use the attachable module to extend it. In the smaller form factor, heat will not dissipate as well as the GoPro, thus you are forced to use a lower res (1080p) just to prevent overheating. Compared to the competition, the only thing the dJI osmos action 2 has is, that its smaller. The GoPro is less expensive and the difference can be used to buy tons of accessories and batteries. We will have to see if the next dJI action 3, if they will ever release one, will address its lack of competitiveness.
the action 2 regular combo is about 399. which is cheaper than a gopro. even if we use the power combo at 519 vs the gopro at 499, the difference of 20 bucks isnt a huge difference that can buy tons of accessories. people complained that gopro always overheats, but action cameras should be used in action, then theyre unlikely to overheat. gopro is a good action camera that does it job, those who want more versatility with the small form factor of dji and its magnetic abilities, should get it.
@@3ull its 349 if you accept to buy their cloud service at an extra cost. so youre paying more than 349. i just checked amazon and other online websites and its 449.
Great review! The differences are really interest. My two big concerns would be low light performance and over heating. I've heard the GP 10 over heats of you look at it the wrong way. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
Need a barrel cam. So small is best. I used to have a hero 5 session but the lens broke and you can’t get them replaced Andy they don’t make them anymore. Would like to try something jot GoPro for the barrel cam unless GoPro comes out with another version of the session.
For everyone confused about the GP10 price: he's using the price today Nov 26, which is $350 with subscription (in USA) because go pro has an ongoing black friday sale. Normally tho, it's priced at $450 with subscription.
GoPro has a sale approximately every 2-3 months where the Hero 10 is $350 with the subscription. So I would consider him quoting the $350 price as accurate.
Comparassion between dji will be cool. I think Im not such a power user, most because after I shoot, not sure on how to edit upload process those lol. But I am team gopro, got the 7 might shift to 360
I got the action 2 with power mode for just 179 pounds brand new here in UK which was shocking as few months ago they were selling for over 400 gbp. I love this camera so far and dont use my go pro anymore as its so easy to use and has a better app
Have GoPro hero 10. I know action camera’s don’t take good videos at night, but what setting would you recommend for the best videos it can get in low light.
Sounds like they fixed the laggy interface on the GoPro? It was so bad on the 9 I returned it after 2 days. When I'm out shooting in the cold or heat, I need a snappy interface. Great comparison ⚡
David, When you shoot at 5.3k and then resize to 4k or lower. you'll get a better video quality. the only problem is processing 5.3k in a pc. not all softwares can support that.
One reason to consider a gimbal, low light, now I'm not saying you should use either of these in low light situations, however, if you turn off EIS and put them on a gimbal, it will look a lot better in low light. Soooo I wouldn't necessarily say you don't need a gimbal. BUT instead of buying a gimbal, just buy a pocket 2, its great a night and is overall smaller than a GoPro on a gimbal.
Actually right now the Gopro is more expensive at least in Europe. I would really love to see another review made by you on the action 2 it's a truly unique camera and now its even better with the new firmware update. Thank you for the great comparison. And don't forget make another video on the action 2 maybe compared to the action 1.
I use my gopro on a daily basis on a motorcycle helmet, so I ride on the rain a lot, as I ride all year round. Perfect camera for what I use, being waterproof.
Actuality I have a dual screen mode and a power mode when I go out for a longer shoot during a day and the battery is actually great like that, as in total I get with ease over 4h, obviously changing the dual screen mode with the power mode and you can do that when filming. I have 2 sd cards, one in each mode. All great and has a new software update now, so all amazing
So, I noticed with the DJI Action 2 the transfer speeds when moving files from camera to PC that it was slow and when transferring from internal memory to SD card it was slow as well. Contacted DJI support and they stated that the USB-C port is only rated for USB 2.0 speeds.
I'll be using the Action 2 for live streaming and while there was a bug until yesterday (stream wasn't flipping the footage, when the camera was upside down), that has been fixed now. For POV and live streaming, the GoPro hands down looses. Secondly, attaching an external microphone: the GoPro will require the USB soundcard from the Hero 7 or the MediaMod ... those are costly. The Action 2 just needs a standard USB sound adapter or you can plug the USB interface of a Røde Wireless Go II straight into the Action 2 USB port. Job done. Thirdly, water resistance: you did forget to mention, that you actually can get a proper dive housing for the DJI Action 2, that will cover both the camera and the front screen (or battery) module. Bottom line: your price calculation is rubbish. If you say, the GoPro Hero 10 costs 349$ under the subscription scheme, then you need to add the cost of the subscription scheme on top of that price. You also need to add the cost of the max lens. I mean, the GoPro very very quickly gets a LOT more expensive than the DJI Action 2. And for all other action sports requirements, I'd take the Insta360 One R over even the GoPro Hero 10 .. ANY DAY.
i agree mostly with what youre saying except the one r part. the one r is trash. gopro way better than that camera. i recommended the one r to a dude, and i regret that, hes had several problems with that camera, it sometimes condensate in the camera lens and blurs the video. its total garbage.
