I've owned several GoPro Hero's and a DJI Action 1 which is a good camera. Most of my filming is on the water in potentially high impact scenarios and lots of sand. I also use screw-on ND filters for bright sunlight. Two biggest issues I had with the Action 1 was field of vision and not being to easily swipe the screen on the back for camera functions when its wet. I'm getting my head around the new form factor, but I need some sort of protective cage (for the camera only) that will shield the lens against impact and sand plus have an attachment point for a safety leash.
Nice review. Howeve,r there are a lot of videos showing the overheating issue with the Action 2 - many are only getting 3-5 minutes of recording then the unit shuts down. I mean its an action camera, you put it on when you are doing action things that are usually more than 3-5 minutes. Heck I have the original action cam and I used it to record in 4K 60 going up and down the Koko Crater trail in Oahu (its a very difficult hike - took about 1.5 hours). Just as I was ending the hike the unit was pretty hot and I had to shutdown. That is my idea of an action camera. I mean 1.5 hours versus 3-5 minutes... yea. I just wished DJI put the horizon steady and wider field of view on an 'updated' Osmo Action cam till they figured out the overheating issues. But you always have great videos. Keep it up bro.
All in one camera. Action 2 is great for vlogging as well. I need a good quality case for it. The DJI Magnetic Protective case might be the best option.
I WANT to like this and be excited for this as I was really looking forward to upgrading my action 1, but sadly I'm disappointed. It looks great, but missing some features and just make this a deal breaker and seems like a step back. The lack of interchangeable batteries is a no go in my book. Once the battery performance degrades, what is there to do; buy another camera? Not being able to expand the memory unless adding that screen module is also a let down as the camera will no longer be waterproof. Not being able to replace the lense if you happen to crack it also something to be accounted for. Finally, the camera appears to be overheating quicker than the GP10 😳 As slick as this camera looks, I just see too much going wrong with it. For now, I guess I'll wait.
Agreed, for now I’m going to buy the GoPro Hero 10 which I really didn’t think I would. However, after waiting for this and seeing too many flaws for me personally I’ll update my old GoPro to the 10. Not saying the action 2 is bad, but waterproof only using the main camera then anything after needs a casing. Memory needs an add on, magnet not actually that strong as seen in other reviews and trust issues on how good it will hold up when used as an action camera. Also once in a waterproof case it muffled the mics in another video. GoPro has many faults perhaps, but seems more solid for my usage.
I bought gopro session back when its was new. Was really an awesome tool to have in your bp ... But not being able to change the battery has started to become an increasingly bigger deal break, as my current maximum battery time amounts to 20min. And ye its sometimes ocerheat due o lack of ventilation
@@godowskie That’s a good point, but after watching many comparisons the GP10 seems to come out on top and is a more up to date spec. Trust me, personally I wanted anything but a GoPro but it seems they just do the job and do it very well despite some flaws….. which we now see others can suffer the same.
Same experience initially. Was like, wtf after loving my Osmo action 1. Now I’ve gotten it down and love it. Wish screen protection screw off/replace was still a thing.
Regarding charging, I hope they make a "dummy" mag-mount with just power (and possibly an SD card) which is as small as possible. My primary purpose is timelapses so super interested in things like long recording and tethered shooting.
As always Aldryn, amazing in depth review. I always watch your videos before making a purchase decision and you have covered exactly what I was waiting to hear, so thank you for that. You just made my purchase decision a whole lot easier, thanks so much, you rock!!!
I've never seen your channel before but I thoroughly enjoyed/appreciated the detail and depth you've gone into reviewing this camera. you've got another subscriber. Are you going to be reviewing the new DJI Mic (Wireless mic system)?? I would love to see your style review on it to decide whether or not to buy. Thanks!
Perhaps a word of caution to would be buyers of the Action 2. Following the launch yesterday, I did what I always do before hitting the button and checked a couple of hands on reviews on YT. Both these reviews mentioned that the action 2 can over heat when using 120fps and rock steady. I mentioned this on the Official DJI FB Group Page in a comment and was instantly muted.... Have DJI got something to hide, it seems to be very heavy handed to say the least !
