You should switch to dji. I’ve found the Osmo action 4 super reliable in terms of user interface. Never had an issue with overheating. And dji doesn’t seem to switch battery architecture much. I love my action 4 so far. Even tho it doesn’t have 5.3k I don’t really mind anyway.

The only change that GoPro could’ve made that ppl wouldn’t complain about is the sensor size. The average complainer aka consumer will complain about any and everything new. They complained about the battery for years and GoPro delivers a higher capacity battery and ppl are complaining about buying new batteries. They cried about the old mount system not being a quick disconnect and GoPro fixes it and yet ppl complain about it. They complained about the max lens basically being useless since hyper view was introduced and they fix that along with adding more lenses at launch with more to possibly come and they deem this the most disappointing release 🤦🏽. Great video, I still plan on getting the 13 just for the new lenses.
The macro lens with proper focus control is something I have been waiting for. I can see why there is quite a bit of disappointment but it feels like with this generation more than ever GoPro is moving away from being aimed purely at action sports and just becoming a versatile compact / rugged camera.
Update the sensors and make a better autofocus inside the camera. The whole advantage of a GoPro is simple and easy to use. Having to swap lenses isn’t what we want out of a GoPro.
I agree, they are venturing on the turf of mirrorless cameras. I'm no sure action cams need such accessories. For niche users perhaps. It quickly comes across as a way for the manufacture to up sell.

I’m pretty strong in the GoPro ecosystem with the remote and lenses and batteries. With the 13 killing off the old, now might be my best time for me to upgrade from the 10 to the 12 for a cheap used price. Unless the Action 5 comes out and blows everything away, then it’s time to go DJI.
I'm ready to watch a comparison video.. If you still have it, throw that Insta360 1 R in the mix for everyone wanting the action cam with a one inch sensor.
The "image quality" displayed here is awesome. This idea (and the floodgate of online comments) claiming that GoPro somehow has crappy image quality just doesn't hold water.
I watched PotatoJet’s video on the GoPro 13 and its image quality in low light is still not up to par with the Osmo Action 4 or Ace Pro. I used to have a GoPro Hero 10 Black and swapped to the DJI Osmo Action 4 and it is way better in low light, has better battery/temp management, and better interface/features.
I think GoPro needed to do more with this one like a 1” sensor. Last year was basically a firmware update.. I have a DJI Pocket 3 with the mic so I’m leaning towards them if I have to upgrade my Hero 8
the bigger sensor the shallower the depth of field. That’s a huge complaint with the osmo 4 and ace pro. Without autofocus, a larger sensor doesn’t make sense.
Please do all 4 cameras in the comparison video. And make sure to test low light capabilities. I'm pretty sure that my next camera will NOT be a GoPro.
GPS with GoPro is a level above DJI. I use geolocated photos and videos. While DJI has a "GPS" in its remote, its GPS data is gibberish if you're trying to locate your photo locations in something like Google Earth. GoPro GPS data allows you to look in photo and video properties and locate your photos/videos with actual proper lat/long data.
I'm really curious what percentage of action camera users are using the GPS functionality. For you, it sounds like it's super important, but last year GoPro thought that percentage was small enough to remove it, but maybe the backlash from that small group got them to put it back in?
@@DavidManningvlog It wasn’t a feature I missed until I didn’t have it. I use GoPros for inspection work, and it’s super helpful to be able to pull up photos and videos back in the office and to be able to create geolocated maps in Google Earth or to be able to identify where a photo or video was taken. I bought the Action 4 and remote and took it out on an inspection and then got back and tried to post-process the GPS data, and it was useless. The Action 4 won’t be going out on any more inspections. I like the action cameras for inspections because they fit in a shirt or pants pocket, they can get wet or dirty, they’re small, and the photos and videos are excellent for illustrating the condition of different items or features.
The GPS simply for geolocation tagging is very important to people like me who keep libraries but don’t do enough manual tagging/logging. So I go by location and rough date.
I would love to see if you can confirm if this new battery and heatsink would prevent the 13 from overheating in a non action environment, as in just sitting on a table for example. The Max Lens Mod you mean? Yeah, that's quite the feature and now with the new one having that 1:1 mode, it's going to help a ton to reframe in post. With POV shots, it's always tough to nail the framing and that gives you a ton of flexibility to take care of it in post
I mainly use my GoPro 10 on a motorbike. I was about to buy 12, but didn't because of the missing GPS, so I welcome its return. Also the power pass-through door is great for me, I half melted the USB by plugging in a wet cable when riding in a rainstorm. (It seems to be compatible with my GoPro too.) The software upgrades and the heatsink are great for me, I'll probably will buy 13, but I'm waiting to see if DJI Action 5 includes a GPS (integrated, not in a separate device to charge and keep around) and other significant upgrades, then I might be tempted to jump the brand. BTW the fidget tool clip with bits looks nice, shame its tag is only compatible with Apple, it would be nice to have an Android alternative.