I own both and here is my take for what it is worth. If you are a power user who needs a rugged, bullet proof action cam for all day of action shooting, then GO WITH THE GOPRO. If you are more of a vlogger who needs a light and convenient action cam for shorter clips dispersed throughout the day then BUY THE ACTION 2. Those are 2 very good cameras but with different use case. Cheers everyone.
I mean i dont call my self a power user. Im still interested in the action 2 as i will use it mostly for my pov and bts of my photo and videoshoot, or maybe if i do some sort of a action to get a cool shot. I think for my use case dji have nailed it. But i do see why people preffer gopro over dji. 🤗🤗 i just hate how bulky is gopro chest mount or head mount, the dji solution is slik and less intimidating for my models. 🤔
This is a biased towards GoPro. I use a GoPro and without the subscription is very expensive. Also you very stealthily did not mention that GoPro Max Mod costs $100 which is insane comparing the fact that 115 degree on the Dji comes as standard. I use the go pro for motor vlogging since i can use a mic and charge it at the same time where is the action 2 cannot.
I need a Gimbal for footages in low light, nightshoots. Hypersmooth destroyd nights clips. How do you filming in lowlights? Thanks for your comparison, Greetings from Berlin, Germany.
Thanks for this comparison. thorough and dummy proof. But how does the GoPro subscription work? Do you have to pay monthly/annual fees on top of the purchase price?
So the GoPro sub price is built into the $350 price tag. You'll see on their site that when you go to buy one, it marks the camera down to $299 and then has the subscription for $49. After one year, you can just cancel the subscription👍
sounds like you are a bit frustrated with the action 2. i also damaged two osmo action 1. im reconsidering getting that GP10. does the action 2 have some sort of d-log raw file similar to higher mavic models?
If I am traveling I need multiple $75 or multiple $169 batteries to charge it. BUT I could get a 8.2 lbs Ainker 521 to bring along.or keep in the van to help make sure my action camera stays charged.all day VS a hand full of $20 USD GoPro batteries and 2 256gb cards I can film in 4K all week. And I don't have to remember where the other half of the camera is at
I'm still considering an OG osmo action for the colors alone, would love to see that test. On a side note, I seemed like the GP10 only had the better picture in 5.3k, when you first switched down to 2.7 before the max lens mod, the highlight details disappeared... Is that because of changing sun light or do you really need to be shooting the GP in max setting and not just 4k to get the benefits of the chip?
The only thing I don't like about Gopro 10 is the low performance at low light. That is one of the main things I like from the osmo 2. I think if they work more in order to improve it at low light, Gopro would win at any particular aspect.
Hey, I am a Travel Vlogger & I love to hike/trek/swim. I am looking to get a perfect 360 cam for me which also needs to be waterproof. Which one would you suggest for my needs? Please help me out.
It makes a lot of sense that bec of the difference in form of both cameras, one will stand out for a particular situation while the other will be the best cam for another scenario. For myself, I might go with the Action 2 mainly for the convenience and versatility of it!
Look at the 10:07 mark of the video. The DJI Action 2 has way, way less dynamic range. Unless he brought his shaver, you can clearly see stubble in the GoPro image, but none in the Action 2's image. You can see less dynamic range in the Action 2 backgrounds too. This is really disappointing because faces should be clearer and not poor quality on action cams. The GoPro is certainly better, even on a smartphone. DJI Action 2 fails for price and using old technology. The image needs to better for a new gen cam.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual gopro has more resolution in that section hes comparing 4k vs 5k. sure if anyone cares extremely about more k, then the gopro has that.

I'm seeing the dji action 2 with the dual screen for 279 at best buy now BUT I like being able to change my battery and sdcard so gopro for me just for that reason alone. Love the action 2 form factor like the session tho.
It's for sure a cool concept, but in practice, unless you're only going to shoot for a short period of time, the modularity and lack of quick interchangeable batteries is a big hinderance. I usually reach for the GoPro for that reason👍
@@DavidManningvlog I get that the DJI Action 2 battery doesn't last. Hey David The video was very insightful! I’ve got the Hero 10 & I was looking for my second Action cam! I mostly use the GoPro as a helmet cam while riding, do you think Insta360 One R Twin edition is a good option as it comes with 4k & 360 module?