If I’m right, that’s worst than the GoPro 10 people were moaning about. Yet this was when the GP10 was still, not moving so no airflow. The DJI seems to suffer this quicker and in motion. I thought this would be the camera for me, I’m right on the edge now to buying the GP10
Oh, c’mon, what do you expect from the company in a country full of the communists?? You are lucky they didn’t shoot you in the back of your head for that kind of questions😐
Thank you AWESOME review! I wanted to get one of these cameras but after watching your very detailed review I changed my mind and I will stick with the old GoPro!
9:50 Right there when you said the Hero 10 shoots at a higher res. That’s why I have a camera like this. Price wise ,a bit much .The magnet is great fun, But I can do this with the Hero. I love DJi I use the drones they make. This action 2 doesn’t have anything better that warrants buying it. Thanks for doing these comparisons. Always good to see.

I just wished DJI put the horizon steady and wider field of view on an 'updated' Osmo Action cam till they figured out the overheating issues. But you always have great videos. Keep it up bro.
Wow your Osmo Actoin has been through some things. Great comparison and video👍 🎥 📸
That is one complete and incredible review. Liked and subscribed!
Thank you for ur explain, i will soon buy that dji action camera 2
Shout out for Mt. Soledad 👏
Hello Ben...
waiting for your review bro!
Same here, waiting for your review Ben
Excellent Video. BTW is that Mt Solidad in La Jolla San Diego where you show the Horizen leveling features?
Yes
All in one camera. Action 2 is great for vlogging as well. I need a good quality case for it. The DJI Magnetic Protective case might be the best option.
The best DJI A2 review!
Adding a free accessory is actually the best thing DJI has ever done. I love the Action2 and I'm waiting for the magnetic case.
Enjoy your videos a lot, especially your text lol very aesthetically pleasing
Great video. I have always loved your hardwork effort and passion to make it so simple to understand things. Keep them coming.
When the DJI ACTION 2 internal battery fails how easy is it to install a replacement?
Agree, I have the old hero session and GoPro 7, I too like the ability to change the battery.
Why not insta360?
Yes like the caddx peanut (an insta360 go 2 modded)
The 399 version is just battery and sdcard.
@@divingfalconfpv4602 But it's big and heavy.
@@TimurIskhodzhanov do we know yet how big the battery is in it? I wish i could take the battery out and run it off a Lipo when I wanted to
As always Aldryn, amazing in depth review. I always watch your videos before making a purchase decision and you have covered exactly what I was waiting to hear, so thank you for that. You just made my purchase decision a whole lot easier, thanks so much, you rock!!!
Great review! Thanks Aldryn.
😁 Final i was waiting for your review about the new dji action 2 camera 😁well done
Can’t wait to try this thing out
Fantastic and thorough review! 👍
Your reviews are amazing! I will be buying a GoPro 10 though. Hope to fly with you on my next visit to CA.
Great video mate!
Glad you enjoyed it
Another excellent and informative no nonsense review !
I was waiting for your review
Very detailed and to
The point ! Nailed it, keep
It up.
Looks like a very promising action camera for motovlogging.
Hey Aldryn BIG THANKS for the review, I just bought one DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo 👍🏻🤛🏻😃
Well...
I think I am gonna stick with my OA1 for more practical reasons...
thanks for super detailed review!👏👏👏
Hands down the best tech reviews on YT. No nonsense...straight to the point. Love it....keep it coming!
Excellent comparison. Thanks!
Sticking with the Osmo Action I believe but loved the review!!
best review on this cam - thanks a lot!
Nice review !! Cool to see all the add on accessories
Great comparison and review 👍
great video that help me to decide to buy DJI Action 2 instead of GoPro. Thank you!!!
Ughh I want this so badly! Hmmm what to do with the InstaGO2 now 😢
Amazing how with just a simple accessory, we'd be able to make more use of the Action 2 and its functions now!
You are aiming to make a useful video to the average user like all of us ... not a fancy style video to show off ... i really appreciate that ... many thanks 😊👍

Been waiting for this camera for a minute! Love the modularity and magnetism applications. The overheating and non-waterproof add ons are a little concerning.
Nice review! DJI really knocked it out of the park with this one.