Great job on the video David! Thanks for making it. Looks cool, but really more like a GoPro 12 ver. 2.0 The one piece of kit that I am sorely lacking is a couple of action cams. I really want an Insta360 X4 thing, but I also see the value in a simple, rugged, forward-facing action cam for some of the footage I want to capture. I keep hoping Sony will return with a new Action Cam but that seems less likely every year. For now, I'm so torn. I didn't love my old GoPro 7, so I have been hesitant to pick up one of the new ones. I do really like the addition of the self-sensing lenses. While it may not be a "true" macro, it will definitely be a cool piece for people that do a lot of desktop and overhead shots for craft videos and the like.
Still rocking hero 8, I don't see any reasons to buy newer model since general improvements, attachments and batteries are not compatible across newer models.
Not sure why you would update 😂 the 10 i just got freezes up and gets hot…it CAN shoot 5.3 and 4k….but for a short amount of time from what I have been reading. Then it heats up faster and crashes. Was hoping to see a product from Gopro that would surpass all the others on the market!
I purchased a GoPro Hero 12 Black last year, and this 13 edition is what should have been released in version 12. What makes me angry is GoPro offers no upgrade path from the 12 to the 13. I like GoPro, especially Quik app, however, when a company does not realize how to keep customers coming back as technology improves this suggests greed to me. It is GoPro that needs to update the 12 capability via firmware. Support your products or offer an upgrade path.
If you have Hero12 and want to upgrade? thats a no no for me, but if you want to have your first action camera? thats a go for me, even if you have older ones like hero10 and want to upgrade thats more a go go.
I've got Gopro 12, actually from Gopro 8 I have brought them every year. After this, I think I'm gonna stop buying the new one and move on action 5. I'm very disappointed. Thank you for this review!
Took my gopro 10 I just got literally the day they announced the 13 😑 kayaking. Awesome footage so far…it did however freeze up on a certain video I was shooting and had to remove battery and reinsert before it would power back on…Hate all you guys want when I say….My Akaso Brave 7 never had this issue in any temp or climate!! 🤐🤐🤐
Great video as always David. Just do a comparison once the Action 5 Pro is out and save your time. Btw in all honesty, the 13 looks more like an update rather than an upgrade to me. Golden opportunity wasted by GoPro to reclaim their top dog status in the action camera world for sure.
Great video thanks. They should have put on the Dji pocket 3 sensor and lens, with its autofocus, whilst supplying a screw on wide angle lens, or digital lens. That would have been excellent for vloggers. Unfortunately The Bluetooth isnt that great.
Could you make a comprehensive video about the new Go Pro Hero Mini that came with the Grupo 13 Black because there seems to be not enough information about it
All they should have done for the gopro 12 is like split into gopro 12 and than this gopro 12s or 13. Is more like the iPhone used to do when they just had an S after the number
Thank you for your informative and entertaining video. What is really interesting about the new Gopro 13, for me, is actually only the macro lens but only if Gopro also releases a diving housing for the macro lens. Would love to hear your honest opinion on the Gopro 13 and Insta360 ace pro :-), which one is better for diving trips? Ok we still have to wait for the DJI action 5.
Does the macro not have the capability to focus better when using the 4x zoom? Also, I was really wanting the 13 to increase sensor to improve low light footage like the competitors, i think that will be the big miss for me on this new model.
Nope. For the camera, the upgrades would be very minimal. And you can purchase any of those various lenses and or magnet attachments in the aftermarket for dirt cheap.
@@dynamicphotography_ this. every single "new" attachment they launched has been available for years for a fraction of the price and they fucked ppl over with the new battery being incompatible with 9/10/11/12. So firstly I’m super annoyed you didn’t get it to do pre launch testing! The amount of time effort and money you’ve put into GoPro I feel it’s a proper piss take on their part. I’m so glad you’ve managed to put a vid together in such a short time, I have seen there’s on another channel there’s another new heat sink inside the camera but how true that is I’m not sure. I’d defo like to see a battery life vid 🙏🏻👍🏻
I think the new lenses are an excellent addition. That feature alone makes me consider the 13 because I do need the auto ND feature especially the "this filter is too strong this filter is to weak" as I am NOT a settings camera guy I just want to click and go.... But is it enough.... I don't think GoPro did enough in the iteration between the 12 and the 13.... What about the "rumoured 360 camera" where is that? Is that even going to come close in features of the x4? I need one of the 360 camera's as well in the future but which one will be worth it... I wonder if the teams at GoPro still think that past success ='s future guarantee?
Im a pro videographer and been toying with getting some of the smaller cameras like the Action Pro 4 - My big issue is long run times - I think the problem with the GoPro stuff has always been shut down times... perhaps the heat sink solves this issue and will allow the camera to run for 90 mins in 4K 60 until the battery dies before it shuts down. Is the DJI AP 5 out yet?
This is what the Gopro Hero 12 should have been. A simple update and the hero 12 can use different lens etc. Auto detect is a simple update too im sure of. Hero 13 basically obsolete 12 as a true successor to the Hero 11.