I gotta give in to the form factor of the Action 2. Never seen something like it. Unique!!! Love the wider FOV too.

DJI genius. Hold it vertically and shoots horizontally. If apple, Samsung, google would apply that to their cell phone cameras, probably vertical videos would disappear. That would be such a relief. Vertical videos took hold just by the laziness of not turning the phone.
Ya but I'm too lazy to turn the phone sideways to watch the video.

The Beta works really good without any problems so far, what I have noticed at least ... if you update, don't forget to do a factory reset after worth, that will save you from smaller oddities.
I love that you’re talking about the cameras in grams !! Thank you
PS: Awesome Beastie Boys rock leap ! 👏🏼
nb.
It is waterproof! And it does have ports!
@@rasmokey4 once you add one of the attachments to the Action 2, it no longer is waterproof without an added housing.
This is such a well done comparison! Both cameras have their strengths, but I really can’t say enough good things about the Hero 10. It’s awesome!
Yeah, I think if DJI wouldn't have gone with the modular design, they could have created a second version that would have beaten the Hero 10. The modular design really tripped them up in the use case scenarios😬
@@DavidManningvlog Totally this!
Nice comparison video and yes I would like to see a comparison video with both DJI cameras.
I have watch a ton of videos to be able to decide. Finally I have. My GoPro 10 it´s on it´s way. The last Gopro I had was the 3, so you can imagine how excited I am hehe. Good video as always. Thanks
Yes I’d love to see the Action 2 and Osmo Action video plz!
Does it really matter? Who will watch the videos anyway?
@@chamade166 That is what I have been wondering.
There is a rubber case for the Action 2 that holds the 2 modules making them secured and waterproof.
Very good comparision. I love how you laid every aspect of each action camera. Yep i’d go for the GoPro too
I would like him to compare the GoPro 10 to the Original DJI Osmo Action. The 10 is nearly identical to the GP Hero 8 except the front facing screen. Which the DJI Osmo Action implemented first. The GoPro 9 was first GoPro to have front screen
Was looking at the DJI Action 2, but glad I checked out your video David. Thanks for the very hands on comparison.
For a FPS racer like me, the Action 2 is like a god send, and the magnetic attachment is so much easier to use
Hi Dave, I agree with your option. This time DJI unfortunately missed the spot. I purchased the Gopro and I'm very happy with it. Great review!
Same here, I went for the gopro with a black Friday deal.
Thanks so much for this review! I watched 2 reviews prior to this one comparing quality. Each video gave me different directions to go in. But based on this video, hands down the GoPro10 is the way to go. The batteries is the dealbreaker for the Action 2.
Great comparison! GoPro definitely has the upper hand on this market!
Absolutely. I thought when DJI released the Action 2, the Hero 10 would be in real trouble. But in real world use cases, the Hero 10 is just a lot more useful. For me Action 2 is for POV and Hero 10 is for everything else!
Hi Dave ..... great videos ...they have taugh me a ton! .... love the style of your videos!!!..again thanks a lot!
totally agree ....... besides: i have some very specific maschine filming - where the small form factor is perfect with the Action 2 !
Yeah, there's specific use cases where I see it as a benefit. Mainly for POV setups or just when you need that tiny action cam style
i miss when action cameras were made to be durable and take beating. if they made a durable gopro or action 3. that would be my go-to. i could do with a tiny back screen or remove it all together only having the screen module when i needed a screen. now that would be amazing. the screens are always the first to go.
Really great and honest comparision 🤟🏻
Thanks Ardent Adventurer! Always trying to be straight forward on these reviews👍
It is one of the most honest, user-end, and knowledgeable comparisons. I agree that DJI is a nice-looking and innovative camera, but it is not really like an action camera. I will go with GoPro 10, too.
Thank you very much for the video. Gave it a Thumb.
Your video is actually nicer than other reviews/comparison(?)😆. Anyways nicely done😁
Thanks Zach, super kind of you to say man!
Thanks for making this video!
Gopro, foevah!
The perfect set up for me. GoPro Hero 10 and the Inst 360 Go 2. Perfection. It’s seems to me the DJI has tried to be both cameras.
I just ordered protective filter lenses for this DJI Action 2!
Sadly the GoPro Hero 10 is still problematic with glitches etc. Just returned mine. 😔 Looks like I'll be sticking with the original Osmo Action.
I’ve got an Osmo action with three batteries. It would have been good if the new camera used the same battery.
I feel like the action 2 is designed as an FPV drone cam first, an action cam second. All the major innovation in the design seems to only benefit projects that have a need to prioritize weight and size over everything else.
Yes test the Osmo Action VS the Action 2....But so Far I am not regretting getting the Action 2
@@truthseeker6804 nope. GoPro hero 10 is $349. He even stated that in the vid as well if you watched it.
Thanks!
They both overheat and not great in low light. For low light consider dji pocket.
Need a barrel cam. So small is best. I used to have a hero 5 session but the lens broke and you can’t get them replaced Andy they don’t make them anymore.
Would like to try something jot GoPro for the barrel cam unless GoPro comes out with another version of the session.
I got the same thinking as you , the GoPro is easier to use for wet recording , action is for more fun on the road use
Great comparison! Thanks!
But I am team gopro, got the 7 might shift to 360
Oh man, the Insta360 ONE X2 is crazy good! BUT, you will need to learn that upload and edit process. Super easy on your phone though👍
On The action 2 dynamic range is worse. You can clearly see it on your face and shirt. The highlights are almost gone.
I got the action 2 with power mode for just 179 pounds brand new here in UK which was shocking as few months ago they were selling for over 400 gbp. I love this camera so far and dont use my go pro anymore as its so easy to use and has a better app
What resolution and frame rate do you shoot in?
Have you had any issues with overheating.
Really wanna buy one but not sure
Great comparison. 👏👏👏
Actually right now the Gopro is more expensive at least in Europe. I would really love to see another review made by you on the action 2 it's a truly unique camera and now its even better with the new firmware update. Thank you for the great comparison. And don't forget make another video on the action 2 maybe compared to the action 1.
Yeah i hate that.....
Is that Anker waterproof??... I love to know if it could be used outdoors to power a GoPro in all weather types
Thank you for this review!
Yes do that test!!
Action vs Action2 yes please!
0:02 default fov gives it away 😁
DJI action 2 on the left
Can you do an update on how your liking the Insta 360 ONEx2 (your favorite action camera) and any thoughts on a X3 coming out?
Thank you David
What about a test between GoPro 10 vs Insta 360 One R with the firmware update.. Would the GoPro 10 still be your best action camera??
Solid question Troy! Let me dig into them and see about making a video!
It’s time for GoPro to innovate
I guess you’re right I would choose the GoPro 10! Good review!
Off topic but I really like your Apple Watch strap. Where can I get that same strap? Thanks
Thanks David! That's the traditional strap from nomadgoods.com
Exactly!
Last time I was this early ...
You needed half a ton of equipment to film your Scuba diving trip .
🤣🤣🤣
How about a video comparing original osmo action vs go pro 10? Closer in form factor, replacement batteries, waterproof etc.
1 Question - GoPro 9 or 10 ? Please I need to know this tonight as I will be buying 1 of these 2 tomorrow 🙏🙏🙏
@@DavidManningvlog Thanks! This deal makes it very tempting :D
Nicely done ✅
How much storage do you go through on a full day if shooting on the GoPro? I definitely need some more batteries on my upcoming trip.
sounds like you are a bit frustrated with the action 2. i also damaged two osmo action 1. im reconsidering getting that GP10. does the action 2 have some sort of d-log raw file similar to higher mavic models?
If I am traveling I need multiple $75 or multiple $169 batteries to charge it. BUT I could get a 8.2 lbs Ainker 521 to bring along.or keep in the van to help make sure my action camera stays charged.all day VS a hand full of $20 USD GoPro batteries and 2 256gb cards I can film in 4K all week. And I don't have to remember where the other half of the camera is at
Yeah, I like where your head is at Kenneth👍
I'm still considering an OG osmo action for the colors alone, would love to see that test. On a side note, I seemed like the GP10 only had the better picture in 5.3k, when you first switched down to 2.7 before the max lens mod, the highlight details disappeared... Is that because of changing sun light or do you really need to be shooting the GP in max setting and not just 4k to get the benefits of the chip?
you forgot to mention that huge FOV on the Action 2!
The only thing I don't like about Gopro 10 is the low performance at low light. That is one of the main things I like from the osmo 2. I think if they work more in order to improve it at low light, Gopro would win at any particular aspect.
Would you recomment buying the Max Lens Mod for the Hero10? I usually do MTB rides... Thanks.. great content btw..
That's actually weird, because the DJI Action 2 has the bigger sensor, so should perform better.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual gopro has more resolution in that section hes comparing 4k vs 5k. sure if anyone cares extremely about more k, then the gopro has that.

A Well Informative Explanation , As Usual , Thank You , ( & i Will Go To Gopro HERO 10 ) .
Excellent video
Hey David