David, I know this probably isn't something most people want or would consider, but is there anyone out there that makes a Max Lens Mod Case or Cover for the lens? I've lost 2 of my covers for mine and GoPro doesn't sell them. There has to be a market for these? I see on ETSY someone makes a 3D printed version, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
@@DavidManningvlog we NEED this! Would love to hear you mention it in an upcoming video to try to get others to produce one. I hate not having a lens cover for my Max Lens Mods. I have 3 of them and have lost all of them lol.

Now you have to be even more careful putting your lenses on! what a great update!
Always great videos from you man💪
Yes please, compare all four with the buyers guide.
👍 Great comparison. Loving the EDC Multi-Tool Clip. I got it earlier this week.
Finally magnetic mounts on GoPro! But I am sad that the batteries from older versions are not compatible with GoPro 13
Everyone is eagerly waiting for the Insta 360 Pro 2 & the Dji Action 5 Pro reviews
It’s a battery cells + s/w thing. I bet fast charging would impact the extra batteries sale 😅
Great review, thanks for sharing.
Agree with your comments. And there is no Macro lens. Its a close up lens at the most.
I saw in some leaks that the dji action 5 wont have gps but take it with a grain of salt
Awesome review as always David! Also. Wifey is shredded! After children, she should be commended for her hard work. Hope you spoil her!
Awesome review as always... since I have the 12/10/8/7/5 I might* pass on the camera and get that little bluetooth mic instead.
Night shoot around city streets plz ! Great video. New sub
I still love the dji action 4
Great review! I’ll be sticking with the 12 and action 4
Waiting for that DJI Action 5 Pro review, bro 00
Good review David, thanks
David, another great vid, I have an Action 4 and just ordered the GoPro 13, Just something I like about GoPro.....🙂
Awesome as always David! were really spoilt for choice nowadays.
haha. love the aluminum test. great video as always.
i was waiting for your review!
Wait a few weeks for the DJI Action Pro 5 to come out.
Could you make a comprehensive video about the new Go Pro Hero Mini that came with the Grupo 13 Black because there seems to be not enough information about it
Did Kondor Blue buy your lil roller skates?
Hahahaa! Shut up and buy one Whoop boy!🤣
 Mr Manning and Mrs Manning... thirst traps and awesome content all in one. ;-)
I’m waiting for the new DJI action cam before picking this up.
I bought a action 4 and I used it 3x, I went back to using my action 1.
I’m still using the Hero 11 , still wondering if I should upgrade or continue with what I have been using
Don't upgrade with another Gopro PLS a Dji action 4 is better than this
I'm on a hero 9 black just gonna wait for the inevitable price drops on the 12 & keep that for 3-4 generations
The lens option in cool, but old tech in a new shell is not. Let's see what DJI OA5 has to offer. Thanks for the video :D
Yo!! Just found your channel, I'm a David Manning too!! Wild 😂Keep crushing it D Man!
Voice mode seem to pick up more wave noises
Yes, it was obvious. Maybe that mode is better for different scenarios.
Would like to see the low light performance comparison.
please do a comparison all four of those cameras 😂
Most annoying thing these clowns say "not sponsored video". DUDE you have affiliate links that's the juice behind these channels.
Auto detectors more than just an update.
David u think this is a good upgrade from the 10 or pass ?
I would love them to have a selfie stick ai remover in the app
Do a recording at night. In the city or dim places and see how the camera holds up at night time footage.
pls if you compare, compare the sounds as well. ace pro + dji mic 2 sounds awfull for example
Fact check. Ace Pro is reversible. That is the single thing I love the most about the system trying to find the right angle.
You have to force it to go in reverse. I have an Ace Pro and it's a pain in the ass.
@@Cameraflyer- did they change it? I don’t have to force anything.
@@jerimiah_y they didn’t change it. You can lie all you want to.
@@Cameraflyer- The original mount is annoying either way. As my linked video shows. It is REVERSIBLE.
David, are you going to review the new DJI Neo Drone??
David, I know this probably isn't something most people want or would consider, but is there anyone out there that makes a Max Lens Mod Case or Cover for the lens? I've lost 2 of my covers for mine and GoPro doesn't sell them. There has to be a market for these? I see on ETSY someone makes a 3D printed version, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
How odd that nobody sells that?! Of course people are going to lose the cover!
@@DavidManningvlog we NEED this! Would love to hear you mention it in an upcoming video to try to get others to produce one. I hate not having a lens cover for my Max Lens Mods. I have 3 of them and have lost all of them lol.
Go Pro is dead to me now unless they stop with incrementals and do actual innovation again. Their competitors are way out ahead now. I would come back to them if they step up. I know that's a hot take but just my opinion
They will never stop incremental upgrades… their business model is a new camera every year, it’s the way they make money…
Do the competitors have HLG HDR?
So it's basically a lens kit. One of this little.lems bundles you see on Amazon, that's the GoPro 13...yeah, I think I'm out. I'm guessing they didn't address the battery door water seal issue and all the batteries I have from my 11 that died this summer is basically just trash now if I want the lens kit. It's honestly impressive how disappointing this all is. Like they put in work to be this arrogant and insulting to their customers.
